The favorite 14th episode poll was much closer than I expected. The winner was Born Under a Bad Sign with 45% of the votes (151 votes total). With 34% and 112 votes, My Bloody Valentine came in second. Currently for the 15th episode, The French Mistake is winning. It's nice to see season 6 getting some love too. Today, we start the 16th episodes where I will once again NOT be voting with the majority. Let's just say On the Head of a Pin is the odds-on Vegas favorite here with a likely Dark Side of the Moon runner up. Reminder - due to its shortened season, we will run the last 2 episodes of season 3 against the last two episodes of the other seasons. Without further ado, comments make hiatus bearable and here are your choices.
Shadow - This episode gave us Meg, who we knew was a demon, and John, who unexpectedly showed up. Finally. But more importantly, it gave us the really cool shadow monsters (daevas). I liked this season 1 episode because the pace moved well, there was humor ("upstairs brain"), and I liked Meg better when she stopped pretending and embraced her inner skank. Yes it was wildly overacted but it was campy fun.
Roadkill - Roadkill has the benefit of completely surprising me and great guest acting. I loved how it revealed Molly to be the ghost and portrayed Jonah as a good man whose ghost was twisted by anger and regret. That being said, I find this one more forgettable than most.
On the Head of a Pin - This is an excellent episode that I am not voting for. It has Dean torturing Alastair and then Alastair giving it right back. There is angel betrayal and the biggest shock of the season after learning Sam was addicted to demon blood. But with the shock of the first seal reveal, we also get one of the most angsty episodes in Supernatural history. I don't enjoy seeing the brothers broken this much and it establishes a 3 year pattern of them losing more than they win. That is my biggest issue with Supernatural right now and this episode is far too depressing for me to truly enjoy it.
Dark Side of the Moon - Again with the angst overload. I didn't like this episode, but it did have its moments. The firework scene may have more fanwork created from it than anything but the hugs. It was awesome! We got the return of Ash, whom many people who aren't me really missed, and Pamela, who was as enjoyable as ever. We learned that John sucked before the fire, watched the return of Evil Mommy Mary, and were thrown into a religious episode I'm surprised people didn't protest. Mostly though, we got disillusioned Cas and Dean and a trashed amulet. While it had tremendous meaning in that scene, I want the amulet back!
And Then There Were None - Grandpa Creepy and the Campbell Soup Army got ganked! Now that's how you throw a party. Unfortunately Rufus died too and that sucked out loud. We had some Christian bashing again but then moved to the herpes monster and things rocked from that point on. Highlights: FBI Bobby, Bobby-Rufus back story, "Welcome to next time!". Bobby-GC verbal smackdown, herpes ear check - BWAH, and Rufus' funeral. This episode had humor, drama, and most importantly kept me on the edge of my seat through every commercial. It's up there in the most surprises Hall of Fame and Dean's forgiveness speech was absolutely needed. All in all, an A+ episode for me. One of the best of season 6.

The poll is super easy for me today.
ReplyDelete1. And Then There Were None
2. On the Head of a Pin
3. Shadow
4. Dark Side of the Moon
5. Roadkill
Shadow is definitely on the top of my list
ReplyDelete1. Darkside of the Moon
ReplyDelete2. Shadow
3. And then there where none
4. On the head of a pin
5. Roadkill
This one is a tough choice.
ReplyDeleteEeewwww I just got the John Winchester badge - must hurry to get to the next level. Sorry folks but I foresee a few extra comments from me on this poll. :P
ReplyDeleteFor once you and I are in complete agreement Dahne. Yes, I know we do agree on a surprising number of things, but not so much on our favorite episodes. Except for this one. :)
On The Head of a Pin is my very close second. Alastair was completely awesome, and I'm not as anti-angst as you are so it didn't lose points for that. And pre S6 it would've got my vote.
But yeah And Then There Were None totally rocked!! Can't fault it anywhere. This was easy for once. :)
Dark Side of the Moon for me, even though I cried at the end when Dean pitched the amulet and I realized how far apart Sam and Dean had grown.
ReplyDeleteSame here.
ReplyDeleteVoted for Roadkill due to me liking Tricia Helfer and I was shocked by the twist which made it stand out to me. Dark Side of the Moon had a lot of cool scenes but the whole emo-Dean thing annoyed me. On the Head of a Pin the first time I saw it I found it forgettable, wasn't until I rewatched it that I realized how it was cool but still didn't stick out to me right away for me.
