The Walking Dead - Filming in Sharpsburg on August 1st

Filming for zombie TV series "The Walking Dead" is continuing in Coweta County.

Earlier this month, a film crew shot scenes for the latest season of the popular AMC show at Newnan High School. Now, on Aug. 1 a crew will be filming in downtown Sharpsburg.

Set preparations began July 18 at an old brick country store building on Main Street to convert the space into a temporary drugstore for "The Walking Dead," according to the building's owner, Herb Bridges.

Crew members contacted Bridges last January scouting locations to film. Bridges was contacted again in May to ask for permission to film at his building. Bridges told them he'd rented the space to a woman who was going to open a children's shop -- but she hadn't moved in yet.

Bridges talked to his renter, who agreed to postpone her move-in date in order for filming to occur.

"They've been putting up temporary stuff like shelves and decorating like a drug store," said Bridges.

In addition to filming on Aug. 1, the crew has indicated that they'd like to return in August to film additional scenes, according to Bridges.

When asked if the idea of his building being featured in a hit zombie show excites him, Bridges said, "It excites my grandchildren -- they all know about this show and just thought that it was wonderful.

"I'm hoping it will be publicity for the shops and for Sharpsburg," he added.

Filming at Newnan High was a "fairly large piece of work," according to location manager Michael Riley. In the scene, survivors encounter a hoard of zombies at the school, which was staged to look like an abandoned Federal Emergency Management Agency camp.

  1. Wow, first they use Newnan in Zombieland, and now The Walking Dead too, eh?
    That's like 30 minutes from here. O.o
