Spoiler TV: The Best TV Show Competition 2011 - Day 2 - Flashforward vs. Scrubs & Alias vs. The X-Files

Jun 14, 2011

Hey Guys,

Yesterday saw very comfortable, if not particularly impressive wins for both 'Castle' & 'Chuck'. Even though both seemed to put on strong performances both will need stronger showings in future round to have any chance of reaching the latter stages of the competition. Regardless, it's a decent opening round score for both who will face each other in Round Two.

Today sees one show that perhaps ran for not enough time, 'Flashforward' taking on a show which definitely ran just a bit too long, 'Scrubs' in a poll sure to split opinions down the middle. Also we see the J.J.Abrams spy thriller Alias taking on the biggest show of the nineties outside of the sitcom genre, paranormal mega-hit 'The X-Files.'

The rules for, for anyone new to the competition is very simple. There will be new sets of shows against each other every day in a new set of polls... simply vote for your favourite and the show with the most votes will win that days poll and head into the next round.

Don't forget to spread the word, and tweet out the competition to friends as well as facebook liking the post...
Also if you are taking part in the prediction competition, don't forget to follow your scores HERE

All that's left to say, is good luck to every show...
... and let the battles begin!

  1. I voted Scrubs as I never found Flashforward anything other than mediocre. Scrubs at least was quite funny for a while!
Also voted for The X-Files as it's a great show that was also a cultural phenomenon...

  2. of course the x-files, one of the best shows ever

  3. Scrubs & Alias because I didn't watch the other two.
Not only that though, Loved Scrubs and Alias (first 3 seasons) remains one of my favourite show.

  4. Though it should have ended sooner Scrubs was a great show whereas FF although having a lot of potential just was a big mess of a show.
Never really liked Alias and X-FIles still is one of my fav shows, easy choices.

  5. Scrubs and X-files... although I loved Alias too... :/

  6. X-Files by far beats out a crappy show like Alias, which by the way, completely ripped off their premise from La Femme Nikita.

  7. Scrubs and X-Files for me.

Personally I think X-Files was overrated in its prime, but now that it's been off the air for some years... I think it's underrated. Luckily I think many people on here still worship at the altar of Spooky. I prefer the altar of a certain one-armed, tenuously aligned bad ass... just sayin.

Scrubs was one of the best comedies ever in its first 4 to 6 years. I think the last few lowered it considerably overall. It still remains  a series you can watch over and over and enjoy..... excluding the final year.

  8. I can never decide if LFN was held back by having no budget or having no budget helped shape it into the cult series it was..... Awesome show either way!

  10. Scrubs and X-Files.

  11. I never watched Flashforward, and I like the earlier seasons of Scrubs, so I went with Scrubs in the first poll, and I as I never watched either Alias or The X-Files, I voted with my bracket and went for the latter.

  12. Don't watch any of them. But I put Scrubs and The X files in my bracket, so that's what I voted for.

  13. Scrubs and Alias.

The first poll was a no-brainer : Scrubs for the win. I currently watch the show for the first time (I watched the season 6 premiere yesterday) and this is a great comedy. I often complain about how every episode looks the same and I loathe the usual pop music filled/sanctimonious endings (you have no idea how much I hate when characters stop being funny for 4 minutes at the end of each episode when JD's inner voice is giving his final speech of the week, it's like they don't assume what they did). The situations are always the same, JD's speeches all look the same, there's no evolution, etc. That's why I take my time watching this show : I can't watch more than 2-3 episodes in a row, because all episodes look alike. But having 17 great minutes of comedy per episode is pretty great too. Besides, FlashForward is a mediocre show (great pitch, awful execution), so Scrubs deserves to win despite everything I said.

I voted Alias in the second poll. I haven't seen X-Files (yet). If I had, perhaps would I have voted for it, I hear it's a very good show, but so is Alias : the first two seasons of Alias are some of the best stuff I've ever seen on TV. Granted, season 3 and most of season 4 were poor (the 5th season was surprisingly enjoyable and entertaining even if the sci-fi barrier was crossed over big time, Alias was no longer a spy show), but I can't forget the thrill I had watching the first two seasons.

  14. You can not outdo Alias.  My first experience was seeing it on reruns on TNT and saw one of the last two episodes of season 4 where they just go to Russia and see the big red ball.  I was instantly hooked. I watched it, without understanding, for a long time and bought all the DVDs later.  I am glad I noticed the show after it was off the air because I would have been furious with all the cliffhangers they left had I watched it on TV.  Alias changed my life and I cannot express its praises enough.  It is the show that made J.J. who he is and because of Alias came Lost, then Star Trek, then Fringe.  You cannot deny the power Alias has.

My personal favorite seasons are 2 and 4.  I loved Lena Olin as Irina and Mia Maestro as Nadia.  I was so mad when Nadia died but then she showed in the final season as a hallucination so I was happy.  Long live Alias!

