Update: 27th October 2011 Once again thought it was a good idea to bring this back up as we have a lot of new people visiting the site who email asking me what this all is :)
We have over 2500 users using the badgeville system now and we hope to roll out some more show specific badges soon, along with hopefully a cool personal notification system. Stay tuned for that.
Remember, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting me direct or by leaving a comment below.
Update: 10th August I thought I'd give this post a bump to the top now that we have a number of new people on the site. We now have a whole bunch of show specific badges and we have more coming so stay tuned. Also, we have over 1200 active users participating in the Badges system and this is growing daily.
Remember, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting me.
Update: 28th July Fringe Badges have been added.
Update: 26th July Just a little update. If you perform the actions with on a Post which has a single show label and one of the other generic labels eg Polls you will also get rewarded. Currently the other labels that are supported are Polls, Comic-Con and SpoilerTV Article
Update: 26th July We're pleased to announced the first of our planned Show Badges for SpoilerTV. The first show that we're providing Badges for is Supernatural, the winner of the recent Best TV Show competition. We'll be doing other shows in the order of their popularity within that competition.
Basically every time you Comment, Tweet, Facebook Like, Google+1 a post you will get a point for the show that is listed in the Label for a post
A big thanks to Adam for the Badges and for organising the level/badge order. Thanks to b3rt4 and thespoilergirl for helping me test the system.
Note: Posts with multiple shows in the labels will not count towards your shows badges. ie only posts with a Single show label for the shows that currently have badges will be counted.
Look out for other Show badges coming soon.
We hope you like this new addition. Please let us know if you have any questions or if there are any bugs etc.
Update: 18th July Hey all, since we stated the rewards/badges here at SpoilerTV and on the Movies section, one of the biggest issues that we've faced is that the system would log you off after a couple of hours and you'd have to remember to log in again.
Well we're please to announce that we believe we've fixed the issue and the system should keep you logged in for 1 Year, providing you don't delete your cookies.
At the top of the right hand sidebar you will see a Connect with Twitter. Click on this and authenticate. If you now refresh the page the button should no longer be displayed. Once you have done this you should now be logged into the system permanently.
Note 1: You must have cookies enabled for this to work. Note 2: This will be added to the Movies section later tonight.
If you have any problems/questions please leave them in the comments below.
Update: 18th July We've just added a new set of Movie Related badges for the Movies section. You get points for this badge by Commenting, Liking, +1'ing, Tweeting and just visiting the Movie section.
A big thanks to Adam for the badges and reward text.
Update: 13th July We've just added a new Reward/Level type to the system. It's called Trendsetter. You get points when you are first to do something eg your the first to leave a comment, like a post etc. Currently you're only awarded for the first Comments. We'll be adding detection for first Like, first Tweet, first to vote in a poll and first to Google+1 shortly.
NOTE: People just posting comments like "First!" to get points will have their comment deleted. Repeated violations will get you banned from the party :) Also anyone tweeting out, facebook liking, Google+1ing etc of old content just to earn points will be banned as well.
Play fair, it's more fun that way
Also, as you may have seen we've move the Login Status/Profile Points widget to the top floating menu now which should make it easier for you to see when your logged in etc.
Update: 5th July We're pleased to announce that you will also get points when you comment, liked, tweet etc on our Movies Section. The points you get there will be added to your overall points etc.
Update: 4th July We added a new set of badges that can be earned. These are the Social Guru badges. You earned these when you have performed a certain number of Tweets and Facebook Likes and Google +1's. The badge icons will be replaced with our own ones shortly. For now we're using some generic ones.
We also hope to have another set of awards/badges shortly called "Trendsetters". These are points/badges given out when you are the first person to perform an activity on an article. eg you're the first person to leave a Comment or Facebook like a post etc.
We've also made some backend changes to hopefully make the site load a little quicker.
Update: 1st July We've now updated the screenshots below to match the new version
Update: 30th June We've just rolled out a new version that should help fix a number of the issues as well as being a bit quicker. You'll also notice that the screenshots below no longer match entirely the system but they are fairly close. I'll let you discover the new features and I'll update the images tomorrow or whenever I get some time :)
Update: 29th June Thanks for all the great feedback that you sent through yesterday. Here are some updates for you.
1) The Recent Comments widget should now be back 2) We've reduced the time needed to wait between events so that they get captured 3) We've reduced the size of the scrolling activities widget 4) We're looking into the bug that forces you to log back into the system 5) Remember the best way to earn more points is via Facebook Like.
-------
Hey All,
We're pleased to announce an exciting new feature to SpoilerTV. As we mentioned recently we're doing away with the Monthly Commentator rewards and replacing them with this new feature.
The SpoilerTV Rewards and Loyalty System
Basically in the past we were only able to provide the monthly draw for people who made it into our top 10 commentators list. This was not fair for other users who help SpoilerTV in a number of other ways, eg ReTweeting our content, visiting the site, Facebook Liking, Voting on Polls, Clicking the Google+1 button etc.
