Supernatural - Favorite 9th Episode - Poll
11 Jun 2011
Polls SupernaturalThe episode 7 results are in and it is The Usual Suspects winning with 27% followed by Fresh Blood with 19%. The Usual Suspects was on TNT today and I agree that it was pretty awesome. today's poll will be for the 9th episodes. I will be in complete minority here because I detest certain characters that have a strong following in the fan base (Missouri Mosley and Chuck Shurley, I'm looking at you.) I also think most of these episodes suck. So without further ado, this is my completely biased opinion:
Home - Hate it. The first 15 minutes were decent when we found out Sam has visions that come true and Dean was freaked out about being home again. It went drastically downhill from there. Missouri is one of my least favorite characters, the guest actors (not Loretta Devine who is an awesome actress who played a sucky character) ranged from bad to meh, the kitchen sink and the lamp attacked (and I laughed not in a good way), and that hideous monkey creeps me out every single time. Add to it, our first glimpse of Mary didn't satisfy the brothers or the viewers.
Croatoan - We get our first foray into demon viruses and it really worked for me. I love how the whole town turned and the moral dilemmas the brothers faced. It had humor (You have a neighbor named Mr. Rodgers.) and of course, Dean staying with Sam until the end. Even giving up the Impala to do so. It was the last hurrah for the brothers before John shot it all to hell.
Malleus Maleficarum - My pick for the grossest choice in this poll, but I really liked it. The sububan witch theme interested me and the fact that Tammy knew Ruby. I would have been fine if she killed Ruby, but no it was the cute little bunny instead. And when the woman's teeth fell out - like I said gross.
I Know What You Did Last Summer - The introduction of Anna when she was still a crazy-girl ally and not trying to kill them before they were born. I liked this episode best when I first saw it but it doesn't wear well for me. An average episode for me, but I like it better than when she became powerful.
The Real Ghostbusters - This episode has three strikes for me. First, it has Chuck who I blame for the MatEoTB fiasco. I hated the whole SPN books storyline. 2. the convention was one reason why I hate meta episodes for the most part (although I thought French Mistake was fun). Fake Sam and Dean were decent but the meta for meta's sake pulled me out of the episode more than drew me in. 3. And there is no excuse for this one - it brought back Becky, a character more annoying than Missouri to me. Her mere mention makes me cringe so a full episode of her is too much to ask of any fan (or at least me.)
Clap Your Hands if You Believe - The episode that made fairies, brownies, elves, and trolls canon. Oh joy! It did have some great humor (RoboSam and the fairy lady, nuking the fairy light, opening title sequence, "Fight the fairies") but when they hinted that fairies were more powerful than angels, we walked into dangerous territory. I so don't want Oberon as the Big Bad in season 8. If we never hear from fairies again, I will enjoy this episode a lot more than I do right now.
So I really don't like 9th episodes anymore than the 6th ones it appears. What do you think? Happy voting and remember that comments are the iPad apps of life.

For reasons mentioned above:
ReplyDelete6 - The Real Ghostbusters
5 - Home
4 - Clap Your Hands if You Believe
3 - I Know What You Did Last Summer
2 - Malleus Maleficarum
1 - Croatoan
FIGHT THE FAERIES!!
ReplyDeleteThe Space Oddity scene alone sends Clap Your Hands if You Believe to the top.
ReplyDeleteI actually really like all the 9th episodes from all the seasons, which makes this decision again rather difficult.
ReplyDelete6. The Real Ghostbusters - not bad by any means - I love meta, I do, but it probably suffered from being placed right after Changing Channels, which put off the Apocalypse storyline even further.
5. Malleus Maleficarum - really solid episode
4. Home - one of my favourite episodes from the first half of Season 1 - this is around where it became must-watch viewing for me (confirmed by Faith). I also wasn't a big fan of Missouri but didn't feel it detracted too much in the whole scheme of things.
3. I Know What You Did Last Summer - Pretty great setup, introduced Anna who was ok but also the rather awesome Alastair, one of my favourite Supernatural villains.
2. Clap Your Hands if You Believe - Awesome tribute episode filled with humour and clever writing and put S6 back on track after All Dogs
1. Croatoan - For me, this is classic Supernatural. Suspenseful compelling storytelling with humour and mythology weaved into it.
1#- Croaton- The idead of the people stuck in a town who have to deal with virus is classic. And Supernatural made it even better and mor classic. And I just love the episodes which contains Azazel and his plan and the psychic Sam.
ReplyDelete2# I know what you did last summer - loved the way they brought Anna to the show. Besides, the episode included Ruby, Demons and angles... Brilliant!!! I loved that although this season is about Sam and Dean split, they worked together in this episode. A well done episode:)
3#Clap your hands if you belive- besides the good opening and the respect they brought X files with it, the episode is very good in my opinion. I also loved the fairiesXD
Oh man. You hated Home? That's the episode I voted for!