  15. Scrubs and X-Files. Looks like I'm not alone in these choices.

  16. It's recorded my friend! :P

I'll check with ODI on it's completion...

  17. I only watched a few episodes of FlashForward and never seen Scrubs so I decided to pass on that. I really enjoyed Alias and the few episodes of The X-Files that I have seen were really good. After thinking about it, I went ahead and chose Alias!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I checked on here earlier today and my predictions were losing, but now they're WINNING :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. How is Scrubs losing to FlashForward? Yeah, FF got better before the end, but Scrubs never really did get bad AND it features some of TV's best moments/episodes, IMO.

I never watched Alias, and I've only seen half an episode of X-Files, so I didn't vote on that one.

    ReplyDelete
  20. sorry, but they're kinda losing

    ReplyDelete
  21. Scrubs and X-Files, even though I like Flashforward and Alias better. I'm just trying to guess who everyone else will choose.

    ReplyDelete
  22. FlashForward for the first one, obviously. I loved that whacky sci-fi show, even if it was a mess at the end. The cast was incredibly talented (it also helped that half of them were in LOST) and the idea was intriguing. I remember fighting for that show until the end.

X-Files, what would we do without you? You transformed the way people look at science-fiction and crime-solving in general. Who came up with the Monster of the Week? You did! Who had one of the strongest and most kickass female characters to grace our television screens? You did! Who told a story about believing and love and friendship and trust, while still managing to scare the hell out of half your audience? You did! The X-Files was bloody brilliant. Even the last seasons were better than half of the stuff that's airing now. The characters were so dynamic and fascinating, the storylines were creepy and funny at the same time, and the acting was incredible. Yeah, I freaking love the X-Files.

  23. It's like the antithesis of what you SHOULD be doing in these polls.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You have to take into account the demographics of this site...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Okay. Guess I have to take that back.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I kinda expected it, but it was losing for a good half the day. a bit surprised at this point. It did well last year though as well... bizarrely :P

Bizarrely of course being because Flashforward is a pile of pap...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Had Scrubs and X-Files in my Brackets, but voted for Scrubs and Alias since it was my first step into the J.J. Abrams-verse and never followed Scully and Mulder.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Even considering how this site skews demographically.... $!%&^@%@% is FF winning?
IT was adequate at its best and did not even last a full season. Scrubs is one of the best comedies of its era and lasted 8 seasons(I refuse to count the 9th season). Longevity doesn't equate to greatness I know, but being cancelled in your first season rarely does either.

Oh well, rant over. It's only one round lost since I had it losing to the juggernaut that is Castle anyway....

    ReplyDelete
  29. actually FF did last a full season

    ReplyDelete
  30. True. My bad. I guess the official cancellation came after a full season. It just FELT like it didn't since it had that huge hiatus and was doomed from that point on.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I voted Scrubs and X-Files but it was close.

I strongly disliked Scrubs and FlashForward so I voted for Scrubs simply because it was more successful.

When it comes to the X-Files and Alias I was tempted to vote Alias but didn't.  Those last few seasons of X-Files after Duchovny left were a mess and so were a lot of the shows right before.  Alias was more consistent but X-Files was a pop culture phenomenon.  X-Files ftw.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Alias was a much better La Femme Nikita and became something so much more than that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm telling you, Scrubs doesn't have a strong enough online fanbase, and FF has a built-in fanbase for some people who liked Lost and followed into FF... Even though I don't see why anyone WOULD vote for FF, it's what I expected to win because of these reasons... So far, it seems my reasoning was right, (even though my bracket doesn't match my voting habits, Go SCRUBS!!!)

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1st Poll: Wasn't a fan of either, but voted for Scrubs as at least it hit a pretty good stride.

2nd Poll: Now here is where I had a problem. Love both shows, in fact I just finished rewatching Alias a week ago and started my rewatch of The X-Files. But I just have to cast my vote for The X-Files.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Which is exactly why my predicted bracket and my favorites are so different in all but one of the sections.  Predict with your head, vote with your heart.  That's the name of the game in this contest.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Exactly. My bracket has yet to 100% match my voting.

Alias is such an under-rated show, i really wish more people watch(ed) it.

  39. Come on, we're gonna let Flashforward win?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't even watch Scrubs but I'm really hoping it wins, cause it's what I put on my bracket..

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't think Scrubs will win, so my bracket will be wrong :( :(

    ReplyDelete
  42. I could have guessed FlashForward would win.  You know why?  BECAUSE IT WAS LOADED, OK?!?!?!?  :-P

    ReplyDelete
  43. to bad that alias didn't "wan" :(

    ReplyDelete
  44. How the hell did FF beat Scrubs?! What a giggle.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Scrubs and X-Files.  Easy choices for me today.
