Glee - Ryan Murphy considering possible spin-off in New York with Kurt and Rachel

14 Jul 2011

Murphy later told TVLine that he would be open to the idea of possibly spinning some of the characters off into their own show — perhaps an hour-long series about a group of young artists (namely Rachel and Kurt) who head to New York City to pursue their musical theater dreams.

“It’s an interesting idea,” he said at the time. “The questions are ‘How would we do it? And when would we do it?’ It would have to be something I would talk about to [Fox bigwigs] Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly and [20th Century Fox brass] Dana Walden and Gary Newman. What we’re trying to do now — maybe those discussions will happen around December — we’re just now trying to do the first 10 episodes.”

  1. I would watch the spin-off definitely.

  2. Hmm... the two most annoying characters on Glee in the city that made for a bad episode? Pass.

  3. They're making it abundantly clear Rachel and Finn won't be together after the finale. It makes me wonder how they're going to break the lovers up this time.

  4. I would be very excited about that because Rachel and Kurt are the most annoying ones to me.  If they left for their own show, I might stop watching Glee with remote in hand.  You can only FF so much.

  5. The two most annoying characters of Glee in a spin off? I'll pass!

  6. Well I think Blaine should definitely join them.

  7. Actually if they'd make a spin off with JUST Kurt, I'd totally watch... it's Rachel that's not so appealling to me. In a more ensable-y cast, I can deal with her, but a show that centers around her? Not so much.

  8. Then do what I do: don't watch the show, and wait for the inevitable list of Jane Lynch one-liners to surface on EW... I mean, that's the only redeeming quality about this show for me...I suppose it's not my type of show lol

  9. While I agree Jane Lynch is the only person worthy of rewind in the show, I think the actors are talented as singers and dancers.  I enjoy their renditions of songs sometimes more than the original performers.  If Tivo could cut out everything except Sue and the music numbers, I would definitely buy a TiVo.  Many times I would rather watch the commercials.

  10. I'd watch it.I'm not a fan of Rachel's,and I don't like Kurt that much, but sounds like an interesting idea.

  11. If it was the season 1 Ryan Murphy, I'd watch. Since it's the "let's get three guest stars every episode and sing singles that came out last week and have no relation to the story" Ryan Murphy, I'd probably pass.

lol Glee was a major hit and now the sequels...my guess is that people won't want to watch

  13. I´d definately watch that. Of course, it would have to have Blaine in it, and I wouldn´t mind Mercedes coming along too, but I don´t think we´d get that. However, they´d have to change the format of the show,  I love the singing but I really don´t see them just burst into singing in the middle of the city.

  14. please please please do this! I would like it if Kurt, Finn, and Rachel went to New York and this way you can add a whole new cast of them in college studying drama or something.

  15. I've noticed it's a pattern with him. He sets up a great show, interesting premice and characters, writes a stellar first season and after that he tends to lose his focus a little too much.