So we're pleased to announce the new system
Overview Basically whenever you preform one of these actions, you'll be rewarded with points.
As you can see above each activity gives you a different set of points. As you get more points you get more badges.
Also you get badges for completing so many actions of a type. Lets say your a regular commentator on the site. Every time you make a comment you get some points. You get Comment Badges as you make so many comments. eg
When you unlock a new badge/level you'll see a notification popup to inform you of your award.
As you can see we've added some new widgets to the sidebar.
These allow you to see the top users for the week, month and all time and you can track your progress here.
Each month we'll take the top 10 people from the Monthly list and they will be entered into the prize draw for a free DVD Boxset of their choice.
You can track your progress by hovering your mouse over the header widget
The other widget that you'll see is that of the Activity Stream. This shows you all the recent badges/levels etc for all users across the site.
If you find the scrolling distracting you can simply click on the Pause link at the bottom of the widget.
Using the System When you first start you'll see the Signup/Sign In links.
Click the link and connect with your Twitter account. (We hope to support Facebook accounts soon) If you don't have a Twitter Account you can create one very quickly for the purposes of this system. It's simply used to log you in and track your progress
And that's it. Once connected any activity like commenting, voting on a poll, visiting the site, Facebook Liking, Using the Tweet button, clicking the Google +1 Button will all give you points.
You can click on My Rewards link to see all the badges/awards etc that you currently have as well as seeing how many points you need to get to the next level.
Clicking on the View Profile Button will give you more details
Changing your Settings The settings page allows you to upload your Avatar/Photo that you want to be seen as.
You can also turn off/on a variety of Notifications.
NOTES and KNOWN ISSUES 1) You are only rewarded if you are logged in. Make sure it shows you as logged in at the top right sidebar. 2) Anyone found spamming the comments or trying to game the system just to get more points will be banned. 3) This system will have some bugs/glitches/odd behaviours so please bare with us during the early days and report them in the comments below. 4) We hope to have rewards also for playing videos on the site shortly along with some other activities. 5) Only activities performed on the site currently count. eg Comments via email don't count along with ReTweeting via external clients. 6) The system currently logs you out after about an hour or so if you've not been on the site. We hope to extend this later. So make sure you Sign back in when you revisit the site. 7) We'll be add some new badges/rewards shortly.
If you have any comments/issues/bugs please leave a comment below.
We hope you enjoy this fun new addition to the site and we hope it brings more interaction with our readers etc. So get started, sign in and start interacting and getting points!
That's a great idea! I just love achievements and points. :P But can I please keep the Coffee Maker status, I loooove coffee! Just kidding, but really, nice work with this feature.
Hi Dark, Nice idea. I'm sure it'll be a great addition to the site/community. However, I would really appreciate it if you would consider making the Activities list optional. It is slowing my computer down like crazy, and you have to hit pause every time you go to a new page. The page loads fine, but the scrolling is so slow I wanna scream. Cheers, A
Hi Dark, I'm using Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1. Tried Internet Explorer 8, but it doesn't show right, though that may be that I hardly ever use IE and haven't looked at the set up too closely.
Thanks Lunaticbabe When you get time, can you try to install Google Chrome to see if that makes any difference. It will help to work out where the problem might exist.
Yep, it uses it's own authentication system, it just uses Twitter as a method to log in. It still stores a cookie I believe for our site to check that you're logged into the spoilertv badgeville system. So it still might be something blocking you although I can't off the top of my head think what it is.
So is there a way for us to see how active other people are? For example I see an interesting comment and I wonder what level this person is on, can I somehow click on his profile and see his ranks and badges and stuff?
That's a great idea Marie. It's not currently possible and something I'd not really thought about.
I'll check with the developers to see if there is anything we can do.
I think the main issue is that the comments system lets people "log in" with a large number of different systems eg Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc and this points system only supports Twitter etc
This is incredible :O! I've seen this over on the test site for a bit and have been rather intrigued . One of my friends has an app for his iphone that makes his daily schedule into a set of quests for which he gains experience, levels up, and unlocks achievements. I thought that this was AWESOME being a huge videogameophile. Now, since I come to SpoilerTV on a regular basis, I get to unlock achievements for existing :D. My life is complete XD.
Ha no problem. I might not have explained it very well.
Basically we're no longer doing the Commentator giveaway each month. We will replace it by picking, at random, one of the top 10 points scores for the month.
I'm also amused to see, amongst others, the DarkUFO account gaining badges :P. When I saw you become a Level 2 Site Fan I had to laugh. I imagine you're a *little* more than a Level 2 Site Fan at heart.
Ok, so initial thoughts: This is an interesting and immersive new element to the site. Since we're in the early phase, I can imagine you guys need feedback for how it's working on everyone's respective computers...
