There have been reports of budget cuts being behind the BBC’s decision not to air a full season of Doctor Who during 2012—
Absolute nonsense. First of all, we are airing in 2012. The only thing that’s happening is that we’re moving a bit later...There’s lots of reasons for that that will become clear quite soon...It is certainly not a reduced episode count. Do you think the BBC would really let that happen? With an average audience of 10 million?…Doctor Who’s international profile is huge. It’s never been more successful. You’re not going to reduce a show like this. The opposite is going to happen, in fact.

A spring special and a fall run makes sense. He's not wrong about a 10 million viewer base and the strongest international profile the show has ever enjoyed.
ReplyDeletePeople put way too much stock into the often wrong Private Eye.
Genre fans are really quick to freak out about things. That's how "reports" (read: rumors) like this fester.
ReplyDeleteI actually find it hilarious how much so people freak out about rumors, I take everything with a grain of salt
ReplyDelete10 million viewers is very strong. I'm really happy to hear that Who is doing well these days. They're on a real creative high these days!
ReplyDeleteThe move to autumn make a lots of sense, I would have preferred if they aired this season together in autumn rather is in two section with such a large gap
ReplyDeleteThe rumors are not wholly without foundation as the BBC will see a 16% reduction in it budget and the current head writer Steven Moffat is heavily involved in another BBC hit series called Sherlock.
ReplyDeleteLol, I think any really intense fan of any show freaks out... It's just that genre fans tend to have a much bigger internet presence. So we can chat with other people online. Since our real friends don't care xD. And because we love the internets.
ReplyDeleteTypical British press trying to pull down shows when they do well. I'm actually really looking forward to the events they are planning for the 50th anniversary in 2013, multi-doctor episodes please!
ReplyDeleteI don't think Eccelston would do it.
ReplyDeleteTennant, McGann, McCoy and Davidson seem like they're gettable.
So I guess that rumor of the Easter special has some legs.
ReplyDeleteAnyone wonder if we're getting too much of a good thing? I love this show and have watched every episode three times over sometimes just I pick up on every quirky line, but would a 5 year break do any harm? Not necessarily any need for a regeneration, but a break of some sort?
ReplyDeleteI really want Eccelston back but yeah he probably wouldn't, McGann would be good I allways felt like he was a lost great Doctor because of that bloody TV movie mess up.
ReplyDeleteEccelston has said he wouldn't come back. Something about never looking back. A good thing normally, though a shame for this.
