Supernatural - Favorite 11th Episode - Poll
13 Jun 2011
Polls SupernaturalJust a reminder that when the Best Show competition begins, I will stop adding these polls and resume again after the Best Show contest has finished. Think of it as our own little hiatus. Again, I am jumping the gun a bit but I'm calling Croatoan the clear 9th episode winner with 41% of the votes. In second with 18% is Clap You Hands if You Believe.
In the 11th episode contest, things get interesting, at least for me. The juggernaut is of course Mystery Spot and I think it will win. The question for me is by how much. I love Mystery Spot but there are 3 episodes in my favorite list and 2 episodes in my least favorite list with Sam, Interrupted tossed in the middle somewhere. It will be interesting to see what lands in second place this round. Here's my take:
Scarecrow - Awesome. One of the scariest monsters of the week that Supernatural has ever had. It also introduced Meg and kick started the idea that while they were after the demon, YED was also keeping track of them. Besides, "I hope your apple pie is freaking worth it" is SPN classic. Not an episode I can easily vote against.
Playthings - Ugh! I call this one Dead in the Water 2 and that's not a compliment since DitW is one of my personal favorites. This is the lame sequel. Full of "But I don't want to be evil" emoangsting and creepy dolls, the only part I liked was DrunkSam and he was hilarious. "You're bossy. And short." Bwah!
Mystery Spot - One of the best of all-time. I remember when I first heard the synopsis that Dean died a lot, I expected it to be overdone on the angst. Instead, we got one of the funniest episodes of all. Bad tacos anyone? And who hasn't thought - Tuesday, Pig 'n a Poke? However what made this episode was the Trickster being back and Sam channeling his inner RoboSam. Funny, chilling, and surprising. It was made of win.
Family Remains - Also known as The Benders 2, also not in a good way. We went from angels vs. demons battle to incest kid with her hygiene problems and rat diet. Everything in this was supposed to bring back the people are evil vibe but hit on revolting for me.
Sam, Interrupted - OK, let's get it over with. "Pudding!" That and Sam getting the good meds were awesome. Everything else is meh. Um, well what I remember that is because this episode goes in the "I watch when it's on, but never pull out to watch on my own" pile.
Appointment in Samarra - This episode makes everything harder for me. One of the truly great episodes in season 6. We get Death, who is always awesome, and RoboSam going after Bobby, which was intense and good for an actual scare. Add in the Dean as Death sideplot and the fact that I never believed they would actually re-soul Sam before hiatus. This episode gets better every time I watch it. Those who hate RoboSam may disagree and shifting editing is never my choice, but I think this was one of the best episodes of all and it is added to my Top list.
There's my opinion. What's yours? Don't forget to comment after voting because comments are that movie you actually do not regret paying full price for in a disappointing summer blockbuster schedule.

So, this is an impossible task. Ranking these episodes. I'm having a hard time even ranking the bottom 2. The only one I know exactly where it goes is Sam, Interrupted. When I first did the list I went Mystery Spot, Scarecrow, and Appointment in Samarra. Now I think 2 and 3 should be switched, but then I changed my mind again so here's my cop-out.
ReplyDelete1. Mystery Spot, but by far less of a margin than most people who vote for it.
2/3. Appointment in Samarra and Scarecrow (written in alpha order)
4. Sam, Interrupted
5-6. Family Matters and Playthings (again in alpha order, but if push came to shove, I'd probably have Playthings eke out Family Matters simply for DrunkSam.)
Haha I was thinking "wow everyone's chosen Mystery Spot!!" .... I was the first vote. /smart.
ReplyDeleteIck no, it's not Family Matters though, it's Family Remains... with the inbred feral people that grew up in the walls of a house...
ReplyDeleteHa! My guess is that Mystery Spot will have high numbers, but I doubt if it stays at 100%. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to see how people voted later. Anyone that votes for Family Remains will get a MAJOR side-eye from me.
ReplyDeleteSorry you're absolutely right. I fixed it. Of course, if the inbred feral chick had eaten Steve Urkel it might have improved the episode.
ReplyDeleteFeel the same way about Bugs. I still maintain that someone voted for it simply because they felt sorry for the episode.
