Supernatural - Favorite 4th Episode - Poll

3 Jun 2011

The third episode poll will close soon, so I'm calling Bad Day at Black Rock the winner with 41% of the vote. In second is In the Beginning with 29%. In my opinion, the third episode poll was much harder to narrow down than the previous polls or the one today. I predict today will come down to season 5's The End and season 6's Weekend at Bobby's with The End winning overall. Don't forget to comment below because comments are love. Or at least more interesting. Feel free to rank your favorites too.

The choices are:

Phantom Traveler
Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things
Sin City
Metamorphosis
The End
Weekend at Bobby's

  1. Phantom Traveler was good although hard to suspend belief about a flight attendant putting a pilot in harm's way after 9/11.  I liked how we learned another side of Dean and how Sam tried to calm Dean down.  Plus it had many great lines.  One of the best in season 1 for one-liners.  And it did spawn my John hatred.

CSPwDT - In my opinion, practically pointless.  It's in my 25 least favorite episodes.  Plus, not so great acting from the guest stars, which is rare in SPN

Sin City - Typical MotW episode but with GREAT guest stars.  Casey may not have had much screen time but she's one of my most remembered guests.  Father Gil was awesome too.  Plus the Colt is back even if it is Ruby that fixed it.  If this episode were in the middle it would have a decent chance for my vote.

Metamorphosis - GROSS!  Another in my least favorite list.  Enough said.

The End - One of the best mytharc episodes of the whole show.  Heck, I even liked Chuck in this episode.  Plus, it has something for each of the largest fan segments - DoubleDean with one well-armed, LuciferSam in the white suit, HippieCas and the orgy.  It's my bet this one wins, and it would have gotten my vote without question if it weren't for....

Weekend at Bobby's - Put it down to my love of Bobby or the fact that we saw a new side of hunting for the first time in 5 years.  Perhaps the montage to the Gambler or maybe it was the wood chipper.  It trumps everything.  No, I know, it was Rufus and Bobby squabbling like married people.  That must be it.    I can't think of anything I didn't like about this episode from the pacing to the humor to the action.  (And no it wasn't the director.)  I think it was one of the best written episodes of season 6 and all kinds of interesting.

    My ranking:

1 - Either The End or Weekend at Bobby's (will rewatch to determine)
    3 - Sin City
    4 - Phantom Traveler

way, way, way down there - both CSPwDT and Metamorphosis

  2. Tough choice between The End and Weekend At Bobby's, both were tremendous episodes.  Why can't we pick 2!

    ReplyDelete
  3. wow Methamorfosis, The End and WaB are really awesome. But i have to go with The End.

    ReplyDelete
  4. It's a close one.
I looooove me some Bobby. WaB was such an awesome episode - an opportunity to see just how Bobby does spend his time - and it AIN'T sitting around waiting for S&D to need him. Although he is ALWAYS there for them. And woodchipper trumps everything. And Rufus. And Rufus and Bobby together. And Crowley. And Crowley and Bobby together.

    But.....
    I'm going with The End.

And not just because of DoubleDean. Although he has a lot to do with my choice. I loved how Jensen played the two Deans, how we always knew which one we were looking at. With that performance goes the awesome writing, direction, editing, lighting - everything in fact.
Jared and his chillingly awesome Samifer was fantastic too. Cas was hilarious.
And best of all - Zach thought he'd taught Dean a lesson - which he did - just not the lesson he intended. Loved that.
And it was what made Dean decide he and Sam should fight together.
So, I know I've said all that before, but it is my favorite episode EVER. Sorry WaB cuz I love you too - almost as much.