I'm on my MacBook Pro, and it is working on Firefox 5, but not Safari (whatever the latest version of Safari is, it just doesn't let me sign in) but now everything is laggy. Even typing this comment is really laggy and slow, and blocks of text are showing up sporadically. Scrolling is a bit abrasive, as it is loading so much at a time that it seems to over-compensate when I try to scroll down, and I end up zipping past the places I am trying to read. The little pop-up that displays when you post is nice, but it REALLY slows things down for a moment as well. I would suppose the activity lists are part of this slowdown as well. I currently only have this window and iTunes open and my laptop is a fairly fast one, so I can imagine people with slower computers could be having more serious issues.
I post this out of the hope that it is beneficial to the support of this really cool new feature, so that you guys get all the info out of me you need. :P
What a perfect way to have thousands of people advertise the site via several ginormous sources of info/networking.... (FB, Twitter, Google, etc.) If I didn't enjoy this so much, I'd call foul for exploitation :P (totally JK)
Ok, I made the mistake a long time ago to connect using FB instead of just making a disqus account, so my full name displays (which has always weirded me out lol) I was wondering if I had the ability to somehow change my account settings on disqus or whatever I'd need to, so that it could be a simple screen name? I noticed that it created a disqus account to have the name Wilson Crawford when it used my facebook info, and I was wondering if I could change that to be something else without having to change my name on facebook or deleting all my old posts for a new account?
Obviously I'm not expecting this to actually be possible, but hey, the worst you can say is no, right? (RIGHT!? lol)
The Disqus comments system and the new Badge System are 2 very different things, different accounts/logins etc.
1) In the Disqus System you should be able to change your Display Name by clicking on the Disqus button above the top comment box. I'm not 100% sure if it works for all login types. support@disqus.com should be able to sort that out.
2) As for the new Badge System, I think it picks up your Twitter Name as defined on your Twitter Account. I think you'll need to change your twitter name on twitter.com
I'm sorry but I don't want to do twitter or facebook. When is something like this done for those of us who don't want to do that? Or giveaways for that matter. I don't want to sound mean or anything but ...
There seems to be a myriad of activities that gain this and earn that and, at the moment, I seem to be lacking the patience to wade through it all. I'm just going to sign in and keep on doing what I do.
At any rate, thanks for keeping it fresh, Dark. This new program should interest a lot of people in the Spoiler TV community.
Ok So I officially enjoy this. Wayyyyy too much. I love the google +1 thing. :O The blue icon is so...satisfying lol and this is sort've like crack I guess, because I can't stop... I can't stop O.o
Yes, I did notice the difference between the two. I just need the disqus changed. I don't mind the badge system as much. I will go check this out now. :D
I saw something about adding video views to this system. If you're going to do that could you try and embed the videos with HD options when possible. When you posted videos during the May upfronts I went to other sites to view them more often than not because they had better quality video.
Same here...It's sort've difficult for me to watch videos on the spoilertv player... glitchy, slow, etc. Youtube is the better alternative half the time. :X
This is pretty much the reason I have a twitter. I don't even go on that site. I just click "tweet" on the competitions pages on occasion because it's easy and the only way to enter.
That's what I thought. I mean, it's not like everything has to be about winning something or a competition, but I just remember how this page encouragged those that are just reading to also comment and such (I'm still rather on the "lurking side" for that matter). This is not only a clever way of maybe getting more of those lurkers to "de-lurk" more often, but it's also very nice that it takes into account those who do just that - read and nothing else - by giving them one point per page visit (per day? *didn't quite understand that*).
All in all, it's a quite good idea.
(And I didn't intend to write this, but: All of the windows are not showing for me atm. at all. They were a couple of minutes ago though.)
Yep, it's a nice way to reward everyone :) and yes, it's 1 point per visit. Although there are some safeguards in place to stop people just refreshing the page ;)
As for the missing boxes/windows, I think the system is fairly busy so it maybe delayed slightly or try pressing CTRL-F5 to force a refresh.
A lot of people I know are really addicted to GetGlue which is kind of similar. I couldn't get into that though because it seemed so out of the way of what I normally do. With this I can just use SpoilerTV as I normally use it and get cool badges out of it.
I found a bug. When you use the pop-out feature for articles the badge bar(that says your points and rank) stays on top. Not a big deal but can cause some issues when trying to read things that way.
I'd say you have a hit on your hands with this new system. I like it and it has definitely made people comment more which is always more fun. Two things for the future though. It is annoying to log-in all the time. I keep SPTV on 24 hours so I am not used to having to log on to the site. Hopefully this can become an automatic thing, sort of a remember me every time I'm on button. Two, the activities is a bit obnoxious. Perhaps in the future it can be one of the things that we can customize like the home page. That was a tremendous asset to SPTV.
As always, thanks for making this site such a great place. I love how you are always improving the site and getting feedback. It's a sign of what a great site this is.
Thanks for working on it. Secretly I would like to take out the Activities section so that I can get the recent comments table again. I loved that because I could quickly see if anyone was commenting on a page I was interested in.
And I've noticed something else: I've been voting on two votes since I signed in to this system yesterday and I never got a point for that. So does this work for all polls or just certain ones?
