I'm pretty sure this is the Sam promo that aired during last night's video. So exciting to be getting any promotion from the CW. And just in time for voting in the Teen Choice Awards. Go figure. :-P
OMG, I don't recall EVER seeing a Sam only promo; not even those quick scene flash ones at the end of the episode. Of course, I only started watching in the middle of Season 3... and the CW is reluctant to show any Supernatural promos let alone a comprehensible one. CW promos for Supernatural are more like quick teases normally. I hope we get a Dean one too. I think they should do more "real" promos like this one and the "Oh Death" promos last year.
You know, they've lost Smallville. Supernatural won a few major things last year and this year. The just never would take notice and do anything for them. Maybe this new head is a wiser. I hope so.
It would be a strange and delightful switch if the CW were more concerned about promoting Supernatural than the fans. :-P Still, seeing this promo gives me a lot of hope about where Supernatural stands in the overall CW netlet. We certainly haven't gotten anything like this since it was the WB.
I think it was Sera Gamble who mentioned the new boss' support, that he asked them if they would be willing to stay longer than S7, good ratings given, of course.
I can't imagine what it would be like to have "real" promos all of the time for Supernatural; though I gotta give props to the "previous administration" for the Oh Death promo. I am just glad to see a "new" promo in the summer. Normally I wouldn't expect anything like this until September. Now, I am really excited.
I would love to see one of Dean, one of Castiel, and one of Bobby... Sam & Dean of course can be in the Castiel and Bobby ones :-) I can never get enough of them. But, what I really want to see is those promos playing during other shows. I admit that I don't watch too many shows on the CW, but I do watch it occasionally (mostly ANTM and local programming) and I have only seen a Supernatural promo maybe 5 times in 3.5 years that wasn't during the Smallville / Supernatural time period. Since I see Gossip Girl and others during the local programming slots, I should see an occasional Supernatural also... but I seldom do.
I dunno if this aired last night (in NY, the stupid Mets vs Yankees game was on so SPN is on tonight), but its an awesome ad...and OMG the scene when he's in the bathroom hooking up with that girl!!!
Not sure if Sera mentionned it, but I know jensen talked about it, that Dawn wasn't really liking the show (DUH!!) but the new guy really loves it and one of the very first thing he did after coming was to go to J&J and ask them if they were interested in signing for a 8th season if ratings allow them too :)
I have to say I'm impress :P First time in the 5 yearson the CW where a SPN promo doesn't look made in 5 minutes by a 10 years-old boy on Window Movie Maker
It's great that the show is finally getting some advertising love from the network- it's about time!
But I have to say that I'm not holding my breath for a Dean only promo.I'd love to be wrong but my guess is that, if there's another promo, it'll be about the brothers or the show in general . From how Dean was barely mentioned -if at all - Sera and Singer's recent interviews and how there was so little effort to give Dean a cohesive, meaningful storyline last season, I'm just not getting any vibes that there's much investment in his character these days. That impression hasn't been helped with the Sam only spoilers for 7.3 and now, the Sam only promo put out by the network. I don't care that Sam's getting attention- I just want the same for Dean too!
:) I don't think there's much reason to worry, or at least not now with so many little infos. After all, Dean was always closer to Cas, he even said that Cass was like a brother to him, so what happened will have a big impact on him. And in the last 3 episodes we already saw the impact they had on each-other (like Dean was a big reason why Cass broke and went crazy before the souls thing) and Cass totally broke Dean heart too
Totally agree that the Cas storyline has a lot of potential for Dean and it could be a great arc for both characters. I guess I've just gotten kind of disillusioned over the last few seasons, seeing how many other potentially good Dean storylines ended up being ignored or dropped. Makes it hard to trust that things might be different this time around, especially when there's still nothing about Dean while last season's focus on Sam seems to be carrying over.
I'm really curious what's going to come out of Comic Con this year.
Omg amazing. This video is epic!! Australia recently has been playing season 6 pretty successfully. Te French mistake was on last week. Love that episode!!
I know; it is positively shocking. Imagine if this year Supernatural fans and the CW did not have relationship based on derision, mistrust and mutual loathing. To have something positive to say about the netlet that didn't involve the fact that they renewed the show. It's unsettling a thought but one I hope we have over and over again this season.
I'm SO glad this was uploaded! Nueva, you're so awesome girl. ♥ I saw this last night while watching the rerun of Family Matters so I was hoping we'd see it online somewhere. I'm so glad it made it online. :D It really is awesome. I think it's possible it may be foreshadowing what we could see for Sam this coming season 7 with his guilt from his soulless acts and his memories of Hell meshing together. What he said in the promo is SO just...Sammy. ♥ I love it!
I like that they were able to use some of the great camera work and effects from Unforgiven for a promo. That episode was really well done, and the darkness and noir feel of it really captured what Sam's story is now.
