Spoiler TV: The Best TV Show Competition 2011 - Day 30 - Quarter Final 2 - NCIS vs. The Vampire Diaries
14 Jul 2011
NCIS SpoilerTV Article TV Show Comp Vampire DiariesHey Guys,
Yesterday was a walkover... Supernatural showed exactly what it is capable of doing, and that is absolutely eliminating any show that crosses its path. A huge 3,500+ votes saw it take 70% of the votes against a beleaguered Chuck whose fans should still exit the competition with a sense of achievement. Can anything stop Supernatural's collision course with a second title in a row? Their next opponent will be the winner of todays Semi-Final...
In the second of our Semi-Finals we have NCIS which for the second year in a row has exceeded its expectations and secured a second trip into the top ten positions of the competition. It's rival is last years runner up, The Vampire Diaries as it aims to meet its old foe Supernatural in the next round and redeem itself after a poor loss in the finals...
The rules for, for anyone new to the competition are very simple. There will be new sets of shows against each other every day in a new set of polls... simply vote for your favourite and the show with the most votes will win that days poll and head into the next round.
Don't forget to spread the word, and tweet out the competition to friends as well as facebook liking the post...
Also if you are taking part in the prediction competition, don't forget to follow your scores HERE Long time leader Sergey Sevostianov leads by nine points once again with long time rival Dahne maintaining second with Yvonne Damon on 79 points to Sergey's 88... I haven't mentioned how well I've been doing in the competition so far, but I've snuck up into 7th place on 76 points and keeping myself in the hunt!
All that's left to say, is good luck to every show...
... and let the battles begin!

ReplyDeleteGood luck to both shows... I don't watch either so I'm not voting :P
NCIS! one of the best spin offs on air.. in my opinion it far surpasses JAG.
ReplyDeleteVampire Diaries. I've watched NCIS a few times and have never liked it.
ReplyDeleteTVD.Never liked NCIS.
ReplyDeleteThe Vampire Diaries!
ReplyDeleteI like NCIS alright, but honestly while I wouldn't want TVD to go any further really, I like it better, so that's my vote I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI'm not voting too.
ReplyDeleteToday NCIS for me.
ReplyDeleteTVD all the way! The penultimate episode was amazing. I've only seen one episode of NCIS. And that's because Misha Collins was in it XD (You guys when you steal an SUV make sure there's no kidnapped woman in the back.)
ReplyDeleteTVD, hands down.
ReplyDeleteI know it will take a miracle, but NCIS for the win. Abby Sciuto is one of my favorite characters and the show works well as an ensemble.
ReplyDeleteNCI, because I'm tired of these fraking Vampire shows.
ReplyDeleteNCIS all the way for me, no competition. Though if by some miracle it does make it through this quarter final, I'm afraid I shall abandon it for Supernatural. :)
ReplyDeleteAt first, this seems like a tough decision for me. But then again it's not at all.
ReplyDeleteVoted for The Vampire Diaries, 'cause it's thanks to that show that I got this interested in US shows like that again. I'd probably not watch anything on a regular basis again today if I hasn't started watching TVD 1 1/2 years ago (which is when it started airing in Germany). Yes, NCIS might seem like the better produced show, but then again it's two completely different genres you can't really compare, imo. So I admit, there's an emotional factor adding to my decision, but well. I can't help it.
Even if it loses, I'm happy NCIS got this far.
ReplyDeleteThe Vampire Diaries for the win!
ReplyDeleteNCIS! NCIS is one of my favorite shows <3.
ReplyDeleteNCIS - I've watched it right from the start - ok not religiously, but it is unusual for me not to get completely bored with a show after the first couple of seasons.
ReplyDeleteI watched VD for the first season, but I gave up half way through the second when it became clear to me that it's based on yet another romantic triangle which will never be resolved. Yes I know there's all the other stuff going on, but I just found myself getting frustrated with the triangle thing. Sorry but that's the biggest turn off for me when it comes to tv shows.
