We're over halfway through our Supernatural favorite episode contest. While it looks like Jus in Bello will win for favorite 12th episode, the poll is not officially over yet so I will post the results in the next poll.
Today we have the battle of bad episodes. Now please don't get me wrong. When I say a bad episode of Supernatural, I still recognize that it is probably better than anything else that aired that week. To be honest, I would rather watch Bugs (my least favorite episode) on constant repeat than a new episode of 3/4 of most TV shows' best episodes. Yes, Supernatural is that good. But since this poll doesn't compare Supernatural to other shows, I am confident in saying episode 13 by and large sucks in all seasons for me. It's close to 6th episodes for me but that poll was saved by Skin.
Three of the 6 episodes are on my worst list, 1 moved up from that list just last month when I updated for season 6, and two fall in the meh category. Not an episode here could take my top 4 from yesterday with most falling below my #5, Criss Angel... too. So without further ado, here's why I don't like the following episodes. Feel free to tell me why I am crazy in the comments below.
Route 666 - I can sum up why this is my 3rd least favorite Supernatural episode of all time in 3 words - racist killer truck. Really nothing else needs to be said, but when you add one of the worst guest actresses in SPN history, you get an episode that tanks all around. Perhaps the script called for Cassie to act like a plank of wood because she sure made a good fence post. The only reason why this episode isn't dead last for me is because it had some good lines.
Houses of the Holy - I rewatched this episode last month and it was better than I remembered it to be. I think the SpongeBob place mat altar did it. Still, it was awkward in many places and out-of-character in others. I tend to not like when Supernatural takes on religion and this is one of the worst.
Ghostfacers - This episode tends to split the fandom. I'm on the "It's awful" side. In all honesty, I'm not as big a fan of Hell House as most people largely because I found Ed and Harry more annoying than funny. Ghostfacers was worse. However, my real problem is that this is the only episode that I find personally insulting as a fan. We had spent months of no new Supernatural because of the writer's strike. When that was finally resolved, we were told there would only be 4 more episodes. We lost 6 episodes. When we had last left off, Dean was going to hell, Ruby was manipulating Sam, and Lilith had just killed off some fabulous PiP's in a police station. They had 4 episodes left to resolve what had been my favorite season up to that point. AND THEY WASTED IT ON THIS MESS!!! That irritates me to no end as do the next 2 episodes. A season so chock full of potential and they squandered 3 of the 4 episodes they were given. I take that personally.
After School Special - Dean wears tight shorts and Sam learns the consequences of losing your temper with a bully. It really did seem like a 70's after school special. Generally I am a big fan of flash back episodes but not so much this one. Part of it is that I thought Brock Kelly overacted and the writing was inconsistent at best. Part of it is that I felt like they hammered the moral of Words Hurt into my head, something Supernatural usually does not do. Colin Ford is by far the highlight of this meh episode.
The Song Remains the Same - This is the winner for me...by default. It would never make it in any of the other polls. Young John and Mary were great as usual and the scene in the Impala where John sounds just like a dad was priceless. However, retconning Anna into Smiter Angel didn't work for me and it continues the de-sainthood of Mary. The Mary - Anna fight scene did rock my world though. A decent show but not one I'd rave about.
Unforgiven - Like straw in a scarecrow, this episode was season 6 filler to me. A place holder until we could get to Cas and Eve. (Yes, we have had this conversation before but nothing you say will make me believe this episode or Mannequin did anything but fill time.) The best part was in the last 2 minutes when Sam's wall came tumbling down. The black and white shots emphasized that Sam was not Sam, but as we had 12 previous episodes proving this it added little to the mytharc. The case was meh and I detest spiders so a literal Spider-Man did less than nothing for me. Blech.
Feel free to sound off on how I am too hard on these episodes and how I didn't talk about the best parts. After all, comments are like that one good push on a swing that soars you past hellatus.

Ranking bad episodes is as
ReplyDeletedifficult as ranking good episodes for me.
Here's my opinion today but it could easily change tomorrow. What do you think?
