Sorry this is late guys. Lots of computer problems right now. Not sure when I will be able to post it. The winner of favorite 15th episode is French Mistake with 225 votes at 56% and in second is Tall Tales with 104 votes and 26%. Yesterday's poll is looking good for On the Head of a Pin with Dark Side of the Moon in second. Official results will be in tomorrow. Today we have a good mix of episodes. There's comedy, romantic angst, 2 alternate worlds, and religious indictment. Again, it's easy to pick my favorite in this poll, and again it won't be win. I predict Heart and Hell House will run the votes this round.
Hell House - Often a fan favorite, I find the prank wars funny and the idea of a tulpa very intriguing. However Ed and Harry are more annoying to me than funny and every time they are on my screen I want to fast forward.
Heart - Ah the tragic love story. Unfortunately this is not my thing and I find it really hard to believe that Sam could love Madison in such a short time. Still, my heart isn't completely stone yet so yes the final scene where the idiot girl plans to ruin Sam's life by making him kill her instead of having the guts to do it herself does get me too. A little bit.
It's a Terrible Life - I'm in the minority because I really like this episode. It was funny to see where Zachariah thought the brothers would be without hunting and Sam's office melt down is a real tension reliever for me when I'm tempted to try the same technique. I love how the brothers work together and although they use the ultra annoying Ghostfacers for research, they make a pretty good team even without family history behind them.
99 Problems - Who knew after the antiChrist we would get the Whore of Babylon too. I liked that there were lay people willing to fight demons in the NonPocalypse and Michael Shanks is always a favorite guest star for me. Father Gideon rocked as a man conflicted but Leah drove me nuts, as she was supposed to. Again, I am not a fan of the anti-Christianity vibe on Supernatural, but this one had its moments.
My Heart Will Go On - This had an out-there premise that worked well. I loved Balthazar's reasoning (take down Celine Dion) even if it wasn't true and who didn't love Bobby and Ellen as a couple. Makes me wish they were together in the "real" world. Jim Beaver and Samantha Ferris knocked this one out of the park. I also loved Fate as a type A enforcer. She reminded me of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde minus the humor and dog. However, the best thing about this episode was Dean and Sam walking through the park to One Way or Another, knowing that Fate is trying to kill them. Absolutely hilarious!

My computer will only work for 4 minutes at a time so my ranking is
ReplyDelete1. My Heart Will Go On
2. It's a Terrible Life
3. Hell House
4. Heart
5. 99 Problems
Don't forget to comment why you chose what you did.
This was a close one between My Heart Will Go On and It's a Terrible Life. But I ended up going with the same order as Dahne....
ReplyDelete1. My Heart Will Go On because it had Ellen back and her and Bobby were so cute together.
2. It's a Terrible Life because I find it really funny and interesting to see them as normal people. haha.
3. Hell House because I love all the pranks they pull.
4. Heart
5. 99 Problems
I love all these episodes, but my rank was:
ReplyDelete99 Problems
It's a Terrible Life
My Heart Will Go On
Hell House
Heart
I am probably in the minority here but I guess I have a H U G E soft spot for drunken Castiel. Him saying "On a bender" to Dean was just too damn funny to me. That whole scene made up for th more annoying moments of that episode to me. They are all wonderful though.
My Heart Will Go On edged out for me because of the walking scene and like you because Ellen and Bobby were beyond awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Heart!!! The werewolfs effects were bad, but the script is fantastic!!
ReplyDelete1. My Heart Will Go On
ReplyDelete2. Heart
3. Its a Terrible Life
4. 99 Promblems
5. Hell House
i actually liked the effect of werewolves i ;ike these werewolves better than them just turning into regular wolves
ReplyDeletei found this one the hardest one we've had since these came back because althoug i like all of these episodes, i don't love any of them, and find it hard to rank them
ReplyDeletein then end i ended up voting hell house because it ws hilarious and one of my fave parts about this show is its humour.
i'm trying to find an order for the rest of them but its very difficult
ok, here goes (although it is subject to change):
2. my heart will go one
3. its a terrible life
4. heart
5. its a terrible life
but i still like heart and its a terrible life, they are just slightly below the other 2. funny how this is the first poll where i've found it very hard to rank them, especially the bottom ones and none of these episodes are really near my top faves list at all. i like them all pretty equally
My heart will go on....and on, and on, because I laugh so much. The episode was unbelivebly awesome and Balthasar's lines were so enjoyable.