Hi Dark, Haven't had time to try Google Chrome and Firefox 5 at home yet. (This is a work comp). But I can see that the smaller list of activities have made things a lot faster. I'll try and get to the other two things later today.
Just a follow up. I tried Google Chrome and had no problem at all. I don't have Firefox on my home computer, though. Tried Safari and it was the same trouble as Firefox v4.
Cool, I've passed it onto the devs. Looks like a big which hopefully they will be able to fix.
Can you try a CTRL-F5 on spoilertv.com to see if that refreshes it. or failing that see if it works in another browser to see if we can eliminate some things
Right. The devs have said they just rolled out a new version. Give it a min, then try loading up Firefox and trying again. Let me know what happens and I'll pass the info back to the devs
Will do, it definitely a bug in the system as it's affecting other users as well. I'm currently on a Skype call with the devs to try and work out what's going on.
Question: How do I see how many points I have? And also... I changed my username on yahoo but it's showing up as Sdjjs Jsdjsd on here... anyone know how to fix this?
1) To see your points, click on the My Rewards Tab (see here http://i.imgur.com/bNnDJ.png) 2) As for the Comments System. That's via the Disqus comments system. You'll have to change that via the Disqus Settings in the button above the comments (see screenshot http://i.imgur.com/ru25U.png)
Not that I'm exactly worried about it - just thought I'd query it though: I seem to have two accounts for some reason - even though I use twitter to log in (Jilly), a couple of times I've noticed I'm logged in with my fb name (Jilly Winchester) - and the fb one demotes me to key grip rather than stunt double (yeah that's what upsets me most - love being a stunt double LOL)I guess it wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have a multiple personality disorder :) Loving it though!
One question though: I voted in some polls already and was logged in but I did not seem to get anything on "increase your poll votes". Do I have to vote in a certain amount of polls? Or did I just do anything wrong?
There was an issue earlier where things were not getting counted.
As for the notifications for eg polls, you need to do so many before the next level is unlocked. Next time you vote in a poll, look at your points total first and then do the poll vote. You should see you points total go up a few seconds later. That will show that your poll votes are being counted.
this is probably a stupid question but what about Disqus? can I sign in with my disqus ID? or is it just twitter and facebook for now? I'm just wondering since I set up my Disqus especially for Spoiler TV
1) Disqus is the mechanism you use to post comments on the site. In order to use Disqus you can use a number of methods to log into the Disqus comments eg Disqus account, Facebook, Twitter, Openid etc This is purely for the comments
2) The new Badges/Rewards system is totally separate to Disqus comments. The only mechanism to log onto the Badges/Rewards system is to use a Twitter account currently.
Hope that makes sense. If not let me know and I'll try to explain better :)
Thanks for the quick reply :) I did understand that the badges/rewards is solely Twitter but I was wondering more about the commenting feature of the badge/rewards because I signed in with my disqus and obviously it wouldn't register my comment but then I signed in with my twitter account and it still came up with my disqus username (which is different to my twitter one)
Ok, what should happen is that as long as your logged into the Badge system with twitter, it should not matter what service you're logged into for the comments. It should simply recognise that you left a comment. It does not care what disqus user etc you logged in as.
Try refreshing the page, then take a look at your points count at the top right, then leave a comment and you should then see the points increase by 4 points a few seconds later.
Okay I will :) but I also seem to be connected through facebook as well so how do I disconnect that?...there doesn't seem to be a way of disconnecting the link...
If you mean the Disqus, there should be a Logout from the Disqus button. If you mean the Badge System, I think you'll need to go to facebook, log out, then close the browser, and then open up spoilertv.com again. It should then prompt you to sign in again and use your twitter account.
We're hoping to make the logging in a bit more seamless :)
I meant the badge system and thanks I'll try and do that :) I really hope that the logging in will get a little seamless-- I'm liking the badge system though and it's fun knowing where I stand on the site-wise re: all the activities.
1) Disqus, should keep you logged in whenever you return to the site unless you explicitly log out. 2) The Badge system I believe keeps you logged in whilst you have the page/browser loaded or for 1-2 hrs of inactivity and then it logs you out.
I would be interested to know how this addition is affecting traffic. I'm noticing that most articles are getting a lot more tweets and likes than usual. Most articles often have 8-10 tweets, but many are now in the 15-20 range. I imagine that, with us promoting the site a LOT more heavily, you're reaching more people more often.
I can totally understand the need, desire and appeal of the constant new features and the continuous upgrading of the site (it does go off to show how popular and useful it's become for it's many visitors). However I have to say I'm finding all these new additions to be making the site very heavy and slow.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I didnt read this post, but I'm betting the feature isn't an "exit" button, so can someone please spell "exciting" right please.
ReplyDeleteHa.. Teach me to make a post before my morning coffee!
ReplyDeleteThis is very cool!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteOooh that's neat, me likey :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks fun!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I hope I bypass Coffee Maker to whatever is next without adding sugars... I prefer my coffee black. Ha!
LOL me too, especially when the hangovers are bad ;)
ReplyDeleteAck Pffft.. I've been sugar'd!
