Fringe all the way for me... best show on TV and deserves a good day after the Emmy joke... :P
ReplyDeleteSame
ReplyDeleteHaven't watched Fringe and I'm on season 4 of Buffy which is kick ass so Buffy for me. I was vote 6 for Buffy so I guess this thing is just getting started!
ReplyDeleteI have learned not to expect shows like Fringe or Supernatural to ever get nominated for an emmy. The industry doesn't think of them as worthy of nominations. These shows truly know what is important to them and that is making good shows that the fans appreciate. That is all that matters. The award shows truly are popularity competitions to make Hollywood look good, not to please the fans.
ReplyDeleteStill I voted for Buffy.
Buffy for life!
ReplyDeleteThat's really tough... because BUFFY was my first series love ever.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do love Fringe. Both are one of the creativest series in all universes.
I love them both equally, so... I simply won't vote. :D
Buffy!
ReplyDeleteI love you Buffy but Fringe wins for me.
ReplyDeleteI love both shows but Buffy was one of the shows that had me desperate for new episodes each week. Brilliant show that I can still go back and watch now and still love!
ReplyDeleteFringe...Fringe...Fringe. Let's give Fringe some love considering the BS lack of love the Emmy's gave it.
ReplyDeleteBuffy for me cant stand fringe worst show ever but buffy rocks
ReplyDeleteI've heard that the channels can give names of their shows to be nominated, but they also something give money to the Emmy ''judges''. It wouldn't surpsie me at all since the big channel with lot of money always win everything
ReplyDeleteFringe for the whole shebang!
ReplyDeleteOf course, Fringe! Still upset for none Emmy nomination.
ReplyDeleteLove both... But i'll vote for Fringe
ReplyDelete*Sigh* Fringe. My heart hurts right now.
ReplyDeleteEven though Fringe currently is my favourite show on TV,Buffy has been my favourite for many years now and i still consider it one of the best tv shows of all time...
ReplyDeleteFringe!!! not a fan of Buffy... :)
ReplyDeleteWHAT VOTE BUFFY!

ReplyDeletemy vote this time isn't for favorite rather I just want to have Fringe up against Supernatural. I think that it would be an epic battle!
ReplyDeleteFringe, of course, it desrerves to win after its magnificent 3rd season.
ReplyDeleteLove both
ReplyDeletei Love both but go fringe
ReplyDeleteBuffy without hesitation. Buffy turned the fantasy genre into a metaphor on life and created a genre tv junkie in me. Only one thing beats Buffy in my heart and it is not Fringe.
ReplyDeleteI've learned a long time ago that what Hollywood likes and I like don't compute. I'll stick with Supernatural, thank you. I like a good story, a good laugh, fabulous acting, and getting scared and grossed out. I enjoy a cast played by men and women who actually their work and like each after six years. And, they care about their fans. They are in it because they love it. They don't mind poking at themselves. They adore them and the shore. There's no one anywhere more loyal to them then we are. We span the world, every age group and nationality. Hollywood can have it's Emmy's. The fans their own awards for the boys and the show and I've seen them.at the cons. They line the shelves in the SPN offices. I've the pictures of some of them. They are very nice.
ReplyDeleteUgh. This is the hardest one so far.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, went with Buffy, for no other reason than it was my gut instinct. Both shows are absolutely amazing and both have their flaws.
FRINGE!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI will restrain from any other comments about the Emmy's or I will ....
"WHAT VOTE BUFFY!" is officially my new slogan for the day.
ReplyDeleteSo.... you voted for Buffy?
ReplyDeleteYou just described Fringe as well :)
ReplyDeleteI voted for Buffy. I had to. It's one of my all time favorite shows. It's the first show I became passionate about. I've watched every episode multiple times. It's one of the few shows I own on DVD. Every last season. So yeah, I'd vote Buffy against any show, well, except Supernatural. But I'd feel guilty about doing so.

ReplyDeleteFringe.
ReplyDeleteEven at its best Buffy was never one of the best shows on at the time.
Fringe is.
Exactly what I was thinking... other than the 6 years comment.
ReplyDeleteOne word: ditto
ReplyDeleteBUFFY.
