  1. I voted for 'The Sopranos' only, as it's the only one I've seen of the four. And it's awards tally is incredible for only 6 seasons! :O

    ReplyDelete
  2. This was a tough one for me on both polls!

I voted MASH since it is one of the best shows of all time historically speaking, but I debated for a long time before doing so. the Sopranos is more current and could easily have more fans on the site....

Farscape is one of the best SciFi series ever on the SciFi Channel, but Charmed ran for so many years and is more current

In the end I went for MASH and Farscape, but these are 2 choices I could easily regret tomorrow...

    ReplyDelete
  3. The only one I've seen out of the four here is Charmed so I voted that, and I also voted The Sopranos because I've heard so many good things about it.

    ReplyDelete
  4. same
Sopranos is one of my all time favs and I never liked MASH
and the other 2 shows are **** imo :P

  5. I hope The Sopranos and Farscape will do okay.

I've seen the first 5-6 episodes of The Sopranos 2 years ago, I quite liked it but I didn't go further. I plan on doing so by the end of the year. So I voted for The Sopranos.

And I voted for Farscape, because I don't like Charmed (I've seen a couple of episodes when I was young), because I chose Farscape in my bracket and because I hear Farscape is complex sci-fi (so it's quite the opposite of Charmed, actually).

It's like the clash of the titans in the first poll : 2 major dramas that left their print over their decade and television, and they both had gazillions prizes and nominations. The Sopranos is the 2nd most awarded drama ever at the Emmys (21 Emmy Awards). I think the 1st is The West Wing (25 Emmys) and the 3rd is 24 (20 Emmys).

So good luck to Tony Soprano and Michael Crichton, I'm gonna need you guys to win (Scrubs and Criminal Minds already lost, I voted for them so I couldn't have done a worst start in the competition).

  6. I voted for The Sopranos and Charmed. Charmed was a childhood favorite of mine, and to this day Piper's one-liners are hysterical to me.

    ReplyDelete
  7. lol exactly the same here!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. I voted MASH and Charmed, as these are the only shows out of these I've ever watched.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I voted for MASH and Farscape, both shows were just brilliant!

    ReplyDelete
  10. MASH is a classic :). Best series finale of all time!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I voted for MASH and Farscape.  The fact that Farscape is still losing to Charmed right now has shaken my faith in humanity.

    ReplyDelete
  12. went for Farscape.  It was my "Supernatural" before Supernatural came out :)  Will always have a soft spot for Ben Browder.

    ReplyDelete
  13. This is just a guess, but I think your going to vote for TVD when the time comes...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Charmed is so underrated...
Of course I'm not delusional, it was never groundbreaking or anything, but it was enjoyable, often really funny, and every once in a while it hit you with a heavy episode that was brilliant. As far as I'm concerned Holly Marie Combs mops the floor with Sarah Michelle Gellar as an actress, and the woman could freeze or blow stuff up with her hands... I mean seriously. It had many many flaws but the cast was decent and the storyline was tolerable.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I completely agreed with you up until the bit about SMG. I'm assuming you haven't watched Buffy and if you have, you can't have been paying attention, because Sarah was incredible in that role. Especially in episodes like "The Body" which prove that she deserves a lot more credit as an actress.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wilson, I'm surprised at you.  Normally, you seem to have very sound judgement when it comes to television.  *shakes head*

Holly Marie Combs is a decent actress but one wouldn't be able to tell that from Charmed.  You'd have to go back and watch Picket Fences.  Charmed was filled with laughably nonsensical plots that were endlessly recycled, barely tolerable wooden performances, and special effects that you could see on public access television.

It maddens me that this show is still on TNT before Supernatural in the morning.  I'd trade it for Gellar and Buffy reruns any day.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No, I think SMG is an awesome actress. I just must have gotten more from HMC than SMG when I watched both shows.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I always felt Charmed was consistently mediocre, but fun. So I see your point.

I did wonder if it would have lasted as long as it did if not for the wardrobes of Milano and MacGowan though....

Loved Buffy, but never thought much of either SMG or HML as actresses I guess. Both did their jobs well enough, but never left me in awe.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm actually surprised Buffy reruns aren't also on. Angel is.. I watched all these shows and loved all of them, so it annoys me when it "ruins people's faith in humanity" that I'd vote for a show that I enjoyed as much as the other shows that person uses to dis my opinion with in the first place.

Not to be rude or anything but I'd trust my own judgement over yours any day. ;)
I've already stated that the plot was "tolerable" but not good, and that I really just watched it for the interaction of the lead characters for the one-liners, and the graphics were no worse than any other late 90s show with a low budget on the WB (aka Buffy, except of course that Buffy has better makeup)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Consistently mediocre but fun is exactly how it was. Good way to put it.