ReplyDelete1. My Heart Will Go On - Ellen & Bobby; Sam & Dean tempting Fate to 'One Way or Another; Fate was pretty bad a**; Ellen & Bobby (oh, I already said that) ;)
ReplyDelete*Con - trading the Impala for a Mustang = bad
2. It's a Terrible Life - 'Smith & Wesson' still makes me laugh; brothers working together even when they didn't know they were brothers; Sam's meltdown 'I quit'
*Con - references to Ghostfacers - I'm not a fan
3. Heart - werewolves are bada**; final scene still makes me cry; I liked Madison... until
*Con - Madison asked Sam to kill her, like he doesn't have enough to deal with
4. Hell House - loved the Tulpa idea; like that it was supposed to be taking place in Texas; loved the pranks the boys played on each other
*Con - Ghostfacers before they were Ghostfacers are still annoying
5. 99 Problems - Normal folk fightin demons; Preacher packin lead; Sam being a rebel
*Con - I wanted to kill Leah way before they knew she was the Whore of Babylon. She was irritating.
My Heart Will Go On gets an immediate last place for me because it was an episode which threw away rules the show had already established without sufficient reason for them being thrown away (not to mention Fate's unusually-timed appearance; if Atropos was going to try to keep things going as planned, and what Sam and Dean did in the Season 5 finale wasn't planned, why didn't she show up back in Season 5 if not the beginning of Season 6?).
ReplyDeleteBut just the fact that the writers had gone out of their way every time they've written a time travel episode for the show to show that the brothers time traveling has always fulfilled the past, never changed it (and they stuck with that idea in Frontierland just an episode later), and then throw that rule out the window for this episode (with the only explanation for this universe-altering/rule-breaking being that the brothers had managed to change things by sealing away Lucifer) always left a bad taste in my mouth.
My number one is close between Hell House and It's a Terrible Life (though I voted for the former), with Heart and 99 Problems being a tier lower, and, as already stated, MHWGO much lower than those.
I didnt even think of the walking scene... But yeah that definitely makes me positive that I made the right choice because that scene was great!
ReplyDeleteOh yes I loved drunk Cas in that episode!
ReplyDelete1. Hell House: The brothers' prank war and the way the lighthearted attitude of the brothers was contrasted with the dark premise of the episode. I also found the Tulpa to be an interesting concept ("Kind of makes you wonder. Of all the things we've hunted, how many exist just because people believed in them?") I found the Ghostfacers really annoying though.
ReplyDelete2. My Heart Will Go On: Bobby and Ellen together and the walking scene. On the downside, no Impala.
3. It's A Terrible Life: The brothers teaming up against evil like they always do even if they don't remember it.
4. Heart: The last scene where Sam and Dean cry while deciding whether or not Sam should himself kill Madison was the highlight of the episode.
5. 99 Problems: The whore is a whore is a whore. 'Nuff said.
Hell House holds a special place in my heart because it was the first episode I had ever watched of Supernatural and is what made me start watching the rest of the show
ReplyDeleteits hard for me to rank these... but here i go...
ReplyDelete1. It's a Terrible Life
2. My Heart Will Go On
3. 99 Problems
4. Hell House
5. Heart
I think the only reason that MHWGO isn't in first is because i had the unfortunate displeasure of missing most of season 6 (didn't have cable or internet until mid season and couldn't get anywhere to watch... was ready to pull my hair out by the time i got to start watching again!!!) Therefore by the time i saw this episode, i was unaware of who Balthazar was and how he joined the Brothers... so i didn't really give the episode the attention it deserved (a matter i plan to rectify once the season comes out... i'm planning on a marathon of seasons 1-6 as soon as i have it in my hands!!) Terrible Life won out because i loved the idea of Dean being the complete opposite (eating healthy, listening to talk radio??) and the fact that they worked together but didn't even know each other in that life provided some very interesting challenges. As for 99 Problems, drunken Castiel was so much funnier to me than the 'Hell Hounds' were in this incarnation (i actually prefer them as the GhostFacers in the later episodes... they are funnier later to me). Im sure im in the minority in choosing Heart last, however my reasoning is similar to Dahne's... i just can't believe that Sam 'truly loved' Madison so quickly... im not saying that he didn't have feelings for her, but (and this i think is what bothered me most about this episode, or more about a reference to this episode) when Chuck's manager or publisher (the chick that grills them to see if they really are fans of 'her boys' in TMatEoTB) when she says that Madison was the first girl he 'truly loved since Jessica'... i don't know but its almost like that is an insult to the memory of Jessica... i mean... he dated Jessica for how long... and he only knew Madison for a couple of days... like he could find someone to love that deeply, that quickly... i don't know... that comment just went against my grain a tad... so that's why Heart is last... but its not that far behind the others...