ReplyDeleteloved it ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, this is brilliant :)
ReplyDeletethe badge titles made me laugh.
Such an awesome idea. I love all the additions you guys keep making to the site. It makes coming here all the more fun :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them :)
ReplyDeleteA really awesome idea! Me likey :)
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! I just love achievements and points. :P
ReplyDeleteBut can I please keep the Coffee Maker status, I loooove coffee! Just kidding, but really, nice work with this feature.
Ha lol :)
ReplyDeleteExcuse the language but this is F***ing SWEET!! Love it!
ReplyDeletevery cool :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Nick, glad you like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Liu.
ReplyDeleteHi Dark,
ReplyDeleteNice idea. I'm sure it'll be a great addition to the site/community. However, I would really appreciate it if you would consider making the Activities list optional. It is slowing my computer down like crazy, and you have to hit pause every time you go to a new page. The page loads fine, but the scrolling is so slow I wanna scream.
Cheers,
A
Hi.
ReplyDeleteSorry you're having problems. Can you let me know what Browser and Version you are using? I'll see if there is something I can do.
Cool!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a little complicated...maybe I'll get used to it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie
ReplyDeleteAll you need to do is to make sure you're "logged" in. The system does everything for you ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's the problem. I keep "connecting" with my twitter account, a new window opens and then it's logged out immediately... :(
ReplyDeleteHmm, that's odd. I wonder if you have any cookie blockers turned on which is not allowing twitter to "remember" that you're logged on.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea as always ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Dark,
ReplyDeleteI'm using Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1. Tried Internet Explorer 8, but it doesn't show right, though that may be that I hardly ever use IE and haven't looked at the set up too closely.
This is great!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Felidae82
ReplyDeleteCheers Aljosa Mudri
ReplyDeleteWhere is the google +1 button located?
ReplyDeletethis is so nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lunaticbabe When you get time, can you try to install Google Chrome to see if that makes any difference. It will help to work out where the problem might exist.
ReplyDeleteIt should be under the Tweet Button (see screenshot below)
ReplyDeletehttp://i.imgur.com/DVneG.png
I just went to twitter's site and I was already logged in... So... ? lol
ReplyDeleteYou could try upgrading to Firefox 5. It has some speed improvements.
ReplyDeleteYep, it uses it's own authentication system, it just uses Twitter as a
ReplyDeletemethod to log in. It still stores a cookie I believe for our site to check
that you're logged into the spoilertv badgeville system. So it still might
be something blocking you although I can't off the top of my head think what
it is.
That's a good idea actually. I just tried Firefox 5 on one of my laptops and
ReplyDeleteit does seem a lot quicker.
Oh yeah, I love it! Just earning my first points right now.. :)
ReplyDeleteCool stuff to see it in action :D
ReplyDeleteI love this new feature!!! People love competition, so what's better to use to get more visitors? I love it :)
ReplyDeleteSpoilerTV deserves more attention!
Thanks Marie :) Congrats on your first points!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks Leonie, that's very kind of you
ReplyDeleteSo is there a way for us to see how active other people are? For example I see an interesting comment and I wonder what level this person is on, can I somehow click on his profile and see his ranks and badges and stuff?
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam
ReplyDeleteCheers!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea Marie. It's not currently possible and something I'd not really thought about.
ReplyDeleteI'll check with the developers to see if there is anything we can do.
I think the main issue is that the comments system lets people "log in" with a large number of different systems eg Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc and this points system only supports Twitter etc
Well, poop.
ReplyDeletelol
LOL. Does it do the same in another browser?
ReplyDeleteOh, I like this!
ReplyDeleteThis is incredible :O!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! It seems like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteAwesome comment.
ReplyDeleteYep, it's been in testing for a while but with my vacation recently I didn't want to release it whilst I was away lol.
Be interesting to see how people to take to it.
Quick question: Will this lead to random people being picked for the commenter giveaway? I'm still a little confused on that front.
ReplyDeleteHa no problem. I might not have explained it very well.
ReplyDeleteBasically we're no longer doing the Commentator giveaway each month. We will replace it by picking, at random, one of the top 10 points scores for the month.
Hope that makes sense.
It worked on Firefox. I guess I can't use Safari here anymore, cause it really wasn't working. lol
ReplyDeletenice feature... :)
ReplyDeleteAny chance you will be linking it to the disqus accounts? :)
ReplyDeleteIt's something on our ToDo list but it's not currently possible at the moment :)
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting that it didn't work on Safari. I'll pass that onto the
ReplyDeletedevelopers to see if they know of a reason/fix.
What version of Safari are you using?
That definitely makes sense! So, it's still the same concept - you win a free TV show DVD - but in a different way.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Yep, exactly :)
ReplyDeleteRight! Hope you had a great vacation :D.
ReplyDeleteI'm also amused to see, amongst others, the DarkUFO account gaining badges :P. When I saw you become a Level 2 Site Fan I had to laugh. I imagine you're a *little* more than a Level 2 Site Fan at heart.

