I've tried to include a few older and newer shows because it was hard to choose from so many families. So I left you the option to enter your own favorite if it's not in the poll and gave you two votes.
1) The Seavers - Growing Pains 2) The Winchesters - SPN 3) The Scoobys - BTVS 4) The Micelli/Bowers - Who's The Boss? 5) The Dunphys/Pritchetts - Modern Family 6) Carter/Blakes - Eureka 7) The Formans/Hyde/Fez/Burkhart/Kelso - That '70s Show 8) The characters on HIMYM 9) The characters on Friends 10) The characters on Malcolm In The Middle
The Winchesters. Even though they can be said to be the most dysfunctional family (dead mother, absent father, etc.), they show the real meaning of family: they are always there to hold each others' backs and are willing to sacrifice whatever it takes for their loved ones.
I was thinking the same, they died for eachother literally, several times. They had ups and downs and still look out for one another. How much closer can it get?
The Winchesters got my vote, along with the Burkes from White Collar: it's so nice to see a functional married relationship on TV, I hope they never change.
Well, the Winchesters were a given for me on that list. Other favourite families would be;
The Eppes' (Numb3rs)The Keatons (Family Ties) The Burrows/Scofield brothers (Prison Break) The Cranes (Frasier) The Gilmores (Gilmore Girls) The Halliwells with Prue not the other one (Charmed)
And honorable mention to the Gibbs' (NCIS) simply because I love Papa Gibbs
Of course I voted for the Winchesters. They're badass, have been through things most ppl couldn't even imagine, and still remain strong (not to mention theyre really really really hot lol). I also voted for the Bluths. They are such an entertaining dysfunctional family
I went for Simpsons and added Chances from Raising Hope.
I might have also added - Ewings (Dallas) - Rushes (Too Close for Comfort) - Keatings (Family Ties) - Drummonds (Diff'rent Strokes) - Bunkers (All in the Family) - Bradfords (Eight is Enough) and my first - Cunninghams (Happy Days)
In the Winchester family each member is ready to die for the other and this was true from the start even when they didn't know they could be resurrected or rescued from Hell. This self-sacrificing example has also spread to those around them like Bobby, Jo, Ellen etc, etc. No other family could ever be more loving and supportive than the Winchesters. I must add that they also die so beautifully!!!
I voted for the Bundys and the Simpsons. I love The Starks and the Winchesters too, but the Simpsons are on for so many years and have become a constant to go to when in need of a laugh. As a Smallville fan, the Kents would also be on my list, along with the Bishops from Fringe (gotta love the Peter/ Walter father/son relationship) and the Gilmores (I miss Gilmore Girls).
The Cosbys The Sopranos The Cleavers The Humes (Desmond, Penny, little Charlie) The Chances (Raising Hope) The Summers (Buffy, Joyce, and yes, Dawn) The Bishops (Peter and Walter) The Taylors The Bunkers
NON CANON Buffy's Scooby Gang Friends
Our family used to gather around the TV to watch the Cosbys. Such good values. The Sopranos, not such good values, but what a terrific show.
It sounds pretty silly to pick the Winchesters because they are such a dysfunctional family, but I can't get enough. I want to know everything about them all of the time.
However, for a family that I wish I was a part of, I would probably pick the Cosby's.... They always seemed to have the perfect family to me.
Another Family that I enjoy watching because they are kind of a fun train wreck is the Dunphys (what kind of name is that) from Modern Family... They are hilarious.
Totally agree. Peter and Elizabeth have a strong relationship by each of them being strong but supportive people. I wish more TV marriages emulated theirs. I'm tired of watching couples who constantly put each other down.
These are the two I chose also and they could not be more different from each other. Growing up the Cosby's represented the ideal TV family for me. Warm, supportive, funny, and everything was resolved at the end of the show. They were the impossible dream I loved to watch. Now my ideal TV family includes issues that can never be resolved, demon fighting and hell, but they are still the most supportive family around. When Dean gives his blank slate speech over Rufus' grave, it reminded why I love the Winchester clan (Dean, Sam, Bobby) and just how strong they are when they stick together.
