It’s a case of good news/bad news for Glee fans.

First the good: Darren Criss (Blaine) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) have officially been upgraded to full-time series regulars, effective this fall with the start of Season 3.

And now for the not so good news…

Chord Overstreet’s series regular option has not been picked up. However, a source close to the show says the actor — who joined the Fox hit last fall in the recurring role of McKinley transfer student Sam Evans — could return as an occasional guest star.

It is bitter-sweet news I guess

  7. I'm outraged by this, seriously.  Chord is a great singer, a talented actor, and it's a shame TPTB are doing this to him, and his fans.

  8. Not suprising, Sam was a decent character that was at least A. somewhat realistic against the more cartoon characters, B. played by someone who could sing for a decent length of time without starting to go nasal and C. was acted decently. The same can be said for Darren who outshone everyone and the producers had to keep him. But Harry? Seriously? The guy cant even sing ON A SINGING SHOW!!!

I dont know why I get invested in this show, I get pissed off with the selfish characters, the plot holes, the reset at the end of pretty much every episode and the singing I usually skip ahead because it grates.

Thankfully I dont live with the flatmate who used to watch these on loop so I can give it up. Just a season earlier from when the characters that the audience have been invested in for 3 years all disappear. Leaving us with Sue "the one dimensional character who at least makes the show watchable" Sylvester and Will "Im the dullest character on the show" Schuester.

Sorry, pent up rage at this show but at least I can free up my schedule more.

  9. I'd keep all of them, but if I had to choose one, It would also be Chord. He doesn't have anything extra like Darren and Harry do. Just a decent look, decent singing voice and decent dancing abilities.. He's just too decent.

  10. Kind of stupid of the writers to throw Sam/Merceedes getting together in the finale and then get rid of him. Chord isn't like that guy from season 1 who didn't come back for season two, a lot of the series revolved around him. Pretty stupid to get rid when a lot of people invested interest in the character.

  11. strange about Sam... :/

  12. Considering that I only started to like Sam at about the last 4 episodes, I don´t mind, as long as Chord is back as a guest star to end things. I´m glad for Harry and Darren. Harry has been on the show from the start, he might not sing well, but he´s an amazing dancer and he deserves to be a regular. I don´t even remember him not being in an episode last season, so I think it is very natural for him to became a regular. And Darren, well , I believe there are people now that watch the show just for Darren, so that is a sensible decision for the show, on my opinion.

  13. What happens to Sam and Mercedes then??? They shouldn't have put them together if they were gonna do this..

  14. So happy about Darren and Harry, but so sad about Chord. I loved Sa,m so much. One of my favourite characters.

  15. WTF they're doing with Sam?
    Bad, bad move.

I'm happy for Blaine, but I couldn't care less for Mike.

  16. *sighs* THIS is why I have so many issues with Glee. Ryan Murphy is an arrogant ^*@(&)#! and, this past season, he has completely pandered to the idea of popularity. For a show that's all about a lovable group of misfits, on a meta level, they spend a lot of time finding popular guest stars. I mean, it makes sense ratingwise, but then we get situations like this.
When it comes to Harry and Darren, those two have been fan favourites for a while now, so they get promoted. Then again, remember that being a series regular means nothing to Murphy. Poor Jessalyn (Teri Schuster), who had a year of not acting to look forward to. Or Tina, who gets shoved out of the way in favour of guest stars and new blood on the show. When it comes to Sam, well, he wasn't the most loved character. Even though they gave him a story and set up a Mercedes romance towards the end, he just wasn't that popular. I have no doubt that Sam's culling has to do with bringing in more people who might bring in stronger ratings. I find this amusing after all of the news quoting Murphy on how, with most of the main characters graduating next year, it'll be up to characters like Sam (who happens to be a year younger) to carry the show forward. *facepalm*

wtf!? Harry Shum cant even sing!

  18. I'm totally uninterested by this. I mean I like Glee, I like it a lot, but does this really matter? Fact is the recurring characters this season have had a hell of a lot more air-time than most of the so called main characters.

  19. Kinda sad about this, I liked Sam but the cast was getting WAY to big so its nice to know that TPTB are willing to make cuts.

The funny part about this to me is that again Mercedes boyfriend gets the cut during the summer hiatus, last year it was Shaft (dont remember the characters name) this year Sam. The Mercedes Curse continues, at least she still has her tots!

  20. Honestly, the best part about Sam's character was his nickname.  So, no big loss here.  Happy trails, Trouty Mouth.

  21. Screw Darren. Blaine is a suck ass character. Chord should be staying!!

  22. Wow, Blaine and Mike! I hope that Mike could sing now... that'll be great. Maybe with solos! I'll love it. \o/. But I'm sad for Sam, cause he hasn't a solo and now is already gone. : ( I hope that he can have one maybe as guest.

  23. WHAT! I'm so sad i cant even be happy bout the BLAINE BLAINE BLAINE happy news. Sam is going out with mercedes CMON! :(

  24. Whilst I understand what you're saying regarding Harry, I can see why they kept him in. He is the best dancer and, considering he's not had any huge story lines, has a surprisingly large fan-base. Plus Ryan Murphy did say he wanted to pay some attention to Mike, Tina and Mercedes this season...

  25. I know right, and after they gave us that AWESOME story about his family ARGH! pissed OFF

  26. yeauh "that guy" spoke twice hahaah

  27. I know right ahaah thats why im so shock that sam is going. "I'm happy with the reaction that sam is getting cause it was a test to see if we could bring in new blood".... yeah if you keep them you idiot. im pissed sorry hehehe

  28. hmm... blaine... yeha your right hahaa.

  29. That sucks about Chord because I was really looking forward to his and Mercedes storyline. Oh well. Gotta just hope the writers and producers know what they are doing.

  30. Lol, no worries, agreed completely.

God, I love Blaine. Sucks for Sam, but hey.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Are you freakin' kidding me??? ... I mean, I love Blaine and I'm absolutely happy that Darren's Blaine is a regular now and I am also very happy vor Harry / Mike.

    But. Chord. Seriously?

I'm not online for 2 days and this is what I find. Chord leaving? *sigh* well, I love pretty much the whole cast, so almost everyone leaving would have gotten me upset, but ... Chord? Oh man .______.

What confuses me the most about this is the end of Season 2, though ... Mercedes & Sam as a couple. Not even exclusive yet, but still a couple. Mercedes finally gets her own man; her own boyfriend to make her happy. And the possibility was introduced so lovely with the Prom episode, imo ... and now he's all of a sudden gone?
I mean, yes, relationships change during the summer. The way it was done from Season 1 to Season 2 still seemed natural and ... well, it fit, and I think they dealt with it quite well. But you can't seriously have Sam & Mercedes as a kind of cliffhanger at the end of Season 2 and then write Sam off Season 3. Seriously. That's just ... not good.

So. Again. I'm more than happy concerning the news on Darren (and also Harry), but really MORE than upset about Chord.
