It was interesting to "step into" the story after the invasion has already taken place. I'm not sure it worked too well for me personally. Generally we enter as the invasion begins and see the struggle from beginning to end. We get to know the characters and then see the evolution as the war progresses.
It felt somewhat flat to me and I don't know why exactly. I liked the characters and felt I got to know a few of them fairly well , but none drew me in to really care. Like the heartfelt moment of normalcy and hope when Professor Tom Mason's son Matt got his skateboard like toy... Every one watched and felt inner happiness and hope and I felt almost nothing... it was a wasted moment on me for the most part.
As a premiere I guess I give it a B- or C+. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as I hoped either. I think I has potential and I liked enough to tune in again for an episode or two. If it doesn't come together better and doesn't draw me in more, I won't last much longer tho...
Always been a big Noah Wyle fan from the ER days, thought he did well. Good group of characters, a few scenes didn't quite work for me in the premiere, but the second episode was very good in general... The key thing is that it kept me hooked and the aliens weren't the main enemies of the episode. That always bodes well...
As for the aliens, they look better than I thought they would, so I'm hopeful this could be really good! :D
Good timing as well that as GofT finishes this starts... TV just is refusing to let up :P
I liked it, but I didn't love it. It took me a while to get into it, the second hour was a lot better. The main problem I have is that I don't really like one character, except for the bad guy, he's fun.
One thing that bothered me was all of the children, and especially the son of the main character and the little boy soldier. WTF is that. They say they have 100 soldiers and 200 civilians? And THAT is a soldier? Damn. You people are in deep shit! And the son just annoyed me, I don't know why.
I'll keep on watching, but I didn't like the aliens too much. I hope I get more in to the characters and'll feel some more connected to them. Otherwise too bad and I'll just stick to The Walking Dead.
I like it, I like it a lot, I'm glad all the suspicion has been taken out as to if the aliens are of peace (V). The CGI is amazing and everything, and I really liked the whole concept, but it was just a solid, solid episode of TV. I'll be sticking around.
I like the biker guy whatever his name was. He was the only character that drew me in whatsoever.... and even that was minimal....I think the young kid as a soldier was just inserted for shock value. IF they did in fact have so many soldiers as stated. I can see teaching oldr kids to handle guns properly and train them to be soldiers, but not having them on tactical teams when there are other experienced combat veterans around.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

that 13-year old 'soldier' with gun kinda killed it for me but i'm going to give it a shot next week, promo looks promising.