ReplyDeleteScarecrow: Great episode, probably one of the best of season 1. Loved the whole thing! It's easily #2
ReplyDeletePlaythings: It was ok... #5Mystery Spot: Easily the winner of this round. Comedy...Gabriel...The whole thing that started funny and ended really really sad... just a great episode. #1
Family Remains: A little creepy, and the twist with the 2nd sibling ALMOST makes up for the horrible writing/acting in this awful episode. #6
Sam, Interrupted: I really enjoyed this one for the delusional scenes, and for the monsters, because they were actually pretty freaky... #3
Appointment in Samarra: I might be the only one in the entire world that felt like this was just another average episode. Aside from Death being cool, and Sam getting his soul back, it just didn't delve deep enough for me...It was like they had a great idea and then decided to touch on it, but not really do anything with it... Still, it was better than Playthings and Family Remains by quite a bit. #4
So upsetting that these episodes are all up against mystery spot becaue apart from Family remains and sam interrupted, I absolutely loved every episode 11 and think they are all brilliant
ReplyDeleteBut, my heart belong to mystery spot. My all time favorite episode, I don't think any episode ever, no matter how awesome, will ever take it's place on the top of my list. And it had the trickster.
But appointment in samara is really close. One of my fave episodes from season 6, I loved every moments of it and wish I could vote for it as well
Next for me would be scarecrow. That was creepy and awesome and had "dude, you fugly" which I loved
Next is playthings. It was probably one of the first episodes I ever saw but I hadn't actually realized it was supernatural at the time
Next comes family remains and then finally sam interrupted. I dont think the last one is necessarily bad, it just also goes in my pile of episodes I don't plan on watchig any time soon. But just above swap meat
I had to vote Mystery Spot.
ReplyDeleteDespite the humor that people found hilarious––which, I, for one, really didn't––I actually loved the angst in this episode. And there was so much of it! Even if Sam was caught in a time-loop, you could see he was breaking down, little-by-little, and there was no way he could stop it. The last couple of minutes were truly the best minutes––when Dean "died"; when Sam continued to live a "normal" life where he'd still get food for his brother, despite his brother being "dead"; and when Dean came back and we really saw the light come back in Sam's eyes when he hugged Dean. It was just an awesome episode.
I chose Scarecrow as my fav here, always has been special for me and honestly...it was freakin scary too. It's almost impossible to choose between Mystery Spot and Scarecrow tho. Then I'd pick App. in Samara, Playthings, Family Remains, Sam Interrupted
ReplyDeleteDahne it is super weird how often you put into words exactly what I'm thinking.Except I have to add: 'Dude you fugly' from Scarecrow. And 'Crazy works' from Sam Interrupted. (which I use frequently) Death is one of my favorite characters, so Appointment in Samarra scores cool points just for that - but also because it was a great episode - and we learn that the natural order should not be interfered with.I'm confudes (as usual) must think some more
ReplyDeleteYup. Really hard to rank these. This show hasn't ever been scary to me but Family Remains contains a scene that made me get on the phone cause I couldn't be alone. (when the kid was laying in bed and thinking it was the dog licking he hand.)
ReplyDeleteanyway here's the best I could do...
Mystery Spot
Appointment in Samara
Scarecrow
Sam, Interrupted,
Family Remains
Playthings
Love so many of them! But my choice is Appointment in Samarra - because it was an amazing episode that restore my faith in season 6. Close - Mystery Spot;)
ReplyDeletesupernatural and fringe are proberly the most downloaded tv shows in eastern europe, is it me or cant people see that these shows are more profitable outside the united states.. i mean 2million americans watch supernatural the next day millions more download it all over the world.... i dont know what im getting at, ive had a drinky sunday.. bottem line, the more people seem to love a show on spoiler tv, the less views it gets.. so spoiler tv can (with the fans help) doom a show... But i love spoiler tv, so i hope no offence :D ..also these polls are getting silly, i mean favourite 9, then 10 then 11, cmonn
ReplyDeleteMystery Spot is amazing, but I had to go with Appointment in Samarra. IMO, it was easily the best episode in the first half of season 6, and possibly the best episode overall. Just amazing.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more;)
ReplyDeleteEASIEST poll ever! Mystery Spot is THE BEST! :D
ReplyDeleteSorry, I really like all the other episodes too! They are all awesome in my opinion, but.. c'mon! MYSTERY SPOT! XD There are VERY FEW episodes that are better than that one :D
So, obviously, my vote goes to Mystery Spot!
OMG, the 11th episodes ROCK!!! Seriously, I think all of them are good to outstanding and this is probably the toughest poll apart from the premiere so far.
ReplyDeleteScarecrow and Playthings are both great examples of the early Supernatural and what was best about it. Frankly I don't know what's there to dislike about Playthings, it was an awesome horror episode, I for one loved the creepy dolls and other playthings and the scary grandma and the old-school haunted house. Besides, "poke her with a stick", anyone?