ReplyDeleteThe End :)
Buffy hands down. Buffy really kick started our love for supernatural shows. Without Buffy and its popularity there wouldn't be stuff like Fringe, Lost, Warehouse 13, or Supernatural! So maybe its not the greatest show but ya gotta pay respect to your roots. And no one whose seen it can deny that for all the campy-ness it had its moments of greatness.
ReplyDeleteBesides, who wants to see a Fringe vs SPN match anyways? haha
I went with Fringe. I don't know why, since I recognize it as a good show, but I never got into Buffy.
ReplyDeleteFringe; was never able to get into Buffy.
ReplyDeleteI went with Buffy.Haven't watched all seasons, but I quite enjoyed the one's I've seen..
ReplyDeleteAnd although I really wanted to,I never managed to get into Fringe..
Well said! I subscribe to everything you've written.
ReplyDeleteas i ahven't seen either of today's shows, i voted with my bracket and the show i would most like to watch which is fringe
ReplyDeleteExactly my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWow, this one's tight at the moment. Fringe for me: I've seen a few episodes of Buffy and never understood the hype, whereas Fringe hooked me as soon as I saw the Pilot. Plus it deserves the vote just for the Season 3 finale alone.
ReplyDeleteHey Adam, what's with the poll being under maintenance and not allowing people to vote or check results? Is this a PollDaddy thing?
ReplyDeleteYep, looks like polldaddy is down for maintenance at the moment.
ReplyDeleteAh friend, you are missing out. Watch season 2 of Buffy and see if you don't get sucked in. I still maintain that it was one of the best seasons on TV. Becoming was especially heart wrenching.
ReplyDeleteFixed now. :-)
ReplyDeleteI first found Buffy a couple of years after I graduated from college. I initially resisted watching it because let's face it, the movie version was cheesier than Velveeta. However, about the third episode in I wasn't watching anything else and turned to it. I'd liked supernatural books in high school so why not. I wasn't blown away, but I was interested. I went back and watched the episodes I had missed and tuned in the next week and the next. Buffy didn't wow me at first but it did entertain. By the time "Angel" aired, I was hooked on the one-liners and pop references. After "Angel", I was hooked on the characters. Then season 2 blew me out of the water and there was no going back.
ReplyDeleteIn season 1 and especially season 2, I could my own high school experience played out on screen. No I didn't hunt vampires and my field trip didn't end in mummies, but the core feelings of the high school experience were there, laid out in one big metaphor. It connected in a very big way. No matter your experience in high school, chances are Buffy touched on it at some time. Maybe it was the alienation of being new or unique. Maybe it was exerting independence when you don't think your parents have a clue. Maybe it was that boyfriend who turned into someone else after sex. Buffy's experiences were our experiences taken to a whole other level.
Season 2 of Buffy is one of the best TV seasons I have ever seen. Everything got ramped up as the characters got deeper. Then it ended with Becoming part 1 and 2, and everything changed. These are still the 2 episodes I compare all other episodes too. And still, nothing ever compares. It was the culmination of a year of build-up and it paid off beautifully. I'm not one to cry in a show but these 2 get me every time. Even now, I remember the gut sucker punch I took in the ending scenes and nothing has moved me more. People on SpoilerTV know that I support Supernatural 100%. It's my favorite show by far. Yet, even Supernatural has never kicked me so hard in the stomach that my insides turned to mush like Becoming. It's been close, but never there. If for no other reason than these two episodes, Buffy gets my vote. And that's not even counting the magnificence that was the episode "Hush". :-)
Buffy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI might give it a try once I've caught up on the TV shows I'm dedicating myself to currently! :) To be fair to Buffy, the episodes I've seen are from random seasons, so I didn't have a clue what was going on. My main problem with the show is Sarah Michelle Gellar: I don't know why, but she just rubs me up the wrong way.
ReplyDeleteBuffy, no question.
ReplyDeleteBUFFY 4 ever
ReplyDeleteWow. Two great shows. But I sort of decided to vote for Fringe all the way, so Fringe it is today.
ReplyDeleteThis is so disapointing
ReplyDeleteWell finally I see some distance and can at least breath a bit. I hope Fringe can maintain the lead until the poll ends. Come on, fringies... We still have to win this battle and then two more even harder ones lie ahead.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be sad when either one of these shows drops out. Both exquisite examples of the best of popular culture.