I saw this during the encore ep last night and my initial reactions was, why are they running a new promo about old stuff? I'm actually glad to see the network airing anything for Supernatural -- since they've barely even acknowledged the show in the past, but I just thought it was strange they'd make such a one-sided piece about Sam concerning all the stuff that was last season. It didn't give me anything to look for to next season at all and didn't really highlight what the basis of the show's even about. So, to me, it was just strange.
It's sad that, upon seeing the title of this topic, my first thought about this was that it's just going to start another firestorm of complaints and arguments. So, to paraphrase Principal Seymour Skinner...
I'm only in here to get directions on how to get away from here.
Sad isn't it. That's exactly why I did not post it myself but went through the Submit Scoop feature so I could to add a caveat that it might start trouble. Too bad because 6 months ago, I would have posted it without any thought. I'm hoping it's just the hellatus blues that are making people itchy and everything will go smoother once season 7 starts. On the plus side, we are only a couple days away from the official start of the season. Woo hoo!
It is sad. I'm starting to put the majority of vocal Supernatural fans in the same category as the overzealous Bones fans. If it does turn out that way, this will be another show that I watch but seldom discuss because it's no longer any fun to do so.
I am pretty sure it was run because Jared Padalecki is in the race for the Teen Choice Awards and voting is happening right now. The CW has on occasion highlighted when these fan based polls are happening. They did it with the Peoples Choice Awards before and have definitely mentioned the Teen Choice Awards for the last few years. I don't think it had anything to do with promoting Supernatural's season 7. I find the lack of even saying when the show airs telling. I do think that it was a fan gift from the CW, something we have lacked since the beginning. I have no concern at all that it was Sam-based or only season 6 for that matter. In fact, I think this is a huge step on the CW's part to acknowledge that Supernatural is one of their most popular shows. It's about time someone besides the fandom did.
Have hope! I am pleasantly surprised at how well this thread is going right now. And yes, I do realize that I have just jinxed the whole thing.
But I do get your Bones concern too. I mentioned that I liked Hannah on one site and barely escaped with my life. :-) What can I say? I thought the Bones-Booth "will they won't they" was stretched out far too long and no longer any fun. Hannah was a breath of fresh air.
What's bad is it more like 2-3 person who always want to pick a fight and come posting in every single topic just to try to do some provocation. If those 2-3 haters/trollers would leave it would be fine. can't we just said someone to the moderators about those person who just want to ruin everything just for the sake of ruining it?
I take it it's a good sign that we get a promo. I hope the rumor is true and the new boss really is a fan of Supernatural. Now all we need are good ratings.
Even though this initially ran during the Supernatural rerun, I think something like this would be targeted more toward new viewers rather than current viewers. And it makes sense to me for a few reasons.
First, Sam's got a pretty simple story to tell right now, and marketing campaigns love simple messages. His story is a gorgeous guy who has hot sex with women in bathrooms did some really bad things and now has to make amends. This focus on a singular character, rather than the convoluted plot, reminds me of the "characters first" campaign by USA Network, and the CW campaign for the new Sarah Michelle Geller show, which I keep seeing even though I didn't think I watch a lot of CW. I guess I'm seeing it while watching some syndicated shows and movies on the network. The SMG promo is her in a sexy evening gown saying she never thought it would come to this. It tells me nothing on what the show is about, but it makes me want to watch it.
Second, the quality of the filming of Unforgiven was really a cut above what they usually do, and it doesn't surprise me that they would take advantage of it to promote the show to people who don't usually watch. When I saw the episode, I was thinking that I wouldn't be surprised if they won some awards for the camera work.
Third, I wouldn't expect them to be divulging anything about next season yet. They haven't even filmed it yet, so focusing on the characters makes sense at this point.
See, if it's aimed at new viewers, that promo gives a really skewed message of what the SPN is about. If I didn't know better, I'd think that Sam was the main character and the show was his story. Now, if another promo about Dean pops up, then I can understand the "character" marketing approach because then you got both leads getting equal focus.
To be honest, I don't think the objective of marketers or advertisers is to give a fair, balanced overview of their show/product, but rather to hook someone to watch/buy. The viewer will find out what the show is about when he gets there. And Sam just got back his Hell/soulless memories in the finale, so I'd expect that at least part of his personal story next season will be about trying to make peace with his past. And I also wouldn't be surprised if this is followed by a promo about Dean or Cas.
It's like the summer before the final season of Lost. The fans were in an uproar because the promos kept focusing on the love triangle, which most fans considered over already, rather than the mystery of the island. But it was easier to sell to new fans hot cage-sex love triangle reaches conclusion, rather than mysteries about magical healing island with smoke monster guarded by man who goes around touching young children and making planes crash on island and causes time loops will be be revealed.
