Chuck - Chris Fedak Reveals Final Season Plans

Jul 23, 2011

It was the ultimate good news / bad news: Producers for NBC’s favorite underdog Chuck learned last May the show was renewed — for a final season. “We were picked up and cancelled in same phone call,” recalls writer-producer Chris Fedak. Still, it presents producers with a rare opportunity. Despite all the press surrounding the conclusion of Lost, broadcast TV producers very rarely get the luxury of planning an entire final season in advance. Readying for an appearance at Comic-Con today (the Chuck panel is always a high-energy highlight of the conference), Fedak talks about his plans for his hero’s last adventure.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What was your reaction when you learned about the final season order?
Chris Fedak: We were very excited to be able to do one more season of the show. It’s really amazing to be able to plan a great finish for your story and it doesn’t always happen in TV. We look at it as an amazing opportunity to close the Chuck story in one epic final chapter. We have a big story pitched and we have a final moment for the series that we’ll have been working up to for five seasons.

  1. It sounds like Morgan will be keeping the intersect. I don't think fans will be too happy with that.

  2. :(
Hopefully everything else will make up for that ^^

  3. Yeah, I wasn't all that into the whole Morgan getting the intersect thing. I'm hoping it isn't the case.

  4. I'm so, so glad they got a final season, it's always really upsetting when shows just get cancelled without having a chance to wrap things up nicely.

  5. I hope the "Conspiracy" (mentioned in ep24 last season) is expanded upon and made believable. If they mess that up they could potentially mess up the entire series :(

    But I have faith!! :)

  8. I know I'm not.  It's the final season.  They should of stopped screwing around with the intersect a while ago.  Morgan was the one civilian that was involved with the team and they're intent on screwing it up.

  9. I literally groaned and rolled my eyes during the finale when that happened.

  10. I was literally chanting "Don't give it to Morgan.... Don't give it to Morgan... Don't give it to Morgan.... Don't give it to Morgan..." like some kind of mantra to ward off bad juju as that scene played out. I guess it did not work... :(

  11. In all seriousness, I can't see how a room full of professional writers, who normally know what their viewers like, could think that this particular twist was a good idea.

  12. I hate it if Morgan keeps the intersect.

  13. As much as I will be sad to see Chuck go, it's good to end the run while the going is good, and with them knowing ahead they have a chance to make this last season truly spectacular. Hope they use it well.
