Polls are like ice cream, laughing babies and kittens : everybody loves them.

So I figured it could be nice to post a new poll each day, each one based on the same question : what is your favourite season of [name of a popular show] ?

Today's poll is about the first three seasons of Breaking Bad : which one do you like the most ? You can comment on your choices below.

  1. good timing as I'm almost done with my rewatch

    I voted S2
I know a lot of people loved season 3 but imo it was a little bit too slow, although I loved all the Hank stuff... but sometimes it dragged too much
Season 1 was great as well but too short to be considered for me here :P

  2. It was close between season 2 and 3 but the last 2 episodes of season 3 were amazing so thats why voted for season 3

  3. season 3 for me... I watched the show after 3 seasons had aired and if I hadn't heard such great things about the show, I would not have gone on to watch season 2 after I watched season 1 which was good but nothing great... Season 2 really set the tone for me, and in season 2 I became a fan of the show... But season 3 just outdid everything, it was just amazing overall...

  4. This was tough. All 3 seasons have been excellent. S1 was only 7 episodes, so I think it loses for not giving us enough Breaking Bad. Otherwise, the last few episodes of S3 were beyond the usual level of compellingly brilliant and I wasn't a huge fan of the plane crash reveal in S2.

  5. Generally comparing seasons can be tought with some shows, but asking which Breaking Bad season is best is just downright unfair!

They are all so good in their own ways. The initial exposure of Season One, The chracter development of Season Two and the downright mayhem of Season Three. Ugh!

I guess I will go Season Three since it had arguably 2 or 3 of the best episodes of any series last year.

  6. Season 3 of course. Ending episode was superb.

The half/full-measure philosophy was just so great. And Walt became a real badass, and Jesse he became more like the real anti-hero of the show like Walt is.

Acting vise Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston was also at their best in season 3.

  7. i dont like kittens.
and voted for season 2 - the whole teddy bear and plane stuff was just amazing. Of course, season 3 finale episodes were like, um, *one hundred adjectives, but in fact, the first part when Walter wasnt cooking and just struggled with his wife was boring.
nevertheless, you should give us more simple questions in the beginning :)

  8. Season 1 was great, had an unique atmosphere, and a perfect pace throughout the seven episodes, too bad it feels a little incomplete because of the writers strike (it should have been of 10 episodes, not 7).

Season 2 was definitely better, it had a perfectly planned 13-part season that wrapped in an amazing manner with the plane crash, though it was a little light on the epic stuff.Season 3 had a slow start, a couple of weak episodes after the premiere and before "Sunset", but with that episode and "One Minute" it reached unbelievable levels that were further advanced by "Fly", "Half Measures" and "Full Measure", so even though it had some weak spot, Season 3 is the better (in my opinion of course) because of all the "perfect" episodes it got.

  9. 1 > 3 > 2 for me. Of course I'm not a big fan of overly realistic stories, and since the show has stressed realism the further it goes along, it makes sense that I would like Season 1 so much better than 2 or 3. Also, back in Season 1 Walt was still using his chemistry knowledge for more than just cooking, and I always loved to see what crazy things he would come up with and what creative ways he would be able to concoct in order to get out of a jam. Now he just resorts to not-so-creative violence. Also back in Season 1 Skylar and Walter, Jr. were much more bearable to me.

  10. Agreed. I still really like the show but I miss that S1 levity sometimes.

  11. For me BB got better every season. The first one was good, but a bit too slow and I think because of the writer's strike it ended a bit prematurely. S2 picked up where s1 left us, had this amazing thing with the bear in the pool mystery slowly building up during the season. It wrapped up the happening from s1 and thenthings really started off.
But s3 was maybe the best thing ever on TV, just fucking awesome in every single way. Don't know how they want to top that in s4, but I'm looking forward to it!

  12. Season 1 starts off on a high note.  I think the first three episodes are a nearly perfect balance of suspense, horror, and dark comedy.  The next couple episodes have their moments, but at times move into "silly" territory.  In particular, I think the whole "KENWINS" thing is dumb.  The last two episodes recover, although not to the standard set by the first three.

Season 2 is solid throughout.  If I graded, I'd probably give them all A or A- except "Mandala" and "Better Call Saul".  I may be in the minority on this, but even as a shameless fan of Bob Odenkirk I can't get past the sheer silliness of his introductory ep.  "Phoenix" is probably a top 3 episode for me.  I don't ever remember being put in a state of shock such as the one I was in after watching the final scene with Jane.  The plane collision at the end of the season doesn't bother me like it does a lot of other people.  Sure it's a bit "in your face" symbolic and dramatic, but seems an appropriate payoff after the season long buildup.

Season 3 is solid throughout as well.  Sure it starts off slow.  But it's a slow build, not a boring slow.  The drama is done well; the cousins are weirdly intriguing; and Mike works himself into the picture.  The only dud here is "Green Light" which gets overly cartoonish for my taste.  At times I can't tell if I'm watching badass Walter or badass Hal (what did Reese do this time?!).  "Sunset" is easily the best episode they've done to date.  A point I'll argue with anyone.  "One Minute" and the "Measures" duo are top caliber, as are most others in the second half.

So it's a tough call between seasons 2 and 3 but I think I need to go with 3.  While I do appreciate the overall cohesiveness of Season 2, maybe one of the "tightest" seasons of TV I can recall, I like the more haphazard style of Season 3.  In Season 2, you know the writers know where they are going, and it is awesome to watch everything unfold.  But Season 3 gives a stronger impression that all bets are off which adds to the overall tension.  It's classical versus jazz, and I prefer jazz.