For me, it was aimed at current viewers instead of new ones so I don't think there is much to worry about. It didn't give information about when to watch the show from what I can tell and it was shown during Supernatural when they could expect people who already watch Supernatural to view it. I think the CW was giving Supernatural fans a bone and I am all for that. I expect to get major (well at least as major as the CW gets for Supernatural) promos starting in August. July is a bit early.
Sounds like the new guy at cw knows a thing or two about promoting his stars as well as his shows AND acknowledging the fans along the way. I like this guy already. I might have to send him a fruit basket LOL
I guess I'm cynical. I think promos aimed at current viewers are usually timed to give fans reminders, such as right before the show is set to restart after a break, or when something cool is coming. This felt like it was more about piquing interest in the show.
I don't think they put the time the show is supposed to air on promos unless they're promoting something that's going to run in the next week or two. I don't think the Ringer promo has the timeslot on it either.
Either way it's the first step in the right direction :) If it was a gift for the current fans or a promotion to try to reach new person...both are new and refreshing :)
How many new fans can they get at this point? If I were a new viewer, I'd prefer things that threaten the world rather than one dude having a breakdown.
Considering there ARE Dean fans who would like to know there's something interesting to watch, it'd be nice to be shown that he's worth having a promo for and not a group one where he's an afterthought. Or I think people will be right in assuming the same thing as bevarshii.
I jumped on in season five (have since catched up) and I've read several posts from other people who started late. I like personal stories, and as I mentioned earlier, I'll be checking out Ringer even though I haven't heard anything about the end of the world on it.
Excellent compilation of clips from Unforgiven! The "souled" Sam voiceover was so sincere ... I want to cry again over how damaged Sam was and still is.
I agree too. I think this Sam -centric promo was kind of like the "jingle" promo with both boys - Dean in "Heavenly" greens and blues and underneath and upside down (then rightside up) Sam in red "Hell" tones.
On the other hand, they shouldn't give out the message to fans who've been watching all along that "it's the Sam show, eat it or bug off" unless they really do want people to bug off. And especially when there has been concerns about not wanting ANOTHER season of characters flapping their gums about his rustiness/weakness/uselessness/whatever. yeesh, the Campbells couldn't get off the screen fast enough but I had to tolerate half a season of that then you cap off the season with Sam lambasting Dean as being shady.
I'm glad they're finally running promos and showing Jared some love, but the clips of the poorly written Campbell clan/Sam sans soul story arc isn't exactly the best way to get me pumped up for the next season. Hmm.
I'm actually wondering if this might be the promax video winner for when CW hosted a video competition via promax's site it was something around winter hellatus. If I'm not mistaken there would have been plenty of time since the deadling for a winner to have been picked and their video to start airing.
As far as I'm concerned anything that can help in bringing a wider audience to the show is welcome, whether it be Sam promos, Dean promos or Bones the dog from Falstaff promos!
This has nothing to do with this thread but I was just thinking about the younger female characters who have been on the show such as Bela, the Rubys, Jo, and Lisa who have been the most long-lived so to say, and who were never really accepted by most fans. The "older ones" such as Ellen and Mary have always been welcomed back with open arms.
It makes me curious to know if there could EVER be any way that a young female regular could be introduced into the show in a way that would please fans without of course ruining Sam and Dean's brotherly relationship?
To be truthful, I quite liked Bela. I thought she was a good foil for the boys. Maybe the writers made her a bit too smart-ass but I wouldn' have minded seeing her pop-up now and then.
I assume you mean as a romantic pairing? I don't think fans would EVER not complain about a new female being introduced, but maybe if the females weren't living with them, weren't in every episode, and didn't need to be protected it might work. There would have to be one for each of the brothers or else the fans on the other side would riot.
Personally, I think Cas should emerge from his God trip as a human in a new female vessel (sorry, but Destiel isn't going anywhere with Misha playing Cas), and they should introduce a brainy brunette who is somehow connected to the Supernatural world and who can defend herself for Sam (maybe a female Ash).
Thanks for the vid rec- our fans are a talented bunch!Speaking of which, I'm thinking that perhaps the poster below was right and this promo is actually the winner of the "Making the Cut" competition. IIRC, there was a really good S6 promo that came out last summer that also fooled us into thinking it was from the network. Of course, it would be great if the CW started advertising the show more heavily but as has been said, we still have a way to go before the new season starts up.
No,I dont necessarily mean as a romantic pairing as I don' t think that's in the books.
After all neither Jo nor Bela could have been called a romantic interest and in Ruby and Lisa's case there were extenuating cicumstances that caused the boys to get involved with them.
I was thinking more along the lines of a female Hendricksen or a doctor or just some grateful person they had helped who would come over for them when in need.