The fact that one of the highest rated tv shows is losing to TVD tells me who pays attention to this site.
ReplyDeleteI guess that means me! Because TVD rocks!
ReplyDeleteThis site does tend to have more genre TV fans than mainstream. However, if you reach out to the NCIS fanbase through the contest maybe NCIS will have a stronger base here. Supernatural did not have near the support on this website before the Best Show contest last year. Now it is one of the biggest fandoms on SpoilerTV. This contest is a great way to get new people to SpoilerTV and you never know what will happen because of it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. The love triangle and teen angst killed my interest for Vampire Diaries. I liked the books as a teen but now I find it grating. I know that VD goes well beyond "Dawson's Creek with fangs and fur" but for me, I can't get around the angsty relationship drag.
ReplyDeleteNot watching NCIS any more, watching TVD, and still claiming NCIS is way better. TVD is good, but pretty shallow, and in NCIS, even though it's classic procedural we have so much cast chemistry and great background stories!
ReplyDeleteTVD, this show is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteNCIS
ReplyDeleteNCIS have 2 win 100times better than VD (I do watch the show)
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the reasons why we do it :)
ReplyDeleteNCIS has done great on this competition both years now so it clearly does have some of a fan-base. Admittedly it's had an easier route than say LOST, X-Files etc etc but it's also beaten some tough opposition!
NCIS for me, of course!!!!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteCome ON! NCIS is SOOOOOO much better than that melodramatic 'tween Vampire Diaries...
ReplyDeleteWell, I love I do VD and I'm sorry to say this, my dear friends, but this will my last vote last vote for them in this contest. I am first and foremost a Supernatural fan. so with my last vote I bid you farewell, and I will see you on the other side. Good luck in this win. I know you will. You have the better show. Damon is so hot.
ReplyDeleteVampire Diaries all the way!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way! I love VD but I can never vote against Supernatural. I think we are all under a spell that prevents us from voting against it.
ReplyDeleteUnless TVD can produce a lot more voters than its shown so far, it will tank against Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteNCIS.
ReplyDeleteIf TVD had a few more seasons of consistent, creative success under its belt I would've voted differently.
this was tough I love both shows but I voted TVD for the points figured it was going to beat out NCIS
ReplyDeleteAmen.
ReplyDeleteSo, what's with the lack of voting?
ReplyDeleteBy this time yesterday there was like 3 times as many votes...
I would say it's because fewer people care about the results of this contest, but that would be snarky.
ReplyDeleteIt's simple. The contest doesn't have two huge sets of passionate fans in touch with social media.
ReplyDeleteVampire Diaries does, NCIS doesn't to the same level. VD will perform much better against Supernatural but that will probably still not be enough!
Fringe vs. Buffy should be great!
I think the comments tomorrow will really set it apart. People are passionate on both sides so I hope to get some of the discussion that made last year's contest so much fun. Hopefully people will explain why they like each show instead of just saying which one they picked. It's more fun that way.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame X-Files and LOST had earlier exits than last year. The fans of both are very vocal and full of things to discuss about the shows :P
ReplyDeleteVery true. I'm tempted to start making up things just to get a reaction. 13 hours to go and it's pretty much stalled. Oh well. I guess I'll post an ode to Abby. She really is a fascinating character.
ReplyDeleteWe all know better than to get on the bad side of the Winchesters ;-)
ReplyDeleteFew things make me loose interest in a show faster than crazy relationship drama... How can I feel compassion for people that are acting so poorly? So often those shows just glamorize very self-destructive behavior.
