Here's the press release from HBO announcing a start date for filming on Season Two.

"Production for season two of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones is set to begin Monday, July 25. Once again, production for the series will be based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The series will shoot at the Paint Hall Studio in Belfast, as well as various locations in Northern Ireland. Additional locations will be announced as they are confirmed. The production continues to receive funding from Northern Ireland Screen.

Based on the best-selling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, the ten-episode first season of GAME OF THRONES launched April 17, exclusively on HBO, with the finale scheduled to debut Sunday, June 19.

Casting, writers and directors for season two will be announced as soon as they are confirmed."

  3. Assume it gets picked up to the point where season 5 is finished. What will they do until the next book comes out?

  4. I think GRRM needs to write fast! Ha!

Books 4 and 5 will be one season since they are chronologically the same time, just separated with half the character POVs in one book and all the other characters in the other book.  So assuming the series goes on for 4 years, that gives GRRM about 2 years to get the new book out and still provide D & D time to write the scripts and cast the season before filming begins.

The first 3 books in the series all were released about 2 years apart, but the last 2 books took more than 5 years each!

The theory is that GRRM had serious timeline issues he refers to his "Meereenese Knot" and the 2 middle books took so long to be published due to working out how to place all the characters onto the right continents and into the right cities at the correct time. He has said it's worked out now and he doesn't foresee any more problems that should hold him up.... but who knows if that can be trusted or knot... erm not.

  5. From what I've heard, the hope is that they would make Book 3 into TWO seasons and then Books 4 and 5 combined, reorganized, and made into THREE seasons.

On the other hand, I may just be repeating rumours and hopes and dreams being constantly spouted by the moderators over at winter-is-coming and westeros.

  6. Yeah all I have is rumors too, but they were from GRRM and HBO according to a fan that said each season will be 10 episodes and one book = one season. If true I am not a happy camper. I think the rest of the series should be 12 or 13 episodes per season.

  7. I think they should split up some of the books. I've not read them, but from what I hear there's a lot more material and I'd prefer them to spread it out more instead of trying to fit everything in the one season.

  8. YAY exciting ... I just hope GRRM finishes the series.  I don't know why they feel the need to limit the number of episodes/seasons to make it aesthetically round and pleasing - 10 episodes per season, 1 season=1book/2books, etc.  Just make what you need to make it make sense ... or something like that :)

  9. That was what I read too. They said they had an option to go 12 episodes next year for the same budget and they felt without more money it would be better to keep the same number of episodes.

That said, I hope great DVD sales and improved Season Two ratings make HBO increase the budget some for Season Three on.....

  10. You need to STFU.  I enjoy SpoilerTV and am addicted to Game of Thrones, but I have not read the series.  I scroll down the page and see "Jaime's book three" story line.  I didn't know he survived past tonight.  This is the third or fourth time you've spoiled an aspect of the show for me. Your comments are insightful, but you seriously need to watch what you say.

  11. Hey mate.

My advice is to not read through all the comments. We give plenty of warning about spoilers in the initial posts, and we can't expect people to not talk about the source material from the shows...

I'd perhaps advice just avoiding some of the longer comments which are studying in detail the TV/Show elements.

Hope this helps, and you keep loving GofT as much as all of us are! :)