I liked Pamela. She was good against the boys and her psychic powers were useful too.
I know that Bobby does most of this but it would be nice to open things up to an interesting new character. As for Castiel, we willl have to wait and see what the writers decide to do with him before we can say anything regards
Sorry. Because you specified younger, I assumed you meant a romantic interest. I think of Jo and Bela as potential Dean romantic interests who never progressed because of fan reaction.
I'd also like to see a wider network of friends, male or female.
I had high hopes that Dr Visyak from 'Like a Virgin' would become a recurring character (although older than you're suggesting) She would've been great - she was a better groomed, but no less snarky version of Bobby, who had a wealth of knowledge that would've been useful.- but, wouldn't you know it? They KILLED HER OFF!! Now there's a total shocker!!Knowing the level of fangirl hysteria around any suggestion of a potential love interest on the show, there's only one way a younger woman would be accepted - she'd have to be gay. And totally kickass.
Well, they could probably accept a Nun too, only joking!
Well, do you remember Nancy, the little virgin secretary in Jus in Bello, I thought Dean was so sweet and protective towards her so maybe we could solve the problem with a little teen sister wannabee!!!!
As I said, I quite liked Bela but I never really saw her as a romantic interest for Dean but more as someone whom he could pit his wits against and not come out on top 100% of the time! Jo could have been, character- wise but that would have left Sam out on a limb!
Apart from the fan reaction , with it being the kind of show that relies so heavily on the brotherly bonding it would be very difficult to give either brother a credible and caring love interest. T hey themselves would be the first not to want it as they know the danger it would put their loved ones in. regards
I think I'm in the minority in that I find the need for constant brotherly bonding a bit much at times. While I don't want them fighting or distrusting each other again, I think distance and separate storylines are sometimes welcome changes. I thought the brotherly dynamic in seasons 1 and 2 was a little more realistic than what it's become. When they were around each other too much, they started to bicker like typical siblings. I liked that.
Your point about putting someone in danger is true. Any romantic interest would need to understand the Supernatural universe as well as the boys do and would need to be able to protect themselves - the way Bobby presumably can.
I loved the brotherly bickering in season 1and 2 and probably if Sam had managed to save Dean from going to Hell it might have continued that way but now too much bad has happened and things have gotten heavier and darker and Dean and Sam are no longer the same guys they were then.
They've been betrayed and played by demons and angels, last of all the big one by Castiel, so it's only natural that they would come to depend more and more on each other and be diffident of others. However it would be nice if they could lighten up a little, become more sociable and give us some more of those happy Sam and Dean smiles we used to get at the start.
The episode with Sam and this Amy person might be a step in the right direction.
I think that a lot of people want them to be almost "married" to each other in that they're the end-all, be-all and that's so unhealthy and too much like Twillight, which the show itself has mocked.
Jo was brought on as a romantic interest for Dean but her character wasn't really written in a way that fans could swallow back in season 2. She came off as another younger sibling. I liked Bela and Pamela and of course Lisa myself. Perhaps the only younger female that has survived is Meg and people have mixed feelings about her too.
I think that any younger female that has the potential to become a love triangle is automatically met with suspicion. Supernatural has thus far avoided the typical love triangle situation and anything that could possibly go there is scorned. It doesn't matter if they are originally introduced as possible dates or not.
I miss Dr. Visyak even though we hardly had time to get to know her. Perhaps it is more accurate to say I miss her potential. I think it would be easier to give Bobby a love interest than either brother these days.
That's the thing, I don't want to watch a show about healthy, well-adjusted characters. I want them as messed up as it gets, I want the brothers to be soulmates and live for each other - that's what makes this series special, that it shows you that you CAN be happy and feel fulfilled with a different kind of a relationship in your life, that you don't have to imitate what society tells you is the norm.
The almost painfully close "there's no room for anybody else" relationship between Sam and Dean's what makes Supernatural special, just like, for example, the close relationship between Leto and Ghanima was the be all and end all of the mini-series Children of Dune. I'm actually happy that the writers have the balls to go there, to proudly say "No, these guys don't need anybody else to be happy," that they celebrate their difference. Because personally, I'm sick and tired of every show telling me that the only "healthy" thing is a wife/husband, 2.5 children and the white picket fence and when I don't need that, I'm "unhealthy".
I don't want to see a show about a family with a white picket fence either, but I'd be more comfortable with something in the middle. I'm not familiar with Children of Dune, but what comes to mind for me as an example is Charmed. The sisters lived together and had an unusually close relationship borne of necessity, but also tried to have independent lives with outside relationships and even jobs. It's a different show with different circumstances, and I do love how much Dean and Sam are there for each other, but I also love seeing them bond with other people some times - besides just Bobby.
