White Collar - Main Titles Debate

7 Jul 2011

Just weeks after unveiling the brand-spanking-new main titles on White Collar, USA Network will allow fans to determine whether it will stay or go, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

Beginning Friday, July 8, fans will be able to vote on whether to keep the new titles or revert back to the original sequence through www.characterchatter.com. Polling will close on Wednesday, July 13 at noon EST, and the winning choice will be unveiled during the July 19 episode and continue for the remainder of Season 3.

The new main title sequence, which premiered last month during Season 3's second episode, takes place in a museum-like setting and shows the show's main cast in picture frames. The facelift has quickly become a hot topic among fans on Twitter, who say they simply miss the original opening and that the new titles are "too cheesy." Some fans went so far as to launch a Facebook page to resurrect the first sequence, which features several fast-moving images from the first season.

"Where would Neal Caffrey be without a second chance? Our new main title sequence has been hotly debated with opinions covering a broad spectrum," series creator and executive producer Jeff Eastin said in a statement. "We respect the opinions of our fans and we couldn't think of a better way to reward their dedication than empowering them with this decision."

Eastin had been asking for fan feedback about the new main titles through his personal Twitter account.

"Our Characters Welcome brand philosophy is predicated on the inclusion of everyone — especially our audience," USA's senior vice president of brand marketing and digital, Alexandra Shapiro, said. "So when debate ensued among our core White Collar fans we decided crowdsourcing was an optimal way to involve our fans in determining the main title sequence's fate."

  1. They must go.

  2. I am not a fan of the new title sequence. It has some charm and is better than the original title sequence, but the second one used for most of Season One and Season Two is the best IMO.

  3. Add me to the "bring back the old title sequence" bandwagon!

  4. I prefer the old one!!!!

  5. mmmm wait, how many title sequences are? I thought there were 2... or I misunderstood your post?

  6. So that's why he tweeted asking for people's opinions on it 4 times last night.  Ha!  USA I love your use of social media to engage your audience.  I think it is the best of any network.  But you know this is going to come back to haunt you when fans decide that they want to vote on the real debate this season:  Should Sarah stay or go?

  7. There are 3. First one was really lame, though.

  8. The first was for the first 8 or 9 episodes only. Each leter in the title appeared alone until it spelled out WHITE COLLAR. Then in Episode 10(?) they switched to the familiar title sequence. The Season Three Tittle is the third.

  9. In with the old, out with the new!
The new one is to mellow, soft and plain cheesy. It doesn't reflect the feel of the show imo.

  10. oh, I looked them up on youtube! I didn't remember the first one, but yeah, I think the second is the best!! Music in the last one is the thing that annoys me, I think...

  11. There's a new one?

  12. Agreed. The music is the worst. If it had the old music I think I could handle it.

  13. Jeff Eastin just tweeted the following:

Yes, @SharifAtkins & Hilarie will be added to the old MT if it wins the vote.

  15. Scratch that, just looked it up and I guess I never watched the first few minutes of the 1 episode I've seen this season.

  16. Yes, I also thought that. Old music fits perfectly with the mood of the show... new is kinda... don't know how to describe it :/

  17. great! Hope it wins!! :)

  18. Someone asked Jeff Eastin if they could have new title sequence with old music but that's a no go.  Old sequence with old music or new sequence with new music.

  19. The main title for this season is awful especially the music as it does not match the feel of the show.  Also for the 2nd one!

  20. I don't like any of the three title sequences but the latest one is by far the worst. Seriously, why not just use a calling card like Supernatural, just the title of the series and that's it, if they can't come up with anything intelligent?

  21. hmmm so ... old music and old sequence then! :)

  22. I just finished season 1(after long consideration on whether I should watch it) and I absolutely loved it!
I can't really decide about the title sequences, cause right now I'm in the overly enthusiastic phase, where I love everything about the show!
    But maybe,the second one.I don't know...

  23. I think they're fine. I don't understand the big deal over this.

  24. It wasn't broke, why try to fix it?

  25. I don't like the new sequence, I loved the previous one. I guess the music is the thing that annoys the most about the new main title. I vote, bring back the previous sequence!!