I do believe half-naked women on tv every week would be a way to get people watching. :P

    ReplyDelete
  21. Touché, Wilson.  My apologies if there was any offense taken. Maybe I'm just a stickler for language in these competitions, as I'm very careful to vote for "best" and not "favorite."  I never fault someone for liking what they will.  I guess I get a bit specific with these things.Once again, I apologize.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Objectivity fell out of this competition last year when Supernatural and Vampire Diaries were the finale two left in the game. It's all men for themselves now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's why the shows I vote for never win.  I'm always trying to vote for "best" objectively, not "favorite" subjectively.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Out of interest, when was the last time you watched both shows? Because despite the fact Charmed was the first genre show I really got into (I watched it all the time whilst growing up), I would still put Buffy above it without a second thought. And your last sentence implies you just preferred Holly's character, so maybe that's why you choose her over Sarah?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Can people please just rewatch Buffy? Sarah is a consistently underrated actress who deserves a lot more credit than she gets for the show.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can't speak for Supernatural as I've never seen it, but Vampire Diaries has gone on to become such an incredible show and seems to be looked down upon because it's on the CW. Not saying it's the best on the list but give it some credit :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've seen Buffy so many times that I think I'd rather have September get here so I can start watching Ringer.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Let me say that if this were a poll of Buffy Vs Charmed, and I were being objective, I would vote for Buffy. BTVS is a classic in the sense that it did a lot for tv that reverberates in tv and media to this day (Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, etc.) but
I am more likely to sit down and watch a Charmed repeat than a Buffy repeat simply because I enjoy the dynamic more. I have had a crush on HMC and Alyssa Milano for a very long time, and I enjoy their characters. However, of course I don't mind Buffy, but sometimes I liked the characters around her more. (Willow, for example.)

SIDENOTE: According to my uncle's facebook post, his sister got to take Alyson Hannigan, her daughter, and her awesome husband Alex on a tour of her art gallery today...Just a couple hours ago. O_O Talk about amazing. lol

    ReplyDelete
  29. I watch the Vampire Diaries. ;)
I started to watch it to make fun of how awful it was at the beginning of the season, but somewhere along the way it got really violent and dark (much like a certain show that came on right after it called Supernatural) and then it became really twisty and the acting became bearable. It is still nauseating for its aiming at the doe-eyed female masses, but there's enough torture and generous gore to keep me interested. Katherine is awesome.

However, it should not have been in the final 2 of a "Best show Ever" competition. I'm not against SPN being up there because of what they accomplished in 5 years on tv but there have been other shows that might've fit that bill better as well.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I almost didn't watch it at first because it looked so cheesy. So glad I gave it a go though because every episode ups the ante and they manage to fit more twists and turns into each episode than most shows manage in a whole season. If it continues at this rate then I reckon it will deserve to be top two, but it might be a little early yet.

I really ought to watch SPN, I know a lot of people who are really into it but for some reason I've just never got round to it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow. That's wild because a LOT of things in TVD is obviously heavily influenced by SPN. A LOT...

    ReplyDelete
  32. What about the Scooby dynamic?! :) The only reason I would choose to rewatch Charmed is because the episodes are more self contained - if I watch one Buffy episode it turns into five because I get pulled back into the story arc and want to watch more.

Wow, your uncles sister is incredibly lucky! I would loveeee to meet them, they seem like such nice people. (Is their daughter as adorable in real life?)

    ReplyDelete
  33. At least tell me her acting was great :)

Super excited for Ringer, it'll be great to have her back on TV and the show's premise looks really interesting. And she gets to play two characters!

    ReplyDelete
  34. This can not be denied. Not only was it the best series finale, it had the most concurrent viewers as well. It was only beaten a few years ago, by the Super Bowl. But that's not a weekly tv-series, so it doesn't count :P

    ReplyDelete
  35. The tone of certain scenes, Damon's overuse of the word "dick" is much like Dean, the brotherly relationship (not to mention their car) the violence (SPN gets away with a lot of ultraviolence and  some of that stuff has since happened on TVD...) If you watch (especially seasons 3-5) you'll know what I'm talking about. A bunch of little things here and there that strike me as I am watching. Sort've like when I'm watching SPN and suddenly "Whoa, that was totally BTVS" lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm pretty sure I've already covered that...

    ReplyDelete
  37. There is no doubt that some episodes of BTVS would not have worked whatsoever without SMG nailing the performance.

The thing about great actors for me is that they give me something "unexpected" consistently. Some emotion, feeling or look I wouldn't put in a particular scene, but it raises the scene to another level.

Sarah, to me, is great at showing me what I expected in scenes, but she doesn't surprise me very often. That's not to say her performances are good or even great on Buffy... just that she never awed me.

Hope that makes sense more. Few actors leave me in awe, so it's not such a bad thing.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wow I'm doing crap with my predictions.

    ReplyDelete
  39. MASH

It's the only thing I've seen from the beginning to end for must have been 10 times at least.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yep. HMC... not sure why my finger (or mind) went to "L".

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with all the similarities you point out, but don't see why you say Supernatural influenced those aspects in TVD. TVD's first books were written more than a decade BEFORE SPN.

It would be like saying ChristianSlater influncedhow Jack Nicholson speaks.

    ReplyDelete
  42. For me there were moments like that, but I get what you mean. Who would you class as a great actor?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Me too. Looks like today will be the third day I've picked one wrong..