Mystery Spot is among the best of the best this show has ever done, thus despite everything it was an easy choice to vote for it. I think this is one of very few episodes of SPN that absolutely everyone loves. I mean, our opinions differ so often and yet I've never seen anyone saying they disliked Mystery Spot. And that alone makes it a winner. Besides, the way they handled all those deaths... pure brilliance. And how the episode turned from pure comedy to pure tragedy. I mean, if any episode of SPN can be called 100% perfect or flawless, it's Mystery Spot.
Family Remains, I will never understand the hate towards this episode. I loved it. It was a great and refreshing break after all the demon-angel drama from IKWYDLS and HaH. Brought back the horror feeling of season 1 and plus I really loved that Danny kid.
Sam, Interrupted is probably my least favourite one on this list, but I still enjoyed it. Maybe it wasn't outstanding, but definitely had its moments (the way they got into the mental hospital by telling the truth, Sam on the happy meds etc.)
Appointment in Samarra is one of the best episodes of season 6 and if it wasn't for the brilliance of MS, I would have easily voted for it. I've always loved Tessa and her dynamic with Dean, like his own personal reaper. Loved Dean as Death and his struggle with what happens if you disturb the natural order. Death is always amazing to watch, so is Balthazar, even if he only appeared for a brief moment in this episode. And it was a turning point with soulless Sam getting his missing piece back.
I had some favorites in this poll. My top choice was 1. Mystery Spot. The Trickster/Gabriel is always a joy on Supernatural. I really miss him on the show. I can't think of a thing about the episode I din't like. It's hysterical. Who would have thought it. My second choice is Appointment at Samarra. Jared's portrayal of Robo-Sam was awesome. Dean's stint as Death was well played by Jensen. I honestly thought this would be played out all season. The writers did great. The 3rd would Scarecrow. I almost put this first. It is a fabulously well written horror story and one I love to watch on Halloween. I loved Dean's way of calling something ugly. lol 4th would be Sam Interrupted. This is great story. I can't looked at a bowl of pudding ever the same again without bursting out laughing. If I'm with someone who has seen the show, we can't look at each other or we both will. 5. I watched Family Remains yesterday. I'm going back through all the seasons, rewatching. I'm refreshing my mind for season 7. There are not very many that do not have a supernatural emphasis to them and this is one of them, but sometimes horror is not supernatural. Sometimes evil can be caused by the influence of of something that is still there.Just an opinion. For what it's worth. Have a great day everyone.
ReplyDeleteMystery Spot was my top choice. In the span of the episode, I went from laughing hysterically to crying. Thats one thing I love about Supernatural. It can be light and fun, but then turn into something deeper as an episode progresses.
ReplyDeletewhy is it silly? I mean, once you vote for your favourite premiere, 2nd, 3rd episode and so on, you gotta vote for every single episode up to the finale, right? otherwise it would make no sense at all.
ReplyDeletereally, haters go hate somewhere else and let us SPN amazing fandom have our fun. And for the record, these polls rock and so does Dahne ;)
These are all good ones, but how do I vote against Mystery Spot. Just can't happen. We have humor, angst, and the trickster. It is all things good about SPN.
ReplyDelete2. Appointment--RoboSam...need I say more. One of my favorite. Almost made the top (would have if it wasn't up against Mystery Spot) Loved Sam summoning Balthazar...when Balthy realizes that Sam's soul was still in the cage. Plus Death putting the soul back in. Just loved it.
3. Sam Interrupted--I love the conversation with the Doctor in the beginning. "he was high :)" Loved the wraith. The hallucinations... And nothing gets better than a drugged up Sam. Totally funny.
4. Scarecrow--Liked the Monster of the week, but didn't enjoy Sam and Dean apart and was never a fan of Meg
5. Playthings--The ghost girl was so creepy. But the best part for me was the drunk Sam scene and the morning after :)
6. Family Remains--Didn't like it, but loved Supergirl in it :) Go Helen Slater!
Voted Scarecrow. And am I the only one who didn't like Mystery Spot? I hate seeing Dean die over and over again. It's just stupid and not funny at all.
ReplyDeleteHow in the world did 4 people pick Family Remains?
ReplyDeleteI hated seeing him die over and over again, but it made the episode stronger because he died continuously. It was a great way to see how Sam would feel about this whole ordeal of losing his brother for good.
ReplyDeleteI, like you, didn't really find the episode amusing, like many did; I thought it was quite morbid, actually.
Hit the wrong button by mistake? I just found it's very easy to do on mobile screens. Or its the only one nominated they have seen? Not sure myself but I would love to have them and the person who voted Bugs comment on them. Maybe they are seeing things in a different light than I do and that would make for great conversation.