1. The Song Remains the Same
2. After School Special
3. Houses of the Holy
4. Unforgiven
5. Ghostfacers
6. Route 666
Unforgiven and Houses of the Holy..
ReplyDeleteCan you put the previous winners?
ReplyDeleteI went with Unforgiven. A filler indeed, but a good one. The script was clever, and what an awesome ending.
ReplyDeleteI think we'll all agree about Route 666 being the worst.
I don't really dislike Ghostfacers, but I completely agree with what you said about the insult as a fan, Dahne. And not only was it right after the hiatus, it was after Jus In Bello, one of the most intense episodes of SPN. Total letdown.
Houses of the Holy was okay. Didn't like the ending though, way overdramatic.
Have to disagree about The Song Remains The Same though. Anna was a dreadful character, and the story was just ridiculous to me.
As for Afterschool special... I liked it, even though it had it's flaws. I'll always remember it as a breath of fresh air in the middle of season 4, especially after Family Remains and Criss Angel.
So here's my ranking ...
1. Unforgiven
2. Afterschool Special
3. Houses Of The Holy
4. Ghostfacers
5. Route 666
Sure, I forgot about it. I will put it in the actual post from here out but for today:
ReplyDeletePrevious Winners:Lazarus Rising (season 4)Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester (season 4)Bad Day at Black Rock (season 3)The End (season 5)Simon Said (season 2)Skin (season 1)The Usual Suspects (season 2)Changing Channels (season 5)Croatoan (season 2)Abandon All Hope (season 5)
Mystery Spot (season 3)
Jus in Bello (season 3)
Houses of the Holy was way too melodramatic for me too. It fluctuates quite a bit on my episode list, depending on my mood when I've last seen it.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Dahne on Route 666 -
ReplyDeleteSam: "I miss conversations that didn't start with 'this killer truck'." about sums it up.
Ghostfacers was just silly. I hated the hand-held camera thing - it made me feel ill.
After School Special, again I agree with you Dahne about Brock Kelly, but I loved Colin Ford's performance.
The Song Remains the Same. Anna irritated me and every scene she was in ripped me out of the story - Yes. she annoyed me that much!
Houses of the Holy - best thing about it:
Dean: "Yeah, you know what? There's a ton of lore on unicorns too. In fact, I hear that they, they ride on silver moonbeams, and they shoot rainbows out of their ass."
Sam: "Wait, there's no such thing as unicorns?"Which leaves Unforgiven. I'm not as anti-spiders as you are Dahne, so that wasn't an issue for me. I also agree it was a filler episode but not so bad. And the moment at the end when Sam collapsed was the best part of the episode - and doesn't that sound WRONG????
So, after all that, I'm no closer to making a choice - darn it. I'll have to think some more before I make a choice.
Seriously?
ReplyDeleteI don't think these episodes are too bad :D
And I actually love the Ghostfacers, they-are-HILARIOUS! xD
For me, it is like this:
1. Ghostfacers
2. Houses of the Holy
3. The Song Remains the Same
4. After School Special
5. Route 666
6. Unforgiven
The only episode 13 I didnt like was Route 666, the rest have been pretty damned good.
ReplyDeleteI voted AFTER SCHOOL SPECIAL because I love it when the show delves into the boys past. Colin Ford and Brock Kelly did an excellent job as young Sam and Dean,
UNFORGIVEN-a good episode even if it didnt really tell us anything we didnt already suspect at the very least, IMO the thing that lets it down is the MOTW-those spider monster things were just lame. But I liked seeing just how nasty Robo-Sam was rather than just hearing about it.
THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME-loved young Mary and John (especially John) seeing the boys with their parents was just heart rendering at times. Sam's speech to John was really beautiful and the part where the boys tell their mum to leave their dad so they are never born kills me every time. Plus Anna as a psycho bitch was a cool bonus.
HOUSES OF THE HOLY-it took me a long time to finally get around to watching this episode, it always sounded like one of those easily forgettable ones but once I did see it I was absolutely in awe of how brilliantly it is written. My favourite scene is right at the end the boys talking.
