Game of Thrones - David Benioff on Shooting Locations
Aug 11, 2011
Game of ThronesVariety’s Emmy Central blog has an article that speaks to the showrunners of various series nominated for “Best Drama” at this year’s award, including HBO’s Game of Thrones (see the full list of Emmy nominations for the show). One common refrain is the envy some showrunners have towards the big-budget HBO programs such as Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. But when David Benioff is quoted, he’s discussing how the budget has gone towards allowing the production to film in two countries last season… and now three this season:

I probably does cost a lot to fly all those props and people back an forth
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to the scenes beyond the wall and the Frostfangs in particular!
ReplyDeleteoh! I wish it was in Spain... :/
ReplyDeleteinteresting! thanks for sharing! :)
Very interesting thanks for sharing. The large tax incentives must help the cost for filming in Northern Ireland
ReplyDeleteWow. Three countries. Forget about the cost! That has to be so tiresome for cast and crew both. NOt that I'm in any way ungrateful mind you. :D
ReplyDeleteThey had 3 shoot locations for Season One too. Mostly shot in Ireland of course, but then the Essos scenes in the pilot were shot in Morocco and after the pilot shot in Malta.
ReplyDeleteMaybe 4 locations... I think some of the pilot's Winterfell scenes were shot in Scotland if I recall correctly. Although Ireland to Scotland is not much of a hike compared to Iceland or Malta.
The production schedule has to be an absolute nightmare.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to that exact same thing, with some improvements. There were a few scenes in season one where the woodland snowfall was obviously plastered on and looked fake enough to be distracting.
ReplyDeleteGlad Game of Thrones are in the Emmy line up. Loved the books.