My Heart Will Go On
ReplyDelete1.My Heart Will Go On.It had Ellen and Bobby together,Balthazar and I really liked Fate. The walking scene was of course awesome and personally I also loved the whole conversation between Cas and Fate (and Balthazar's "Awkward")!
ReplyDelete2.99 Problems.Just for the voicemail..!It was a really good episode for me.Sam trying to keep Dean from giving up was something new and I enjoyed it.And Cas drunk definitely had his moments!
3.It's a terrible life.Personally,I loved when Zachariah was around. And the boys teaming up despite everything was really great.
4.Heart.I was a good episode. It's so low on my list for two reasons.First,I haven't watched it in ages. And second, and I'm not saying it wasn't heartbreaking,I never got over the fact that Sam loved Madison after knowing her for one day or something..
5.Hell House. The prank war was great. But unfortunately, for me(and I know I'm in the vast minority)the Ghostfacers are the only thing that shouldn't have existed in the show..
i had to vote season 2 Heart just for the final scene. Its one of those scenes you never forget
ReplyDeleteBwahahahaha! Dahne, never has a phrase better proven that an episode is not your thing than this, from your description of Heart, "the idiot girl plans to ruin Sam's life by making him kill her instead" Hysterical. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSappy Winchester boys are one of my things. (I have a lot of things.) Anyway, here's my list...
It's A Terrible Life -- It wasn't the 'how to get Dean back on the roller coaster' episode I was
expecting. (I think the typical approach would have caused a tilt on my Emote-o-meter.)
It was hilarious and had a good ghost that did something employers across America
wish they could accomplish.
My Heart Will Go On -- I love me a Bobby ep and Bobby and Ellen were an awesome couple. Can
Castiel rewrite the world next season. He can keep everything the same except Ellen
and Bobby are married. However, I hated the casting of Fate. I did not buy the bun
and suit. She just couldn't get me there. I loved the character but the actress just
didn't work for me. (Anyone else see Alone in the Dark?)
Heart -- Liked this one...and a final scene that really got me. Dang if Jensen Ackles ain't a mighty
fine actor.
Hell House/99 Problems - I can't pick on over the other. :-)
Just out of curiosity (and I hope I don't get in trouble for an aside.. But is there a movie or show that's done great werewolf design? I am hard pressed to say that any show or movie has nailed it for me.
ReplyDeleteDoctor Who did a VERY realistic take on the werewolf and the guy/beast actually looked menacing and grisly enough :)
ReplyDeleteTo be exact, the Episode titled "Tooth and Claw"
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wavZNqZwg40
this is a close one for me between 99 problems and my heart will go on... but drunk cas won me over :)
ReplyDeleteI like all of these eps, but I chose MHWGO. It was funny, tragic, developed the season arc, had 'old school' Dean and Sam, and who didn't love Bobby and Ellen as a couple? I also loved Heart then 99 problems, but they are all great.
ReplyDeleteFinally got Spoiler to load - I've only been trying for 6 hours - good thing I share the Winchester trait of never giving up :)
ReplyDeleteAnd wonders will never cease: I find myself with the same order as you for the 2nd poll running Dahne.
It was close though. It's a Terrible Life was very cool.
I loathe the Ghostfacers so Hell House will never be at the top of my list - but I thought the tulpa was a great MoTW.
I agree with you that it seems impossible for Sam to fall in love with Madison in such a short space of time, although I do think maybe part of his anguish was still about losing Jess. And the final scene was so well acted by both Jared & Jensen.
I thought it was cool the way all those civilians banded together in 99 Problems - the holy water spray was inspired. But like you, Leah irritated me.
My Heart Will Go On was all kinds of awesome - I just loved the whole episode.
My favorite was 99 Problems, It was awesome with the apocalyptic vibe, I just love that, besides, Michael Shanks.
ReplyDelete1.99 Problems
2.My Heart Will Go On
3.It's a Terrible Life
4. Heart
5. Hell House
I agree with you on the Ghostfacers thing although in HH they weren't the Ghostfacers yet and were okay-ish I suppose...why did they have to do more episodes about them plus the webisodes I will never know...
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to think that while the Ghostfacers are more of the love them or despise them variety, (and I tend to be in those who can't stand them) and admittedly the two 'main' Ghostfacers were first featured in Hell House--There actually was NO Ghostfacers in S1...
ReplyDeleteHow newer seasons influence the perception of earlier seasons is very interesting and fascinating
voted for my heart will go on.
ReplyDeleteVoted for 99 Problems, but My Heart will go on is a close second.
ReplyDeleteIt was hard to choose between My heart will go on and It`s a terrible life, but Bobby and Ellen together was just so perfect.