ReplyDeleteFringe alwaysssssssssssssssss
ReplyDeleteThe poll is cute, but very few shows stand the test of time. Buffy has.
ReplyDeleteFringe is a amazing show maybe the best current show (season 3 <3!!!) but Bffy is for me the best show that ever existed.
ReplyDeleteI mean come one loook at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIu2GPS7laY <3
ReplyDeleteThat could be happening :)
ReplyDeleteWe'll just have to wait and see what happens after S4 :)
Same for me here!
ReplyDeleteAn easy choice to make. Fringe gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. Just, yeah.
ReplyDeleteOk, can I just say how awesome the inclusion of the videos are? And how much more epically difficult it makes this particular decision?
ReplyDeleteI voted for Buffy before even watching the videos because Buffy was the first show I really fell in love with. Plus, it's complete, so there's more of an overall picture to get from it. Maybe in a few years when Fringe ends it will surpass Buffy for me, but not yet.
Anyway, then I watched the Fringe video and started regretting my vote. But then I watched the Buffy video and I felt better :P
Such an impossible decision, but in the end I'm happy with my vote. Not that it matters as it looks as if Fringe is going to win.
Voted for Buffy. I enjoy Fringe, and the finale kicked ass, but Buffy was an obsession.
ReplyDeleteFRINGE.
ReplyDeleteI've seen both and although Buffy was decent Fringe is just a better show, IMO.
Really loved Season 2 of Fringe, but it's still got a long way to go to ever truly displace Buffy as face as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said. I do like Fringe, but Buffy was just genius. Season Two may have been the best season of TV I've seen.
ReplyDeleteWithout Buffy, I'd never have given Supernatural a chance, and that paid off too :P
He's so right. Season 2 of Buffy was absolutely stunning. I admit the first season of Buffy is very camp and difficult to get into, but Season 2 (similar to Fringe) raises the bar sky-high.
ReplyDeleteSame with me. Buffy lead me to so many great shows.
ReplyDeleteBuffy is one of my favorite series ever. I just never thought and still don't think its one of the best series ever.
ReplyDeletePart of the reason it's one of my favorites is that I can overlook its faults and weaknesses because I actually enjoy them. That fact does not mean they do not exist.
Really? I'd consider several Buffy episodes among the best episodes of television that I've ever seen, and this is coming from someone who's watched a ridiculous amount of shows. Granted it has its flaws, but so does pretty much ever series.
ReplyDeleteHmm.
ReplyDeleteOh it had some awesome episodes. It's not a question if it was a good series or had brilliant moments to me. It did.
ReplyDeleteThis vote was just one of those "best" versus "favorite" things for me. Had the poll asked my favorite I may have voted Buffy, but since it was Best, I went with FRINGE.
I think Whedon is awesome at writing conversationally, but his arcs get sloppy and predictable. I think Fringe is consistently stronger as far as overall writing and acting for that matter. Buffy had some incredible moments and some great episodes that required some serious heavy dramatic acting, but most of the episodes were light acting to me. Where their is more serious heavy lifting to be done in the typical FRINGE episode.
I liked their over-the-top-ness in the first season before they found their stride... and don't get me started on Michelle Trachtenberg lowering the entire acting curve of every episode she was in.
Any picked nits I have still don't exclude BTVS from being one of my 4 or 5 favorites series ever, but I don't think it's anywhere the top 10 of the best series I have watched.
Very disappointed about Buffy but at least my bracket is in tact on that side. That's the advantage of voting/campaigning with your heart and predicting with your head. At least one part wins.
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBuffy put up a good fight! Well she always does :P pretty good to make it so far for a show thats been over for almost 8 years.
ReplyDeleteExactly how I feel. The only show that beats Buffy for me, is Supernatural <3
ReplyDeleteToo bad Buffy lost this fight..
the poll says the opposite
ReplyDeleteThe poll doesn't dictate how someone feels.
ReplyDeleteI still disagree, but personal opinions, etc etc.
ReplyDeleteFaults and all, Buffy revolutionised television and women in television. While there may have been awful episodes here and there, I wouldn't compare it to the awfulness of Fringe Season 1 and part of Season 2 (I freakin love Fringe but, like you, recognise the massive flaws).
Buffy Season 2 and 3 were among the finest of television ever produced.