They're not happy or fulfilled. It's not like I haven't heard of unusual family structures in this day and age but I don't also pretend that people are happy if they're not.
I think that you also have to accept that a great deal many people ARE going to think it's sick, self-destructive and of negative value especially when Sam ran away to have more than his family and Dean is in pain for losing the Braedens and Castiel. Especially when there's constant drinking, arguing, fighting and sniping. I don't romanticize that into being good and swoony.
It would be like idealizing that Austrian guy who kept his daughter imprisoned in the basement for 24 years, abused her, and fathered children with her. Google Fritzl.
I agree with you. A lot of science fiction and fantasy has a lot of non-traditional ideas about what family is but it doesn't keep the members from having many satisfactory relationships with other people.
What I don't like is idealizing angst and isolation and death of anything/anyone that threatens it. It's like a kind of cabin fever that will eventually cause one or the other to kill the other. I wouldn't stick two people on an island and have only each other and the monsters on the island for the rest of their lives with no hope of rescue. It's something I would do to someone who had done me the greatest wrong imaginable, not to someone that I sympathize on any level with.
It's been interesting to read the various opinions from Kati, at one endof the scale, who likes the show for it's intense brotherly relationship, to Skeptical Inquirer at the other end, who prefers an opening of the relationship to other emotional experiences.
I feel that all the viewpionts are valid and that's probably why the writers will never address the issue as they wouldn't be sure which road to go down, regards
Bye the way, Happy 4th July to all you USA-ers out there!
You can't be serious comparing Fritzl to the Winchesters? A man who was raping his daughter for years, holding her prisoner in his cellar, to Sam and Dean who want to stick together because they actually love each other deeply as a family. No wonder you don't like their relationship if you think these two are in any way similar O.o Wow. That's pretty sick.
What's the difference between everybody dying so you don't have anybody but each other and an actual prison?
I simply do not think it's lovely or beautiful that great people & friends like Rufus, Ellen, Jo, Ash, Pamela and Victor die and leave them without anybody to talk to. I miss those people and I dare say that brothers miss them, too.
I would never ask a married couple to NEVER have friends or NEVER talk to anybody else. I would be considered cruel and inhuman to demand that of them.
If I waved a magic wand and poof, you were sentenced to have only one family/friend you could talk to for the rest of your life, I would be considered a very cruel and inhuman person.
Both brothers have wished for a larger circle, a community. That's not a sign of being perfectly happy with the setup.
I think the term is not ',prefer'' but ''hate less with an opening...'' ^^; Skeptical totally hate the whole Season 7, how awful it ''''''was'''''', go see others topics and you'll see.
but I agree for the rest :) I think that's another reason why it's so hard...or say impossible to please everyone. If the writers do something some people will like it, like a profound bro relationship, and others people will hate it and do the opposite, you'll please others people. i hope one day people will understand how it's not that easy to please everyone and stop saying thingd like ''because that episode wasn't in my liking the writers are a bunch of untalented person''
Hi, I've only been posting here for a short time so I haven't read all the back posts and I try to answer on what is currently posted. I have no problem in saying that I love the brothers' relationship which has been forged by their hard and unusual life and upbringing.
It is one of the strengths of the show and is what makes it so different from the majority of other shows which are all similar and for the most part predictable and ultimately boring.eg, cop shows, alien shows, mysterious end of the world shows etc. etc.which never really explore character interaction but just keep it all superficial.
As for the writers I hope that they go with their own ideas and DON'T listen to the fans at all ( myself included ) but do their own thing and follow their vision of where the show should go. regards
I agree that they're not happy or fulfilled. I think the look on Sam's face when his old teacher in After School Special asked him if he was happy said it all. I do think they enjoy and appreciate each other's company, but they've also lost a lot by entering this life, which they've both realized requires them to cut ties with anyone not associated with the life.
It does beg the question why they're still hunting now. It seems to be that they've been doing it so long that they're not able to do anything else. It was an interesting point that while they got into this thinking they were doing good, Eve pointed out that hunters are just part of the natural order and don't really change anything.
Dean's year with Lisa reminded me a little of post-war PTSD, and how soldiers sometimes have a harder time dealing with the trauma and fitting back into normal life after they're removed from it.
I think it does feel like they're just going through the motions (and I mean the characters and the writers). And the continual inability for a win to really stick just feels like they're not doing any LASTING good and they're sacrificing and sacrificing everything for nothing. It's just really depressing.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I'm pretty sure this is the Sam promo that aired during last night's video. So exciting to be getting any promotion from the CW. And just in time for voting in the Teen Choice Awards. Go figure. :-P
ReplyDeleteThanks for sending it to us

ReplyDeletePerhaps the rumors are true. I've heard the new head of the CW is a Supernatural fan. I don't think their timing is coincidental though.