ReplyDeleteIt was such a nice episode to see them go back to where it first started. You could really see how Dean felt in going back and having to think about feelings he had to let go of. This episode was definitely a minefield of fucked-up emotions from both the brothers.
I loved the part when their mother resurfaced; and I loved it when we saw a glimpse of them in the past (with the pictures and whatnot).
I can't fathom how great this episode was.
My second pick would have to be Croatoan. That episode, too, had many, many emotions from both Sam and Dean––especially Dean. It was refreshing to see Dean––of all people!––to say that he'd had enough of this hunter life and that he was willing to kill himself, if it meant that he wouldn't be in this hellhole-of-a-place without Sammy.
good bad not great ones here, although i don't really think any of them were bad
ReplyDeletei'm not a big fan of missouri either but i liked home for every other part of it.
i honestly though i know what you did last summer would be winning given its content and everyones astounding love for season 4. i didn't mind it because i liked anna before she became a douchey angel and we found out what sam did. i just didn't like ruby 2.0 so this episode doesn't win it for me.
clap your hands was funny, especially dean nuking tinkerbell in a microwave, but on the whole i don't think it was such a great episode and down the bottom for me on the season 6 list of awesome
it always seems to come down to 2 for me. i liked the real ghostbusters. seeing sam and dean react to the convention and all those people pretending to be them was awesome
but croatoan was just so epic. the dream at the start then going back and seeing how that insane scenario came about. and the demon virus and the mystery when sam was immune to it.
i thought all round croatoan was a really epic episode so today my vote went to croatoan
:D
Croatoan is first choice .
ReplyDeleteFollowed closely by Home the season 1 fan in me again lol
Clap Your Hands if you believe Souless Sam was so good in this.
Malleus Maleficarum .
The Real Ghostbusters is one I use to hate but repeat viewing has made it better for me it was the timing of the episode more than anything.
I know What you Did Last Summer comes last what should of been a Sam episode turned into a introduction for Anna and justifying Ruby although some scenes were good.
Croatoan. Sam's reaction to Dean's suicide thoughts, the way Jared played it... it's stunning even after all those years. The whole scene is a classic of this series.
ReplyDeleteVoted for Croaton, it was a great episode, and one of my favorite regarding Dean and Sam's bond as brothers.
ReplyDeletecroatoan is one of the best episodes of the series...
ReplyDeleteFor me it's The Real Ghostbusters and Clap Your Hands if You Believe..
ReplyDeleteCroatoan for sure !!
ReplyDeleteThe others are pretty average for me.
I loved Missouri and she's way better than Bobby, who is a lame and horrible character. After all these years, I can't stand Bobby anymore. I really wish Missouri had returned for Devil's Trap so that Bobby wouldn't have existed.
ReplyDeleteMaybe my tastes run different here, but I enjoyed Clap Your Hands if You Believe, lol. It was enjoyable. I believe the boys had fun with it. Any way. Here's my list. My first choice would have to 1. Clap Your Hands if You Believe. I loved Sam's attempts at trying to appear normal and showing empathy. Dean's trying to be Jiminy Cricket to Sam's Pinnochio was so funny. Sam's one-liners were worth it all. 2. Croatoan The entrance of the demon virus was important to the story line later in the series. We knew it was important for Sam to be immune which meant Sam was more important than the other children. 3. Home For me, the acting was tremendous in this story. We learn more about how the events of their childhood affected the boys. We also learn what kind of father they have. The more I learn about John and the lack of support they get from him, more I wonder I wonder about the man. 4. Malleus Maleficarum is a good episode, but rather bloody. 5 I Know What You Did Last Summer and 6. The Real Ghostbusters.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit...I will watch The Real Ghostbusters every time its on. I just love it that much. I loved the books storyline because it is something that shouldn't have been able to be done, but it totally worked for me. So that was my vote for #1.
ReplyDelete2. Croatoan. Loved the concept and the fact that Dean wouldn't leave Sam
3. Clap your hands. RoboSam and Dean were hysterical. So many good one liners. "Friggin full of Keeblers over here man" "I feel like I have the crazy on me" "Can't I suffer and have sex with the hippie chick" and finally..."Fight the fairies"
4. Home. Classic SPN and Dean and the man tear. Plus John...yummy
5. I know what you did. Its not that i really disliked this, but again, it was up against some heavy hitters for me. I didn't like the Anna storyline, but liked aspects of this one.
6. Malleus Maleficarum. Disliked. Don't even record it in reruns. The suburban witches were boring for me.
Turned my spoilertv extension off because it was loosing its mind. I didnt' realize I hadn't checked in for a while.
