I'm not sure any series is doing itself a favor by marketing a big secret or a big twist as the center of the series. LOST was uniquely successful and brilliant... now move on.
I mentioned in another topic that this show's appeal may be limited to begin with so a commercial like this does the show further disservice. To succeed on Thursdays this show needs a broad audience and promoting the show in this fashion is probably counterproductive in that regard.
I would think after FlashForward and The Event both used this tactic other netowrks would be all the wiser... I guess not.
Totally agree. I just think ANY series should be marketed at first on its plot.... THEN after the premiere and positive reviews, let the word of mouth and reviewers start a "What is the Event?" type campaign.
First draw people in with a good story and then let those people tell others. The mystery will market itself if it's done right. It just makes sense to me.
It does make sense. They should be making an effort to clearly and concisely relay the concept of the show to the viewer instead of trying to create a sense of mystery and intrigue.
ur right it is Persons Unknown but i think its the same type of story but better direction better out lay and a better cast of course a better network it looks like its gonna be about the the organization and not one event
Having no investment in this series because of residual LOST love, this promo does nothing for me. I side with the the advertisers on this one so far. They will have to make the ad campaign a whole lot more clear to draw in enough viewers to make it. All I get is that cameras follow me everywhere and I should be paranoid. I already know that. ;-)
being as its CBS it will draw a large audience for the premiere then dwindle to 8million viewers by episode 3, then 6million by episode 6, then wll be moved to saturday nite with around 5mill viewers then end after 12-13 episodes *4 ofwhich will be webepisodes* late november... but im still looking forward to it :D
oh, its actually nothing like that... watch the main promo of the show... you'll find it somewhere on this website... its pretty cool... Persons Unknown was pointless and lame...
CBS will have to do better. I think it's OK for July, coz viewer audiences are traditionally lover in the summer months, so it's just a little something to spread the word. It's short and simple, so why not?! But they better have something stronger for late August.
I'm sure ratings will be good, but I fear POI will not be able to overthrow CSI's share. But I hope it will be appreciated instead of getting the most underestimated series reputation :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
hm, I don't know what to think about it :D It reminds me a little bit of Persons Unknown

ReplyDeleteWith the exception of two shows the networks are doing a terrible job of advertising these things. I'm interested, then I see a promo, and then...meh.