I post this out of the hope that it is beneficial to the support of this really cool new feature, so that you guys get all the info out of me you need. :P
It was version 5.0.5
ReplyDeleteHa yes. Although sadly I'm ineligible to win the DVD :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome feedback Wilson, I'll pass it all onto the devs and see what can be
ReplyDeletedone to make things a little smoother.
On a more positive note, I find the interface of these lists, icons, notifications, etc. to be awesome. They look really good.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jill who did the nav icons also helped out with the Badges etc :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great addition to the site :)
ReplyDeleteJust wondering how it knows that you've posted a comment or clicked +1 etc?
I should have known.
ReplyDeleteIt's all very impressive. :)
It's done by magic ;)
ReplyDeleteBasically once your logged on it can track what you do on the site.
The same way the site knows exactly where you are when you login. It's big brother, Emmy. O.o
ReplyDeleteI totally called it: BIG BROTHER.
ReplyDeleteHa lol :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect way to have thousands of people advertise the site via several ginormous sources of info/networking.... (FB, Twitter, Google, etc.)
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't enjoy this so much, I'd call foul for exploitation :P (totally JK)
hooray - I'm glad to see them online! they were fun to design... :)
ReplyDeleteHa lol. It's all part of my plan to take over the Internet and get Ausiello
ReplyDeleteand Matt Mitovich working for me ;)
Awesome work Jill
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good plan!
ReplyDeletePS. works great for me on FF5/Mac - I'll test on some other browser/OS configurations later!
ReplyDeleteCool, appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteAnd the truth comes out.
ReplyDeleteAusiello and Mitovich SHOULD be on Spoilertv. :D
done.
ReplyDeleteInteresting idea. Now we don't have to wait until the Best Show/Best Character contest to have a competition.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, it doesn't seem to be slowing down my computer. I'm on Chrome though.
Ha, yes, that's true. A 24/7 round the clock comp :)
ReplyDeleteYep, seems fine on Chrome for me as well but I've tweaked a few settings
It seems to have stopped loading for me. It was working fine until it signed me out and when I signed in again it disappeared.
ReplyDeleteTry doing a CTRL-F5 to force a full refresh.
ReplyDeleteAha, that did it.
ReplyDeleteAh cool. :)
ReplyDeleteNice! =D
ReplyDeleteThanks Janneke
ReplyDeleteOk, I made the mistake a long time ago to connect using FB instead of just making a disqus account, so my full name displays (which has always weirded me out lol) I was wondering if I had the ability to somehow change my account settings on disqus or whatever I'd need to, so that it could be a simple screen name? I noticed that it created a disqus account to have the name Wilson Crawford when it used my facebook info, and I was wondering if I could change that to be something else without having to change my name on facebook or deleting all my old posts for a new account?
ReplyDeleteObviously I'm not expecting this to actually be possible, but hey, the worst you can say is no, right?
(RIGHT!? lol)
The Disqus comments system and the new Badge System are 2 very different
ReplyDeletethings, different accounts/logins etc.
1) In the Disqus System you should be able to change your Display Name by
clicking on the Disqus button above the top comment box. I'm not 100% sure
if it works for all login types. support@disqus.com should be able to sort
that out.
2) As for the new Badge System, I think it picks up your Twitter Name as
defined on your Twitter Account. I think you'll need to change your twitter
name on twitter.com
So this only works if you have a twitter or facebook account?
ReplyDeleteCurrently only Twitter is supported to login to the Badge/Points system. It
ReplyDeleteonly takes 1 min to create a free twitter account :)
Looks great and an incentive to post :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Cyph3r :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but I don't want to do twitter or facebook.
ReplyDeleteWhen is something like this done for those of us who don't want to do that? Or giveaways for that matter.
I don't want to sound mean or anything but ...
Unfortunately nearly all the software that is available for us only runs on
ReplyDeleteFacebook/Twitter logins.
Just wondering why you can't create a Twitter Account just for use on
SpoilerTV? You don't need to use it for anything else if you don't want to
:)
There seems to be a myriad of activities that gain this and earn that and, at the moment, I seem to be lacking the patience to wade through it all. I'm just going to sign in and keep on doing what I do.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, thanks for keeping it fresh, Dark. This new program should interest a lot of people in the Spoiler TV community.
Ha, I know what you mean ;) It should slowly become more obvious and if you
ReplyDeletehave any questions, you only need to ask ;)
Said it before - SpoilerTV is well on the road to world domination!
ReplyDeleteOk So I officially enjoy this.
ReplyDeleteWayyyyy too much.
I love the google +1 thing. :O The blue icon is so...satisfying lol
and this is sort've like crack I guess, because I can't stop... I can't stop O.o
Yes, I did notice the difference between the two. I just need the disqus changed. I don't mind the badge system as much.
ReplyDeleteI will go check this out now. :D
Me too - just as well I have no life so I can stay here aaallllll day!!!!
