HBO's fantasy series Game Of Thrones continues its slow but steady ratings growth. Episode 8 on Sunday hit new series highs in both of its airings -- at 9 PM: 2.7 million, up 13% from last week; and at 11 PM: 900,000, for a combined 3.6 million viewers for the night. Since the premiere, Game of Thrones' audience has grown 22%.

  1. Awesome news!

It's gone up every week but one if I recall!

  2. I think only 1x06 was the exception, although I think 1x07 had a bit lower rating than 1x05, but I could be wrong. Great news nevertheless.

  3. That's incredible :D! I love this show XD. I hope we continue the upwards trend into the season finale and that many people will buy the DVDs in anticipation of S2. If S2 builds on S3, then perhaps A) Book 3 will actually be split in two and B) the FX budget will increase accordingly.

  5. Great news indeed.....Why increase the FX budget necessarily? the show has great visuals...unless you mean increase it for the content of the third book...
In any case, in order to properly adapt the third book, the show needs to either get a season of 18-20 episodes, or split the book into two seasons, which is probably what HBO will do, since they're not into the whole 20 eppie seasons...if i recall, the only exceptions are entourage season 3 (HA!) and Sopranos season 6.
In any case, great news! i'm glad people are sticking around for the show and more people are watching each week!

  6. While the show is visually stunning with regards to cinematography, the FX budget could be better when it comes to having more Direwolf screen time, White Walkers, fighting, etc.

That aside, yes, I specifically meant with regards to the demands of S3. *SPOILERS* Firstly, we're heading to many more locations at once (10 or 15 instead of the current 5 or 6). Secondly, more battles means more money. Thirdly, more supernatural stuff means more money.*END SPOILERS*I agree that Book 3 should be two seasons, which is what D&D and Martin himself are hoping. I'm still a bit concerned about next season (only10episodeS2gate), but we'll see how it goes :).

  7. For me an FX increase could mean getting rid of the dogs and getting CGI Dire wolves.....

  8. If you think about iit, the visual effects budget may not be completely depleted. We havent' seen much heave FX work as of yet. I do hope that season 2 will get 12 episodes, and hopefully D&D can persuade HBO to do just so. Remember, not all is set in stone!

S03 will need to be CGI heavy indeed. Regarding the wolves....the way i ssee it they're gonna take one of three routes here....take slightly larger dogs/wolfs to do the job and leave it at that...... CGI them in completely or CGI them in partially, with use of motion capture and other techniques (though that last one is far less likely seeing as dogs don't like to be dressed up in black suits with hundreds of dots on them......it's a canine thing...)