GHOSTFACERS-I might be in a minority but I loved this episode, its one me and my sister watch over and over again just for a laugh. My favourite part-the duffel bag! I also love the brotherly stuff-Sam getting all sad because of Dean's impending doom and Dean getting all freaked and big brotherly when Sam goes missing.
This was definitely one of the harder choices to make.
Ghostfacers easily the best of these to me. Hilarious and I love the appearances of the ghostfacers.
ReplyDeleteThe Song Remains the Same kinda sucked to me cause I don't like time travel episodes, didn't like the sudden change to Anna. The only redeeming part of it was Michael finally getting a chance to talk to Dean.
These are interesting observations "in an observationally interesting way." Route 666 for it's truly horrible plot and even worse execution did have some lines I still use today.
ReplyDelete"Am I speaking a language you're not getting here?" Use this one all the time.
"Blink or something."
Top 3:After School Special.GhostfacersThe Song Remains the Same
ReplyDeleteMy least favourte episode is Ghostfacers.
ReplyDeleteI'm probably in the minority but the "meta" episodes just don't appeal to me.
Route 666 was a run of the mill, low appeal, ep. for me
I liked " Houses of the Holy" and I found Sam and Dean to be totally in character.
Sam who prays, was believable, as was Dean who pooh-poohed the whole idea.
Then I loved the ending where Sam, who had hoped for a higher good to watch over and save him, was heart-broken to find out that there wasn't, and Dean, who hadn't believed, now thinking that maybe there was.
Then it was sort of the fore-runner to the whole apocalypse thing.
"After School Special" and "The Song Remains the Same " are my two favourites here, simply because any episode that tells me something about the boys' past is on my no.1 list.
I haven't seen season 6 yet so I can't say about Unforgiven so my vote goes to TSRTS because it gave Sam a chance to see his mum!
I don't think this is a bad crop at all. I have never understood why so many don't like Route 666. I liked it fine. I enjoyed ASS although it didn't have enough young Dean/Sam interaction for it to be a favourite. I thought HotH was a really moving ep and very important for Sam's character. I loved it. Ghostfacers I hated. It simply wasn't a SPN episode. Unforgiven I agree was filler, and as I was heartily sick of Soulless Sam already, was not at all interested in his back story. However it had some nice Dean/Sam moments.
ReplyDeleteTSRTS got my vote. I just loved this ep - even though I don't like what they did to Anna and thought killing her was a waste of a great character. Young Mary and John are wonderful. Sam's reaction to seeing his mum was heartbreaking. Sam's speech to John ditto. The scene in the car was a classic. Overall a great ep.
Ghostfacers was my very first episode of Supernatural. I'll never forget it for that reason but at the same time it nearly turned me off from ever watching the show again (luckily I have a very persistent sister). I'll say that after watching the episodes before Ghostfacers and then seeing it a second time it wasn't so bad and had some pretty funny moments (like its super obvious if it weren't for tv censors, Sam and Dean especially, would cuss a lot worse and a lot more often and this episode shows some of that). But overall Ghostfacers isn't one of my top favs.
ReplyDeleteRoute 666 is eww for all the reasons listed above. Only good scene in there is watching Dean during the sex scene with Casey.
Houses of the Holy I actually liked for an odd reason, foreshadowing. Because of the awkward order I watched the show in I already knew about Michael and the angels. Seeing this episode there's a high level of irony to be had when you watch it but already know what is to come. Like when they point out Michael the Archangel in a painting and when Dean wonders if he "saw God's will" even though we know at this point Dean is a strong non-believer. Otherwise it's forgettable.
After School Special is funny and amusing on the first watch through but subsequent viewings prove it to be sub-par especially in season 4 which had consistently great episodes. A few funny moments and great performance by Collin Ford as Sam but otherwise not much else to be said.
The Song Remains the Same: I love the time traveling episodes and this one wasn't an exception to that. However I did feel that the sudden change in Anna's character was off the wall (I was actually just discussing this fact with a friend who might attempt to cosplay Anna). Otherwise it was a pretty good episode and though once again I must ask why the writer's insist on brutally killing Sam? Yea I know by the numbers Dean has died more just because of Mystery Spot, but exclude that episode and Sam has been killed onscreen way more often and in brutal sudden ways. TT_TT Its not fair.