ReplyDeleteShadow is in my top season 1 episodes list. While I think Nicki Aycox hammed Meg up way too much, she was an awesome character. Hey, she's the only female that has made it through all 6 seasons so that is saying something right there.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling this poll's gonna be close. I don't know about this one- all these episodes had at least one moment that stood out to me. hm.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the badge and it does get better, just keep going. It is rare when we vote the same way, so And Then There Were None must have been an awesome episode. It's high on my overall list too, not only season 6.
ReplyDeleteThat was the most heartbreaking scene for me in all of season 5. It twisted my gut far more than Swan Song did. What I love most about it is that no words were spoken. Dean's back was to Sam, and it still said volumes about the brother relationship and the show. For one piece of jewelry to say so much in such a short time is a testament to the writers of this show. That scene was pure brilliance - tears and all.
ReplyDeleteI remember all the buzz that surrounded the episode because Tricia Helfer was guest starring right off her BSG acclaim. I think she was one of the better guest stars on the show. In the wrong hands, Molly would be far less sympathetic so I loved how she played it.
ReplyDeleteHands down no contest On The Head Of A Pin is in my top 3 episodes of all time. I've probably seen it as many times as Monster At the End of This Book both of which is in the dozens of times. The very close runner up would be Dark Side of the Moon which also makes it into my top 10 list. What can I say I like the dark, angsty, dark episodes. The more broken the brothers the more enjoyment I have. My next would probably be And then There Were None, then Shadow, then Roadkill which was very good for a one off episode but just doesn't have the part to play in the plot like all these other 16th episodes do.
ReplyDeleteNever thought of it this way, but yes Roadkill is the only standalone in the bunch. I wonder what that does to the voting. Now I'm going to have to look at the past episodes to find out how episodes rank - standalone vs. mytharc.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love most about Supernatural is that there is something for everyone. I'm glad you like the deeply emoangsty ones. My preference is high action with lots of snarkiness thrown in.
Just wait until the season finale poll. I have a feeling people are going to be cursing at me in that one. :-)
ReplyDelete1 - On the Head of the Pin (one of the best angels eps)
ReplyDelete2 - Roadkill
3 - Dark Side of The Moon....
it's great at least one episode of S6 is winning.... ;)
, The French Mistake is winning. It's nice to see season 6 getting some love too. Today, we start the 16th episodes
ReplyDeleteBut they have to know it's coming! lol
ReplyDeleteAgreed about season 6. I think it has a shot with The Man Who Would Be King also, but I really, really hope not. My favorite episode of all time is running against it - What Is and What Should Never Be.
ReplyDelete1 ON THE HEAD OF A PIN -- One of Supernatural's finest hours. Huge twists regarding the seals, Alastair and Dean's dynamic was incredible, and all the angels seem to have each of their motives
ReplyDeleteidentified. 2 DARK SIDE OF THE MOON -- Zachariah makes it plain to the brothers that Heaven isn't always a haven. A lot of great moments in this ethereal episode. And the Mary scene was unnerving as well.3 ...AND THEN THERE WERE NONE -- One of the better episodes of season 6. There were quite a few twists (even if I saw 90% of them coming miles away...) I hated it when Gwen died. I thought it would finally be a new leaf where she'd change her mind about the brothers and help them out, and then go to the background as the only Campbell worth a damn in the world. Oh well... Also, the monster was way too much like those things from Animorphs. 4 ROADKILL -- Tricia Helfer was outstanding in this episode. The twist at the end is brilliant and I didn't see it coming even though that is a generally common twist in tv/movies these days.5 SHADOW -- I enjoy Meg quite a bit. I think this episode is a good one, but the shadow demons weren't scary to me outside of their description. I think the effects ruined it for me. I'd almost prefer a hellhounds approach to them. ;)
I've never seen a spambot here before. lol
ReplyDeleteBwah - we might as well call the herpes monster Yeerks. They are very similar. So tell me, did you see Gwen getting shot by Dean as she was talking to Dean because I totally did not. I expected that she would die but not at that point and not in that way. It was one of the biggest shocks to me all season. I also did not expect Grandpa Creepy to get off the autopsy table but I guess I should have. It reminded me of Seven.
ReplyDeleteI flagged it so my guess is you won't see it for long. It is amazing we went so long without one.