ReplyDeleteLet's see my order:
1) Real Ghostbusters ( loved this ep. loved the books. (would purchase some of
that artwork if TBTP every decided to sell it.) I just love me
some glorious silliness)
2) Croatoan ( good creepy fun)
3) Clap Your Hands if You Believe ( I just love me some glorious silliness.)
4) I Know What You Did Last Summer
5) Home
6) Malleus Maleficarum (one of the EH episodes)
HOME!! And then Croatoan;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE MISSOURI MOSELEY :P
ReplyDeleteI liked all of these episodes, but for me it came down to a tie between Croatoan and Last Summer. I went with Last Summer because it needed my support more than Croatoan.
ReplyDeleteFor Croatoan, I loved the school joke near the beginning, the scene of Dean trying to get out of town, and the Sam immunity storyline.
For Last Summer, I loved everything about Anna in that episode, the return of Pamela, a new twist on the angels mythology, the line from Sam to Dean ("Let's share stories, you first" - I love it when he confronts Dean) and the Sam flashbacks. I liked Gen as Ruby, although I preferred her snarky rather than fake supportive, and it's a little creepy to see the Ruby/Sam sex scenes now that they're married. I feel like a voyer.
For the other ones - I have no problem with Missouri. I thought she made a good guest. On Malleus, I liked the introduction to the Lilleth/Sam storyline. And Ghostbusters and Clap Your Hand were funny. I think I'm in the minority in that I don't have issues with fairies and leprochans.
I voted for Clap Your Hands if You Believe because it was one of the funniest episodes, but I loved Croatoan
ReplyDeleteI love all of these episodes, so it was really hard to pick XD
ReplyDeleteI ended up voting for "The Real Ghostbusters" because I watched it 2 days ago, and I had totally forgotten how funny it was! I just kept on laughing through the whole episode xD Loved it!
But anyways, I don't really care which episode wins this poll, cause I think all of them are great!
1-Croatoan-loved all the brother stuff-9/10
ReplyDelete2-Home-loved all the brother stuff and loved when Missouri kept telling Dean off-8/10
3-I know What You Did Last Summer-Loved all the Sam and Ruby stuff, hated Anna-8/10
4-Malleus Maleficarum-interesting story, the build up of Sam and Ruby, totally gross8/10
5-Clap Your Hands-loved all the soulless Sam moments but the mythology was crap-7/10
6-The Real Ghostbusters-kinda boring, hated Becky and wasn't too keen on Chuck either-6/10
Croatoan.
ReplyDeleteThe exchanges between S&D in this episode break my heart.
All the others have great moments in them.
Didn't like Missouri (although I don't dislike her quite as much as you do Dahne :P) But I will be forever thankful the actress was unavailable - enabling us to have the totally AWESOME Bobby Singer.
Didn't like Anna either - something about her awful hair just kept pulling me out of the story - I know it's only a little thing but it is what it is.
Becky sucks out loud. Chuck is only marginally better.
Malleus Maleficarum was great (and gross)
Clap Your Hands had it's moments, but I wasn't thrilled by the idea of bringing the fae into canon either. So yeah - Croatoan.
Choice between Croatoan and The Real Ghostbusters...went for Croatoan because Dean locking himself in the room with Sam made me cry I will willingly admit, despite the fact that TRG was absolutely hysterical and love between the c&c of spn and the fans :D
ReplyDeleteIs that why we got Bobby? Because she wasnt available??
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. I think if nothing proves fate and destiny exists, that does
I think Croatoan, Malleus Maleficarum, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Clap Your Hands If You Believe are all strong episodes.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Croatoan - it's definitely among my favourite episodes of the show. I love the general idea of the Croatoan being a demonic virus. Plus the dynamic between Sam and Dean was Supernatural at its very best.
Malleus was an interesting and fast episode too and if I'm not wrong it's the first time we ever heard about Lilith. Plus, the witch theme was something refreshing at that time.
Last Summer was great, but I prefered Heaven and Hell from this two-episode arc. I really loved Anna in season 4 and I'd rather pretend The Song Remains the Same never happened. I thought they completely destroyed the character in that episode. This episode also introduced Alastair, hands down the scariest demon SPN has ever had. So, I Know What You Did Last Summer would be my second choice here.
Clap Your Hands probably crossed the line of accaptable weirdness for me, but I still liked it, especially the first part when it was about aliens, not fairies. Soulless Sam was hilarious, Dean had its comedy moments too. The second part of the episode was more disturbing so I'd rather SPN never took this way again, but for a one episode experiment, it was kinda cool. My number 3 out of these.
Home was meh, The Real Ghostbusters was fun, but average, even though I love Chuck.