For real, they're the best! It really doesn't matter anyway, this place is overrun by Supernatural fans. Polls are pointless here now, nothing stands a legitimate chance. lol
I agree! I have seen many similarities between both families and mine. We watched the Cosby Show growing up & loved how closely their ideals & relationships mirrored our own (Dad was even a doctor LOL). For my father, family was everything... which is a big part of why I love the Winchesters. Family doesn't end in blood, and their loyalty and ability to forgive is truly amazing.
This question is evil. How in the world am I supposed to choose just one? So, in protest, I chose "other" and voted in what is probably the worst TV family of all - Frank, Dee, and Dennis Reynolds from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
This poll gets a fork-stabbing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENFGKw6YWb4
The Winchesters obviously - and that includes Bobby Singer. While the Winchesters are way more dysfunctional than the average family, at least the issues they have are plain to see, and, as is the case with the majority of families, those issues are never dealt with in a 'healthy' manner. Of course the 'Winchester Way', does embrace standard coping techniques like lying, avoidance, repression and misuse of alcohol, it also includes drinking demon blood, soul trading and complete and utter loyalty. They will (and have) died for each other - something most average families never have to even think about.
I also voted for the Burkes (White Collar) - as others have said, it's great to see a tv couple who actually seem to like and trust each other.
There has never been a family on television that has done as much for each other as Sam and Dean Winchester have done for each other. None. The love and sacrifice is incomparable. That is one thing the show has for its fans. When said to Sam and Bobby all slates are wiped clean. No fault is held against anyone. He meant it. No one dies being blamed for anything,. That's love, forgiveness, and real mercy. You don't find that.
You are so right. You people complain and say it's fair that Supernatural wins and the fans out vote them. I won't apologize for a show that is good, that teaches family values that are important like loyalty, forgiveness, and sacrifice. What those who have not followed the brothers, Bobby, and Castiel do not understand is that many of us have had things our lives changed for the better because of this show the characters and actors in it. Some of us actually owe our lives to them. It is more than a television show to us. We are more than loyal. It's Jensen said, when the show is over, no where they all end up, they are taking us with them. You know what? We're going.
I was lucky enough to go to Comic Con and Jared's NerdHQ panel, one of my favorite things was when Jared was talking about how the show's creator, writers, and actors refer to the fans. To them, we are the "Supernatural Family," I think that just says it all!
I love the Winchesters but even if Mary had lived, I'm not sure they would be the perfect family. After all, John walked out on his wife and 4 year old son before she died. Apparently it was a regular enough occurrence that little Dean knew to comfort his mom.
The Eppes family is one of my favorites also. I loved how the brothers were so different and yet did anything the other one needed. Alan did an excellent job of keeping them all together in times of stress too. He really understood his sons and helped them to understand each other. In the end I guess I'm just a sucker for brother shows.
The Chances are one of my favorite TV families too. They show that you don't need to have money or brains to show love. Plus they are the funniest family on TV.
I was going to vote for the Summers but that includes Dawn and I just couldn't do it. Now if it were the original Scoobies, they'd have my vote no question.
Let's hope the lying and secrets are on their way out. I like the open and honest version of family better. Still, it's probably a good thing a demon or monster is going to take them out in the end. Otherwise, it's liver transplants all around and I don't think they have a high enough limit on those fake credit cards.
The Winchesters, not only because the two brothers are family but because they have adopted others along the way like Bobby and Castiel, Jo and Ellen. Despite the tragic childhood they endured, simply by example they demonstrate the unbreakable bonds that love can build between siblings, parent (or surrogate parent) and child and all those invited into the circle of the family. This example has been contagious and extends to the cast and crew, who even refer to the fans as family. The feeling is certainly mutual. It's a word that comes up over and over again when people talk about what they love about Supernatural, the way the show portrays family. I wrote in my second choice, The Halliwells. Just as the Winchesters demonstrate brotherhood, I think they really showed a wonderful face of sisterhood.
And there's something about having this family who puts family first in such a big way that's absolutely heartwarming (and on SPN often heartbreaking). Obviously that comes out a lot more in Supernatural because of the things Dean, Sam and John get exposed to. But in Prison Break Michael first reacts with deep disappointment when he thinks Linc's guilty, then immediately goes all in when he finds out he's not. Great concept for a show, but how many brothers would react like that.
