There are not many actors in the world who project cool as much as Idris Elba. Since shooting to fame as drug kingpin Stringer Bell in The Wire, Elba has gone on to Hollywood success as well as TV cameos in the likes of The Big C and The Office. However, many British TV viewers may know him best for his turn as the menacing DCI John Luther and BBC is airing four more episodes of the crime thriller later this month. We caught up with Elba earlier in the year to find out what he can tease us with ahead of the second series:

I had no idea watching The Wire that he's British. Good accent work. I'll look for this on BBCAmerica.
ReplyDeleteI had no clue at the time either!
ReplyDeleteSoon after I watched The Wire I happened to watch him in an old vampire series called Ultraviolet and thought to my self - Wow, that English accent is very convincing! Then I heard he was in fact British and therefore should have a convincing English "accent" and was impressed with his American accent on The Wire!
Unlike Saffron Borrows who is British and every time I hear her "accent" it sounds fake.... go figure.
Idris is such an amazing actor, I've been a fan of his since the Wire, and continue to be thanks to Luther. I love his work, his chose of roles, and look forward to watching him grow as actor. Luther is one of my favorite shows on the BBC, and thanks to my Iplayer I didn't have to wait for his show to hit the US. I am however disappointed that the series is only about five episodes, I don't think a show as intriguing as Luther should be condensed to what amounts to a mini series. I for one would love to see a third season of Luther, but I suppose that would be asking too much. OH Well!
