Despite the fact there is a few more hours to go in Day 4's polls, I'm trying to get back into the usual posting time of the competition, so there will be a slight crossover between yesterday and todays polls. As such, don't forget to vote in yesterdays polls which has two very close match-ups between MASH & The Sopranos as well as Farscape vs. Charmed. To see how that is going/went you can find it HERE
Today is a return to the current shows, and sees long running medical drama House challenging the gritty Vampire series True Blood. Also today we have police procedural NCIS facing one of the most popular current sitcoms in The Big Bang Theory... Here are four shows who do or have done big viewing figures for their networks so it will be interesting to see how it translates into votes in todays polls...
The rules for, for anyone new to the competition is very simple. There will be new sets of shows against each other every day in a new set of polls... simply vote for your favourite and the show with the most votes will win that days poll and head into the next round.

ReplyDeleteI hated the 1st season of True Blood (no interesting storylines/characters except in the last 3-4 episodes perhaps) but season 2 won me over in a tour de force : I never thought I could enjoy this show that much, and True Blood arrived in my top 3 of the best shows of 2009/2010. Season 3 was inferior to season 2 but it was still truly great (especially from episodes 3.04 to 3.10). I don't regret forcing myself to continue and not give up in the middle of the 1st season. I still can't believe this show comes from the same guy that created Six Feet Under, it's really fast-paced and addictive. Can't wait for season 4 now.
Actually, I didn't like the first season of The Big Bang Theory either. I don't know why, I don't know what changed but season 2 was much more enjoyable. Still, it's not as funny as NBC or FX sitcoms but given it's from CBS, it's more than enough. Besides, the dialogues are extremely well-written (a show like TBBT will never impress anyone on the visuel aspect so having great lines is kind of necessary). They're often witty, sharp, well delivered, and Jim Parsons found the role of a lifetime.
I never really watched NCIS, not my kind of show, and I find myself quickly bored with House. Yes, Hugh Laurie is an extremely talented actor but aside from his performance there's not much left to praise. Having a great lead actor is essential but having other great things around him in the show is just as important.
I love both House and True Blood... very hard choice. I went for True Blood since the last House season put me off a little bit.For the second poll, I don't really like procedurals and sitcoms, but TBBT is one of the only ones that I can actually laugh at, so I voted for that.

This is one of those where I voted completely against personal taste and logic. Went with House and NCIS due to the huge fanbases, but not for their quality.

i guess ziva does, yes, but thats why i stopped watching, when ncis became less about the what made the show good and more about what makes good tv
ReplyDeleteI grew bored with House a long time ago. So True Blood had me. Difficult to chose between NCIS and Big Bang Theory. So I gave it to the kid (BBT) just because it's newer.

I agree with you about Kate. She was real and awesome where Ziva is far less believable as a real world agent. She does make for good TV I guess....
ReplyDeleteI sincerely dislike both House (which used to be amazing but has gone so far downhill as to be unrecognizable) and True Blood (which has never interested me at all), so I just voted with my bracket and went for True Blood. The second poll was easy, NCIS all the way. I love that show. Though it's a bit weird that Kate is in the picture instead of Ziva, given that she hasn't been around since Season 2. Or it could just be my preferences peaking through, I always found Kate quite annoying, I find Ziva to be a much more interesting and likeable character.
ReplyDeleteWatched House for a while, really liked NCIS for a while, but I quit after some seasons, because it didn't really offer anything new for me and just got boring. I occasionally still watch an NCIS episode every now and then, but that's it.
ReplyDeleteTrue Blood is a pretty solid show. It has its weaknesses, but I actually like it a lot even though the last 2 or 3 episodes of season 3 were pretty much the weakest in the entire show's history. But still looking forward to season 4.
TBBT is one of my fav sitcoms that is not on FX or NBC, seasons 3 & 4 were really funny.
So True Blood & TBBT for me today.
