Strike Back Season 2 on Cinemax : Trailer, poster and synopsis

Strike Back strikes back.

Indeed, the Sky One action series returns this summer, but some things have changed. Instead of a 6-episode run, this second season has 10 episodes and Cinemax co-financed the season alongside UK broadcaster Sky One, giving this HBO network the opportunity to air these new episodes starting this summer.

Cinemax advertises that the "Series Premiere" will air on Friday, August 12th at 10pm. It's basically like what Starz is doing with the fourth season of BBC's Torchwood, they're promoting the show as their new original series.

Based on the popular spy novel by Chris Ryan, the first season of Strike Back was broadcasted on Sky One in the UK from May 5th to May 19th 2010, 2 episodes aired each Wednesday. These 6 episodes starred Richard Armitage as John Porter, a former British Special Forces soldier drafted back into service by a small unit of MI6, Section 20, to stop a terrorist threat. Andrew Lincoln, Jodhi May, Shelley Conn and Laura Greenwood were in the cast as well.

Sky One reports that Richard Armitage will be back for season 2, but most of his season 1 co-stars won't. He will star alongside Sullivan Stapleton (Damien Scott, a former US Special Forces operative) and Philip Winchester (Michael Stone, a Section 20 officer). They will have to team up to stop an international terrorist group.

After Iraq, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan in season 1, season 2 will explore new territories : filming of the second season of Strike Back took place in South Africa (in March/April) and Hungary (in May/June).

Frank Spotnitz, Richard Zadjlic, Simon Burke and Jed Mercurio wrote these 10 episodes, which were directed by Daniel Percival, Bill Eagles, Paul Wilmshurst and Alex Holmes. The show premieres in 6 weeks.

Here's a trailer of what will probably be an action-packed summer fun :

The first season is available on DVD and Blu-ray on amazon.co.uk.

  1. I liked the first series quite a bit, but with no Andrew Lincoln and Richard Armitage only seen briefly in the promo, I just don't know what to make of Season Two honestly. If Armitage is basically a hostage the entire time.... that is a serious waste of acting talent.

Season One was an action series, but it had a strong political background and conspiracy intrigue that gave the action some weight and grounded the plot.. This seems to be more pedal to the metal action from the trailer.

I Definitely don't have as high expectations with these two actors as stars compared to Lincoln and Armitage last season, but I will check it out.

  3. This combined with the second trailer (http://youtu.be/2ghk6iFdtqw) have me really psyched for the show. Heard nothing but good things about the UK version, and really interested in seeing Philip Winchester in this lead role...plus there's something about "Riot Rhythm" by Sleigh Bells (song in the 2nd trailer) that just gets me pumped!
