Whoa! Big shock on Eureka.
Remember how Syfy ordered six episodes for a potential final season last week? Well, now we’re just been told that not only is the show firmly going to end, but the network has changed their mind about those final six episodes.
The 13-episode fifth season that was ordered back in June, which includes a holiday special, is going to be the final season of Eureka. Here’s a statement from Syfy:
“After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.“

WTAF SY-FY.
ReplyDeleteBullshit. Just the other day they say they are giving it six episodes and are eager to continue the show, and now they cancel the sixth season and the show altogether?
ReplyDeleteHell, Eureka gets better ratings than Alphas and Haven, SyFy's so called "hits."I am done with this network. Too much SyFy and not enough sci-fi.
This confuses me. Between SyFy and the people on Glee, does anyone know what they are doing in TV anymore? Shame about Eureka because I have really been enjoying that show. Here's hoping the cast and crew find other shows speedily.
ReplyDeleteThat &ucks!
ReplyDeleteWTF. Eureka is the best of their original series and the fan backlash over this is going to be enormous.
ReplyDeleteOh Sy-Fy, you asshole-y you.
ReplyDeletePREACH!
ReplyDeleteAnd after they made a big show of it the other day saying that Eureka wasn't canceled, that the six episode pick-up was a good thing. They could have at least let them keep the six episodes for closure... Assholes.
ReplyDeleteI guess now the cast can move on to bigger and better networks.
Just goes to show that Syfy is run by idiots. Not that I watch Eureka all the time, but its ratings have been decent and Syfy hardly has tons of other original programming, let alone successful original programming.
ReplyDeleteExtremely stupid move SyFy. The should have waited and cancelled the show after Season 6. Give the writers a chance to end the show the way they wanted to.
ReplyDeleteIf there is no closure after Season 5 I hope they do a TV movie to tie up loose ends.
I will miss the show. Hope they all move to bigger and better things
warehouse 13 is the flag ship of sci fi now so they are getting rid of eureka.. They should just cancel haven instead, that show is garbage.
ReplyDeleteWarehouse 13 is the flag show of sci fi now... They just just cancel haven instead of eureka that show is garbage and unwatchable.
ReplyDeleteHa! SyFy is no stranger to fan backlash.
ReplyDelete.....mk, Syfy. Mk, trying to axe off the last of the original SciFi shows, I see.
ReplyDeleteNope. I love Haven. It's a great show!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love the show, I'm ok with it coming to an end. Sounds more like the cast and crew may have wanted more money per episode since it's going to be a shorter season... This isn't Jerhico, I live with this show just walking off into the sunset since there is no lingering questions or unresolved arcs... I'm making the assumtion that this season will end with beverly being arrested (again) and that settles pretty much everything.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the awards the show has won over the years, the response to it at Comicon, I don't buy this as a 'business decision'. There has to be something else going on: maybe they're just trying to push fans into a ratings-fest or whatever. Clearly TPTB are still basing things on archaic Neilsen, whereas the audience for Eureka are smarter than average and probably access the show in lots of different ways.
ReplyDeleteI think the only thing that could be left open is if Beverly doesn't get arrested, in which case they could easly wrap that on W13... I'm betting (knowing this show) it was already doing to wrap the season (and the series) well.
ReplyDeleteI can't be ratings... It's still getting better ratings than Haven... I think it's possible that they cast and crew might have wanted more money, or the creative ideas might have been a little too big for the budget, ext... It's had a pretty long run for a cable show, it would have been 6 seasons if not for the writers strike.
ReplyDeleteYeah... NO.

ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter how this season ends. They are still getting one more season after this current one. We still have about 20 episodes till we get to the end.
ReplyDeleteOh look, Syfy has made it to the top of my network hate list. I never though it could happen, but they actually beat out Fox.
ReplyDeleteOk that's just uncool. :(
ReplyDeleteIt was especially painful to see Erica Cerra log onto twitter and not know what was going on. She literally had to ask Colin Ferguson over twitter what was going on.
ReplyDeleteTHe cast should have been notified before the media. What bullshit.
On Twitter from John Rogers Producer of Leverage to Colin Ferguson (Jack Carter) and Jaime Paglia Creator of Eureka: Great run. A pleasure to hang about in the early days. You know, back when you were building their fucking network.
ReplyDeleteI believe now that networks do not at all care about their fans. It's all a business. Just like Wal Mart does not care about their employees. After Heroes, I will never watch anything on NBC ever again, even if it catches my interest. My cousin watches Eureka like a religion, I'm going to text him now, it ain't gonna be pretty.
ReplyDeleteUniversal runs SyFy, and we know Universal also runs NBC, so idiots abound! The only thing Universal is good at is cancelling decent shows, running potentially good shows into the ground, and mismanaging their and scheduling, but hey they do know comedy...most times. But that said I have enjoyed Eureka immensely, and I am confident that the episodes we do get will wrap the show up nicely. No insight just my faith in the show's creators. Unfortunately SyFy has to make room for their next knew thing - Warehouse 12. The spin-off that was back-door-piloted on tonight's Warehouse 13.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I guess Kevin really needed to get his point across to have typed that twice, I'm guessing he failed to realize there is an edit button.