ReplyDeleteI did not see the Gwen twist coming. I had to walk away from the tv to calm down after that one. But everything they threw in after that, including grandpa, Bobby, and the fakeout funeral I had pegged. I wish the creepy yeerk things were different in some way because just them looking like the yeerks takes the whole concept down a notch for me. I honestly believe Eve could've done better. (Although I think the whole Eve storyline could've been better as well.)
ReplyDeleteI flagged it as well so as to possibly shorten the time it takes to get noticed by mods? :P
ReplyDeleteI actually agree with everything you've said there, Wilson
ReplyDelete. I totally didn't see the Gwen twist either, I still hoped Dean would of killed Sampa, and I thought him killing Gwen was messed up. But what can you do? I actually like Gwen-but then all the female characters I start to like end up dead (I'm talking to you, JO-even though she's coming back)
...and then Christian died. I liked him to! okay, I was warming up to him- but I like Corin Nemic (Oh, Jonas Quin~) but yeah, total shocker.
This is probably another jefferson starship still on the loose. I wonder how many others are still out there?
ReplyDeleteOn the Head of a Pin. Another easy one for me. There's way too much cool stuff in that episode not to vote for it.
ReplyDeletelol Oh no, Christian had to die. If they didn't do it, I would've done it myself.
ReplyDeleteExactly. :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed and if Grandpa Creepy hadn't died in this episode, my TV would have had a giant remote-shaped hole in the screen.
ReplyDeleteFrom earlier - I didn't have a problem with the herpes monster but I share your frustration with the whole Eve plot line. I wish they had saved her for this season. She got screwed storywise.
While my original reaction to Grandpa Creepy being killed by Sam was disappointment, I ended up being glad because if Dean killed him it would have been in cold blood for revenge. This took care of His High Annoyingness and kept us from rolling in brother angst afterwards. Plus on both points.
ReplyDeleteseason 6?
ReplyDeleteor Mommy Dearest... i can't remember the other eps 19..
ReplyDeleteOur last poll of this part of the contest will be all the season finales against each other. Since the season finales are usually in the top echelon of episodes, I think it will be hard for people to choose which one they like best. Off the top of my head, I would say it will be close between All Hell Breaks Loose 2 and Swan Song, but who knows at that point.
ReplyDeleteSince the poll was easy for you two, how about a follow up question? What was your favorite scene in On the Head of a Pin?
ReplyDeleteOn the head of a pin :D And liked dark side :D dont like to rewatch roadkill but loved it the first time... dont ask ahaha. dont remember shadow (i said i need a rewatch duh! i will soooon) and then they were none... i really cant talk to much about season 6, ive seen most ep only once so my memory is not good but i think i liked it
ReplyDeleteThat one has a real shot too. I however will be voting for Provenance for that one. It will also go against Folsom Prison Blues, Jump the Shark (ugh), and Hammer of the Gods. Therefore, it has a pretty decent chance of winning.
ReplyDeleteI was more dissapointed by rufus dead...
ReplyDeleteI think Roadkill loses something on the repeat because it's big draw (besides Tricia Helfer) was the twist at the end. Once you know it, there's less to watch it for.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely voting Mommy Dearest in that poll. I might be one of the few people who hated seeing all the Gods to be introduced and slaughtered almost within the same 10 minutes. HOWEVER, while it was happening I was totally like "Whoa, GORE!" lol
ReplyDeleteAgreed. That was the saddest part of the whole episode. I was hoping only the Campbells were going to die, but when Grandpa Creepy went that early I knew it wasn't meant to be. Supernatural really needs to stop killing off all my favorite secondary characters.
ReplyDeleteI really liked "Dark Side of the Moon" and "And Then There Were None" kept me on edge the entire time.In any other case it would have been a tough choice..
ReplyDeleteBut,"On The Head of the Pin" is in my Top 5 of all time favorite episodes and it gets my vote without a second thought(well, almost without a first thought,to be honest..)!
And I have to start thinking what to vote in episodes 20-22..That will be HARD!
Me too.
ReplyDeleteI mean, leave the people be! I think it's safe to say that SPN is now worse than any other show about killing people off. I know 24 and Lost did that quite a bit, but I don't know that it has ever gone to the point of having absolutely NO ONE left over. o.o
Hammer of the Gods splits me. I love the parts Gabriel is in. Everything else, not so much. It felt like another wasted episode when they could have been doing something spectacular with the Apocalypse. Plus, when all the gods were gathered, all I could think of was Stargate SG-1, and Stargate did other gods much, much better.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is wrong with you!?
