First of all I can only apologise for the various delays to the start of the competition. I had a few problems returning to New York following Irene However that is all sorted, I'm back in front of my computer and ready to get the competition begun!
The rules of the competition are simple. Every day there will be a new set of polls between characters who are bidding to become the winner of the second STV Character Competition.
All you have to do is to vote for whichever characters are your favourite and at the end of the 24 hours whichever character has more votes will be the winner and will progress into the next round. There are three rounds before the quarter finals, semi finals and then the final...
The first day in the competition is kicked off with Willow Rosenberg from Buffy the Vampire Slayer challenging Benjamin Linus from LOST as well as Richard Cypher from short lived Legend of the Seeker taking on Katherine Pierce of The Vampire Diaries. Who will be the first character to reach round two? Who will be the first character to lay down the gauntlet as a top contender?

ReplyDeleteHaving now entered into the bracket I find myself voting for who I think is going to win, instead of who I think is my favourite character, to help my bracket win. I wonder how many others are doing this and if it affects the polls much at all. I suppose with around 300 people making predictions it won't be a big deal, assuming there are thousands of votes as the previous polls had.

I do love Vampire Diaries, but Katherine can`t compete with Richard Cypher... I was so disappointed when LotS got cancelled!

ReplyDeleteI liked Legend of the Seeker, but in all honesty Richard was probably my least favorite part of the series. So much so that I can vote for Katherine Pierce.
Ben Linus and Katherine Pierce...I hate voting against Buffy but Ben Linus is on of my favourite characters on TV.

First poll was easy for me. I've seen a couple eps of Buffy from each
season. And I did not like it at all. But I absolutely love LOST. So,
despite I hate Ben as a character, I still vote for him because I love
LOST. lol
Second poll was though for me. Both shows are good. I voted for
Katherine just because she was a breath of fresh air for the show. Show
became more watchable because of her. So it's Katherine.

ReplyDeleteWhile I still love Katherine I don't really think she was used properly (or at least not how I'd have preferred her to be used). I just think after the build up of her being so dangerous in Season 1, she turned up and became less terrifying and more of a nuisance. I just hope she's a bit more of an evil bitch this season. That however didn't have anything to do with why I chose Richard. xD I just like him better.

My second vote goes to Richard Cypher because if I have to choose between two characters that I am not particularly invested in, I am always going to go for the guy. Call it female instinct............!

ReplyDeleteWow, Willow X Ben. that was hard to vote. I voted for Willow only because I tought Ben would have enough votes on his own and Willow deserves some love. I didn´t vote on the second pool ´cause I don´t watch either (or didn´t watch) of the shows, so I don´t have an opinion there.

I guess this is a girl power vote of sorts - Willow and Katherine. Choosing between Willow and Linus was a real pain.
ReplyDeleteI always vote my heart unless it is two characters I don't know well. I hope others do the same because in the end it is not about the bracket but encouraging people to try new shows and promoting the ones you love. I have found several "hidden gems" through these contests and they have helped me through 3 long hiatuses. Castle and Veronica Mars are two of them.

ReplyDeleteI loved Willow in the beginning of the series but I too had problems with her rapid changes. It seemed like they changed the character to move the plot instead of developing the plot around the character.

I voted for Willow Rosenberg because I never had the opportunity to watch Lost. I wish I had. It was a great cast. I also voted for Katherine Pierce. A Really wasn't much of a choice for me on that one. I watch VPD but really am not a fan of Nina. I watched Buffy enough to vote for the character.

ReplyDeleteI'm surprised how close the first poll still is (yay Willow). However I think I underestimated Katherine as I have Ben beating her in the next round. If the votes stay the same he doesn't stand much of a chance.

Elena and Stefan are a little too bland for my taste; Jeremy too angsty with all his girlfriends winding up dead and Caroline and her love triangle far too soap opera-ish.
With Damon and Katherine, you just know you are in for a wild ride.
I think Buffy was midseason so technically the pilot aired in 1997 but it was part of the 1996-1997 tv season.