    ReplyDelete
  44. There are a few that always come to mind first when I think of great actors... Edward Norton, Christian Bale, Robert Duvall, Colin Firth, Don Cheadel,  are more movie actors, but Bryan Cranston, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Emerson, Ian McShane, Walter Coggins  and Edward James Olmos...

For women maybe like Glenn Close, Meryl Streep, Jody Foster, Hellen Mirren, and Melissa Leo...TV types like Frances Conroy, Rachel Griffiths, Katey Sagal, Michelle Forbes, and Molly Parker.... and in smaller roles actresses like Paula Malcomson.

Of the younger crowd I think Dakotah Fanning, Natalie Portman, Ellen Page, Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan - Jake Gyllenhaal, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Ryan Gosling, and Jesse Eissenberg impress me in most roles I've seen them do..

    ReplyDelete
  45. She did a movie a while back called Veronika Decides To Die (based on the book), which she was really great in. But most of the other work she's done since Buffy haven't been good choices.

From the ones you've named that I've actually seen I agree, though I would add newcomers such as Hailee Steinfeld and Jennifer Lawrence to the mix.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Don't watch any of these, so went with my bracket and voted M*A*S*H* and Charmed.

    ReplyDelete

  48. @ Darq:
Since my posts are becoming 1 letter in length:
The show is NOTHING like the books. If memory serves me, Elena's character isn't even around for half of the series... she doesn't have a brother, she dies or something,  and eventually it's all from Damon'sperspective. Of course some of the happenings were in the books, but they have gone in a completely different direction, so the books are more a namesake than anythingelse at this point. It's like saying that just because a book was written first, it's automatically immune to being influenced by current events when its brought to television.
I don't believe that arguement holds up at all except in the case that people try to say its a rip off of twilight (which I find hysterical, by the way.) The show doesn't equal the book. That's that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Charmed and ol' school M.A.S.H cant argue with a classic.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I thought the Friends finale had higher ratings... (Idk for sure, just a thought)

    ReplyDelete
  51. I REALLY liked Jennifer Lawrence in Winter's Bone! She was amazing.

Hailey was good in True Grit, but it was such a character it's hard to know if she got that one role or she will nail all her roles. Both were very good though !!

    ReplyDelete
  52. She really was. Which is why I'm so happy she got cast as the lead in The Hunger Games (love the books).

Guess we'll find out soon, she's become so sought after in Hollywood that it won't be long before she's on screen again.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Looking forward to Hunger Games too. I thought she might play too old for the role compared to say Hailee Steinfeld, Aibgail Breslin or Chloe Moretz or other rumored actresses, but Jennifer has that inner strength to pull off the role of KAtniss for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I thought so too, but it means that her aging between the films will be less noticeable and given how similar her WB character was, she definitely has the acting chops to pull it off. And I love how she's a huge fan of the books who gets how important everything is to the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  55. For sure! Passion about a project - true passion and not faked press passion -  can make the difference between doing an adequate job and giving the performance of a lifetime...

    ReplyDelete
  56. To avoid my post squishing at the side :)

Yeah, all the interviews with her really make you feel like she knows the character. She said something about how Katniss' face should look broken when she kills someone and that pretty much had me (and the director apparently) convinced.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Aw, too bad I missed it.  I would have voted for Farscape.  And MASH hands down for me.

    ReplyDelete
  58. LIKE!!! LIKE!!! LIKE!!!! TOTALLY AGREE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. no, only a recent super bowl ever beat MASH's series finale, though Friends' was pretty high too.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You will love The Sopranos. I'm glad you're going to see it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I was away at this time. I'm so sorry I didn't have the chance to vote for The Sopranos, and to say how much I loved that show. I loved MASH also, but The Sopranos has the distinction of being the first series show to draw me in, and also was the one to start me on the habit of going to the video store to get TV shows I don't have the stations to. I couldn't wait for the season to end and the video sets to come so I could rent them, or else I'd get a friend to tape it for me.

This is the one poll where I actually carefully watched both shows and loved them both. But in the same way that MASH was lighthearted but with a deeper meaning related to war, The Sopranos was on the surface a mob story, but spoke of the deep, painful, psychological scars that motivate us.

Not to mention, the acting of Gandolfini and Falco blew everyone else out of the water, even LOST's holy triumvirate of O'Quinn, Emerson, and Fox. Just a wonder to see.

Sorry The Sopranos didn't win, but if it had, I'd have a difficult decision if it came down to The Sopranos vs. LOST.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Charmed is the best American television series. All 8 seasons are best and mind blowing. This is worth show to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  63. What darq said. The character traits (and names) you talk about were established in the TVD books which were written well before SPN was first on the air.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I rewatched about 10 episodes of Buffy a month or so ago for my own mini marathon of Buffy (to go back to some classics like "Hush") but I didn't feel any more for her.

However, why do you think I'm itching for "Ringer" -- Duh, Sarah Michelle Gellar. She's back on tv and I'm ready because I do really think she's a good actress.

    ReplyDelete
  65. MASH Beats pretty much anything IMO, so voted for that. I watched like two Charmed episodes but those were incredibly stupid. I never watched the other two