ReplyDelete1. My Heart Will Go On
2. It's a Terrible Life ( It really had some funny moments and I loved how the brothers worked together, even so they didn`t know who they were ;) )
3. Hell House ( The pranks were so awesome ^^ )
4. 99 Problems ( Was a solid episode for me, but nothing special)
5. Heart ( I just couldn`t stand Madison)
my vote went to my heart will go on
ReplyDeleteHEART/HELL HOUSE/ITS A TERRIBLE LIFE
ReplyDelete3 of my favourite episodes ever. I went with Heart because it never fails to move me, it is simply a beautiful episode.
99 and My Heart were both episodes that I didnt enjoy all that much.
1-HEART-Loved this episode, it was sweet and sexy and full of great brotherly moments and a it was truly a heartbreaking story
2-HELL HOUSE-I never stop laughing at this episode, love the Ghostfacers before they became the Ghostfacers, the brothers pranking each other, it has a very clever MOTW story and Sam in a towel which I never stop drooling over. Its just the brothers being brothers before everything quite literally went to hell.
3-ITS A TERRIBLE LIFE-I really liked this episode one of my favourite from season 4, it showed how much the boys are in tune with other despite being miles apart emotionally. Tensions were high and felt like their relationship or lack of one was dragging everything down so it was nice to see them working together. A very clever peice of writing not to mention we first encounter the brilliant Kurt Fuller as Zach.
4-99-OK had some good moments really liked the all the Sam scenes in the episode, but Dean's inevitable 'giving up' was starting to drag, I knew by the end of the end of the episode he would be well on his way to saying YES to Michael I really didnt need another episode of his anger/self pity/'we're all going to die anyway' face pulling. The MOTW was quite interesting even though the entire episode was quite predictable other than that stupid WTF moment right at the end. Cas was a total prat during this episode but made up for it in the next.
5-MY HEART WILL GO ON-like many season 6 episodes it failed to live up to the hype, it was pretty useless and boring other than the stuff about Cas and the souls again just highlighting that he couldn't be trusted any more. Bathazar was interesting to have back as always, didn't care for the Ellen and Bobby stuff and cant even remember what Sam and Dean even did in the episode.
Oh,boy...Next is The Monster At The End Of The Book vs Point Of No Return vs Frontierland.... :(
ReplyDeleteWe leave in a cruel world!
It's a terrible life LOVED LOVEC LOVED IT!
ReplyDelete! I cant!!! NOOOOOO
ReplyDeleteAgain, same there.
ReplyDelete1. My Heart will Go On was amazing. I loved so that Ellena was back. I always wanted her to be with Bobby.
2. It's a Terrible Life, because It was funny to see them like that.
3. Hell House, because I kinda like Ed and Harry.
4. Heart, because It was heartbreaking to see Sam like that, but I don't think he could fall in love with her in such a short time.
5. 99 Problems it was good, but not my favourite.
Voted for Heart. So sad. I don't think anyone was implying that Sam "loved" Madison the way he loved Jess, or the way someone would love someone they've been with for a long time, but he still developed deep feeling for her, and it was so sad that he couldn't save her. I don't think it's any less believable than Dean developing strong feelings for Lisa and Ben after The Kids Are Alright.
ReplyDeleteThe rest were good episodes, but none stand out as great to me.
Heart
ReplyDeleteThis one was really hard too. I love Hell House b/c it was 1 of the first truly comedic episodes, I love Heart b/c of the emotional stuff Sam had to deal with (and the sex scene wasn't too bad to watch either lol), Its A Terrible Life was just amazing, and My Heart Will Go On is one of my favorites of the sixth season. That being said, I went with Its A Terrible Life, but if I could have, I would have voted for My Heart Will Go On too
ReplyDeleteI swear it gets harder and harder to choose as each season progresses.
ReplyDeleteFirst choice .....It's a Terrible Life.
ReplyDeleteWhile I am not a fan of meta, I am an enthusiast of Alternate Universes and I loved this episode.
It was nice to see Sam and Dean in a different environment and how they were inevitably drawn to each other and to their essence as hunters.
Then Dean was so cute in his suit and Sam in his yellow get-up and of course we are introduced to Zachariah who is one of the best bad guys in rthe whole series, for me. ( have you done a poll on the best villains previously, if not it could be interesting )
Second ...99 problems.
It had lots of interesting tit-bits and piqued my curiosity about Dean being able to kill the baddie, surprising everyone, and thus, to all purposes, being seen as a "weapon of heaven".
I also like to see the boys in battle mode and we got a good bit of demon fighting thrown in.
Third......... the beautifully poignant Heart
It had lots of lighthearted moments too, like the "rock, paper and scissors" and Sam becoming increasingly uncomfortable while Madison is folding her items of washing.