As for the rest: Sin City 3rd - loved Casey and the fact that I'll always wonder if she could've helped the boys if Sam hadn't killed her.
The rest - didn't like Metamorphosis much - and certainly not one of the boys' 'wins'

  5. Obviously my vote goes to The End. Future!Dean is my favorite character of the entire series.

    ReplyDelete
  6. WTFUCK!?
How am I supposed to choose between Weekend At Bobby's and The End!?
    IMPOSSIBLE!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Jensen did an awesome job as a director, but "The End" is sharing the title of favorite episode of the show with "Lazarus Rising" so I have to go with it!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Oh and I forgot to mention the inspired use of The Contours' "Do You Love Me" as the troops shot down all the 'croats'. And of course the fact that this was one of Ben Edlund's true masterpieces

  9. While I like a lot of these episodes, it was no contest which one got my vote. The End is one of my favourite episodes of the entire series as it has an amazing and interesting plot with great acting and character development and is so important for the rest of season 5. It's just an incredible episode, so it definitely should win this one.
    2. Weekend at Bobby's
    3. Sin City (love Casey, always remember her and her interaction with Dean)
    4. Phantom Traveller
    5. Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things
    6. Metamorphosis (one of my least favourite episodes)

Although reading your retro recap of phantom traveler made me remember how much I loved that episode, for me it came down to, as predicted, the end and weekend at bobbys.
Although I loved weekend at bobbys for jensens awesome directing and the new perspective of seeing itfrom bobbys point of view, loved the end.
I thought it was brilliant, I thought sam played lucifer amazingly and dean played an awesome and brutal future him. Ad hippy human cas was great too. And it brought the brothers back together at the end afterteir painful split in free to be you and me
So good option but for me another easy choice with the end

    ReplyDelete
  11. Gee, I can't believe that many people picked The End... that episode seemed to go on and on and on and on... It took forever for Dean to get to that camp. Then it got a bit better... The Lucifer Dean part was great, but not great enough... It gets big points for big ideas (loved the toilet paper thing)... I picked Metamorphosis because it totally broke my heart in the beginning and had me pulling for a monster through nearly the whole episode. That doesn't happen that often for me...

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh, these polls are too easy so far!! the only one I had problems with was episode 2, all others have had definitive favourites for me.

The End is by far my favourite episode of all these and probably my fav of season 5. Everyone's acting in this episode is just incredible - Jensen pulling off two Deans (and my gosh, the future Dean was even hotter than the present one, if that's even possible), Misha portraying the future human Cas and finally Jared as Lucifer. I mean, it was totally mind-blowing and probably he delivered the best devil I've seen in my entire life. He was so angelic that it made him even more creepy. And that white suit... perfect!! this is actually the only time Lucifer looked like a real, powerful villain. Loved it. Even though there wasn't much of Jared in this episode, that scene just blew me away.

As for the rest... I am among those few who really didn't like Weekend at Bobby's all that much. I love Bobby, but the episode was just boring at times. No action, no tension, nothing. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't superb either.

I loved Phantom Traveler. It's such a simple episode, but has this typical Supernatural charm. Absolutely loved Dean's fear of flying and the exorcisms on the plane.

Sin City and Metamorphosis - well, I could live without them. Really nothing special about either. And to be honest, I don't even remember CSPwDT.

  13. It was a toss up for me between The End and Weekend at Bobby's, but I really had to go with The End. One of the best episodes ever IMO, Jensen's acting was just superb, Jared was amazing as Lucifer, stoner!Cas is one of my favourite versions, and the apocalyptic world was just so well created, it was truly a masterpiece.

    ReplyDelete
  14. It was a toss up for me between The End and Sin City.  The End was great for all the reasons people have already mentioned, but I found Sin City a really fun episode when the series was at its best.  So I went with Sin City, just because it's my favorite episode to rewatch out of all of these.  I remember being pleasantly surprised with Weekend at Bobby's, but I think I've watched it three times now and for the life of me can't remember what it was about.  I remember a few scenes, but that's it.  The other three didn't leave much of an impression on me.

  15. Finally I'm sure! Love all the episodes (well maybe except Metamorphosis), but the best is definitely THE END! :)

"the future dean was hotter than the present dean, if that's even possible"
Oh god it's so possible!! They were both amazing! Jensen did a great job

I also barely remember metamorphosis and CSPwDT , when going through which episode to choose, I completely forgot the second one was even there

    ReplyDelete
  17. The End was hands down the best among these.

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is a hard one. Sin City was a favorite of mine, but it doesn't hold the same impact as The End and Weekend at Bobby's. In my opinion, The End was better, simply because I liked the whole mythological aspect of it (time travel, the devil as Sam, future Dean...)