Unforgiven I didn't mind and it was a fairly decent episode but was filler and MOTW. But it's also one of the season 6 eps I've only watched once so far. I didn't feel the need to go back to my dvr and watch it again (my poor dead dvr *taps plays*) or watch the summer re-run. My sister was actually fuming about this episode even before it aired due to the previews and teaser clips because she thought Robo!Sam was actually back. Then we sat through most of the episode with her bashing on Robo!Sam and sometimes Soulful!Sam too, much to my annoyance. Personally I thought Robo!Sam was a fun character and interesting. My sister on the other hand is a Dean!girl with a penchant for picking on Sam regardless, so Robo!Sam really got under her skin. Not that I supported Robo!Sam's actions at all but that's what made him fun. Now that I think about it, it was also the last episode we saw Robo!Sam in until the finale. I might have to go back and watch it again now (when my S6 dvds come).
Anyways in the end I let the vote go to The Song Remains The Same
Yay! You're back.
ReplyDeleteThis one's pretty easy for me. I loved Ghostfacers!
While I agree Route 666 is about my least favorite ep of the series from a monster of the week POV. For me the big problem with the episode was the car. It just couldn't be menacing. I never invested. However, I did invest in the Dean story. The one night stand king was really in love?!?! Maybe because I was watching Dean I never had the same problem with the actress playing Cassie that others seem to have had.
I wanted to like the ghost story. It was a story I never thought I'd see on the WB. It's not a network known for diverse casting. (Something this is, slowly, beginning to change. Yay!) But a ghost car? Just never grabbed me. That ghost never got close enough to be scary. Kathleen Noone, however, I was happy to see. (I'd watched her on her soap back in the day) One of my absolute favorite moments of that episode was her reaction when Dean asked her why she and her, then fiance, didn't call the police. It was just such a real moment and a moment that I've experienced. Her reaction was just so perfect. And the question coming from Dean was absolutely dead on too.
Anyway, My total ranking would be...
GhostFacers!
After School Special (I liked the ghost's motivation and the way the whole story
came back around to Sam and his flashback story.)
Unforgiven (everything but the spider monster...something about the big fight...distanced
me from the story.)
Houses of the Holy (The punch line of that ep worked really well for me)
Route 666
The Song Remains the Same ( I don't like the parents fighting. )
so glad we can get to this. It's not as easy as I thought when I first saw the poll come up.
so, i agree that some of these are bad, like never watch maybe more than 3 times bad (i'm talking to you route 666 and unforgiven)
ReplyDeletebut i don't think they are all awful.
i know you hate ghostfacers Dahne but i personally loved it. i thought it was hilarious and i loved the interactions between ed and harry and sam and dean. so although maybe none of these episodes would make my top something list, i voted ghostfacers because i do like that episode and i often rewatch, also, on my boxset its on the same disc as mystery spot and jus in bello so it make for one awesome disk, when i watch one i ahve to watch the other 2
next for me comes song remains the same although the rest of the episodes on this list are pretty unmemorable, this one takes spot 2 because of the 5 left its the most memorable. and i love the end when dean calls the little trio "team free will". i think it's cute and i have this cartoon drawing of sam, ean and cas saying team free will as my desktop wallpaper.
tied next are houses of the holy and after school special. not that i hated either episode, i just find them really unmemorable. often when i'm trying to think of or list the episodes in each season, these 2 are always in the pile i forget, and that pile is not very big
last is a tough call between route 666 and unforgiven. i an't really pick a bottom here. i haven't seen route 666 for a few years now, not since i first watched it 2 years ago. so i don't remember many of the details but i don't feel inclined at all to watch it again. i prefer bugs to route 666.
but i hate spiders. so unforgiven isn't the best episode for me. all the blood and creepy and gore i can deal withbut giant spider people spinning webs of evil spider poison? nope, not for me. and it was also pretty crappy too. if it didn't have the awesome flashbacks edited in there it would be pretty boring but i admit those flashbacks were done really well.
its funny how one spot (episode 12) can have so many great episodes while another (13) can have so many bland ones. funny how it happens that way :D i wonder if that trend will continue into season 7 and onwards :D
love that unicorn line, i use it all the time.
