The Walking Dead - How do you feel about Frank Darabont's departure as show runner? *UPDATED*

UPDATE: Now that we know that Darabont was in fact fired, what's your opinion now?

It's been a while since my last The Walking Dead poll. But with the new trailer and all the coverage from Comic-Con I think there was enough stuff to enjoy for TWD fans.

This poll deals with the other big issue surrounding The Walking Dead these days - the sudden departure of Frank Darabont as show runner. He has been working a long time to get a tombie show on TV and always seemed incredibly enthusiastic, but rumour says that he never really was able to adapt to the schedule of a TV show runner.
The new man in charge is Darabont's number two Glen Mazzara best known for his work on The Shield.

What is your opinion on this change?

Apart from that I've recently done the unthinkable and created a Twitter account to get out all the Walking Dead info here on SpoilerTV and maybe for additional info that isn't exactly suitable for here: Walking Dead @ SpoilerTV

As usual, the old polls are still open for you to vote and comment on:
Which characters do you mostly want to see come back in season 2?
Which characters from the comics would you like to see cast next?
Are you reading the comics?

  2. I guess it was expected he would leave, but even so it's sad to see him go since I think he connected to the material so well.

  3. I'm a little apprehensive, but we'll see.

Since he was showrunner, he was responsible for the later episodes, which turned out to be average at best. So.....yeah, I'm sure Mazzara will do just fine as showrunner (maybe we'll have a higher number of 'good episodes' in S2 because of him than we did in Season 1 because of Darabount).

  5. I don't know how I feel. I just hope the show won't suffer for it!

  7. I'm kind of torn about it. The main reason I watched the show to begin with is because I'm such a fan of Darabont's work, so I'm sad that he isn't a part of it anymore, but that does give him free time to get back to making awesome movies, so that's awesome. And as for if the show will suck now that he's gone, I wouldn't think so. It may not be the same, but I'm positive it will still be at least somewhat awesome.

  8. Hopefully the show wont suffer. Any one know if he will still be part of it?

  9. Well, the writing couldn't get any worse.

  10. Nothing has been made official about this yet. I suppose they are negotiating.

  11. I think there are far worse written shows out there. While I agree that it wasn't on par with shows like Breaking Bad or Mad Men (especially the last 3 episodes), there are so many shows that don't come close to the quality of TWD.

  12. I like Darabont's film work a lot, but i don't feel he'll be missed on TWD.....can't wait for S2!

  13. Just sad that he couldn't handle it.  Why take the job in the first place?  duh.

  14. They seem to have a capable guy who's running the show now and the first season wasn't exactly mind-blowing, so from a creative standpoint, I don't expect it'll have an huge impact. However, the way AMC treated Darabont and the show, that just wasn't cool.

  15. I dont care for these decisions usually as long as the show does not suffer, but I feel the way this whole thing played out was bad. It was poorly handled and the decision came after Frank Darabont was trying to keep the finances of the shows from hampering the creativity of the show and I feel he was fired because of it. Now, I have to assume they have placed someone in his place who they can dictate their terms to. I was really amazed when AMC executives started telling them how many indoor scenes and outdoor scenes to film. I think AMC does not know how to handle it's success.

  16. I'm more of a combo that I'm not happy about it but I hope that the show wont suffer as Darabont helped put together a great show that had other great contributors who will now step up to the plate.

  17. I think the more worrying issue is, if the new showrunner is someone the AMC execs can push around the execs could still ruin the show.   These execs have had issues with nearly every original program on their slate.  So, it can still go either way, I think.