ReplyDeleteas much as i loved NCIS, my vote had to go to vampire diaries but both are awesome shows that i love
ReplyDeleteNot like NCIS will fair much better. I mean Chuck has a very large and devoted fanbase online as proof by the TV Guide cover contest but SPN still blew it away. TVD might fare a bit better but probably not by much. Also i suspect the reason for the huge turnout last round by SPN voters was the fear that Chuck fans would rally and kick us out. There's a huge amount of rivalry between SPN and Chuck fandoms (usually friendly rivalry but sometimes very heated). Another point of interest will be if SPN faces Fringe in the final because that's another rival fandom since they air at the same time on Fridays.
ReplyDeleteSince the comments have stalled, here's my Abby lovefest.
ReplyDeleteAbby Sciuto may be my favorite female character on a current show. I love that she is extraordinarily smart but unlike Temperance Brennan on Bones, she has good people skills too. Abby is the heart of NCIS and in my opinion, she makes all the other characters better. I know it is sacrilege in the NCIS world, but I could not stand Gibbs the first 3 episodes I saw. In fact, I was forced to watch the show because I was visiting friends on a naval base. It didn't help that I had just quit my job because of a bad boss. I found both my ex-boss and Gibbs to be similar and therefore intolerable. I put NCIS in my never again column. Then it started airing on USA in marathons. One day I was bored and flipped channel over to it. It was the episode where Abby has a stalker and Gibbs is trying to protect her. I liked how protective Gibbs was in the beginning scenes, but when he got into that elevator and swore he was there for Abby, my heart melted. I realized I had misjudged the man. Gibbs is still not my favorite character but he was humanized for me by his relationship with Abby and I started watching the show from that moment on.
Abby didn't just influence how I saw Gibbs, but she also ungeeked McGee. Now I'm not saying he isn't still the biggest geek on the show and I don't think there is anything wrong with geekiness, but without Abby and he getting together I wouldn't have gotten beyond that. She turned Tony from a one-note womanizer to a deeply loyal friend in my eyes, and unstuck Kate from being an unlikeable priss to the secret bad girl who knew how to rock her wild side. Now I'm not saying that these characters aren't phenomenal in their own right. They are. It's just that I first saw their depth in their relationship with Abby. Now I appreciate them all for who they are with or without Abby. It seems like every character blossoms under Abby's touch.
Beyond her people skills, Abby is the forensics specialist I want if I'm ever murdered. The Jeffersonian crew is fantastic, but Abby does so much with so little. She's tenacious and intuitive and she demands only the best from herself. No murder is going unpunished if Abby is on the case. I love how they show that smart isn't in how you dress or your music preferences or your caffeine addiction. Abby is the embodiment of intelligence.
The simple fact is that without Abby I would never have enjoyed NCIS. She brought me in and she's still the character I most want to see on the NCIS screen. Long live Abby Sciuto! She brings out the best in everyone.
And its stuff like this that proves that once TVD goes against SPN its numbers will probably be close to halved and SPN will take it easily. So they'll probably be no possibility for surprises until perhaps the final at this point.
ReplyDeletei completely agree with everything you've said here about abby
ReplyDeleteshe is by far the best character on the show
reading this made me realise just how much i love NCIS and i miss it
maybe now i'm gonna go watch all my old seasons again and then move into season 8
Absolutely! The Supernatural fandom largely slept through the beginning rounds, but mention Supernatural, Chuck, and a poll and things pick up quickly. Fridays should be fun with Chuck, Fringe, and Supernatural all on the same night even if Chuck is an hour earlier.
ReplyDeleteI would expect heavier competition from VD next round because there is history between VD and Supernatural too so there are fans with something to prove. VD has the capability to move quickly on the internet also (unlike NCIS I guess) and posting the contest in some places like the CW lounge actually advertises to both large fanbases. It should be an interesting contest but for all you VD fans out there, please, please comment next round. It's so much more fun when people comment.
I think the way I divided the shows this year had good points and bad points...
