Boondock Saints - Troy Duffy Update on Possible TV Spin-Off

20 Jul 2011

It was revealed a month ago that Troy Duffy was in early talks to adapt his beloved Boondock Saints franchise for mature audiences on TV, hinting at a possible deal with either Showtime or HBO. When asked if any headway has been made on the series, Duffy said he has a meeting in a week's time to determine the next step. "Right now it is just an idea...a damn good one as far as I'm concerned."

As for whether or not Duffy will scratch his plans for The Boondock Saints III and continue from the second film directly into the TV series, he isn't too sure yet but did reveal that the show may revive fan favorite third wheel Rocco (David Della Rocco).

"Don't know which direction we will go. Many fans love Rocco so much and to them its a threesome so we may take a side road and have Roc and the Boys in Boston doing what they do. I know Roc is dead but this one small break from the story may provide too much opportunity and lets face it, fans want the Roc!"

Duffy confirmed that he has spoken to both actors Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery to see if they were interested in participating in a TV series focusing on their Saints characters and both seem to be interested -- but it all depends on what happens after the director's upcoming meetings. "The boys had positive responses," said Duffy, but cautioned that their other projects such as Reedus' stint on AMC's The Walking Dead aren't expendable without notice. "You can't really "drop everything" in this business. Sean and Norm ain't the kind to leave people hanging.... Reedus steals the show [on The Walking Dead]."

  1. Showtime & HBO? Last time Duffy said AMC & HBO, maybe the article's writer mixed it up...

Anyway, said it before: I'm torn on this issue. I love Boondock Saints, it's one of my favourite movies ever made. But I'm not sure it'll work as a TV show. Plus I love Norman Reedus on The Walking Dead and don't want him to be killed off on that show. My only hope would be that if AMC picks up the show that Reedus could do both shows, but that would be a massive amount of work on his side and mean that he wouldn't have any time left for movies which I doubt he would do.

I think I'd prefer a 3rd movie to wrap up the story, but I would watch the TV show without any question. As long as I get to see a bit more of the MacManus brothers I'm happy.

  3. hopefully it could film while TWD is off, it's not like they have that many episodes.  How effing awesome would it be to have Roc back!?  But I'd be cool with Clifton Collins Jr back as Romeo too!  No need to worry about The Event anymore anyway.

  4. I would like a TV Show or even a 3rd movie if they can't make a show.
