Still burning over that oh-no-they-didn't season finale of The Killing?
Well, you know you're going to tune in next season to find out who really killed Rosie Larsen, or at least what the deal is with Holder tampering with evidence and Councilman Richmond's shadiness, so you may as well sit back and have a laugh with Joel Kinnaman.

I don't really get the hate the show is getting. Sure, the finale was rather disappointing, I won't argue about that. And after the first excellent episodes the show got a bit weaker. But it still was quality TV, way better than many other shows.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it almost seems to me that people want to see AMC fail. Recently I've come across a lot of articles that praised Mad Men and Breaking Bad (which are without any question brilliant), but trashed the rest of AMC's original programming, especially The Killing: Apparently The Walking Dead just had a good pilot and then it got worse every week, Rubicon was boring and had no exceptional actors and The Killing was more or less trash and it's not understandable why AMC didn't cancel it or at least fire show runner Veena Sud. And of course there already are a lot of idiots talking shit about Hell on Wheels after seeing 2 trailers...
I am one of those that was annoyed by the finale, but not because it was a bad episode. Quite the opposite if you ask me. It was a great episode..... it just didn't provide the answers that I was lead to believe would come IN the finale. The one "one season = one case" expectation I had was from interviews and articles so I don't think I was off base in expecting that to be the case.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I found the finale and the season high quality TV. I will be back for Season Two and I plan to enjoy the same high quality of artistry from actors and the creative team.... However, I will not expect the S2 finale to end neatly and I will be happier for not having expectations.
I have never understood the desire from anyone for another channel, person or show to fail. To me it's completely nonsensical! Personally I want more quality TV series even if I don't personally care for the series. The more quality TV, the better. Period.
ReplyDeleteThere were 2 things that annoyed me about the finale: The fact that we didn't get the identity of the killer and that Holder seems to be a bad guy at the moment after seeing him built up as a stand-up guy. Apart from that it was a good episode.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really liked the whole season. The first 3 episodes were absolutely great and by that time I even prefered it to Game of Thrones. During week 4 or 5 that changed and GoT became the better show for me, but I still enjoyed the Killing a lot.
I really liked The killing. I watched the danish version and was afraid that they were gonna make it into another typical american series . but they didn´t. It was excellent quality and great actors.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed with the finale though. They had said that they changed the killer, so it wouldn´t end the same way as the danish series. So I expected a killer!
I´m sure I will tune in for season 2, just for the fact that the acting is brilliant. But I have to say that I´m not so sure that I´ll keep watching if the next 3 season is still gonna be about who killed Rosie Larsen.
From what I heard/read they will wrap up the Rosie Larsen murder in the beginning of Season Two. That final investigation and wrap-up will lead to a new crime that will be the main plot for the rest of Season Two.
ReplyDeleteBut who knows if they will draw that investigation into Season Three or not. XD
As a series I think The Killing did start off stronger too. The adaptation from Danish series was much easier than the Game of thrones adaption from the ASoIaF books.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Game of Thrones got stronger each episode... peaked in episode 9, and was as strong or stronger than The Killing at the end probably.
I'm not factoring in re-watchablility since I could/have watched every GoT episode multiple times and The Killing will not be a series I watch again this year I don't think.
That sound good. I have to admit that I don´t follow the spoilers for The killing, so it´s nice to hear that they will wrap it up quickly. Wonder if the new crime has anything to do with Belko.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked the finale very much. Am I alone here? What I liked was the ingenious way the audience was played with, by putting Holder out there as someone rather shady, then seemingly wrapping that up with a simple explanation: he's a recovering user. So the audience, along with Sarah, breathed a sigh of relief and trusted Holder, who seemed to geniunely care about Sarah. AND THEN ....
ReplyDeleteAudience manipulation is what a mystery is all about. Get them to think one thing, and then trick them. Then to believe another, and trick them again. The audience got hit over the head with its own sense of trust. I thought this was very well done.
I care more now about how the Holder/Linden relationship is going to play out, now that Sarah knows what's been done to her. I think this is fascinating.
I was very worried going into the finale, after hearing all the stuff about it. In the end, i really enjoyed it. I came out of it being more excited for Season 2 than i would've been if they'd revealed the killer...
ReplyDeleteIs it so unreasonable to expect, after thirteen 47 minute episodes about a murder investigation, and tons of hype, that they will catch the killer?