ReplyDeletesadly, no-one i know watches supernatural so all i ever get is a bunch of weird looks
i totally agree about anna. she annoyed me so much in TSRTS, i just thought her plan was stupid and there were probably better ways they could have come up with to revisit their parents in the past
i also agree on after school special, i was never convinced by Brock Kelly's dean but i loved colin ford as sam, he is so perfect!!!
So difficult.
ReplyDelete1. After School Special
2. The Song Remains the Same
3-5. Ghostfacers/Unforgiven/Houses of Holy (Love this all 3 episodes so much, that I can't rank them lower.)
6. Route 666
I loved both After School Special and Unforgiven, so I had trouble deciding. With After School Special, the high school part was a fun change. I loved young Sam and how much of current Sam was channeled into Colin's performance (the whole freak, temper, and the lesson that no matter what he does, he loses). Finally, I loved the final scene with the teacher, when the teacher asks if he's happy and the look on Sam's face. I agree that there was something off about Brock's portrayal of Dean (it was like Brock was making Dean his own and not taking into account how Jensen had portrayed him). But I thought the Dean scene also shed some light on Dean's conflicted feelings about his hunting life and his father while he was growing up. I'm surprised this episode isn't more popular than it is.
ReplyDeleteIn Unforgiven, I loved finally seeing the real Sam again after such a long break. I thought the episode was really well done, and it was such a welcome change after the first half with RoboSam. It could have been improved by telling us something significant about his past that we didn't already know. And I also didn't like the Hell tease at the end - that Sam experiences Hell memories but won't say a word about them. But I voted for Unforgiven because it was the episode from season 6 that I rewatched when I was missing Sam too much.
As for the others, I wasn't crazy about The Song Remains the Same. Sam was made to look like an idiot when he met his mother (Sam, even thrown off guard, is much smoother than that), and I hated what they did to Anna, who is probably my favorite female character on this show. Meeting the young Mary and John didn't have as much impact the second time around.
The first three episodes didn't leave much of an impression on my, although I probably need to watch them again.
I was torn between The Song Remains The Same (b/c we get young John and Mary and its filled with action and emotion), After School Special (b/c we get flashbacks to Sam and Dean in high school) , Houses of the Holy (which is just awesome to begin with, but becomes somewhat more interesting now that we actually have seen angels on the show), and Ghostfacers (because its awesomely hilarious). I ended up picking Houses of the Holy.
ReplyDeleteUnforgiven for me... I love the flashbacks and the RoboSam on this one =)
ReplyDeleteNo doubts for me:Favorite of the list: Houses of the HolyLess favorite: Ghostfacers
ReplyDeleteI think The Song Remains the Same destroyed Anna's character, which was meh for me as I never particularly cared for her anyway, and continued the fall of Mary, which bugs me to no end. The Winchesters had their lives ruined trying to avenge the person who began the whole thing in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about meta, but I'm actually surprised that Ghostfacers isn't winning this. From jsut casually going to different web sites in season 3 I thought fan reaction was about half and half, leaning a bit more to the positive. Given it's competition here, I felt it would win. This may end up the most surprising round for me.
ReplyDeleteAs for HotH, I found Sam's sudden change of being willing to kill humans jarring. Sam wanting to kill that guy without any hesitation at all seemed way out of character even factoring in the ghost high. As far as Sam believing in angels and Dean not, I found that part in character also. I just think they went overboard to hit us over the head with their point and some of the writing was way too emotional.
I think I liked Houses of the Holy better the last time I saw because of the foreshadowing too. I still thought it was heavy handed but I found myself talking to the screen and on Live Chat whenever they talked about angels. Heading for a Heartbreak was running through my head the whole time too.