Buffy also helped change horror movies. She wasn't the first or the last but watching the little blonde cheerleader kick monster butt killed off the assumption that the blonde was going to bite it right from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteAnd that was the whole premise that the started the movie/show. To craft such an amazing legacy from that simple idea is pretty damn amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm disappointed too. Buffy is definitely the better of the two shows. What's the bet that half the Fringe voters haven't even seen more than a couple of episodes of Buffy?
ReplyDeletein the friendliest of tone :)
ReplyDeletePlease don't make assumptions. I have seen all of Buffy. And yet, Fringe is better. That is my personal opinion and everyone is allowed to have that. I've voted for Buffy in all the race until it came to this one.
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound harsh. And I'm not saying that about everyone who voted for it. Just going by comments in this and previous polls, where people haven't seen one of the shows so just vote for the one they have seen. Out of curiosity, why would you say Fringe is better?
ReplyDeleteI think Fringe is better (my personal opinion) because it is so close to Reality. The science they use is based on actual facts. There are high school lesson plans out there based on Fringe science. The characters are very believable. Olivia isn't wearing high heels to work, heck sometimes she really looks like she's been up all night. And she doesn't understand everything and asks the questions for us. The relationships between the three of them feel real with all the problems and stuff. And yes, I like Peter too. The special effects and props are movie worthy. There are so many layers to just one episode that you can't even take one episode, they all are connected. You have to look at it as a whole. Fringe makes me think (which I like), Buffy was just there for enjoyment. There are so many things in there, hidden clues, the observers that I'm still finding things even after watching each episode I don't know how many times. The music is awesome. I listen to the sound tracks all the time. The writing and directing is phenomenal. The acting is outstanding, it feels natural. Anna has an exceptional ability to speak with her face, she doesn't have to say anything. And I don't have enough space to talk about John Noble. One of the cool things for me is also that the lines from Fringe work in real life :), there not pulled out of a hat or sound soap opery or stuck up or fake.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say (for me, my opinion) I never got that from Buffy.
i've read some in these comments that they have never watched it,so i guess thats why. but still, for me,for a show to compete this close even after years of being off the air against something that still airs,it means Buffy is EPIC! Legendary! (and now,the epicness will get hurt because of the whedonless buffy reboot--damn!)
ReplyDeleteI'm such a Fringie I surprised myself by being conflicted here, and ultimately voted for Buffy. I note that my preferences have been for the classics all along the way. Glad Fringe is in play, sorry Buffy is gone, but through all this the good thing is that people have been encouraged to take a look at Buffy.
ReplyDeleteThe two shows have more in common than you'd think. For starters, there's the MOTW. Then there are the switched identities that keep coming up. Both feature female leads who are somehow specially empowered, whether supernaturally or by scientific experimentation. They each have their "Scoobies," guided by a goofy but wise older man who seems to know everything about the strange happenings (Giles/Walter). The writing for Buffy was obviously geared for a young adult viewership, each week a sort of morality play, whereas Fringe is sophisticated and more mythological and scientific.
Two excellent TV shows.
I've only seen a little of Fringe, but I wonder if there is a generational thing here. Those of us that followed Buffy from week to week would probably choose that, simply because so many of the things that were featured there are replayed in other series. For instance, I really like Supernatural... I do, and have watched every episode at least twice and it is on my 'must buy when I have extra funds to spend' list: But. I see a lot of storylines being repeated that Buffy covered.
ReplyDeleteYet, I see a lot of comments in the Supernatural fandom who are shocked by story twists that strike me as, 'wait this was done by Joss'. I wonder if I asked the generation before me, if they'd say the same thing... "You think BTVS was original, Bah! I remember this exact story playing out in 'yadda-yadda' episode of 'blah-blah' series!"
I can't believe, Buffy lost.
ReplyDeleteBuffy may owe something to Bewitched, and maybe X-Files, but the show did forge a path of its own.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see how the generational thing plays out on this site. There was a poll here once that asked, "What were your favorite shows growing up?" and that was enlightening. Answers were anywhere from I Love Lucy to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Can I just thank you for that very detailed and interesting response? :) I think you've persuaded me to give Fringe another chance!
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome :)
ReplyDeleteUgh. This is the hardest one so far.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, went with Buffy, for no other reason than it was my gut instinct. Both shows are absolutely amazing and both have their flaws.
