There are 27 days left until the Emmy nominations will be presented.

Today we continue with two fun categories: Lead Actor & Actress in a Comedy Series. You can choose up to six people in each category. Also, who do you think should be nominated and who do you think will be nominated?
Sound off below in the comments after you've voted.

The next poll(s) will be up on Monday.

For comparison here are last year's nominees:

Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) -Winner
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
Tony Shalhoub (Monk)
Steve Carell (The Office)
Matthew Morrison (Glee)
Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm)

Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie) – Winner
Toni Collette (United States Of Tara)
Tina Fey (30 Rock)
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures Of Old Christine)
Lea Michele (Glee)
Amy Poehler (Parks & Recreation)

You can still vote in yesterday's poll:
Lead Actor & Actress in a Drama Series

  1. Male:
I think Steve Carell is going to win. Who I want to win? Hard to say, usually I'd say Jim Parsons but this season wasn't his best. Sad that Nick Offerman submitted himself as supporting actor :(

    Female:
I really have no idea, I only watch TBBT out of those shows but I don't think Cuoco deserve an Emmy.
It's probably gonna be Edie Falco again or Tina Fey.

  2. Male:
    Louis CK
    Charlie Day
    Joel McHale
    Jim Parsons
    Jason Schwartzman
    Adam Scott

Louis CK was just terrific, he was absolutely amazing on Louie. But I doubt a show like that would be nominated for an Emmy. FX comedies don't get recognized at the Emmys. therefore Charlie Day won't get the recognition he would deserve, because he is hilarious on Sunny.
I'd also have McHale (Community is great & I love him on The Soup), Schwartzman (got his act together in season 2), Parsons (role of his life time) & Scott ( I'd rather see him as male lead on P-Rex than Rob Lowe).

    Female:
I don't watch a lot of those shows. Courtney Cox definitely did a great job. Allison Brie also got a lot of screen time on Community this season, but rather is a supporting actress. Olson on Sunny is also rather a  supporting actress, but was pretty good last season; nevertheless Sunny won't get any nominations. Kaley Cuoco was good, but not Emmy good imo. Tina Fey is over-rated as an actress. She's a great writer, but just an average actress. And I haven't watched the last season of Weeds, so I can't say if Mary Louise Parker was Emmy worthy this year.So my choice would be Amy Poehler who was great this year on Parks & Recs.

  3. Steve Carrell of The Office. Didn't pick a female lead because I don't watch much comedy shows to have my vote count since I have no idea who most of those female leads are except for Lea Michele of Glee. Would have picked her if it weren't for the fact that she gets pretty annoying.

  4. Jim Parsons, Matthew Morrison and Josh Radnor... although I think they won't win... and Kaley Cuoco and Tina Fey...

  5. This makes the comedy-category`s so pathetic. Lea Michele funny? What the fuck, i belive that Jane Lynch is funny, and i mean it. But like the cast of Glee is horrible when i comes to comedy. If a show like that makes your laugh-muscle tickles because of that show, i again loose faith in humanity.

  7. Sheen didn't submit himself as far as I know.

  8. Male :

Danny McBride — Eastbound and Down.
Jim Parsons — The Big Bang Theory.
    Lucas Neff — Raising Hope.
    Joel McHale — Community.
    Matt LeBlanc — Episodes.
    Steve Carell — The Office.
    Alec Baldwin — 30 Rock.
    Louis CK — Louie.

They're all good, I could have voted for each actor in the poll, except for Matthew Morrison and Josh Radnor of course. I'm mentioning 8 actors in the list above but I think I didn't vote for Alec Baldwin and Jim Parsons because they already had Emmys last year or 2 years ago.

Steve Carell is used to this ceremony as well, sure, but season 7 was his last year and he deserves to win because, believe it or not, he never won a single Emmy for his role as Michael Scott ! He was nominated every year but he never won. That's complete nonsense ! So it's now or never, and I believe voters will want to reward that, that's what I would do.

Rob Lowe is awesome as well but he isn't a lead. He is LITERALLY someone Emmy voters should think
of for the best supporting actor in the comedy series category, but he's
no lead on Parks and Recreation.

Could/should also be nominated : Jonathan Schwartzman (Bored to Death), Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and David Duchovny (Californication). I could also say Nick Offerman (Parks and Rec), Garett Dillahunt (Raising Hope), Ed O'Neill (Modern Family), Ty Burrell (Modern Family) but I'm guessing they should rather be included in the supporting actor category.