ReplyDeleteBeen taking lessons from Adam/Alastair?
I have a few: Dean tormenting Alastair and then finding out about the first seal. Anna and Castiel's talk... Uriel fighting Castiel (and Anna killing Uriel!)... Also, seeing Sam juiced up enough to kill Alastair. Wild stuff.
the vampire diaries also kills a lot, but it has a larger cast.
ReplyDeleteYeah if they stay on the course they're on now, SPN will have lost that crown. Because everybody seems to have a target on their back on TVD. lol
ReplyDeleteOh great... John Winchester level. :P
ReplyDeleteIt's a tie between Sam and Ruby in the motel revealing his blood addiction, Sam busting in and killing Alastair, and Uriel's confession to Castiel and their ensuing fight. All three scenes were pretty darn important and quite entertaining to boot.
ReplyDeletePut it this way, if all the dead on Supernatural were to rise at once, they'd have more zombies than The Walking Dead casting crew ever dreamed of. On Supernatural, you're really not anyone until they've killed and raised you at least 3 times. Even the dead have to worry about dying on this show. It's gone way too far.
ReplyDeleteme in second. Currently for the 15th episode, The French Mistake is winning. It's nice to see season 6 getting some love too. Today, we start the 16th episodes where I will once again NOT be voting with the majority. Let's just say On th
ReplyDeleteIt's a powerful motivator to get off that level. Why was he voted in again?
ReplyDeletePersonally I can't wait until the finales. I think for most people it won't be a question of which one to vote for but how to rank them. It will also be hard to NOT vote for episodes that people traditionally vote for. When doing what's your favorite episode by season many times the season finale gets a lot of votes no matter what season you're polling. To have to vote against 5 of the six ought to generate some interesting responses.
ReplyDeleteeasily on the head of a pin <3 tis my all time favorite episode!
ReplyDeleteLOL that is true :) I wish that they were able to get her back to play Meg though...the new actress wasn't so Meg in my opinion
ReplyDeleteI love your explanations especially about the shadow demons in Shadow although that is my favorite of this bunch because it has all the Winchester men and the family story is what is compelling to me...

There's something for everyone in these episodes and all of them excellent in their own way.
ReplyDeleteIn Shadow we get Meg, for me best female villain so far, and lots of little touches, the reunion with John, Sam playing detective, the boys getting captured etc.etc.
Roadkill was interesting with the final twist which, in retospect, explained some of the boys earlier dialogue on the best way to conduct this hunt.
On the Head of a Pin was a terrific, well-acted episode but too depressing for my taste.
I just can't stand seeing a person tortured and I don't just mean Alastair, for Dean was too, if in a different way.
I must give my vote to Dark Side of the Moon.
Any episode that tells us more about their back-story is for me.
Maybe it wasn't 100% perfect but we get to see Ash, Pamela, a villanous Zachariah, little Colin Ford, a tour of Heaven, the news that God knows everything but is putting the Apocalypse on Sam and Dean' shoulders and the heartbreaking dumping of the Amulet.
ATTWN No vote as yet!!
So 1) Dark Side of The Moon 2) Shadow 3) Roadkill 4) On the Head of a Pin
Looks like another jefferson starship.
ReplyDeleteMy list is:
ReplyDelete1.And Then There Where None
2.On The Head of a Pin
3.Roadkill
4.Shadow
5.Dark side of the Moon
I've just been thinking about And Then There Were None - my favorite scene (among many) in the episode has to be the Bobby/ Grandpa Creepy scene:
ReplyDeleteBobby: "So, you're Samuel."
Samuel: "You must be the guy pretending to be their father."
Bobby: "Well somebody ought to."
I cheered. Bobby is SO awesome. :)
So true! And he does a much better job of it than their actual father and all. :)
ReplyDeleteI believe we established several months ago that Dahne actually took torture lessons from Dean while he was in hell. What she was doing there and how exactly she got out is still a mystery. I seriously hope Cas had nothing to do with it
ReplyDelete1. Dark Side of the Moon - I absolutely love this episode. Its definitely one of my favorites.
ReplyDelete2. And Then There Were None - Great episode! I loved Bobby and Rufus!