ReplyDeleteThanks! You rock too. In fact so do all the SPN fans who are helping us get through hiatus one SPN moment at a time. I'm not sure why people who don't like the polls click on them anyway. There's plenty of other things they may enjoy more. However, to all the unhappy people out there, this is the last poll until the Best Show competition is over. In the meantime, I hope the whole SPN fandom rallies for the vote on Thursday. It's Supernatural vs. Dexter and people are still upset that Supernatural won last year. But just like the Winchesters, the Supernatural fandom is at its best when outnumbered, outgunned, and relying on their convictions to get them through. Let's rally the troops folks!
ReplyDeleteVoted for "Appointment in Samarra", one of the best episodes of Supernatural ever.
ReplyDeleteMistery spot is good, but not that good in my opinion.
I'm not a Mystery Spot hater, but I did feel that there were a few things that seemed off about that episode. It was one of the first times that I felt like that in Supernatural, so as much as I thought it was entertaining, it lacked somewhere.
ReplyDeleteHad to go with Mystery Spot because it's such a classic. Samarra and Scarecrow would tie for second and third. Sam Interrupted and Playthings would tie for fourth and fifth. I didn't think much of Family Remains.
ReplyDeleteWent with Family Remains because it is the creepiest episode of the entire series in my opinion (with Bloody Mary a close second!) and because I knew the episode I think should win this (Mystery Spot) would get loads of votes anyway :) My second choice would be Scarecrow after Mystery Spot, and then Sam, Interrupted, and then Playthings and finally Appointment in Samarra (you can probably tell at this point that I'm not the biggest fan of season 6 unfortunately!)
ReplyDeleteI voted for Appointment In Samarra !!
ReplyDeleteScarecrow and Mystery Spot was great episode, classic SPN episodes actually !! Very great shows.
Mystery Spot hands down. It's probably my most favorite Supernatural episode ever.
ReplyDeleteOh, believe me, you're not the only one. I didn't think it was stupid, but it wasn't funny AT ALL. At last for me.
ReplyDeleteAnd I also voted for Scarecrow. Loved how Sam finally came back to his brother.
Scarecrow.
ReplyDeleteDean is a snarky badass, the Sam and Meg scenes are always great, and there's some good Sam / Dean relationship stuff at the end.
How the hell did I forget about the Sam/Dean scenes?!?! Shit...now I wanna vote for Scarecrow instead of Mystery Spot -_-
ReplyDeleteBut the Sam and Dean stuff in Mystery Spot is better! We get the playful brotherly banter. We get Sam holding Dean in his arms when he's dying. We get the HUG! THE HUG!!! There was no brother contact and hugs in Scarecrow! ;D
ReplyDeleteYou're right! This is why I hate these polls. I can't have my favorite episodes pitted against each other :(
ReplyDeleteYou know what? The hug does beat all. We rarely get 'em and when we do, it's the best thing in the world. That's actually the reason I voted for Mystery Spot to begin with LOL
See now? What'd I tell ya? ;D LOL
ReplyDeletethank you so much for using the phrase "had a drinky sunday" that just made my day. Maybe the international love is part of the reason the show got a 7th season. (I was totally surprised by that.)
ReplyDeleteI kinda like these polls. They're a lot less insane that some of the stuff fans of some shows have done. :-)
I had a hard tome ranking these two because I could find something I loved about each one. I went with Appointment in Samara, I LOVE DEATH! The interactions between Dean and Death are amazing, and then there's the whole Sam tries to kill Bobby thing. Love it. Second for me is Sam Interrupted, and I know a lot of people won't agree, but for some reason I could watch this episode over and over again. Mystery Spot was right there for second place too. The anguish Sam shows as the episode goes on, coupled with Dean tying his shoes to "Heat of the Moment" and the funny ways Dean dies, all classic! Scarecrow and Playthings are third place for me. And of course the creepy and unfunny Family Remains is in last.
ReplyDeleteExactly... what you said :) I whole-heartedly agree with your list and reasoning.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it better myself... so I didn't even try!
Watched 'Playthings' today on TNT. I still really enjoy Drunk Sam.
Ok so I've reverted to my tried and tested method of choosing in polls where it's too difficult. Scan the list and pick the one the stands out the most in that split second. So I've gone with Appointment in Samarra, cuz the first thing that pops into my head is an image of Death. See? I can make a decision - eventually.
ReplyDeleteSo are we gonna do 12th eps soon? :D
ReplyDeleteDahne wrote that she was taking a break with these polls during the Best Show competition. (first paragraph above)
ReplyDeleteScarecrow.
ReplyDeleteDean is a snarky badass, the Sam and Meg scenes are always great, and there's some good Sam / Dean relationship stuff at the end.
