The Walking Dead - Are you reading the comics?

26 Jul 2011

It's a new week and so it's time for a new The Walking Dead poll. Today I have a pretty easy question: Are you reading the comics? Some of you already know the comics, some plan on reading them sooner or later while others don't want to be spoiled and try to stay away from Robert Kirkman's popular graphic novel. So take a quick moment and let us know which group you belong to.

But before I want to take a quick look at the results of the first two polls. Last week I ran two polls and in the first one I asked which season 1 characters that left or got separated from the main survivor group you'd like to see come back in the show's second season. And here's the result:

More than half of you want to see Lennie James and Adrian Kali Turner to reprise their roles as Morgan und Duane Jones from the pilot episode 'Days Gone Bye'. But there's also a big amount of SpoilerTV voters that want to have Daryl Dixon's brother Merle back who we've last seen cutting off his hand on the roof of a building inside Atlanta.
Morales and his family who decided to leave the group before going to the CDC as well as Guillermo and his Vatos are no priorities for most voters. However the Vatos although not officially confirmed seem like a sure thing for a season 2 comeback already.

The other poll was about which characters from the comics you would like to see cast next since AMC already announced which actors will take on the roles of Hershel, his daughter Maggie and Otis. Because the poll and the following analysis contain some spoilers for non-comic readers, I'll hide them for everyone who doesn't want to be spoiled.

So now let's start with the new poll. I am a reader of the comics, but I only started after watching the first season of the TV show. What about you?

And as always feel free to spread the word around the social networks. Thanks for that! If you have any ideas or wishes for future polls, constructive criticism or something else to say, leave a comment.

Of course you can also still vote in the old polls. If something significant should change in them, I'll mention it in one of my future posts.
Which characters do you mostly want to see come back in season 2?
Which characters from the comics would you like to see cast next?

  1. Nope, haven't read them and never will. Comics aren't really my thing. The show is great, though!

  2. The Walking Dead is why I got back into comics a few years ago. It's so well written. I know some people who weren't happy when the show didn't follow the books exactly. However, I embrace it. It gives me new adventures with characters I love, plus some new characters to love/hate.

  3. You really should read the WD series, klutzy. I usually hate reading comics, but the WD has been fantastic and has kept me enthralled every second (not to mention it has infinitely more character development in the first few issues than the tv series had in its first full six episodes)

  4. I haven't read it yet, but Sandman from Neil Gaiman is an outstanding comics; just mentioning that, even though the format might be unusual, we can find really interesting themes wrapped in seemingly childish drawings (eg.: Mr. Punch by the same author mentioned above).

So, I hope I will read WD series as well.

The Walking Dead fans should start reading the comic! It's a piece of art! You are hooked from the very moment you start reading, same as with the show, as soon as you start watching it, you can't stop!

  6. For many years the only comic book I read was Spawn, but then the German publisher that used to put it out went bankrupt and I lost track of it for some time while they were sorting out how to proceed. A few months ago I decided I wanted to catch up again and got many of the issues I missed. And then I though why not start with The Walking Dead? The show was great, it's also Image Comics which stands for quality and it blew my mind, it's awesome.
And so I'm currently reading The Maxx and might be checking some other comics out, it really rekindled my interest in comics.

  7. It's definitely worth checking out. Originally I only wanted to read up to the point where the show currently is, but then I just couldn't contain myself and had to read all of the comics. It's great stuff!

  8. Is there a site that lists all the comics? I haven't read any, but my continuing liking of this show is making think I should.

  9. Do you mean a site where you can read the comics online or a site where you can buy them? Well, there are certainly ways online to get ahold of the comics like for example looking for torrents. The other possibility is to check out the Image Comics website - http://www.imagecomics.com/ - or look around on eBay.

Anyway, I can only recommend the comics, they are really great!

  10. Nope and I won't. Don't care for any comics of any kind. I love to read and don't care much for pictures in books unless it's more story than pictures. But the show is awesome!

  11. Why does it seem like this thread has appeared 3 times?  I swear it keeps popping on and off the front page.  Perhaps the thread is a zombie itself.

  13. I'm another peron that doesn;t read comics, I just don't like them.  Mind you I almost gave up onth e TV show to begin with too as it was so slow going...

  14. Slow moving plots and stories are pretty much a trademark of AMC shows. I personally like it a lot, but that definitely is a question where opinions differ.

  15. I never read the comics and I don´t think I´ll ever get around to it. I love reading and have nothing against comic books. Right now I´m reading GoT (aDwD). Love that show and had to read the books. Don´t feel the same need with The walking dead.

I think the show is good, I like it´s pace, just like I like the pace in the other AMC shows.