ReplyDeleteStill want to think about ways to make it better next year though as well :D
TVD will get more votes than it has today. It'll still lose though... :P
ReplyDeleteDon't sell VD short. They have the ability to get information passed quickly through the internet. Before this last round, more people voted for VD (3,890) than SPN (3,816). In fact, before Buffy's last round (and of course SPN yesterday), no one had more votes in a single round than VD did, twice. Fans rally when they have to. They don't have to in this round. The next one will be different.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem at all in how the shows were divided. I think you did a great job. It all depends on what gets voted through and how passionately the fans comment on their shows. You have no say over that.
ReplyDeleteI know some people think that it should be divided between current shows and ones not on the air, but my guess is those are people whose favorite shows did not make it. The simple fact that Buffy, Angel, and Firefly made it so far shows that it's about the show more than the air date. Yes, current shows have an advantage but apparently not as big of one as people seem to think.
Just curious - when the character cup begins are you going to divide male and female or are they all going to be in together?
ReplyDeleteNCIS. Because my dad likes it (me too, on occasion), and it can use the vote. :)
ReplyDeleteSigh, I want to comment (and I did vote) but I really have nothing to say. I haven't watched one episode of NCIS (not a procedural fan.) I watched a season and half of VD and it really didn't grab me. It's too bad too because I so desperately wanted to love it, to fill the void I was feeling during Supernatural's hiatus. But the show let me down. The writing was just so bad. It was as if the writers didn't know where to take the story. There was no coherent arc and the story was simply a vehicle for the characters to hook up and break up. I know it's a show geared towards the teenage demographic who mostly care about dating and parties but they could at least stick to a simple script and stop throwing random plot points all over the place. When I stopped watching (mid season two Christmas hiatus,) I wasn't sure what the cliffhanger was, or what I should look forward to when the show came back. So I didn't bother catching the rest. I'm sure it's a lovely show and that's why it's the highest rated show on the CW. It's just not my cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteSorry I know we are supposed to praise the shows in the competition not criticize them. It's just every time I see The Vampire Diaries I'm reminded how much I wanted to be a fan and how it let me down.
Well said. I gave VD a one season shot and I was disappointed to. My biggest problems were that I didn't like the lead characters, I loathe romantic triangles (or other love geometry), and I'm not a big fan of angst. I already work with teens and watching all that melodrama frustrates me. It's simply not my genre. I did like Caroline though and Matt.
ReplyDeleteI dont watch NCIS, so voted for TVD...
ReplyDeleteThe Vampire Diaries for me, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI don't really think it's good enough to be at this stage (I do enjoy it, however), though I think it's better than NCIS, which I think could send a corpse to sleep.
I think I tend to dislike most of the series leads in a lot of TV Shows.
ReplyDeleteI watch TVD for the twists... but mostly for Caroline. I love how her character progressed and think she's had some of the best development in most tv shows.
I completely agree with what you said about NCIS, I merely talked about TVD because it looked fairly certain to win, so the number of voters NCIS has is a moot point. I would love to see a Supernatural/Fringe final, I think it would be a great contest.
ReplyDeleteNCIS! Of course!
ReplyDeleteI think it's loosing because sadly too many people who are not involved in the web are watching it, otheriwse it would win this competition ;) but that is fine, may the greatest win!!!
I enjoy them both, but the one I watch regularly(most of the time)is The Vampire Diaries,so it gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteI like NCIS too,but it's one of the shows I usually catch up with during the summer. For some reason, the only show from this genre I could follow weekly was Numb3rs(and White Collar, but that's a little different).
Also,I expected a better performance from VD.I don't think it's gonna have a chance in the next round if it doesn't do much better..Well,to be honest, even if it does,I don't think much is gonna change..So,Supernatural vs Fringe in the final??It's gonna be interesting..I'm betting there are a lot of people who love them both..
Not sure yet... More thank likely divided for just round one...
ReplyDeleteMan, I wish today and yesterday's rounds had been switched. This one was anticlimactic and I was home all day. Today's should be exciting and I'm gone for a Harry Potter marathon. Rotten timing.
ReplyDelete