I'm convinced, however, that no-one could have kept from spilling a tear at the final scenes of the episode.
Fourth.......Hell House was all right.
It sort of grew on me the second time around but only for the brotherly pranking.
omg, that is gonna be a toughie
ReplyDeletei have no idea what i'm gonna go with, luckily i still have a few ours to think about it
i can't even predict who would win
1 MY HEART WILL GO ON -- Fantastic episode! One of my favorites from season six. Balthazar was on his A game in this one ("Oh. Awkward!") and the reveal at the end was sad. Bobby and Ellen were incredible!
ReplyDelete2 HEART -- What an utterly depressing episode. Emmanuel Vaughier is always someone I look forward to on my tv but this was truly tragic. The end gets me all depressed every time.
3 99 PROBLEMS -- I love this episode if only for one thing: "THE WHORE!" Cas was hilarious in this episode as usual, and the Whore of Babylon was pretty great.
4 HELL HOUSE -- The tulpa was a great monster of the week (We need more monsters that are that out-there in season 7!) and while the ghostfacers are usually annoying as hell, seeing Sam and Dean constantly have to shake them off was really funny to me.
5 IT'S A TERRIBLE LIFE -- I really like this episode. A LOT. I just like the others more. The office madness felt all too real and familiar, and the ghost that made people work themselves to death was both pleasantly gory and helped Sam and Dean get through the mindf*ck Zachariah placed on their brains.
For me:
ReplyDeleteMy Heart Will GO On
Heart
Hell House
It's a Terrible Life
99 Problems
I think Ellen is the character I've grown to love most after her death. I thought she was good before. At and after death, she rocks my world.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have an issue with the werewolves but all monsters could definitely be better on Supernatural if they could get a bigger budget. I love how creative they are with what they have but sometimes it would be nice to have a big budget effect that makes everything pop.
ReplyDeleteBalthazar really did steal the show in this episode. Love his Celine Dion quip. I was sorry to see him go.
ReplyDeleteYour pros and cons are the exact same as mine. Leah did need to die well before the end of the episode and that Mustang was just wrong. I'm sure it would have been fine on another series but Supernatural without the Impala was the strangest thing in an odd world.
ReplyDeleteSorry. I just woke up so I'm not quite sure I'm following yet. Are you saying that you don't like My Heart Will Go On because it changed the past when in other time travel episodes they did not change the past? I agree with you about Fate coming in at such a late date. The brothers have been messing with things way sooner than that.
ReplyDeleteI like the inherent fun of Hell House too. The brothers were on a case, yes, but there wasn't the shadow of imminent doom everywhere they went. At that time, we expected the brothers to win over evil instead of being shocked when they do. It was a simpler time with unqualified wins and monsters they had a prayer against. I really hope that Supernatural gets back to this overall tone.
ReplyDeleteThe episode that hooks you is always special. I'm glad that you saw an episode that made you want to keep watching. Bonus - because it was early in the show's history so the overall mytharc wasn't so extended.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I feel for you. Not sure how I would do without being able to see Supernatural as it came out. I forgot that reference to Heart in MatEotB, mostly because I try to block out everything that happened in that episode, but yes, it does seem insulting to Jessica.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say that the Ghostfacers were the ONLY thing that should never have been on Supernatural, but I could happily live without them if they hadn't. They bug me.
ReplyDeleteBest thing about pre-Ghostfacers was when they were trying to figure out how to react with the "What Would Buffy Do?" philosophy. Buffy would shut them in a locked room while she dealt with the problem.
ReplyDeleteIt is hardest for me to rank also when I don't have 1-2 episodes that I either love or hate. When things hover in the good to great category I have trouble. I'm trying to redo my overall episode ranking list for the winter hiatus and I did well on the top and bottom 10 but the middle is giving me fits.
ReplyDeleteI would agree. Any time people talk about Heart, it's the ending scene they bring up. For me Heart would probably be forgettable in that werewolves aren't my thing and I don't buy the instant love thing. However, the final 3 minutes make Heart stand out in a way that other MotW episodes sometimes don't. It's not the only time a monster has asked the Winchesters to kill them but it was the one the writers took great care to build up beforehand.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Glad I made you laugh. I'm the opposite on angst, of course, but I think one of the reasons why I loved It's a Terrible Life so much is just that. After the emotional overload of On the Head of a Pin, I was afraid we would spend the entire episode with Dean depressed and even more break down of the brother relationship. To have them not know who they were gave them and us a break from the desolation, got the brothers working together finally, and provided a lighter feel the season definitely needed at that point. The whole episode until the end was such a relief to me.