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. The End - Future Dean and Present Dean were both amazing. I loved Chuck as well and the whole concept of what the world looked like post apocalypse.

    2. Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things - I liked this one. I loved all the episodes right after Dad's death. This episode really wasn't about the Zombie girl as much as it was about Sam and Dean dealing with their Dad's Death. And Dean dealing with knowing Dad made a deal for him.

    3. Weekend At Bobby's - This one was a tie for me with #2. I loved finally getting to see what Bobby's life was all about. What he did when he wasn't saving the boys. The wood chipper segment was classic. :)

    4. Metamorphosis - Not one of my Favorites.

    5. Sin City - This one had some really good and intense scenes.  Especially with Dean but it seemed to be lacking something for me.

This 1s the hardest 1 yet, but I went with The End b/c it was just so epic and the acting was amazing. I could have def chosen Weekend at Bobby's instead because it was awesome and Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things b/c of the emotions in the episode (especially at the end...I cry every time I watch it)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree, this is the hardest poll so far and it is only the 4th one! Anyway, I voted for Sin City, but I enjoyed all of them really. The choices will become harder and harder as each day and poll comes along!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I had to pick Phantom Traveller, cos it's one of my favourites. Adorable dean is adorable. But The End was amazing - two Dean's anyone? Not to mention Jared as Lucifer... and the end of the WORLD. That's pretty epic. Also Cas was so cute as a human. So I can see why everyone is voting for that one. Well done all, good choice... and I'm sure it has nothing to do with the two Deans and ladies underwear.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Metamorphosis would be my favourite .Followed by the End esp Jareds Lucifer.
    Then Phantom Traveller .
    Sin City
Lastely Weekend at Bobbys no reflection on Jensens directing he did a fine job or that I dont like Bobby it was just one Sam lite episode too many for me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Tough to choose between The End and Weekend at Bobby's, but had to go with The End.  The way Jensen and Jared both played characters out of their norm, and did it so convincingly, was awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  25. This wasn't a really hard one for me either...The End won out :)
After that in order of fav to least fav:

    2. Sin City-- Loved this one.  Loved the other hunter (whose name is escaping me at the moment...I want to say Joey?)  And Dean and the demon stuck in the basement.

    3. Phantom Traveler--Loved the concept and the flight attendent (from Eureka :) )

4/5.  Children and metamorphosis are tied for this spot.  There were things that I liked and disliked about both.  I liked Sam trying to fight "the monster that can be redeemed" idea in his head in meta...

    6.  Now I know I'm in the minority, but this is probably on one of my top 10 worst list. I like Bobby well enough and I thought is was filmed beautifully, but I just was bored with an hour totally devoted to Bobby.  The only scene I found remotely interesting is the one where he is yelling at the boys.  Definitely would never take the time to re-watch it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I was bored by WaB too. Just like you say - I love Bobby, but a whole episode of Bobby from Bobby's point of view turns what is best about the character into a borefest. Surprisingly enough, a whole episode of Cas was a great entertainment for me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have to say that I totally enjoyed the Cas-centric episode too...much more than Bobby's.  And the funny thing is that I like Bobby so much more than Cas.  The man who would be king just had so much more content and really helped move the story forward.  Bobby's story, other than getting him off the hook with Crowley, really didn't help with the storyline for me.

  28. Firstly, thanks for doing these polls. It's a great way to reminiscence about past episodes and talk amongst peers.

Secondly, I actually have to disagree with "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things". That episode was amazing. It was a great way to gain insight on how Sam felt and on how Dean felt about losing his Dad. And the scene with Dean and Sam at the end––where Dean weeps his sorrows "away"––was phenomenal. So, that's why I voted for that episode.

Phantom Traveler was just humorous LOL. I, like Dean, am afraid of flying, so it was a funny to see his reaction (and his reason for driving) LOL.

