Don’t let those “Dexter will battle faith in Season 6″ reports fool you: Showtime boss David Nevins assures fans and (religious) critics alike that the Dark Passenger willnot, in fact, physically throw down with a God-like entity. We’ll give you a second to compose yourselves after that jaw-dropping scooplet…
“Jesus will not be on Dexter this year,” Nevins deadpanned at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour on Thursday. This declaration came on the heels of a journo implying that Dexter Morgan’s religious exploration in the upcoming season — and as evidenced in the latest trailer , which features the song “Personal Jesus” — is in some way blasphemous or controversial.
Rather, it’s quite the contrary. According to Nevins, the faith storyline is really designed to present Dex with the following dilemma: “What does it mean to raise a child given the Dark Passenger I’m carrying around with me?”
Previewing the season to come, Nevins promised “a larger, criminal story with [guest stars] Colin Hanks and Edward James Olmos that has its own spiritual significance. The killings Dexter is following [unravel] in a Dan Brown (The DaVinci Code) sort of way, where there are clues to be followed.” It should be noted that mystery has shrouded the roles both Hanks and Olmos are playing, since their castings were announced earlier this summer. But based on Nevins’ statements, it seems safe to assume they’re both involved in the killing game to some extent.
To conclude, Nevins offered a tease seemingly unrelated to — though equally intriguing — Dexter‘s Season 6 spiritual dealings: “There are things that happen this year that will set up new life for the show.”

Jesus is everywhere
ReplyDeletePersonally I'm an atheist, but I didn't mean any religious offense to anyone, If that's what you implied. Just copying the article.
ReplyDeleteOf course Jesus is not in Dexter this season or any other season. He's not getting anywhere near Deb and her foul mouth. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm an atheist myself. It was more of a saying..
ReplyDeleteDeb is a real nice lady. Love her attitude sometimes. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's interesting that they say "no Jesus" this year, but yet do not deny an exploration into spirituality simply because he has to teach Harrison something...I am kind of hoping that Dexter will come to see that spirituality, whether Religious or not, is all about a person's own reasoning for answers and I think the show already plays on the evolution on having to adapt and revise one's philosophy for the unexpected and for the sake of others...
ReplyDeleteFaith is belief, not necessarily Religious....you know, like believing in having friends, loving donuts, having a job to provide things for one's self or others, ect, ect....and it's not like Dexter hasn't on and off gone against Harry's code, and even "Harry" admits in season 5 that he was wrong about Dexter...
I am sure the criminals are going to be the one's to use and present "faith" in manipulative, perhaps extending the can of worms Jordan Chase opened up with group energy and primal fear....
I loved Dexter. The first seasons were great.
ReplyDeleteBut last season so disappointed in me.
I read the spoilers and even more disappointed. I do not think it will look more ...... It's much not Dexer
Have to agree with you about last season. Still not sure if I'm going watch this season. You are right that religion could be badly wrong
ReplyDeleteThere it with religion, I am a believer ^ _ ^ - Only other Aspects that I had for a TV series like Dexter. A discourse on religion, the only PhotoLine series finale, I find it more consistent.
ReplyDeleteSpirituality doesn't equal religiosity. I'm glad they aren't taking that road. I'm all for internal conflicts. Dexter should have them. He's a 'monster' raising a child.
ReplyDeleteI loved season 5 it was my favorite season, but it worked for me because of how season 4 played out onto it...It offered a type of hope for Dexter, which i think the series wouldn't be as good if there wasn't any for him.
ReplyDeleteIf you think about the idea of the TRINITY killer it is hard not to think things associated with threes (and hidden fours) like that of spirituality as 3 is the breakdown of transformationism. (looking at 3 aspects or identities, or stages, to make up a final stage that includes the compilment of) --Dexter is about exploration of identity and moral ethics...Religion should play a role because a Religion is one way one rationalizes themselves and the world around them...for better or for worse...it's all in the eye of the beholder!
It's also interesting comparing next season to Dan Brown works considering his last installment was about the ability to control matter with the mind and that the first Dexter book is titled Darkly DREAMING Dexter...I have to wonder if I smell an alternate reality (time travel via ancient ritual) for season 7???
indeed
