Burn Notice, White Collar and Covert Affairs - Return Dates

Thanks to Mailin for the heads up.

Annie and Auggie will swing back into action on Tuesday, Nov. 1, uncorking the final six episodes of Covert Affairs‘ Season 2, USA Network has announced.

Similarly, Burn Notice — which will air its midseason finale on Sept. 8 — is set to promptly return on Thursday, Nov. 3, with a half-dozen fresh episodes.

(Now while you’re whooping and cheering, I’ll discreetly point out that, per tradition, White Collar will not resume its Season 3 run until January 2012, a rep for the cabler tells me. So hang tight there, Peter.)

While on the topic of USA’s fall scheduling, remember that Psych kicks off its long-, long-awaited sixth season on Oct. 12, when it airs the first of nine new episodes.

    More interested in White Collar and Covert Affairs return dates honestly.... Burn Notice meandered a bit too much this season for me. Still an awesome series, but down a notch a three on my watch list.

    I'm surprised that USA is bringing back Covert Affairs and Burn Notice during November sweeps when viewer focus is usually on network programming.

    I hadn't really thought of that honestly, but it is surprising!

    It seems like one of the big drawing points for the USA series is that they are on in the slow points or hiatuses of the network season....

    I wouldn't watch half of the USA programs I watch if they were on in the peak of network season. They are just too light and episodic compared to the detailed serials I love.

    Burn Notice has the shortest midseason hiatus, which is great.  Until you remember that means eons before the summer return.  :-(

    I too regret the long hiatus for White Collar - who put El and us in the hot seat this long - but it means for a shorter wait for season 4 so there's a plus for everything.

    It is very odd.  Last year seemed to have a short interim too but that was because of the Sam Axe movie.  I haven't seen anything that would necessitate returning early this year.  Usually it begins again in Jan. like the other shows.

    Perhaps USA is testing how their best shows would do against the networks.  They have been garnering rave reviews and basically win the non-premium cable ratings game.  If Burn Notice and Covert Affairs could score decent numbers during prime season, USA could open their schedule up even more.  They are already talking about comedy blocks and new pilots.  Maybe USA is making a run at counting in the big scheme of things.

    I don't think it's the CIA as much as it is this season's mystery.  The writer's haven't done as good of a job of creating a really good mystery as they have in seasons past.  There hasn't been a really good villain to focus on either.

    This is probably the best explanation.  In all fairness to USA, the competition's network scheduling on Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 10pm this fall is fairly weak.  Maybe USA knows what they're doing after all.

    Ha! I do too somewhat. 

    I just think the season has been less about Michael's burn notice and the people behind it this year than ever before. Partly due to the CIA plots and partly due to the Jesse plots too.

    With no "Big Bad" as a driving force for the season to be about it has been mostly bad guys of the week and little hints about the CIA.... I don;t often agree with Fiona when it comes to Michael... but  I do when it comes to the CIA. These CIA plots have been less than stellar for the most part.

    I guess for me the series has always been about Michael and his team as one entity. This season it feels like it's about Michael, his old team, and old-team member Jesse's new jobs - three entities. Fi and Sam always had outside jobs that pulled Michael in, but they feel more isolated to me this year... and Jesse is even further outside.

    Maybe just me....

    True.  I was pretty shocked that we opened the season with most of Barrett's network already taken care of.  I thought that would be the focus of the summer episodes.  Instead it took forever to kill off Max and now that investigation seems to be dragging.

    I don't think Burn Notice ever figured out what to do with Jesse after last season and it really shows in his appearances this season.

    Not just you.  It feels too split between Michael's CIA work and the team's Miami-based missions.  Heck they are not always even in the same country anymore.  That hurts the bond not only between the team but also between the show and its audience.

    I miss not having a looming  Big Bad or looming question trying to be answered too.  

    There's no direction this season... they're not pushing towards an obvious (even if mysterious) goal or person. they're just seemingly meandering as they go about doing random jobs in my eyes.

    I have wondered about that too. It's like they had an endgame scenario for 5 years.... but then found out they would have more than five years and had to redirect and fill in new plots to drag it out to the original endgame.

    Well put.  The storytelling just isn't there this season.  There have been a handful of nice touches this season (Barry & his brother, Agent Pearce, the CIA guys from the Sam Axe movie) but it all lacks substance.

    It's definitely becoming all crime of the week and less villain of the season.  Don't get me wrong; there are definitely times when I like the cases better than the season-long arc, but with no added purpose the cases are starting to run together.  In fact, sometimes I feel like I've already seen the case before.

    ...how is no one excited about the #psych premiere?!?! OH. MY. GOODNESS. I HAVE WAITED FOR MONTHS FOR #PSYCHSEASON6...october 12th needs to come faster. this is the longest hiatus we've ever had, but i know it'll be all worth it. whaaaat. who's ready for some delicious flavor?

    White Collar always seems to do that though, have the longer break between the two halves of the season, and then the shorter break between the season finale and the next season premiere. I also don't like that they split the episodes 10/6 this year, I would have much preferred 8/8 or even 9/7.

    Becaus of all your reasons this is pretty much my favourite season so far. The season long enemy is wokring in the "back". He's not revealed like many others at the beginning of a season. That's what I like about that. It's building towards the villain (the one that ordered the assassination of Max if u forgot^^). And due to one recent casting I think I know who it is ;-)

    Oh I think the season could change for me in a hurry if one or two episodes pull all the meandering episodes together and connect everything more directly. No doubt.

    The big bad in the background may or may not accomplish that for me....

    I thought maybe that White Collar would not premiere until January, but really the wait is not that long now. It could not come at a better time. My TV schedule is filling up quick and that is a good thing, because not much exciting is happening in my life besides work.