ReplyDeleteHa lol
ReplyDeleteI feel like a drug dealer now ;)
I saw something about adding video views to this system. If you're going to do that could you try and embed the videos with HD options when possible. When you posted videos during the May upfronts I went to other sites to view them more often than not because they had better quality video.
ReplyDeleteSame here...It's sort've difficult for me to watch videos on the spoilertv player... glitchy, slow, etc. Youtube is the better alternative half the time. :X
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty much the reason I have a twitter. I don't even go on that site. I just click "tweet" on the competitions pages on occasion because it's easy and the only way to enter.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem viewing the videos. They play fine for me. I just prefer watching in higher quality.
ReplyDeleteWe'll do our best. We don't always have control over the quality of the
ReplyDeletevideo that we're given unfortunately.
This is quite near the top of my ever increasing to do list to improve the
video quality.
This has totally inspired a lot more activity on the site. It was a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul, that was the plan as well as giving a fun side of things
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought. I mean, it's not like everything has to be about winning something or a competition, but I just remember how this page encouragged those that are just reading to also comment and such (I'm still rather on the "lurking side" for that matter).
ReplyDeleteThis is not only a clever way of maybe getting more of those lurkers to "de-lurk" more often, but it's also very nice that it takes into account those who do just that - read and nothing else - by giving them one point per page visit (per day? *didn't quite understand that*).
All in all, it's a quite good idea.
(And I didn't intend to write this, but: All of the windows are not showing for me atm. at all. They were a couple of minutes ago though.)
Thanks Varjot, some good points there.
ReplyDeleteYep, it's a nice way to reward everyone :) and yes, it's 1 point per visit.
Although there are some safeguards in place to stop people just refreshing
the page ;)
As for the missing boxes/windows, I think the system is fairly busy so it
maybe delayed slightly or try pressing CTRL-F5 to force a refresh.
A lot of people I know are really addicted to GetGlue which is kind of similar. I couldn't get into that though because it seemed so out of the way of what I normally do. With this I can just use SpoilerTV as I normally use it and get cool badges out of it.
ReplyDeleteVery addictive though :x.
Ha thanks. I tried also to get into GetGlue but after a while started to ask
ReplyDeletewhy I was doing it lol.
I found a bug. When you use the pop-out feature for articles the badge bar(that says your points and rank) stays on top. Not a big deal but can cause some issues when trying to read things that way.
ReplyDeleteThanks, yet, we've reported that to the developers. Hopefully we'll get a
ReplyDeletefix on that soon.
ReplyDeleteAs always, thanks for making this site such a great place. I love how you are always improving the site and getting feedback. It's a sign of what a great site this is.
Thanks for the great feedback.
ReplyDeleteThe timeout on logins is a bug we're trying to solve. As for the activities
scrolling section we'll see if we can make that configurable
Thanks for working on it. Secretly I would like to take out the Activities section so that I can get the recent comments table again. I loved that because I could quickly see if anyone was commenting on a page I was interested in.
ReplyDeleteyea I miss the recent comments box, too :(
ReplyDeleteI guess that could be a browser/PC issue on my end then :P
ReplyDeleteSecond'd. It did feel like something was missing. O.o
ReplyDeleteAnd I've noticed something else: I've been voting on two votes since I signed in to this system yesterday and I never got a point for that. So does this work for all polls or just certain ones?
ReplyDeleteThanks. It should work for all polls although I think there time limit
ReplyDeletebetween voting. I'll see if I can lower that threshold.
The recent comments should be coming back soon.
ReplyDeleteShould be back now.
ReplyDeleteThis site is seriously amazing!!At this rate I'm going to get addicted in spoiler tv!!!!!Nice features!!!!
ReplyDeleteHa, thanks John :) Glad you like it.
ReplyDeleteHi Dark, Haven't had time to try Google Chrome and Firefox 5 at home yet. (This is a work comp). But I can see that the smaller list of activities have made things a lot faster. I'll try and get to the other two things later today.
ReplyDeleteI'll give it a try when I get home. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHey, that's awesome news. That's for passing it on
ReplyDeleteAdding disqus accounts would be very useful as I use that most :)
ReplyDeleteThis seems awesome :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Poppy, glad you like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting recent comments back in. I love that feature.
ReplyDeleteAs the achievement whore that I am, I love this!
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint is that that it is taking forever to load.
Ah, what browser are you using?
ReplyDeleteIE8
ReplyDeleteare you able to try Google chrome?
ReplyDeleteJust a follow up. I tried Google Chrome and had no problem at all. I don't have Firefox on my home computer, though. Tried Safari and it was the same trouble as Firefox v4.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for checking and the feedback. I'll try to see what the problem
ReplyDeleteis with the other browsers.
No, but I am trying it on Firefox and it is running bit better.
ReplyDeleteThanks. IE seems to be the browser the runs the slowest. I've tested it on
ReplyDeleteIE9 and it seems a lot better than it was on IE8
My account stopped accumulating points last night. It has been stuck on the same number for hours and nothing I do adds to the count.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bruce. I've seen a few of these today and I've alerted the
ReplyDeletedevelopers.