ReplyDeleteReally? I hope this rumor is true. If it is to his credit that we get more promos I love him already!!
ReplyDeleteYou know, they've lost Smallville. Supernatural won a few major things last year and this year. The just never would take notice and do anything for them. Maybe this new head is a wiser. I hope so.

We certainly haven't gotten anything like this since it was the WB.
ReplyDeleteI don' t think he'll have any problems being more popular than Dawn was. :-) He already rocks and I have no idea if this is his doing or not.
ReplyDeleteI think it was Sera Gamble who mentioned the new boss' support, that he asked them if they would be willing to stay longer than S7, good ratings given, of course.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great vid of Sam. I hope that there one will be of Dean soon
ReplyDeleteI like tjis video so much.

ReplyDeleteI dont see any promo here ??? \ : theres only this:
ReplyDeleteThanks to Dahne for the heads up and to Nueva74 for the video.
New Sam season 6 video that aired during Friday's episode.

ReplyDeleteI agree :( I guess that they will only promote what they think will be successful...
ReplyDeleteThx for mention me too "Nueva74" it's an honor! ♥
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss this? I watched last night's ep.
ReplyDeleteI dunno if this aired last night (in NY, the stupid Mets vs Yankees game was on so SPN is on tonight), but its an awesome ad...and OMG the scene when he's in the bathroom hooking up with that girl!!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if Sera mentionned it, but I know jensen talked about it, that Dawn wasn't really liking the show (DUH!!) but the new guy really loves it and one of the very first thing he did after coming was to go to J&J and ask them if they were interested in signing for a 8th season if ratings allow them too :)

And in the last 3 episodes we already saw the impact they had on each-other (like Dean was a big reason why Cass broke and went crazy before the souls thing) and Cass totally broke Dean heart too
ReplyDeleteI hope Dean gets one too. I'd love to see a brother centric one as well.
ReplyDeleteI hear that. I want a Cas promo like this, though I'll doubt they'll make one since he won't be a regular next season. But one can hope..
ReplyDeleteTotally agree that the Cas storyline has a lot of potential for Dean and it could be a great arc for both characters.
ReplyDeleteI'm really curious what's going to come out of Comic Con this year.
Ah, you're right. I knew it was someone important on the show :P
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting. We appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteOmg amazing. This video is epic!!
ReplyDeleteAustralia recently has been playing season 6 pretty successfully.
Te French mistake was on last week. Love that episode!!
Wow.
ReplyDeleteDare I say it?
...Good...job...CW?
It's...in 720p.
ReplyDelete:O
Wow.
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad this was uploaded!
ReplyDeleteThere better be a Dean one because after all, you all say that he's equally as important. So they better SHOW me, not just lip service.
ReplyDelete''When the devil is gones and God takes hold who'll have mercy on our souls...''
ReplyDeleteoohh wait I think it was the opposite ... :P You change that sentence and it'S perfect for S7 :P
Thank you for posting this! We hardly get character-specific promos––and for us to get this is truly miraculous.
ReplyDeleteI love how they tied his soul burning to the wall breaking (which is what all the fans predicted to begin with). Very nice promo.
I like that they were able to use some of the great camera work and effects from Unforgiven for a promo. That episode was really well done, and the darkness and noir feel of it really captured what Sam's story is now.
ReplyDeleteOh, you'll be sure to acknowledge that there's an imbalance if there isn't one, right?
ReplyDeleteI saw this during the encore ep last night and my initial reactions was, why are they running a new promo about old stuff? I'm actually glad to see the network airing anything for Supernatural -- since they've barely even acknowledged the show in the past, but I just thought it was strange they'd make such a one-sided piece about Sam concerning all the stuff that was last season. It didn't give me anything to look for to next season at all and didn't really highlight what the basis of the show's even about. So, to me, it was just strange.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that, upon seeing the title of this topic, my first thought about this was that it's just going to start another firestorm of complaints and arguments. So, to paraphrase Principal Seymour Skinner...
ReplyDeleteI'm only in here to get directions on how to get away from here.
Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteIt is sad. I'm starting to put the majority of vocal Supernatural fans in the same category as the overzealous Bones fans. If it does turn out that way, this will be another show that I watch but seldom discuss because it's no longer any fun to do so.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure it was run because Jared Padalecki is in the race for the Teen Choice Awards and voting is happening right now.
ReplyDeleteHave hope! I am pleasantly surprised at how well this thread is going right now. And yes, I do realize that I have just jinxed the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteBut I do get your Bones concern too.
ReplyDeleteI liked Hannah too but the only person disgruntled Bones fans hate more than Hannah is EP Hart Hanson.
