The CW is looking to get back into the comics/superhero business with a familiar name.
Supernatural creator Eric Kripke is writing and executive-producing an adaptation of DC Comics’Deadman, our sister site Deadline reports.
Deadman centers on Boston Brand, a circus acrobat who is murdered but continues to live on when a supernatural being enables him to possess the living. He then finds himself torn between finding and exacting revenge on the man who killed him and using his new ability to help others.
CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour earlier this month that finding a new superhero to fill the void left by Smallville is a priority. To the network’s benefit, much like ABC has Disney-owned Marvel in its fold, The CW has in-family DC Comics, which is owned by Time Warner, to cull from.
“We’re looking next year to do a superhero show if the right superhero comes to be,” said Pedowitz.
Kripke has plenty of experience in the paranormal arena, having served as showrunner on the network’sSupernatural for five years. He remains an executive producer on the series, which enters its seventh season on Sept. 23.
As far as I can remember there were rumours about a CW adaption around for some onths now, so this isn't a surprise.
ReplyDeleteI find it boring. If they want to really fill the gap left by Smallville, then look for something / a character that's known worldwide. Smallville became an overnight hit because of Superman. Then Deadman is errrrr...... not to mention that Supernatural EP will produce it, I'm seeing a Supernatural-themed Deadman series.

ReplyDeleteDoesn't really give me any sort of inspiration or enthusiasm at all............
If the initial idea doesn't grip you then there's not much hope for the series.
It reminds me a little of "The Dead Zone"; someone getting a power of some kind then helping out people with it.
Of course its far too early to say, it might, if it sees the light, turn out to be wonderful.
The fact that Kripke has had success with Supernatural, however, doesn't automatically mean that he can pull another rabbit out of the hat.

ReplyDeleteI thought Kripke was no longer an executive producer on SPN? I thought season 6 was his last. It's now completely Sera's baby and he might answer questions if help was needed?

I don't know about this replacing smallville but I think it could be interesting.

ReplyDeleteAs far as categorizing this goes, Deadman is more of a supernatural show than a superhero show.
