Castle - Season 4 - New Captain Info from TV Line

Thanks to MurderMondays for the heads up.

Being at Beckett’s side as she fights for her life isn’t the only crucible lying in wait for Castle‘s titular mystery writer when the ABC drama kicks off its fourth season on Sept. 19.

Instead, once the dust has settled on the season finale’s shocking shooting – which came on the heels of Captain Montgomery being killed — Beckett will find herself having to break in a new boss. But Victoria “Iron” Gates is not one to bend easily, if at all.

Comic-Con Video: Nathan Fillion Previews the ‘Repercussions’ of Castle‘s Love Confession, and the Season Premiere’s Big Fight
“She’s definitely the challenger, where when you’re in her presence, you’re going to be better than your best,” says the new captain’s portrayer, 24 alum Penny Johnson Jerald. “She’s there to make [the officers of the 12th precinct] better than before. But mind you, she won’t put up with the way they’ve been getting [to that level] before, so there may be some trying times.”

  1. I know I won't like the Captain but I love that they're going to have an internal barrier to Castle's presence that isn't Beckett.

I'm hoping they do go the more indirect route with having the Captain assign Beckett to the boring stuff to try to push Castle out. See how much he likes following her around when all she does is paper work and the like. Then she can step it up when she sees that isn't going to work. This way we get more of Ryan/Esposito out in the field and we get more Castle/Beckett trapped in a room scenes(which are always great).

  2. I think they've gone over this, Castle talks to his mother about why he's still part of the team and they come to the conclusion that he's there for Beckett, not for the cases.

  4. I get a feeling the precinct scenes will be way more tense. Bummer... I loved the playground vibe between everyone at the station. I think I miss Roy (even more) already...

  5. I still feel Meh about her. I'll have to see on her on screen to get a reading of how I feel about her.

  6. I hope she's prepared for fans to passionately dislike her character until she warms up to the squad.  Well, she played Sherry Palmer so she probably knows the drill.  :)

  7. I think when they warm up to her and she warms up to them things won't be too bad. She will realize how good they work together and how good they are at solving cases and ultimately that makes her look good as well especially since she is just using her position as a stepping stone to move up the ladder she will use them to her advantage. I looking forward to the new season!!!!

  10. Little conflict will do good for the show...I hope :) Anyway, I'm sure that new captians animosity towards Casle will last to mid-season... and after that, there will be case where captian will be involwed and Caslte is going to help her.... at least I think so :)

  11. I worry about that as well.  The whole turn toward heavy-handed drama late last season, plus the descriptions of the new captain, have me worrying that the show is trading some of its fun and whimsy (its best attributes, in my eyes) just to play up that drama, which was never its strong suit.  I hope this isn't the case.  I don't watch Castle for tension and angst.  I watch it (and love it) 'cause its a damned good time, and makes me smile.  Here's hoping that will be as true as ever.

  12. Basically, this show's becoming the same obstacle course like Bones. Oh no, Castle and Beckett can't get together, let's have the new captain put her foot down and forbid their romance. Eh... :( I really hoped that Castle's writers learned their lesson from the disaster that's Bones.

  13. 24 fanboys and Castle fangirls are not the same thing. She might be in for quite a shock!

  15. PJJ is very talented  - I can't wait to see her on TV again ... she was so amazing on 24, the kind of character you just love to hate.  I hope they can balance her out since there seems to be such a polarized attitude towards her already.  She's also good enough to where they can really come up with a great backstory for her - I hope they do so we can see some of her depth and not just the "Iron" Gates.

  16. As long as her character is not trying to date Castle I think she'll weather the storm.  Katheryn Winnick could give her a few tips just in case.