ReplyDeleteI take it it's a good sign that we get a promo. I hope the rumor is true and the new boss really is a fan of Supernatural. Now all we need are good ratings.
ReplyDeleteEven though this initially ran during the Supernatural rerun, I think something like this would be targeted more toward new viewers rather than current viewers. And it makes sense to me for a few reasons.
ReplyDeleteFirst, Sam's got a pretty simple story to tell right now, and marketing campaigns love simple messages.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I don't think the objective of marketers or advertisers is to give a fair, balanced overview of their show/product, but rather to hook someone to watch/buy.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the summer before the final season of Lost.
ReplyDeleteWoo hooo !!!!!
ReplyDeleteIs it wrong that I'm so excited over a very short vid like this?
CAN'T WAIT for S7
Sounds like the new guy at cw knows a thing or two about promoting his stars as well as his shows AND acknowledging the fans along the way. I like this guy already.
ReplyDeleteI might have to send him a fruit basket LOL
I guess I'm cynical. I think promos aimed at current viewers are usually timed to give fans reminders, such as right before the show is set to restart after a break, or when something cool is coming. This felt like it was more about piquing interest in the show.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they put the time the show is supposed to air on promos unless they're promoting something that's going to run in the next week or two. I don't think the Ringer promo has the timeslot on it either.
I LOVE your new avatar Airbat! It's so cool
ReplyDeleteHummm.....Can I just say WOW!! This is soo cool!
ReplyDeleteEither way it's the first step in the right direction :) If it was a gift for the current fans or a promotion to try to reach new person...both are new and refreshing :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. :)
ReplyDeleteHow many new fans can they get at this point? If I were a new viewer, I'd prefer things that threaten the world rather than one dude having a breakdown.
ReplyDeleteConsidering there ARE Dean fans who would like to know there's something interesting to watch, it'd be nice to be shown that he's worth having a promo for and not a group one where he's an afterthought. Or I think people will be right in assuming the same thing as bevarshii.
ReplyDeleteI jumped on in season five (have since catched up) and I've read several posts from other people who started late. I like personal stories, and as I mentioned earlier, I'll be checking out Ringer even though I haven't heard anything about the end of the world on it.
ReplyDeleteExcellent compilation of clips from Unforgiven! The "souled" Sam voiceover was so sincere ... I want to cry again over how damaged Sam was and still is.
ReplyDeleteDaphe, I expect The CW to air a Dean-centric promo for their next major S6 compilation.
ReplyDeleteI agree too. I think this Sam -centric promo was kind of like the "jingle" promo with both boys - Dean in "Heavenly" greens and blues and underneath and upside down (then rightside up) Sam in red "Hell" tones.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, they shouldn't give out the message to fans who've been watching all along that "it's the Sam show, eat it or bug off" unless they really do want people to bug off.
ReplyDeletehopefully, they think that Dean is a successful part of SPN as well.
ReplyDeleteYawn.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they're finally running promos and showing Jared some love, but the clips of the poorly written Campbell clan/Sam sans soul story arc isn't exactly the best way to get me pumped up for the next season. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteGreat promo, thanks for sharing guys!
ReplyDeleteI found another promo I haven't seen before on the CW youtube channel:
http://www.youtube.com/user/CWtelevision#p/c/6A7D019D023E7717/1/UZtNFRPY4OA
I'm actually wondering if this might be the promax video winner for when CW hosted a video competition via promax's site it was something around winter hellatus. If I'm not mistaken there would have been plenty of time since the deadling for a winner to have been picked and their video to start airing.
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense.
ReplyDeleteOMG PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be right. promos... wow and not just 1 hour before the show air :D
ReplyDeleteOMG you are so making my DAY! plus a season is always better when you know if you got a next one or not after so thats good :D
ReplyDeleteOkay seriously it looks like its a fanmade video,
ReplyDeletePS: cause fanmandes vid are fucking awesome and cw sucks so WOW!
As far as I'm concerned anything that can help in bringing a wider audience to the show is welcome, whether it be Sam promos, Dean promos or Bones the dog from Falstaff promos!
ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with this thread but I was just thinking about the younger female characters who have been on the show such as Bela, the Rubys, Jo, and Lisa who have been the most long-lived so to say, and who were never really accepted by most fans.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think Cas should emerge from his God trip as a human in a new female vessel (sorry, but Destiel isn't going anywhere with Misha playing Cas), and they should introduce a brainy brunette who is somehow connected to the Supernatural world and who can defend herself for Sam (maybe a female Ash).
ReplyDeleteNo,I dont necessarily mean as a romantic pairing as I don' t think that's in the books.
ReplyDeleteAfter all neither Jo nor Bela could have been called a romantic interest and in Ruby and Lisa's case there were extenuating cicumstances that caused the boys to get involved with them.