The other episodes were good, but not great. It's funny, 'cause I picked the ones I liked, but those very same ones were on the bottom of your list LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  29. So true - and I felt there was also much more tension and emotion in the Cas episode.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I voted for "The End", one of the show classic episode !!
I really like Phantom Traveler and Weekend at Bobby's too. the first because of his nostalgic feel (the horror type episode of the earliest seasons) and the second for the Bobby/Rufus chemistry.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ha!  I could only pick 1 last poll, so sorry.  :-P  I think half the fun is trying to suss out which one will get my vote, especially since there are several where it is really, really hard to choose.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm surprised it took any thought of all for you on this poll.  I know how much you love The End.  You and The End is like me and WiaWSNB.  And trust me, I won't hesitate to vote for that one no matter what else is against it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Just a little service to drive you absolutely nuts this hellatus.  Enjoy the Sophie's Choice.  :-P

    ReplyDelete
  34. Amazing, but I think we have the same ranking.  That never happens for me.  I think it's a sure bet that The End will win this one.  Probably by the greatest margin in the entire contest.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks for reading the recap.  I appreciate it.  For me, it's a shame that Weekend at Bobby's and The End are against each other.  I consider both of them to be the finest Supernatural has to offer.  Definitely top 20 material.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That's what I love about Supernatural - there's something for everyone.  My guess then is that our favorites and least favorites for season 6 would be swapped too.  My five least favorite were The Third Man, All Dogs Go to Heaven, Unforgiven, Mannequin 3, and The Man Who Would be King - not in that order.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I really loved Metamorphosis as well. Probably for the exact reasons Dahne hates it so much :P
(I mean seriously...how can you dislike nasty, gory, scary monsters? We don't get enough of those on this show!)

  38. lostrocks4ever4 June 2011 at 01:40

I love the recaps. It's always interestig to hear an epidoe from someone else's perspective and they often mention things I never even thought of or noticed
Yeah, it'd is sad that these two are up against each other. Especially when I can imagin that some polls will have not so great episodes comig from all sides when these two are both so awesome.
But on the whole I still believe the end was better. All round I thought it was just an incredible episode

    ReplyDelete
  39. lostrocks4ever4 June 2011 at 01:44

The hard ones are gonna drive me nuts. I didn't findings one too difficult to choose because the end was superb but I know coming up will have some awful decision making on my part where i will have to chose between faves.
I have no idea what I'm gonna do about the season finale!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I was wondering when you were going to mention that.  I know you love that epi.

    ReplyDelete
  41. hii, dahne, i actually read all ur poll, from 1 to 4, and i always vote but im not comment :D

i vote metamorphosis, i dont know, i like that episode, first time i see sam telling something inside of him, he feel it pumping through his vein, well i know i would not win the vote :P i only win the 3rd poll caus i choice Black Day at Black Rock,  :)

and The End episode, to see double dean and samifer.., when sam try to came back to dean but dean reject him well it "break my heart" but then at the end dean know what to do,:D  actually this is also my favorite :)

i like Phantom Traveler, to see how dean afraid to fly LoL i laugh really loud when i see his face when the plane turbulance when the demon take control the plane :D

Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things it ok too, ha seeing sam watch porn and throw the remote when dean open the motel room and step in, awkward :P

Weekend at Bobby's is good, i put this in the last favo just because i barely see the brothers in this epi :)

    ^_~

  42. This one was tough.... All excellent contenders IMO, with The End being such a classic wonderful episode, but personally I just had to go with Weekend At Bobby's simply because it was 100% Bobby, and you just can't go wrong with that ;D

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi Ekas.  Glad you commented here on SpoilerTV.  Thanks.  I probably won't vote the same as any of these polls because if the choices are tied for me, I vote for the one with the least amount of votes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree.  Bobby-centric was a beautiful thing. Plus it had Rufus and the Rufus and Bobby combo is made of win.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Trust me when I say this, that I rarely enjoyed season 6. So, most, if not all, episodes of season 6 are horrible (for me). The only one I really liked was when our Sam was back. The hug between Sam and Dean was greatly missed and was one of the only things done right in the whole season. Sigh.

I can't wait for the next poll! I actually get excited when we have to pick LOL

    ReplyDelete
  46. Toss up between The End and Weekend at Bobby's. Chose Weekend.