3. On The Head of a Pin - Another great episode!
4. Shadow - One of the best of Season 1!
5. Roadkill - I like this episode. I think it has an interesting story but its just not as high as the others.
On the Head of a Pin. Loved that episode :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear gosh! I forgot what I voted for....4 minutes ago. I need some sleep! Oh! Roadkill. That was my number one.
ReplyDeleteRoadkill -- This ep contained a twist I didn't catch in the first act. It was a pretty satisfying (for
me at least) visit to the monster of the week style episode.
Shadow -- we got to meed Big Daddy Winchester and I loved it. Dark Side of the Moon - I like the character stuff; the angsty stuff. I love having the
characters I love pushed to the edge. The road to Dean finally saying out loud how he'd
always felt about Sam's desire to step out of his family's shadow and that last scene
where he tossed the neclkace. Well... I was happy.
And Then There Were None -- I'm having a hart time with these last two. My knee jerk reaction is
to tie it with On the Head of a Pin on the bottom but...I'm having trouble quatifying why. I
remember having a great time watching it and being upset about Rufus, but it's falling at the
bottom of the list for me.
On the Head of a Pin -- There were bits of the arc stories that were good but I just couldn't get behind
the Dean torturing scenes. Most of it was that I just did not like the actor playing Allistar's
voice. The scenes just didn't work for me.
actually, i think it loses that one the 2nd repeat (as in the 3rd viewing) because onece you know the twist, its actually really interesting to watch the episode again, understanding that she's the ghost (yes they do this at the end of the episode a bit but its better if you watch again) but then by the third time you really already know the twist so it isn't as epic anymore
ReplyDeleteSame there :)
ReplyDeleteVoted for Dark Side of the Moon. But it was a tough choice between that and "And then there were none".
ReplyDeletePersonally, I can't choose between Shadow and Roadkill. They're two of my favourite SPN episodes of all time.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Shadows ! One of best episodes of the first season.
ReplyDelete1. Shadows
2. On The Head of A Pin
3. Roadkill
4. Dark Side of the Moon
5. And Then There Were None
I actually prefer the current Meg because she is a better actress, although I really enjoyed Nicki Aycox in Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester.
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky I don't have smiting power. Align myself with Supernatural angels? I don't think so. After special tutoring from Dean, the King of Hell himself released me. Apparently Crowley thought I would be more useful to him topside. As for what we happened below? Well in hell, they don't tell and they don't share.
ReplyDeleteshadows is important because the boys reunite with his dad and on the head dean knows he broke the first seal two climatic episode that defines how characters evolved
ReplyDeleteMine too
ReplyDeleteReally, really tough choice today. All were excellent episodes, but in the end I was stuck between Shadow, On the Head of a Pin, and Dark Side of the Moon.
ReplyDeleteShadow - loved everything about this from the intro Chicago girl death, to the appearance of John, to early Meg, to the scariness of demons (at that time) and shadow monsters. The family moments between John and his sons were great, and this is where season 1 picked up in interest for me.
On the Head of a Pin - I loved the Cas/Anna/Uriel scenes and the scene between Cas and Dean in the hospital. The negative for me was that I couldn't buy Dean as a torturer that Allistar should be afraid of. Jensen is just too clean cut, boy next door. I also loved when Sam showed up and killed Allistar. Jensen and Jared both have their strengths, and I think Jared is more natural as a badass killer.
Dark Side of the Moon - Loved Dean waking up in Heaven with Cas on the radio and the flashback of the fireworks. I also loved Zach's line - "you're running from an angel, in heaven, on foot." Most of the flashbacks got too depressing from there after, and I didn't like the fighting just because Sam valued non-family memories more than Dean did.
So in the end I went with Shadow. Head of a Pin would have come in second. For fourth and fifth choice I would have picked And Then There Were None and then Roadkill.
I love these polls, even tho I always feel like I'm betraying 4 epis by choosing my favorite, it's like choosing one of kids over the others and then telling them! On The Head Of A Pin ranks first for me, I love watching Christopher Heyerdahl work, he was just soo good at being sooo bad, he's definitely one of my fav demons and watching Dean get some back on Alistair was both satisfying and heartbreaking because Dean didn't want to torture again and he was so broken and defeated afterwards that we weren't sure if he would ever get back to being 'Dean'.