As for Castiel, we willl have to wait and see what the writers decide to do with him before we can say anything
regards
Sorry. Because you specified younger, I assumed you meant a romantic interest. I think of Jo and Bela as potential Dean romantic interests who never progressed because of fan reaction.
ReplyDeleteI'd also like to see a wider network of friends, male or female.
ReplyDeleteNow there's a total shocker!!Knowing the level of fangirl hysteria around any suggestion of a potential love interest on the show, there's only one way a younger woman would be accepted - she'd have to be gay. And totally kickass.
Well, they could probably accept a Nun too, only joking!
ReplyDeleteWell, do you remember Nancy, the little virgin secretary in Jus in Bello, I thought Dean was so sweet and protective towards her so maybe we could solve the problem with a little teen sister wannabee!!!!
As I said, I quite liked Bela but I never really saw her as a romantic interest for Dean but more as someone whom he could pit his wits against and not come out on top 100% of the time!
ReplyDeleteJo could have been, character- wise but that would have left Sam out on a limb!
ReplyDeleteYour point about putting someone in danger is true.
ReplyDeleteThey've been betrayed and played by demons and angels, last of all the big one by Castiel, so it's only natural that they would come to depend more and more on each other and be diffident of others.
ReplyDeleteJo was brought on as a romantic interest for Dean but her character wasn't really written in a way that fans could swallow back in season 2. She came off as another younger sibling. I liked Bela and Pamela and of course Lisa myself. Perhaps the only younger female that has survived is Meg and people have mixed feelings about her too.
ReplyDeleteI think that any younger female that has the potential to become a love triangle is automatically met with suspicion.
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing, I don't want to watch a show about healthy, well-adjusted characters. I want them as messed up as it gets, I want the brothers to be soulmates and live for each other - that's what makes this series special, that it shows you that you CAN be happy and feel fulfilled with a different kind of a relationship in your life, that you don't have to imitate what society tells you is the norm.
ReplyDeleteThe almost painfully close "there's no room for anybody else" relationship between Sam and Dean's what makes Supernatural special, just like, for example, the close relationship between Leto and Ghanima was the be all and end all of the mini-series Children of Dune.
ReplyDeleteThey're not happy or fulfilled. It's not like I haven't heard of unusual family structures in this day and age but I don't also pretend that people are happy if they're not.
ReplyDeleteI think that you also have to accept that a great deal many people ARE going to think it's sick, self-destructive and of negative value especially when Sam ran away to have more than his family and Dean is in pain for losing the Braedens and Castiel. Especially when there's constant drinking, arguing, fighting and sniping. I don't romanticize that into being good and swoony.
It would be like idealizing that Austrian guy who kept his daughter imprisoned in the basement for 24 years, abused her, and fathered children with her. Google Fritzl.
I'm with you! I'm with you!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. A lot of science fiction and fantasy has a lot of non-traditional ideas about what family is but it doesn't keep the members from having many satisfactory relationships with other people.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't like is idealizing angst and isolation and death of anything/anyone that threatens it.
Hmm.
ReplyDeleteIt's been interesting to read the various opinions from Kati, at one endof the scale, who likes the show for it's intense brotherly relationship, to Skeptical Inquirer at the other end, who prefers an opening of the relationship to other emotional experiences.
ReplyDeleteI feel that all the viewpionts are valid and that's probably why the writers will never address the issue as they wouldn't be sure which road to go down, regards
Bye the way, Happy 4th July to all you USA-ers out there!
I don't really understand it but it's an interesting promo :)
ReplyDeleteYou can't be serious comparing Fritzl to the Winchesters? A man who was raping his daughter for years, holding her prisoner in his cellar, to Sam and Dean who want to stick together because they actually love each other deeply as a family. No wonder you don't like their relationship if you think these two are in any way similar O.o Wow. That's pretty sick.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the difference between everybody dying so you don't have anybody but each other and an actual prison?
ReplyDeleteI simply do not think it's lovely or beautiful that great people & friends like Rufus, Ellen, Jo, Ash, Pamela and Victor die and leave them without anybody to talk to.
ReplyDeletebut I agree for the rest :) I think that's another reason why it's so hard...or say impossible to please everyone.
ReplyDeleteIt is one of the strengths of the show and is what makes it so different from the majority of other shows which are all similar and for the most part predictable and ultimately boring.eg, cop shows, alien shows, mysterious end of the world shows etc. etc.which never really explore character interaction but just keep it all superficial.
ReplyDeleteIt does beg the question why they're still hunting now.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jilly.
ReplyDeleteis a hiatus time for supernatural any new spoiler or sneek peek is ok thanks for all the info cw can deliver or fans made.
ReplyDeleteHe he ;)
ReplyDeleteDon't know how I missed this! Thanks for posting.
ReplyDelete
