Grey's Anatomy - Season 8 - Five day time jump, Cristina's pregnancy, and more

We only pick up five days after the finale ended,” reveals executive producer Shonda Rhimes. “[Story-wise] we pick up pretty much where we left off.”

That means Der and Mer are far from resolving their marital crisis, which was further complicated by the new girl in their life, baby Zola. “Meredith and Derek have a lot of things to work out,” Rhimes stressed. “They have their personal relationship, they have their parenting relationship, and they have their work relationship.”

Meanwhile, Cristina has yet to act on her decision to terminate her pregnancy — a sign that perhaps she’s having cold feet. “Five days later and she still hasn’t gone and done it — why hasn’t she and what’s going on with her?” Rhimes muses. “The old Cristina would’ve had the abortion [already].”

The cliffhanger won’t remain unresolved for long, however. “By the end of the season premiere she has made her decision,” Rhimes confirms, “and it’s pretty set in stone what’s going to happen.”

  1. So, Cristina's not going to have an abortion is what I'm getting from this. I thought she might actually go through with it.

  2. Sounds so exciting, honestly I hope Cristina keeps the baby, I know she is all hardcore for cardio but I think she truly loves Owen and she wants her marriage to work, so she will compromise and have the baby.

  3. Nice im glad we get to see them truly go through the turmoil of all that transpired during the finale.  Wasn't looking fwd to a flashback of oh hey this is how we got through the fire.

  4. I pray to the television gods Cristina aborts that baby. I love this show in all its badness but I could not stand another baby on the show, they have too many as it is. Why spend seven years building a strong character just to have her give up everything she wants and loves for a man who emotionally manipulates her and takes advantage of her most vulnerable times to get what he wants?

  5. Seriously are you for real?? He is her husband. She decided to marry him, he didn't force her ( even thought it happened in a traumatic time). And the pregnancy was unintentional, you don't get to blame Owen for that. Whats wrong with Christina having grown for the past 8 years, seen enough to know that you need more than just a job. I'm not even gonna start talking about the baby being aborted part cause that is gonna be along discussion. If she does abort  then this show is not living up to its standards. Don'tn use the whole Christina is a complex creature who doesn't need love to survive crap cause honestly she is just a normal human being and after what shes been through she deserves some happiness. Let the woman have it.

  6. Cristina and a baby? That's gonna be interesting...

  7. You assume that "baby = happiness" for Cristina. That is not how Grey's have written Cristina's character. Baby may be happiness to many women and men but it does not necessarily mean happiness to all. In my view if she doesn't abort then the show is not living up to it's standards of characterisation, moral issues aside. Cristina doesn't want kids. You can still grow as a human being and still not want kids. Let the woman have that.

  8. I don't think that's the way she meant it. More like she is rethinking/broadening her vision of what her life is and will be.

  9. I'm not going to get into whether I'm pro or anti baby or pro or anti Owen in this thread.  I just want to say that Shonda Rhimes and Grey's Anatomy going through with yet another baby story, especially one involving Christina, was a big flippin' mistake to begin with.  All they did was paint themselves into a tight corner with no good way to get out of it.  This is going to be a mess no matter what.

  10. Maybe she  will continue with the pregnancy but she will loose another baby....

  11. I agree with you, having a baby doesn't mean character growth for Christina. Shonda has spent the last 7 seasons building up this supposedly strong character who knows what she wants. She told Owen she wouldn't let another man chip away pieces of her like Burke did. She was going to marry Burke just to make him happy and look how that turned out! Christina made it quite clear to Owen she didn't want to ever have children and he still married her, hence he accepted her moral right to choose and now all of a sudden he expects her to have no doubt about this baby! Christina has the right to choose as all women do and she shouldn't do something just to make her spouse happy, a spouse she told she didn't want to have children.