The Keatons on Family ties sort of reminds me of the feeling I get from watching the Eppes' interact on Numb3rs, and although it's a comedy I get a little of it from watching the Cranes on Frasier. No one riles Niles more than Frasier and vice versa, but how many times have the brothers come together because an outsider attacked one of them?
I went with the Winchesters (Sam, Dean, John and Mary)-they're dysfunctional as hell but I have never doubted any of them would lay their lives down to save one of their own. This is truly a family who love each other despite their differences, disarrangements and against all odds.
Was there a Rumsfeld? I didn't know that. I was thinking of the dog in Dark Side of the Moon that Sam had when he ran away, but if there were any other pets, they're included too of course.
Love me the Winchesters (and in Winchester Brothers) but I hate John so I went with Summers women. All three of them were/are awesome (even if Dawn has her whiny phases)
None of the above. Definitely the Gilmores from Gilmore Girls for me. I can't even explain why. I love the show. It's definitely one of my faves, but also definitely not one of my top fave shows. Yet, when having to vote for my favorite family, they own my heart.
Also, I'm surprised 7th heaven isn't on there. Not that I'd vote for them, but I kinda grew up with that show and they always seemed the definition of normal (well, "normal") family to me. I figured they'd at least be a part of the poll *g*
A family that die constantly for each other and a family that does everything to bring them back. Winchesters are a family that will be together for ever.
Do Sam and Dean count as a family? cause honestly, John wasn't exactly the father of the year and I never actually cared for Mary (although I did like the twist with her being a hunter). But the Winchesters are definitely the best brothers ever! (even if I really loved Nathan and Lucas back when OTH was a good show)
Other than that, I really love the Starks. They have strong family bonds and it's awesome, even if some of their relations are complicated and some of them have their flaws. And yes, I do consider Jon Snow a Stark.
But the name of the family of The Cosby Show was the Huxtables. Loved them. Cliff and Claire were wonderful parents, handling perfectly their children, even if their life motto was to get rid of all the kids off the house ;P Also loved the Gilmores from Gilmore Girls (well, more like I loved Lorelai and Emily). And the Tanners from Full House (the first show I've ever watched, probably as a toddler :P).
I keep typing the Warehouse 13 family into "Other". Related or not, they are a family. Also, while I'm glad the Winchesters are winning, how do the Bluths only have 77 votes?
I didn't include any "friends of family" or "considered family" types - only biological or legal families... The other are just people that live together... if that.
Sitcoms: 1. The Bluths from Arrested Development 2. The Botwins from Weeds 3. The Tolchuks from Aliens in America 4. The Harpers from Two and a Half Men 5. The Keatons from Family Ties
One-Hour Series: 1. The Tragers from Kyle XY 2. The Bennetts from Justified 3. The Reagans from Blue Bloods 4. .The Tellers from Sons of Anarchy 5. The Morgans from Dexter
Honorable mention to The Mars from Veronica Mars, but I did not include any duos. (I know Lianne was in 6 or 7 episodes, but she was so minor I could not count her.) and The Starks from Game of Thrones. I just don't have the same feeling about them as a family as I do the others. However the bond is strong and as original literary figures they are awesome! and The Evans from Good Times. They were such a breakthrough moment in TV... Plus they were real without being overly sensitive or preachy. Hard to do on a show with a message.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
The Simpsons
ReplyDeleteHere are mine in no order!
ReplyDelete1) The Seavers - Growing Pains
2) The Winchesters - SPN
3) The Scoobys - BTVS
4) The Micelli/Bowers - Who's The Boss?
5) The Dunphys/Pritchetts - Modern Family
6) Carter/Blakes - Eureka
7) The Formans/Hyde/Fez/Burkhart/Kelso - That '70s Show
8) The characters on HIMYM
9) The characters on Friends
10) The characters on Malcolm In The Middle
And that's all I can remember right now.
Thw Winchesters always and forever :)
ReplyDeleteThe Starks, they are just very close, you can feel the love between all them and you know they'll do wathever it takes to protect each other.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Winchesters, Dean and Sam are the best brothers ever and if Mary hadn't died so soon, they would have made a perfect family.
Starks!!! and I put Castles in the "other" love them 3! (Richard, Alexis and Martha)
ReplyDeleteStarks and Dunphys for me
ReplyDeleteWhat a great poll! This will take some hard thinking. I'll be back later.