It's much easier in the best actress category :

Amy Poehler — Parks and Recreation.
Kaley Cuoco — The Big Bang Theory.
    Martha Plimpton — Raising Hope.
    Mary Louise Parker — Weeds.
    Tina Fey — 30 Rock.

Amy Poehler and Martha Plimpton definitely deserve to get nominated and they could win. It would put some light on 2 comedies that aren't exactly popular and won't get more popular next season (Parks comes back to 8:30 after Community ; Raising Hope moves to 9:30). Tina Fey, of course, does a tremendous job on 30 Rock and deserves a nomination as well, but I somehow have the feeling there are other shows that deserve some Emmy love more than 30 Rock.

Could/should also get nominated : Tamsin Greig (Episodes), Kaitlin Olson
(Sunny), Julie Bowen (Modern Family) and Laura Linney (The Big C - I know it's not a sitcom but it's
often pretty funny (even if I cried twice during the season)). All 4 of them are leads to me. I could also say Alison Brie (Community), Katie Aselton (The League), Jenna Fisher (The Office) and Shannon Woodward (Raising Hope) but I think they may count as supporting actresses.

Let's remember what Edie Falco said last year when they awarded her for best actress in a comedy : "I'm not funny" and she' right, Nurse Jackie may last 30 minutes and have some comedy bits but it surely isn't a laughing out loud show. I hope voters will remember that and will vote for a proper comedy in 3 months.

  9. Sometimes a "dramedy" category wouldn't be a bad idea. In addition to already mentioned shows like Nurse Jackie or Weeds shows like How To Make It America or Entourage aren't exactly funny and more milieu studies than comedies. A few years back there hardly weren't any shows like that, but now there are more and more every year.

  10. Josh Radnor may play the main character, but if I had to choose the best actor of a comedy series,I'd definetely choose Neil Patrick Harris.

  11. I hope Josh Radnor gets nominated, although I have a sinking feeling that he won't :( Love him on HIMYM, great actor on a great show :)

    Amy Poehler
    Tina Fey
    Martha Plimpton
    Courteney Cox
Melissa McCarthy (Love her even though I have never seen her show)

  15. Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory)

  16. Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski anyone?

  17. Dude, I never said that Lea Michele was funny. What I did say was that the only female lead that I ever knew of was Lea Michele of Glee. Try paying attention...You might learn something...

  18. Steve Carrell better win for his role of Michael Scott, one of the my favorite fictional characters ever!  Also season 7 was absolutely hilarious, he truly deserves it!

  19. Courteney Cox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This woman is hilarious as herself, she doesn't need a great funny lines to make me laugh

    She deserves an Emmy nomination

  24. How is Amy Poehler not leading this poll?

  25. Good question!

  26. Amy Poehler FTW. Second choice, Martha Plimpton.
Rob Lowe was the happiest surprise when he joined PRex, but I don't understand why he's lead and not supporting.
And of course, the wonderful Joel McHale.

I'm late with this. I was out of town, and grateful I still had a chance to vote.

  27. am i the only one who wants matt leblanc to be nominated ?!! he did an awesome job in episodes !! go matt :D

  28. I know, right? Teri, Felicity, Marcia, Eva and Vanessa throw all those women out of the park, and yet they're not even featured here and probably won't even be nominated because the show is a dramedy... I hope that at least Kathryn Joosten gets nominated, she has better luck at that.

Also, Patricia Heaton sucks so much! Her facial expression never changes! Martha Plimpton, Edie Falco and Toni Collette are awesome, though.

    ReplyDelete
  29. She's a terrible actress! Particularly when compared to the amazing Jane Kaczmarek that had the same basic show as her. Notice how her facial expression never changes, even when she is yelling at her kids. WTH?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Joel Mchale, Jim Parsons and Josh Radnor.

    Kaley Cuoco and Courtney Cox.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would laugh if Charlie Sheen got nominated!I would cheer if James Roday got nominated!
I will yawn when Alec Baldwin gets nominated...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Joel McHale
    Steve Carrell
    Louie CK
    Lucas Neff
    Danny McBride
    Zac Levi

    Mary-Louise Parker
    Martha Plimpton
    Patricia Heaton
    Amy Poehler
    Lea Michele
    Kaley Cuoco

I really hope that McHale and Parker get nominations and victories this year as both are deserving of it. If I had to guess I would think that actor is Carrell's to lose, and someone that I didn't nominate will win for actress

  33. Patricia Heaton on The Middle does not get enough attention! Great show :)
Parks and Recreation is the best comedy on air!