ReplyDelete1.On The Head Of A Pin
2.Shadow
3.Dark Side Of The Moon
4.And Then There Were None
5.Roadkill
For me:
ReplyDeleteAnd The There Were None
Dark Side of the Moon
Shadow
On the Head of a Pin
Roadkill
you do have a point about the acting but Nicki Aycox will always be the MEG for me :)
ReplyDelete1.Dark Side of the Moon
ReplyDeletea hard one for me
ReplyDeletei went with dark side of the moon but i could have easily gone with on the head of a pin or and then there were none
i dunno, there was just something about DSotM that i really liked (i can asssure you it wasn't the part where dean threw away the necklace, i have never cried more!) so although i love those other 2 options, i guess i just like DSotM
next up would be on the head of a pin. IMO one of the best episodes of season 4, and i'm not a big season 4 fan, but this episode really was awesome. it ended what was for me a 5 episode streak of crappy, non-memorable episodes and was just really intense and epic the whole way through. where we really learnt (from what i can remember) that the angels weren't necessarily the good guys
and then there was none was also great. basically if i were to say why i like it would be to recap everything dahne said in the post above. but it is a great episode and for me it comes second below my basically tied 2 in first position.
shadow and roadkill, i like both of them, but neither of them are all too memorable. i loved the twist at the end of roadkill, i thought it made for a great episode. i liked meg in shadow. it was back when demons were scary, unknown and very dangerous, deadly and powerful and so it, along with the shadow monsters, made for a pretty 'supernatural' episode. but i can't really rank either of them above the other
no rest for the wicked for me was awesome. it was the first time i had ever seen a season finale of supernatural (season 3 was the first season i watched) and it was awesome. i was literally left in awe of what i had just seen. i had watched an entire season of some new show, watching these 2 brothers trying to save dean. i was sure he was going to make it, i never guessed they would actually kill him at the end. i remember clearly that moment when the hell hounds rip dean open and we see him lying in hell shouting for sam. the screen went black and my mouth hung open for about the next 15 minutes. so, i know it's not a part of this poll but i know i won't be able to vote for it in the season finale because there were other better ones. so if it were here, no rest for the wicked would totally get my vote.
On the Head of a Pin!
ReplyDeleteColin Ford is always a treat. I can't wait to see what he does in episode 7.03. I also agree that Zachariah was particularly villainous in DSotM. I hate when they make Mary evil and he definitely played the mom card.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to SpoilerTV Jan. Thanks for sharing your ranking.
ReplyDeleteIt was a verbal smackdown long overdue. I just wish it had been longer and real smack ensued.
ReplyDeleteI am sad there's no Bobby and Rufus spin-off possibility now. I loved the two together doing their grumpy old hunters routine. The writers did an excellent job making us care for Rufus only to rip him away. Boo!
ReplyDeleteRoadkill took me by surprise too. It took a long time to figure out she was a ghost, but the biggest shock for me was that her husband was still alive and making a life for himself.
ReplyDeleteChristopher Heyerdahl really does do evil well. That man scares me just by walking into a scene. He doesn't have to say a word.
ReplyDeleteI think it's funny how everyone feels bad about the episodes they don't pick. It sometimes makes me feel disloyal too. What a great testament to Supernatural that we can usually say something good about every episode.
Seems I'm missing out, as of the two I've seen so far, I prefer Roadkill to Shadow... I didn't like Meg...
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's like re-watching "The Six Sense" or "The Others"... both movies pale significantly once "The Reveal" is given. The ending of Roadkill took me by surprise, too, but my daughter who watching the episode hours later on the opposite coast from my place said she caught the "Sixth Sense" vibe almost from the beginning when we discussed the episode later.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that these are easily one of my favorite sets of episodes... Roadkill was a good filler (loved the twist ending), And Then There Were None had a lot of good scenes and shocking deaths, Dark Side of the Moon had some cool moments (especially for the brothers), Shadow was my favorite season one episode, and On The Head Of a Pin is in my top five favorite episodes (other than finales)... OTHOAP wins for me, because we got Sam using his powers to kill the amazing Alastair, Dean torturing and landing at his weakest, the reveal about the first seal, Cas got to be a little more independant, Anna returned and Uriel died... how perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteMy vote goes to "And then there were none".
ReplyDeleteI love the thunderdome concept: A couple of hunter goes in only a few came out. Rufus was a great character. The mother of all was still scary in that episode and the brothers worked great together.