ReplyDelete1. My Heart Will Go On
ReplyDelete2. Heart
3. It's a Terrible Life
4. Hell House
5. 99 Problems
Heart, It's a terrible life, my heart will go on, hell house, 99 problems
ReplyDeleteFor some reason 99 problems annoyed me
MHWGO did have a great balance between the funny and the dramatic. Very few things touched me as much in season 6 as Bobby realizing that if they changed destiny, he would not have Ellen and Jo still in his life. When Bobby and Ellen are talking at the table, my heart broke. Great acting all around.
ReplyDeleteThat is true :) What really hooked me was the prank wars between the boys-- I thought that it was an awesome display of brotherly interaction and you clearly can see that they loved each other and each brother loved getting the one up on the other. It was just pure fun with no angst whatsoever. I miss that time now...I do like the angst but I wish that they could have that again...it would be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI really do love S1's mytharc because it was relatively simple back then-- basically find Dad. In S2 onwards it just became so complex...
I've been having issues with Spoiler, Chrome, and my computer as a whole. Irksome! Kind of amazing that we voted the same way twice in a row though.
ReplyDeleteI agree that some of Sam's trauma in Heart was lingering grief over Jessica, but I think the real problem is that Madison was another person he couldn't save. Ever since finding out John's lovely verbal bomb to Dean, Sam has been on a crusade to save people as penance for/to balance out the demon blood in him. The revelation itself was devastating to Sam but then to not be able to help people in trouble just adds to the Winchester guilt. I think his helplessness in this situation coupled with feeling like a demon pawn intensified his feelings.
Ha! Michael Shanks makes everything better. I didn't particularly like his character Victor in Burn Notice so I kept on saying, but it's Michael Shanks to keep the love up.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!! :) I actually prefer pre-Ghostfacers since they were adorable and couldn't be taken seriously. Ghostfacers just laid it on so thick that it was just annoying. The one Ghostfacer moment I "like" is in 4x17 with the one clip, where they call the Winchesters douches (I can't think of the actual insult at the moment) and the boys don't even realize that it is them that they are insulting...cracks me up just thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteFor me Ghostfacers is and always will be Ed and Harry, no matter who else they surround themselves with. So for me, it is Ghostfacers in season 1 even if they hadn't named themselves that yet. Kind of like how Clark Kent is always Superman to me even if he hasn't started flying and wearing a cape yet.
ReplyDeleteIt's a Terrible Life showed us that Dean and Sam are always Dean and Sam even if they don't know it. They are drawn to the brotherly bond between them even when they aren't brothers. That encouraged me more than anything else since in the "real" world it was that bond that was almost completely torn apart. To see them working together as strangers gave me hope that they could eventually work together as brothers.
ReplyDeleteIs it cruel to say that I will enjoy people choosing in the next one because 2 of those you mentioned I will never ever vote for. Next round is fairly easy for me.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the finales to go against each other. I hope people comment a lot about them because it should be pretty interesting to see which ones get the final vote.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed My Heart Will Go On is getting so much loved today. Personally I thought it was fantastic but I was sure people would vote for the sentimental Heart instead. Season 6 could have 3 winners by the time this contest is over. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteYES,that's cruel... ; )
ReplyDeleteBut I think I know what you'll vote..Well,actually I'm certain about one episode you won't vote for and I'm pretty sure about the other..!We'll see..
We've done favorite one-shot villain and favorite angel, but I'm not sure if we ever did favorite villain as a whole. Sounds like a poll for after these contests. :-)
ReplyDelete(Ducks head and raises hand) I didn't cry in Heart. But then again, I rarely cry in TV or movies.
More difficult choices:
ReplyDelete1.99 Problems- The best part when Dean does what only a 'servant of Heaven' can do, an entire town of people hunting (what they think are) demons.
2.My Heart Will Go On-Loved Bobby & Ellen married, I adore Balthazar, first sign of something different with Cas.
3.Heart- Sam's girlfriend asks him to kill her, Dean wanting to do it so Sam wouldn't feel guilty the rest of his life, and Sam killing her to save her.
4.It's A Terrible Life- I always like the 'out of the normal' epis and it was great to see Dean & Sam 'find each other' in spite of not remembering their real lives.
5.Hell House- While there were some funny moments, I just don't care for the Ghostfacers very much at all. (No hate replies please!!) lol
I'm hoping we see Fate again in season 7, possibly against MegaloCas, but I agree we need more strong female characters and even more personified concepts would be cool. After all Death and Fate are two of my favorites. But I mostly agree that I want to see unique monsters next season. There are so many to choose from and so many have interesting back story. Plus, monsters are something the brothers can fight on their own.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I felt in love with her character after death too. I still don't really like Jo, I love Alona, but I kinda don't like Jo.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you are in the majority about Ghostfacers - at least on this site. :-) No hate here. Only differing opinions. It's the best thing about SpoilerTV.