ReplyDeleteFrom best (voted for) to least liked:
ReplyDeleteUnforgiven - "hot", just plain bad & BA SS and last few minutes - enough said
TSRTS/HOTH - tie
A S S - good writing for both Sams, weak writing for Adult Dean, poorly written (for the most part) Teen!Dean
GF/Route 666 - tie for awful episodes I never rewatch - bleech!
I think you are in the majority with Ghostfacers. Generally people look at me like I'm nuts when I say I can't stand it. Actually my favorite thing about this series of polls has been hearing why people loved an episode I thought sucked and vice versa. It never fails to remind me how diverse Supernatural is and how people watching the same show are attracted by such diverse things.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the hardest thing about running the poll this way (by episode numbers) is that I often find myself voting for things I would never vote for in a traditional episode poll while not being able to vote for some of my favorite episodes. It's frustrating but it also makes me think about the episodes more since I don't have already pre-established episodes I vote for every time.
I love The Song Remains the Same but Ghostfacers takes an incredibly close first place! Its way too funny for its own good :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't care for meta although to be honest the second time I watched Ghostfacers I did get a minimum of humour from it, but that's about as far as I can go!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of the spaceship idea proposed by Ben Edlund by the way!
As for HotH remember that one of Sam's characteristics (as we were told in the show ) is self-righteousness and maybe, the ghost high as you called it,amplified that!
However we don't know that Sam would have actually killed the guy, he might just have tried to stop him.
When you come down to it Supernatural is a very emotional show!
You come to care deeply about what happens to the two brothers and some of the scenes can make you feel so weepy!
It just depends on one's degree of emotional supportation, I suppose,
regards
I'm still dithering over this, and I've seen all these episodes roughly the same number of times - my OCD won't let me leave any out. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not knocking anyone who does skip episodes but I find it hard to understand how anyone can. (Although I have to admit, I've THOUGHT about leaving episodes out of rewatches - Route 666 & Ghostfacers being among them)
I guess I'll just have to revert to my tried and true method for when all else fails - gut reaction. I'll just go through the list a pick the one that stands out most. Ok going there......now.
Unforgiven. Mainly because it WAS so disturbing, I think.
Voted for Ghostfacers.
ReplyDeleteTSRTS was a close second, but Anna's character deconstruction ruined it quite a bit for me. (And this from someone who isn't a huge Anna fan to begin with. I just thought she was acting WAY too OOC I found it quite distracting that the episode lost quite a few points)
Wow, this was quite a hard choice.
ReplyDeleteIn the end went with The Song Remains the Same
i choose "song" cos i love a bit of back story. I really enjoyed ghost facers and that came second for me :)
ReplyDeleteRoute 666 was not as good as others to me for the same reasons you stated above, with the empahasis on Cassie not really working for me as far as the love of Dean's life, and no its not cause I was jealous, well not all of it anyways. I just didn't care about her and the story was a bit lame. I feel terrible just saying that about a SPN episode. Do not get why Song Remains the Same is considered bad. I liked it alot! That Anna was turned bad was just part of the story- she felt she had to stop Sam anyway possible. I never felt about her character like I did Jo anyway so don't really miss her. Criss Angel is a Douchebag would be on the list for me.
ReplyDeleteI think Ben Edlund was completely kidding. The CW doesn't have the budget to do spaceships. However, I'm not putting a limit on what Ben Edlund thinks up. He's already shown a predilection towards the nutty.
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty hard to make a truck seem like a worthy opponent. The whole plot was silly. I actually had a problem with Dean asking about why they didn't go to the police. They have been all over the country and racism isn't exactly a hidden topic, especially when they had talked about it in the show already.
ReplyDeleteI thought the scenes with Sam and the teacher were particularly well done too. They tied the whole episode together.
ReplyDeleteHa! I find a certain amount of pleasure in skipping certain episodes. It's a lot easier for me to skip those than to suffer through another round of an episode I don't particularly like. I do watch all episodes at sometime in the year usually though just so I don't forget them. Well, except season 5. I find that sometimes I skip that entire season when I do rewatches.