Further:
Head of a pin
Shadow
Roadkill
Dark side of the moon (this episode would rank higher but the amulett beeing throw away broke my heart, still is and always will be!)
Out of context: Yeah, just got the Balthazar badge. I want to linger here a bit. Liked him :)
ReplyDelete1-Shadow-I really love the brotherly banter in this episode and creepy Meg, plus JDM as JW back for an emotional family reunion, this is one of my favourite episodes of the series2-On the Head Of A Pin-the actor who plays Alistair gave me chills, I was genuinely scared of him. My favourite part of the episode was finding out just what Sam was up to and him killing Alistair it was a truly shocking moment3-Roadkill-although this is a filler episode its one of the best fillers, I liked the build up and the actress who played Molly was excellent, I loved how the brothers handled this particular case4-And then There Were None-not a great episode but one that I liked none the less, I was shocked that they would kill Sampa off so suddenly without him having ever been important to the story and Gwen had great potential but lasted all of two minutes. Loved how both Bobby and Dean were so protective of Sam.5-Darkside of the Moon-I love the fourth of July memory with Colin Ford as young Sam and I also liked learning more about Sam as a kid, I liked how he was forced to consider how his actions affected Dean but didn't like how Dean refused to consider Sam's POV. I dont doubt for a second that had Zach not been trying to break Dean (which he did btw) Sam's happy memories would have been of Jessica.
ReplyDeleteShadow!
ReplyDeleteDespite liking most of these eps, this poll was a no brainer for me. Dark Side of the Moon was probably my favorite ep over all of the series. I loved the fireworks scene -- seeing Dean truly smile for the first time in a long time was priceless. I liked how it was rigged that all Dean's memories were of his family and all Sam's were getting away from his. Whether it was angel manipulated or not, it showed the strengths and weaknesses and the how far the brothers were in their mindsets and priorities. After DotM, I would place On The Head of a Pin (even tho there was waaay too much angel for my tastes) and ...And Then There Were None. The whole Mother storyline turned out to be a red herring, but it was a downright creepy episode where we were served the end of GpaCreepy (yay!), Gwen (meh) and Rufus (sniff!). Roadkill was okay, I caught on that she was a ghost right away, so maybe it didn't have the full impact for me, and Shadow was also okay and I loved that it brought John back to the boys.
ReplyDeleteThis one isn't difficult for me either. I have a preference for the second half of Season 6. There a number of episodes I really liked, but And Then There Were None is one of the best I've seen in a while. It had it all. I would follow that with On the Head of a Pin. The interaction of the torture scene between Dean and Alistair should have won Emmy nominations for both actors. it was that well done. Being on the CW cost of both of them a well deserved nomination, and it isn't right. The entire story was great. 3. Would have to be Shadow. Season one had a number of great episodes, but the ones with Meg were probably some of the best. The ones John have to be included in that. 4. I'm kind of caught between the last, but Dark Side of the Moon is better then Roadkill in my opinion. So, there you have it.
ReplyDeleteI believe we have the same list this time. lol That's the only way to go.
ReplyDeleteIt will be one of those two, I'm sure and I can't choose. I don't for sure that I can.
ReplyDeleteCool, I just got Balthazar.
ReplyDeleteNot just towards John, but towards Samuel, who had always dissed John , and worse then their father. John never tried to have them killed. Bobby is truly the best father they've ever had.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with you on far the brothers' priorities had parted company by Dark Side of the Moon. The hurt in Dean's voice when he talked about Sam's running on his watch and having to face their father over it. I have often wondered exactly what John Winchester did to Dean when he came home and found Sam gone? Poor Dean must have been in a panic.
ReplyDeleteNo John never tried to have them killed but he wasn't above using them as bait in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion Meg gets better when the actress changes, but a lot of people differ.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed both Megs quite a lot. I don't know if I'd feel the same about another one. They were pretty lucky to get it right twice.
ReplyDeletegreat poll
ReplyDeleteMAJOR love for alastair, so it goes:
ReplyDelete1. on the head of a pin
2. dark side of the moon
3. shadow
4. roadkill
5. and then there were none
not a huge fan of angst myself, and I thought it was heavy in dark side of the moon (prolly cause it was sandwiched between other angsty episodes), but I absolutely LOVED on the head of a pin. :D I could watch that a thousand times. I get all psyched out just thinking of all of christopher heyedahl's parts. =D Makes me want to watch all his other stuff. :'D
Uriel dying was a high point for me too. In fact most people dying in seasons 4 and 5 were high points in the series. (Gabriel not so much.) Maybe that's why they kill people so often.