ReplyDeleteI liked Jo a whole lot better when I knew she was dying. Sounds terrible I know, but I maintain that the writers did a poor job with the Jo character. The Jo in my head is much stronger and less childlike than the writers portrayed.
ReplyDeleteI voted for "My Heart Will Go On." If I was in Balty's shoes I'm not sure I wouldn't do the same. As soon as I finished watching the episode I immediately hoped Fate would make some recurring appearances. Great character. Bobby & Ellen were a nice bonus.
ReplyDelete"Heart" was a close second.
Heart was so sad.
ReplyDeleteit's the one that stands out the most to me so it gets my vote :)
I get nostalgic about season 1. Things were fairly uncomplicated, the monsters were all new, and the brothers had FUN. Like you, I miss the aspect of cool brothers having fun kicking supernatural butt. I understand the idea of constantly raising the stakes but it was such a steep escalation that the idea of topping the scale of what they've already tackled is ridiculous. I don't think they need to keep escalating the stakes. Instead, they should create a mytharc that lasts a few seasons and punctuate it with lots of standalones filled with unique monsters and brothers that know they are important, have shed the massive guilt that weighs them down, and have fun doing the job they do best.
ReplyDeleteKurt Fuller was brilliant as a malicious, petty bureaucrat. You could see him being that boss that interrupts your Christmas to tell you you're fired with a big smile on his face. He made Zachariah so easy to hate that now whenever I see him in anything else my stomach automatically twists.
ReplyDeleteMy Heart Will Go On was an amazing episode because seriously, if I was an Angel I would have gone back and un-sinked the Titanic because the movie's ending sucked. Oh how I miss Balthazar now.. Fate was a great character too!
ReplyDeleteThe other episodes had their good and bad points.. Heart had a very emotionally moving ending, I remember I cried there. 99 problems was an action packed episode but it's end wasn't good for me cause I thought Dean would actually say yes to Michael which he thankfully didn't in the end but still. It's a Terrible Life had it's funny moments and I have to say Dean looked hot in that 'corporate guy' thing :P Hell House was kind of annoying, cause I found Ghost Facers annoying, except of course the time when they helped Winchesters with the ghost problem in It's a Terrible Life.
Yeah, in both "In The Beginning" and "The Song Remains The Same" (and "Frontierland") they showed that it's impossible for you to be able to change the past by time traveling. The most you can do is actually fulfill the events of the past (i.e., Dean convincing John to buy the Impala since he wouldn't have if Dean hadn't been there to say something, or Mary remembering enough about her encounter with Anna, Uriel, and Michael to start telling her sons, "Angels are watching over you," which wouldn't have happened if she had never met an angel since most hunters don't believe in angels, or the Colt being used to kill a Phoenix as recorded in that diary which wouldn't have happened if Sam hadn't gotten the gun to Dean).
ReplyDeleteTime travel in Supernatural is linear. A person who time travels had always time traveled to that point in the past before they were even born. Sam even mentions this in "My Heart Will Go On". Castiel and Balthazar rationalize the new rule that time can now be changed by saying that there are no more rules, and Atropos attributes this to the battle of Armageddon being averted.
It made no sense and it threw away the old rules of the universe for the sake of a story that already threw out the heaven's weapons story line in favor of the power of souls story line. And to make things worse, they completely ignored it and went back to the old rules one episode later with "Frontierland".
1. It's a Terrible Life This is one my favorite episodes ever.
ReplyDelete2. My Heart Will Go On It was hard to decide which I like best. It's actually between the top two.
3. 99 Problems Dean holding a beer bottle glued to his hand, saying "You didn't." Sam's crazy laugh, holding up the crazy glue, and almost giggling, "I did." That made it for me.
4. Heart Mainly for the boys' acting in it. Some parts of the story were unbelievable. Sam couldn't possibly rebound that fast, could he? You don't fall in love in a a day.
5. 99 Problems My Question on this one was When did Dean become God's man? How else could he have killed her?
"Sam couldn't possibly rebound that fast, could he? You don't fall in love in a a day."Not to nitpick, but it had been about a year and a half since Jess died, and Sam and Madison had known each other for three days (first night she turned and slipped out, second night she didn't turn, third night she turned and killed someone). No one said the word love, but I could imagine that the three very intense days with someone you really like, and who you've slept with, could make you sad if you had to kill them.