ReplyDeleteThe Winchesters. Even though they can be said to be the most dysfunctional family (dead mother, absent father, etc.), they show the real meaning of family: they are always there to hold each others' backs and are willing to sacrifice whatever it takes for their loved ones.
ReplyDeleteWINCHESTERRRRRRRRRRRRS! Forever! They are the only brothers in the world who've gone to hell and died for one another.
ReplyDeleteThe Taylors!!! -Friday Night Lights.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe they didn't make the list.
I was thinking the same, they died for eachother literally, several times. They had ups and downs and still look out for one another. How much closer can it get?
ReplyDeleteCastle and Gilmore familes, so much love even with absent father or mother.
ReplyDeleteThe Starks and The Westens ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Winchesters got my vote, along with the Burkes from White Collar: it's so nice to see a functional married relationship on TV, I hope they never change.
ReplyDeleteStarks (Game of Thrones) and Winchesters (Supernatural)
ReplyDeleteThe Winchesters , of course !!!
ReplyDeleteWent for the Winchesters as Jared P and Jensen A have a great chemistry together.
ReplyDeleteBut the ultimate TV family and my other vote was The Simpsons. Definitive TV family in my opinion.
Well, the Winchesters were a given for me on that list.
ReplyDeleteOther favourite families would be;
The Eppes' (Numb3rs)The Keatons (Family Ties)
The Burrows/Scofield brothers (Prison Break)
The Cranes (Frasier)
The Gilmores (Gilmore Girls)
The Halliwells with Prue not the other one (Charmed)
And honorable mention to the Gibbs' (NCIS) simply because I love Papa Gibbs
The Winchesters of course, they have suffered more than any family on tv, and have each others back no matter what.... and look damn good doing it!
ReplyDeleteOf course I voted for the Winchesters. They're badass, have been through things most ppl couldn't even imagine, and still remain strong (not to mention theyre really really really hot lol). I also voted for the Bluths. They are such an entertaining dysfunctional family
ReplyDeleteI have to choose the Taylors. Hands down.
ReplyDeleteI went for Simpsons and added Chances from Raising Hope.

I must add that they also die so beautifully!!!
More people need to watch Arrested Development... its so good!
ReplyDeleteThe Starks and the Westens for me, but they are all pretty epic.
ReplyDeleteI'm more interested in who comes second than first on here tbh ;)
The Starks and the Simpsons.
ReplyDeleteThe Winchesters - Dean, Sam, John, Mary, the Impala, Bones the dog, Uncle Bobby, and Cas - the odd foreign exchange student.
ReplyDeleteThe Winchesters and the Starks, of course.
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise, Supernatural wins...
ReplyDeleteFor me Its the Winchester Bros all the way but I love the Starks too, Ned and Arya are my favorites from Game of Thrones!
ReplyDeleteTherefore who comes second is the winner in my mind, lol
ReplyDeleteThe Winchesters and the Cosbys :D No matter how old I am I will always love the Cosby Show :) And I will always love The Winchesters no matter what :)
ReplyDeleteI voted for the Bundys and the Simpsons.

ReplyDeleteWestens and Starks.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Starks and Bluths.
ReplyDeleteA family that sings Afternoon Delight together stays together....
The Winchesters of course ;) second place would be Buffy, because she made her friends her family!
ReplyDeleteFor real, they're the best! It really doesn't matter anyway, this place is overrun by Supernatural fans. Polls are pointless here now, nothing stands a legitimate chance. lol
ReplyDelete1. Winchesters
ReplyDelete2. Summers
3. Carter/Blakes
So many to choose from of course the Cosby Show, Family Matters, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Good Times!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAlways and forever the WINCHESTERS <3
ReplyDeleteDon't let all the monsters fool you, Supernatural is all about family! Sam, Dean, and Bobby get my vote! Winchesters for the win :-D
ReplyDeleteI love them so much! Plus I just caught up on White Collar today, so they were at the forefront of my mind. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! I have seen many similarities between both families and mine. ReplyDeleteI voted for my Winchester boys and the Bundys.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a couple more options the Dunphys, the Simpsons and the Starks were all close third choices...

The Winchesters and Starks. Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteBLUTHS ALL THE FREAKIN' WAY.