ReplyDeleteI don't miss Anna either and she was never one of my favorites either. I think my problem with Anna in this episode is that she turned 180 degrees from her former characterization. I think it was a brilliant plan - an easy way to get rid of the problem. I just don't think that the Anna we saw in the first 2 episodes would be that calculating and cold blooded. Maybe angels are infectious - being around them turns you into a prick too.
ReplyDeleteI chose TSRTS because I like the stories that deal with Young John and Mary. Although, I must say that I liked In the Beginning much more. I also don't hate Route 666, like so many others. Don't get me wrong, it's not my favorite episode, but I don't hate or dislike it.
ReplyDeleteRoute 666 DUH!
ReplyDeleteLOL I got a badge for being a supernatural fan for my Route 666 post ahahah. something is wrong here.
ReplyDeleteseriously for me It's After school special, give me flashback I'll eat it till i die LOVE LOVE LOVE sammy :D hated ghostfacers, and I have yet to watch that episode from 0:00 to 45:00 at once... and that never happened with an other OMG I wanna watch season 4 right now so badly.. hmmm
Switch 1 with 2 and I agree :P though the end of ASS (pwhahaha) not so great imo, still love the ep.
ReplyDelete1. The Song Remains the Same
ReplyDelete2. Unforgiven
3. Houses of the Holy
4. After School Special
5. Ghostfacers
6. Route 666
I preferred Unforgiven to some of the others. I did not like Brock Kelly's portrayal of Dean at all. I can't recall Dean ever acting Sylvester Stallone, and to be honest I expected to hear Kelly yell "Adrienne!" any minute. That's he reminded me off. I'm sorry, but he did. lol Ghostfacers was just silly. I was never crazy about Cassie. House of the Holy was just soso. The only two that were partially good were The Song Remains the Same and Unforgiven.
This was hard for me because none of these episode struck me as just Awesome/Epic/Great/. It was more like the best of the meh episodes. Here's my list and something I liked in each episode.
ReplyDelete1. Unforgiven - a small glimpse of Sam's lost year, the cracking of the wall; Black & White vs. Color
2. The Song Remains the Same - the family in the Impala; young John and Mary; Michael talks to Dean
3. Houses of the Holy - insight into Sam and Dean's belief system and why the believe/don't believe in a
higher power was interesting to me; going ghetto with spell work
4. After School Special - Young Sam - Colin Ford; Dean in shorts; nod to 21 Jump St.
5. Route 666 - some good one-liners (couldn't think of anything else)
6. Ghostfacers - some good one-liners (couldn't think of anything else)
* All the shows, even the ones I don't particularly care for, at least have 'something' I like.*
Notice how 5 of these episodes are past related? I just noticed this with all the episodes laid out like that.
ReplyDeleteRoute 666- Dean's old flame Cassie.
Houses of Holy- Wee!Chesters at Christmas.
After School Special- Wee!Chesters in highschool!
TSRTS - Young!Mary and John, time travel.
That's crazy.
after school special is one of my favorites..
ReplyDeleteI don't remember any Wee!Chesters in Houses of the Holy? *is confused*
ReplyDeleteHa! I was seriously worried about you there. Glad to know it was After School Special for your vote. :-)
ReplyDelete"the best of the meh episodes" is a very apt description. I would say one plus for Ghostfacers is that it showed the brothers being clever by using the magnet to wipe the footage. Um, yeah that's about all I've got too.
ReplyDeleteBrock Kelly's performance drove me batty too. It was so over the top, it pulled me completely out of the episode.
ReplyDeleteNeither do I but you could say that it also deals with the past in that Dean talks about Mary telling him that angels were watching over them. I love how this ends up being nice continuity in at least 2 episodes down the road.

Agreed, the electomagnet to wipe the footage was brilliant, I had forgotten about that.
ReplyDeleteyeah, a couple of these polls have been killers, the only one i can remember specifically has been the last one though coz the others were a while ago. but i t was so hard not voting for nightshifter. but then, this whole thing just shows just how great supernatural is. i completely agree with what you said in your original post that i would much rather watch my least favourite episodes of supernatural than i would watch basically anything else on tv
ReplyDeleteI missed the poll, but I would've voted
