Williams, who is best known for playing The Wire's Omar, the stick-up boy with a strong moral code, will appear in at least three episodes. His character takes his first teaching job at Greendale after recently being released from prison, where he earned his degree in biology.

epic casting!!
ReplyDeleteWow. :)
ReplyDeleteThe rumours were true. Omar comin to Greendale!
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch the Wire so I don't know who Michael K. Williams is but the fact that they are taking biology together brings lots of potential for funny. The prison thing could be cool too.
ReplyDeleteDahne...please do....such a great series...he's also in Boardwalk Empire
ReplyDeleteOh, it's Chalky White! Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad they were able to land this guy after all. The character seems great too.
ReplyDeleteI hope they have him or one of the cast whistling Omar's theme (Farmer in the Dell/ A Hunting We Will Go) at some point..... Every time I see MKW that is the first thing that pops in my mind. One of the most iconic character elements EVER!
ReplyDeleteI may have to try to watch Community for a 5th time if someone does it! XD
You might like The Wire. In my opinion it's one of the 5 best series ever on TV.
ReplyDeleteIt's well written, well acted and is the rare crime drama to really show both sides of the line - the criminals and the police. Dynamic characters on both sides living their lives and not just living events to progress the plot.It is not a procedural though, very serialized and it does have a slow build without answering a lot right away. I know you mentioned you dislike that some times. In my opinion it's so well done that you might not notice.
Sorry to but in, but what would you say the other 4 best series are, in your opinion? (I'm just curious and always on the lookout for new shows)
ReplyDeleteNo need to apologize. :)
ReplyDeleteThis site is all about asking questions like that!
Honestly I pretty much threw out an arbitrary number so I didn't have a list in my mind exactly..... That said, if I had to make one I think I would just list completed series. All of these are serial dramas. I don't do a good job comparing dramadies or sitcoms to dramas, so that would have to be separate lists. In no particular order.-The Wire-Lost-The Sopranos-The Shield-Six Feet Under-Deadwood (Was cancelled so it does ot have a proper ending)Other current series that will or could be in top lists when they end.-Breaking Bad-Mad Men-Boardwalk Empire-The Killing-Game of Thrones-JustifiedI have never seen Oz, The West Wing, or The Good Wife, but they all get great critical and word of mouth reviews from what I've seen.
From your classics list, your top three are on my list also. I would say, in order:
ReplyDeleteThe Sopranos
Lost
The Wire
ER
NYPD Blue
Never saw The Shield and don't care to, but I've heard a lot about Six Feet Under and want to see that.
OMAR!! The Wire cast a bunch of nobodies, and now look--they're all becoming somebody: Lance Reddick (Fringe), Andre Royo (Fringe), Wendell Pierce (Treme), Amy Ryan (The Office), Idris Elba (Luther), and Dominic West (The Hour). Did I forget anyone?
ReplyDeleteMichael B. Jordan (Friday Night Lights), Domenick Lombardozzi (Breakout Kings), Sonja Shon (Body of Proof), Chris Bauer (True Blood), and Callie Thorne (Necessary Roughness).
ReplyDeleteI think I forgot some too, but you covered the major players and I got most of the minor ones... I think.
Yeah I forgot ER.... NYPD Blue I never was a fan of, but it would be right up there on most lists I bet.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Didn't know about those.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see The Hour (coming August 17 where I live).
Six Feet Under is pretty good, but sometimes I find it to be a bit overrated. The first 2-3 seasons were excellent, but I found that last 2 seasons weren't able to keep the high quality. Nevertheless a show that's worth watching.
ReplyDeleteNever saw West Wing or Good Wife either, but I can highly recommend Oz. Awesome show, great acting, great writing and you also see a lot of familiar faces from shows like The Wire, Dexter, Fringe or Lost (especially Akinnuoye-Agbaje is a stand-out). It also has a lot of iconic characters, Kareem Said may be one of the best characters ever created for TV.
ReplyDeleteJust watch Oz, you're gonna see so many familiar actors!
ReplyDeleteHaha, okay! :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, of that list I've only seen LOST, the Pilot of Six Feet Under (which I don't particularly remember but I might have to give it another shot), the first three episodes of Breaking Bad (which I need to watch soon), the Pilot for Boardwalk Empire (which didn't interest me), and Game of Thrones. I've always been curious about The Wire, Deadwood, Mad Men, and The Killing though! Might need to check those.
My stack of DVDs to watch has reached new heights, but I will definitely fit Oz in there. I've heard good things.