ReplyDeleteyup, when there's no specific episode that stands out as great or bad, it becomes impossible, and episode 17 is definately one of those times
ReplyDeletethats a good idea, i'm gonna try and rank all the episodes. i know it will end in me tearing my hair out trying to choose a top 10 or even 20 and then somehow manage to rank the middle ones
Ha! We recently had a fun conversation about fried food in the South. Asides are perfect during hiatus so go off on any tangent you want.
ReplyDeleteMary's mind wipe bothers me more than anything in MHWGO. That retcon did no one any favors and messed with the consistency of the show on the highest level.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to SpoilerTV, Cheryl. Thanks for sharing your ranking with us. I find that the more I watch 99 Problems the more it annoys me. Also the more I like Gideon. Not sure why that is.
ReplyDeleteI liked Titanic enough to see it multiple times so I'm not into destroying Celine's song. Now if Balty would wipe out that hideous Friday song from Rebecca Black, I'll start looking for ways to resurrect him myself.
ReplyDeleteHi Momina. Welcome to SpoilerTV. Thanks for explaining why you voted as you did. It makes for better conversation on the site and helps pass the time between seasons.
ReplyDeleteI am shocked by how many people liked It's a Terrible Life. I loved it, but when it first came out people were almost universally panning it. I remember trying to defend it to its detractors. I'm delighted that so many people here enjoyed it like I did.
ReplyDeletethanks for the link. I agree. great werewolf design.
ReplyDeleteYeah that makes sense *nods* for me the whole Ghostfacers concept is annoying so I prefer to think of it as pre-ghostfacers since they were adorable back in S1...S3 plus not so much...just really annoying :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. Not only was it a steep escalation but then it was just angst angst angst with little reprieve. At least that is what it felt to me.
ReplyDeleteThe stakes were so high that it really made everything so unbelievable and out of touch with reality. I know that the show is called Supernatural for a reason but in the first three seasons maybe even the fourth, it felt more grounded. There was angst tons of it but I could relate because the boys were at the center. With the angels and Lucifer and Michael it just became way too much especially the whole vessel thing which for me felt very pigeonholed.
I was overall disappointed with S6 mainly because of the multiple storylines since I felt that they couldn't make up their minds what storyline to go with.
I do agree with creating a mytharc that can last a few more seasons with lots of standalones and brothers who have fun doing what they do best.
.
Even although one knows that everything on screen is just make-believe sometimes your emotions get caught up in the story and go off on their own!
ReplyDeleteI think your' re trying to deny a chick- flick moment here!! ( only kidding!!! only joking!!!! )
I feel the show got too big for itself with the inclusion of the angels. In trying to go more and more epic, they grounded the brothers story and largely made is about what happened to them and not about what they were doing. With that came the angst overload you mentioned, more guilt than the earth has water, and a serious lack of joy. I liked season 6 because it somewhat restored at least the brothers, but I agree it could have used a narrower focus.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm not denying that TV can make me emotional. I bawled like a baby the first time I saw Becoming 2 on Buffy. Still to this day, I don't make it through that episode without tearing up. But I didn't cry in Heart. My throat may have tickled and my heart definitely hurt for them but there were no tears. In season 2 the closest I got to tears was All Hell Breaks Loose when Dean is crying over Sam's dead body. Now that was a scene that really got to me emotionally.
ReplyDeleteYes, that whole ep/finale was so heartbreaking and perfect.
ReplyDeleteHowever the message that Sam gets from Dean in Lucifer Rising hurts me every time I hear it .
Sam was perhaps waiting for a word of concern, forgiveness or love from his brother and instead he has to listen to Dean's voice telling him what a monster he is and helping even more to push him over the edge.
Even although ir wasn't true you could just see Sam crumbling.
I always fast forward that scene when I watch the Ep.
By the way if yyou do the villain vote, some one beginning with R will be at the top of my list! regards
1. Heart - It makes me cry every time.
ReplyDelete2. Hell House - So funny! I love this episode!
3. It's a Terrible Life - a very close 3rd, one of my favorite episodes of the season.
4. My Heart Will Go On
5. 99 Problems
I really agree with all of this.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it had been over a year and a half since Jess died. Sam rebounded real quick with Sarah, but she different from Jess. Very much so. Three days, yeah. It was. The pain Sam felt, and the tears Dean let fall for his brother was for way more than three very intense days with someone you really liked and slept with. It felt like more by the way they both responded. I still think Madison should not have asked that of him.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I agree. It's one of the reasons why I'm feeling hesitant about S7 especially with all the promises being made that it will go back to being about the boys, etc. In the past, things have been said/promised and what actually happened was something different