ReplyDeleteSPN :D but family = friends :D
ReplyDeletethat's why you have 2 votes...
ReplyDeleteIt was no contest for me. lol Winchesters of course. lol
ReplyDeleteI agree one hundred percent.

best (although maybe most insanely dependant) family relationship there is
Bluths will be my number one any given day!!

ReplyDeletethere are some fantastic families on the list...
ReplyDeleteA familia winchester Supernatural
ReplyDeleteLove me some Winchesters!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI went with the Winchesters (Sam, Dean, John and Mary)-they're dysfunctional as hell but I have never doubted any of them would lay their lives down to save one of their own. This is truly a family who love each other despite their differences, disarrangements and against all odds.
ReplyDeleteAdd to my list:
ReplyDeleteThe Reyes. Hugo, Carmen, and David.
Nobody mentioned the Fishers from Six Feet Under? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteone person put it in under "other" :P
ReplyDeleteIs there any other family but Winchesters!!!! Winchesters all the way
ReplyDeleteWas there a Rumsfeld? I didn't know that. I was thinking of the dog in Dark Side of the Moon that Sam had when he ran away, but if there were any other pets, they're included too of course.
ReplyDeleteThat defeats the purpose of picking a "favorite." :P
ReplyDeleteI'm standing by the Winchesters and The Bluths.
ReplyDeleteWinchesters for ever :D
ReplyDeleteBut was she ultimately a Summers, or was she just a fake-Summers?
ReplyDeleteFake Summers? That's a bit cynical. Dawn's situation is not much different than someone who was adopted. Are adopted kids fake family members?
ReplyDeletewinchesters <3
ReplyDeleteThe Starks! But they are also the unluckiest family ever. Boo.
ReplyDeleteWow great 4 SPN! Cheers fans!
ReplyDeleteThe Simpsons and Westens (Burn Notice) always ready to help people ;)
ReplyDeleteWinchesters are first of course, but I'm so happy to see the Starks second! :D Game of Thrones is amazing :)

But the name of the family of The Cosby Show was the Huxtables. Loved them. Cliff and Claire were wonderful parents, handling perfectly their children, even if their life motto was to get rid of all the kids off the house ;P
Also loved the Gilmores from Gilmore Girls (well, more like I loved Lorelai and Emily). And the Tanners from Full House (the first show I've ever watched, probably as a toddler :P).
The Winchesters <3
ReplyDeleteThe Supernatural Fandom ALWAYS wins. ALWAYS.
ReplyDeletePeople should really know this by now.
I keep typing the Warehouse 13 family into "Other". Related or not, they are a family. Also, while I'm glad the Winchesters are winning, how do the Bluths only have 77 votes?
ReplyDeletehahahaha, you go Sam and Dean!!!!
ReplyDeleteLoL...Winchester 61%!! Great! :D
ReplyDeleteI went for the Halliwells as second choice as well. Charmed was my favourite show before Supernatural came on the air.

I voted for Bluths and Bishops (Fringe).
ReplyDeleteCarters/Blakes and Castles in other :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't include any "friends of family" or "considered family" types - only biological or legal families... The other are just people that live together... if that.
ReplyDeleteSitcoms:
1. The Bluths from Arrested Development
2. The Botwins from Weeds
3. The Tolchuks from Aliens in America
4. The Harpers from Two and a Half Men
5. The Keatons from Family Ties
One-Hour Series:
1. The Tragers from Kyle XY
2. The Bennetts from Justified
3. The Reagans from Blue Bloods
4. .The Tellers from Sons of Anarchy
5. The Morgans from Dexter
Honorable mention to
The Mars from Veronica Mars, but I did not include any duos. (I know Lianne was in 6 or 7 episodes, but she was so minor I could not count her.)
and
The Starks from Game of Thrones. I just don't have the same feeling about them as a family as I do the others. However the bond is strong and as original literary figures they are awesome!
and
The Evans from Good Times. They were such a breakthrough moment in TV... Plus they were real without being overly sensitive or preachy. Hard to do on a show with a message.
Wow, easy one!!! The Winchesters are the best, they have everything and I love them, it's almost like they're real!
ReplyDeleteThe Tragers were a lot of fun and very underrated!
