The show’s 10-episode order was a large and unusual commitment for Torchwood partner BBC, he pointed out, and he hinged the pickup more on whether creator Russell T Davies comes up with a great new idea that can work for both partners.“Torchwood is not one of the show we went into thinking about a yearly return,” Albrecht said moments later to critics. “It’s about Russell T Davies … he has a lot of things on his plate. If Torchwood is at the top of his list, that will effect the future of Torchwood.”

Frankly, I'm not surprised.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised either i guess, but I am disappointed nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteExtremely disappointed.
ReplyDeleteDisappointing... I've been enjoying the mini-series thats on atm!
ReplyDeleteim sure they said at the start they do it a season at a time and only make a new show based on if the story is right. Id rather have quality then quantity if that makes sense
ReplyDeleteThe whole showrunner thing is new to them over in the UK. In the US a few great showrunners have more than one show that puts out 22 eps a year. So I'm tired of UK writers, directors and producers complaining over their workload.
ReplyDeleteTypical its the best show on uk tv at the moment even better than Dr Who that should be cancelled instead its awful
ReplyDeleteOh Captain Jack, say it aint so! Ianto should come back as a ghost.
ReplyDeletethat is interesting!
ReplyDeleteThere was info recently that he has project for Showtime, so you might be right.
ReplyDeleteI hated this season. Not interested in the return
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling they are going to work in one of the enemies from the Doctor Who series as the organization who is at the root of the concept....
ReplyDeleteI suspect maybe something like the Timelords or the Metal things, cant remember the name... Those two would be the most likely I think since they have the ability to travel in time and effect mass changes on a planet wide scale...
Metal ones are more likely since the Timelords would not seem to have a use for earth...
I think it will get a fifth series. We had to wait TWO YEARS for the fourth one, but it was worth it. The story arc is well-thought and well-written and if more waiting means another great story like Miracle Day (or Children of Earth, that was amazing as well), I'm all for it.
ReplyDeleteWaiting 2 years for Torchwood return was a torture for me (and I think I'm not the only one!) I just hope that Russell won't give up HIS baby! Torchwood without him, Jack/John Barrowman and Gwen/Eve Myles IS NOT Torchwood! So, please Russell come back for at least two little years!!!!
ReplyDeleteI do not remember any specific announcements from Starz before the screening in reference to seasonal pickup just alot of speculation from the fans,Th Starz viewing figuires have not been thatt good -they were down 11% from ep 1 and Camelot had similar figuires as was not picked up.Better figuires in the UK but that means Starz is virtually paying for a uk show.Considering all the hype I would have expected a better response. The reception has also been mixed both from critics and the fans.
ReplyDeleteI have not found it compares favorably to the first 3 seasons --the UK/USA mix is not comfortable and it just feels like something is missing.I am pretty luke warm to another season so much of what we have seen has been quite repetitive and predictable and the charactors do not seem as well written as in the original series
Which would easily explain why it is that 99% of all USA TV output is utter shit. Brits may do less, but they do it much better than any US showrunner, who is trying to juggle 4 or 5 shows per year.
ReplyDeleteAnd it clarifies why so much of the aforementioned shit, never gets passed mid season, or at best one season. US TV is chaotic bullshit for most of the time. It's a wonder anything get renewed at all!
This 4th season of TW is mind-numbingly tedious crap, with useless fools of heroes, making the worst possible decisions, every time, at every opportunity, in a story that is going at an asthmatc disabled snail's pace.
If there is no pick up I will not be the slightest bit surprised
I agree on the state of American TV. That is why our family watchs BBCA and older(even vintage) UK shows on PBS stations here in the US.
ReplyDeleteMe either, the cynic in me thinks that RTD just wanted a foot in the door in LA ;)