ReplyDeleteI liked how the brothers had those silent conversations to determine what they would do together in ATTWN. I had missed them in the previous 2 seasons and with RoboSam. It's the silent conversations that let me know the brother relationship is intact and functioning. I think this episode also gave form and purpose to Mother, which was lacking before it.
ReplyDeleteI'd linger on Crowley instead, Crowley. :-)
ReplyDeleteDark Side of the Moon, is mostly definitely my favorite of the bunch. Next would be On the Head of a Pin, And Then There Were None, Roadkill, and Shadow. I must say that episodes that include Meg automatically get a downgrade for me, seeing as how I dislike the character, all versions.
ReplyDeleteI knew you were going to vote DSotM. I agree that the firework scene was perfect because you could feel the joy coming from both brothers in the memory. Joy is sadly lacking in Supernatural, but in season 5 it was practically non-existent. If the rest of the episode hadn't sunk into the deepest depression of all, it would be much higher on my list.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure John put the blame squarely on Dean's shoulders AGAIN and ignored his own bad parenting. I also would love to see that scene although I can't imagine I could hate John more for seeing it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed all around. I've given up on Emmy's for any show I love, especially Supernatural. My hope is that 4 years from now when the show ends, the actors will be in movies or TV shows that allow others to know what we see every season.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Welcome to SpoilerTV. What did you vote?
ReplyDeleteWelcome to SpoilerTV. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm not a pro-angst viewer myself. I think Alastair is the scariest character on Supernatural and that's saying something. Excellent job on Christopher Heyerdahl's part.
ReplyDeleteThere's Crowley too? OK, have to rush forward to get to Crowley and linger there....
ReplyDeletethe best part of that comment was "4 years form now, when the show ends". i love how long you're giving supernatural until it ends, although i would like to see another 400 years, 4 years would still be awesome :D, i don't know how i will live without it
ReplyDeletebut ash was there. nothing can be depressing with ash around :D
ReplyDeletebest line of the episode: dean: "we got ash killed too and he's cool with it"
ash (form across the room): "i'm cool with it!"
This poll is a lot closer than I thought it'd be! On the Head of a Pin, Dark Side of the Moon, and And Then There Were None are all such good and strong episodes.
ReplyDelete1. And Then There Were None - Bobby smackdown; ear check; Bobby & Rufus history; Campbells go bye bye
ReplyDelete2. One the Head of a Pin - Alastair & Dean; shock of Dean breaking 1st seal
3. Shadow - great one-liners; Sam's spidey sense about Meg; Shadow demons were interesting
4. Darkside of the Moon - Firework scene (happy times); Colin as young Sam
5. Roadkill - I figured out Molly was a ghost way early on so no surprises for me; great guest actress; great one- liners
Sorry guys but my computer is going nuts. I may not be able to post the new poll tonight. If not I will find a computer tomorrow and post from there.
ReplyDeleteCloser than I expected too but I figures On the Head of a Pin and Dark Side of the Moon would have the advantage. This one has the benefit of a lot of episodes in the great range, but it also makes it harder to vote.
ReplyDeleteBest thing about And Then There Were None - no more Campbells. Very excited about that one.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. That scene really got to me as well.
ReplyDeleteOk I missed my chance to vote but I'll comment anyway to say that despite the prevailing views I am with Dahne on this. I hated both DSOTM and OTHOAP. Both far too depressing and destructive of the boys relationship. Also they both contain specific scenes I can't stand. Dean torturing Alastair, Cas rather than Sam being there when Dean wakes up in the hospital, all Sam's alleged (because I don't believe it) heaven-worthy memories, and throwing away the amulet. Ugh!! We need that back right now!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo if I'd been in time, I'd have voted for ATTWN, then Shadow.
Dark Side of the Moon was arguably my favorite episode of all time for any show.
ReplyDeleteEmmys are only for shows that aren't that great. In my opinion they aren't. I find nothing interesting in any of them. I don't have a lot of time for television. I am picky about what I watch. I enjoyed Smallville. I dvr Vampire Diaries. I watch Supernatural and Leverage. i will purchase Hawaii Five and Falling Skies.
ReplyDeleteI believe we have the same list this time. lol That's the only way to go.
