Well from my point of view Lexie being THE Grey is like a step back in our interns becoming surgeons so i don't think I'll watch show after Pompeo's departure. ER was show about place not specif. group of peolpe getting "promoted" and people coming and going was natural.

Would I watch if Lexie took over as the Grey in Grey's anatomy? Honestly, no idea.
Chyler Leigh could make it work, if it was any other actor I'd have doubts, but not with her. My issue comes with the fact that right now, Grey's isn't Grey's, so I wouldn't want her to. The latter half of season 7 was dire, not just for Lexie's character, for all of them. there was nothing wrong with the acting, it's that almost every character seemed to be being destoryed. I actually stopped watching out of boredom in the end (which wasn't easy for me, I loved this show since pretty much the beginning).
The way things stand, I don't just feel that Pompeo and Dempsey should leave before more damage is done to their characters, I feel that the show needs to be seriously sorted out, or be cancelled. Dempsey did once say in an interview that he wanted the show to go out on a high, did he not? the way things are, it's a bit too late for that - the only character that really stood out for me during the parts of season 7 that I watched was Kepner, which is saying something, because this time last year, I hated her.
If the messy soap it's turned into gets sorted out in season 8, sure I'll watch again, and if it stays that way (medical drama not soap), i'd be only too happy to continue watching without Pompeo and Dempsey.
Okay, I think I've just proven that I have too much time on my hands.
She doesn't have to carry the show. It's an ensemble. Pompeo and Dempsey don't carry it now.
I do agree with you about Alex. It would be a nice change of pace for his character if his storyline wasn't another failed relationship or relationship-challenged plot.
I got no problem with new casts but we need better stories. We've been weaned off of MerDer. I think the show could still be decent without them but they actually need to reinvent themselves a bit to do it.
I think it’s not a question of whether the show could survive without the two actors, there’s a lot of talent on Grey’s, and like others have said MerDer have become less prominent in terms of storylines, so of course it could be done. However I think the show would be damaged greatly by the loss of the characters and carrying on the show without them is a poor idea.Firstly they are the central ‘will-they-wont-they’ couple and the show will lose a lot of fans without ‘MerDer. Also, although an ensemble cast, it’s been established from the very beginning that Meredith is the lead character on the show, regardless of whether you like her as a character or not, her absence would be detrimental to the shows structure. For example, just think of the number of relationships you lose:Meredith and The Chief: more often than not Richard’s storylines are to tied to his relationship with Mere (and her mother) and Derek .Meredith and Lexie: not always that big nowadays, but it’s always cute to see these together having family moments.Meredith and Alex: as Christina pointed out in the finale, Mere is Alex’s only true friend and ally that he opens up to emotionally.Meredith and Christina: these two are all sorts of epic. I often consider their relationship my favourite, their scenes together are always wonderful regardless of the storylines.Derek leaving doesn’t have as big as an impact but he is Mark’s (and kinda Owen’s) best friend, plus y’know he’s McDreamy!Plus you just have to look at other shows that have continued on after the lead characters depart; Scrubs was awful after J.D. left - I hated him with a passion! But without him the show didn’t feel the same any more. Even a terrible trashy show like The Hills dropped in quality after Lauren Conrad left - who knew that was possible? As for Lexie taking the ‘Grey’ reigns, I like her a lot, Chyler’s a wonderful actress but I think Ellen Pompeo’s dark and damaged Meredith makes for a much more satisfying lead than perky ‘Little Grey’. As a long term fan I’d much prefer to see the show have a proper finale with as many of the original characters intact - especially with the presence of what’s left of the core 5 interns (Meredith, Christina and Alex) The show’s ’Grey’s Anatomy’ not ’Seattle Grace’ and deserves to go out on a high as note as possible and not dwindle on for another 7 seasons and end up like ER.
I agree about the whole show being about an ensemble. IMO, it's always been more about the ensemble than just one single character. And I mean, yes, Lexie would be the only "Grey" in a show called "Grey's Anatomy" then, but does that really matter? Does it really matter still that there's Meredith Grey and that the show is named after her? Is that really what people have in mind when watching the show? I don't like her. And I'm still watching the show because it's about so many other people than just her. So. At least to me. The name doesn't matter. It's merely a reminder of how it all started ... with a storyline that was based on Meredith's story maybe a little bit more than on the other's. But that's it.
Nothing has been confirmed regarding PD and EP's departure! They have yet to negociate their contracts with ABC, it's all just rumours at this point! PD and EP have both stated that neither of them have been asked to stay on as of yet but that is inevitable, I'm sure ABC and Shonda would much prefer a GA that consisted of those two considering they are the main couple and characters of the show (realistically) I for one will not watch a GA without the original Grey there is just no way! I refuse to watch another ER scenario where all the regulars are gone by the end
She looks so different here, very pretty though :). And I'll still watch the show even if Meredith and Derek leave, there are still other characters in the show. It's not like there will be no storylines if they leave.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I love Lexie, but I'm not sure if she can carry the show after Ellen and Patrick leave. It's best if they just end it this season.
ReplyDeleteAlso, can Alex get a huge storyline soon? He's my favorite character!
If Ellen & Patrick leave... I'm done! There's NO way it will be a good show without them! :(
ReplyDeletethats a Ditto for me as well

ReplyDeleteTrue, but Lexie would become the Grey in Grey's Anatomy.
ReplyDeleteAgree with both your comments. Neither EP or PD need to stick around. But if SO and JC left also, there will be trouble!