ReplyDeleteGuys! Noo! Syfy is the new Fox for me. Adding Eureka on the list of sci-fi shows that should be avenged, which contains Firefly, Caprica and SGU. Grrr
This is wrong. What the hell SyFy????
ReplyDeleteI tried watching Warehouse 13 recently and I just couldn't get into it. Not like I did Eureka when I started watching it (again, recently) which makes this a major pain because I only just started watching it.
ReplyDeleteI thought the 6 episode 6th Season was a great idea. Then SyFy said that it may not be the final season, which I was pretty happy about.. and now they flip the script on us!
ReplyDeleteHate the TV business! One of the most cruel!
ReplyDeletewell foot. :-(
ReplyDeleteWow, did not expect that after the previous renewal notice but I think the time is right to end the show, as it was getting a bit predictable. I am OK with that as there is a whole season we haven't seen yet.
ReplyDeletethat is sad :(
ReplyDeleteBoooooooo!
ReplyDeleteWeird decision, considering its ratings, a final shortened season would have been just fair.
ReplyDeletelol! but I understand you, they play with us!! :/
ReplyDeleteSyFy you suck! I just hope that NBC will bring back the show from the dead! Now that Chuck will end...
ReplyDeleteAs long as Eureka ends on a good note, I think I'll be okay with that. Guess I won't be watching SYFY anymore. They have become the new FOX. Hopefully some other worthable network will pick up the show if they get enough feedback.
ReplyDeletehonestly it's fine with me ! I got bored with that show ! i've been watching since the beginning but it feels like it's always the same thing...
ReplyDeleteVery sad day.
ReplyDeleteI don't ever watch Eureka…but this is ludicrous.
ReplyDeleteyeah. it can be harsh. Kinda wish I wouldn't be so determined to make my way there :/
ReplyDeletei'm just flabbergasted. I want a bridge device to take me to a universe where tv execs have good sense and don't cancel the shows that made/make them stable.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct, the long mid season break makes it hard to keep track of where they are... so this really seems like an odd announcement if they have another full season left to shoot.
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side, this early announcement will allow the actors to line up other jobs instead of making them sit around for the next year wondering if they still have a job.
ReplyDeleteAs much as it sucks to have Eureka end, I prefer it to be this way so the show can have an actual ending rather than the usual last minute cancelation and the show ending with a cliffhanger.
Definetly... All shows have to end at some point, better to have it known before shooting starts.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks!
ReplyDeleteAnd so another epic tv show will be layed to rest. I cant beliave such great show's are getting canceled. Do you americans realy only want to watch "reality" show's? and if your canceling a show have the decency to tell the cast before the media. We will all miss Eureka because it was an awsome show! Every ep was interesting, funny one of the rare show's that had it all.
ReplyDeleteWTFrack Syfy??? Are they even going to have any actual sci fi shows on their network now??
ReplyDeleteEureka fans, go to this link to sign a petition to keep the show going: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/saveeureka/
ReplyDeleteAnd get the word out by whatever means possible - Twitter, Facebook, etc. Those who want this wonderful show to continue should stand up and be counted.
Absolutely gutted i swear the ratings can't have been that bad. Now the question is can us Eureka fans do what the Chuck fans did for it a few years back and get them to bring it back!
ReplyDeleteThis is bullshit beyond belief. Eureka's the ONLY freakin' reason I watch that channel. No kidding. I used to watch Farscape and SG1, two other stellar examples of scifi, not Syfy - contrived, unoriginal, stupid lame storylines. I am done. Go to hell Syfy, because after season five in 2012, you've lost me as a viewer.
ReplyDeleteI hope that Fox or CBS or Time Warner has the bright idea of starting their own Sci-fi / genre network because SyFy is going to be nothing but wrestling, reality, and crap original movies in two years time.
ReplyDeleteNow, when I say this it's not because I'm feeling pissy and lashing out. It's just the way I see the network going. In the past two years the SyFy network orders twice as many reality and non-genre programs than it does actual, scripted sci-fi/genre television. It looks as if that programming trend is going to continue until we're left with nothing but a slightly nerdy version of Spike TV.
Unfortunately, all of the networks are overrun by 'reality' tv, which sadly, is less costly to produce and they get more hang for the buck. After 2012, I won't be watching syfy except for amybe Sanctuary because Amnda Tapping's my girl.
ReplyDeleteAs much as it pains me to see the show go, I do agree with these comments. I hope we continue to see everyone even if they are on different projects. I love the cast and hope they all continue to have success in the future. Though, I'm still hanging on to a little glimmer of hope that another network will pick up the show.
ReplyDeleteIt was already supposed to wrap with season 6... I don't think 6 episodes is worth a whole lot of effort.
ReplyDeleteSyfy is it's own worst enemy- after the fans it continuously alienates and pisses off. While I, as a rule will keep track of when shows come back, the reason it has such a hard time with its fans is the same as ABC's V- "seasons" of 12 episodes and droughts of EIGHT (8) monthsbetween each "half". Do they have ADD??

ReplyDeleteHOLY CRAP SYFY!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is this... : |