Does the little widget at the top show your name or "me"?
What browser and version are you using?
It says "Me." It used to say my screen name. I'm using Firefox 5.0.
ReplyDeleteCool, I've passed it onto the devs. Looks like a big which hopefully they
ReplyDeletewill be able to fix.
Can you try a CTRL-F5 on spoilertv.com to see if that refreshes it. or
failing that see if it works in another browser to see if we can eliminate
some things
Hard refresh doesn't work and I can't even get the widgets to show up at all in the lastest version of IE.
ReplyDeletehehe this is cool! :)
ReplyDeleteRight. The devs have said they just rolled out a new version. Give it a min,
ReplyDeletethen try loading up Firefox and trying again. Let me know what happens and
I'll pass the info back to the devs
I just tried. Unfortunately the situation is the same.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bruce, I'll pass that on
ReplyDeleteIt's still not working for me so I'm going to go ahead and log off. If there's a fix for this give me a heads-up if you can.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Will do, it definitely a bug in the system as it's affecting other users as
ReplyDeletewell. I'm currently on a Skype call with the devs to try and work out what's
going on.
I'm going to be offline for a while but I wanted to let you know that my account is working again. The widgets all have a different facade now too.
ReplyDeleteYep, we've just rolled out a new version. You beat me to the announcments :)
ReplyDeletesddsds
ReplyDeleteThis is completely cool!!!
ReplyDeleteSo I've been reading this site for years but figured I'd finally start posting. Test....
ReplyDeleteLike the new version a lot. It matches the look and feel of the site better than the last.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: How do I see how many points I have? And also... I changed my username on yahoo but it's showing up as Sdjjs Jsdjsd on here... anyone know how to fix this?
ReplyDeleteGlad there's an update, this morning my points total wasn't changing no matter what I did.
ReplyDeleteThose are 2 different systems.
ReplyDelete1) To see your points, click on the My Rewards Tab (see here
http://i.imgur.com/bNnDJ.png)
2) As for the Comments System. That's via the Disqus comments system. You'll
have to change that via the Disqus Settings in the button above the comments
(see screenshot http://i.imgur.com/ru25U.png)
Not that I'm exactly worried about it - just thought I'd query it though:
ReplyDeleteI seem to have two accounts for some reason - even though I use twitter to log in (Jilly), a couple of times I've noticed I'm logged in with my fb name (Jilly Winchester) - and the fb one demotes me to key grip rather than stunt double (yeah that's what upsets me most - love being a stunt double LOL)I guess it wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have a multiple personality disorder :) Loving it though!
Hey Jilly.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get a moment can you email me at darkufo@spoilertv.com. It might be
quicker to try and help you via email
Thanks, Dark. Decided to use twitter instead.
ReplyDeleteHa cool :)
ReplyDeleteLove the improvements already made. It does seem to load faster now and you have more choice in how much you want to see. Kudos!
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you like it. Appreciate the feedback.
ReplyDeleteThis is really fun! It's like a treasure hunt :)
ReplyDeleteOne question though: I voted in some polls already and was logged in but I did not seem to get anything on "increase your poll votes". Do I have to vote in a certain amount of polls? Or did I just do anything wrong?
There was an issue earlier where things were not getting counted.
ReplyDeleteAs for the notifications for eg polls, you need to do so many before the
next level is unlocked. Next time you vote in a poll, look at your points
total first and then do the poll vote. You should see you points total go up
a few seconds later. That will show that your poll votes are being counted.
Glad you enjoy the system
Genius feature Dark!
ReplyDeleteLove it.
LOL, this is so addicting. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you like it :)
ReplyDeleteHa, that's the idea lol
ReplyDeleteI really love the new features and changes you have added. This is a great site
ReplyDeleteThank you, that's very kind of you to say
ReplyDeletethis is probably a stupid question but what about Disqus? can I sign in with my disqus ID? or is it just twitter and facebook for now? I'm just wondering since I set up my Disqus especially for Spoiler TV
ReplyDeleteHi Pink,
ReplyDeleteNo, it's not a stupid question.
There are 2 different things here.
1) Disqus is the mechanism you use to post comments on the site. In order to
use Disqus you can use a number of methods to log into the Disqus comments
eg Disqus account, Facebook, Twitter, Openid etc This is purely for the
comments
2) The new Badges/Rewards system is totally separate to Disqus comments. The
only mechanism to log onto the Badges/Rewards system is to use a Twitter
account currently.
Hope that makes sense. If not let me know and I'll try to explain better :)
Thanks for the quick reply :)
ReplyDeleteI did understand that the badges/rewards is solely Twitter but I was wondering more about the commenting feature of the badge/rewards because I signed in with my disqus and obviously it wouldn't register my comment but then I signed in with my twitter account and it still came up with my disqus username (which is different to my twitter one)
It was just weird...
Ok, what should happen is that as long as your logged into the Badge system
ReplyDeletewith twitter, it should not matter what service you're logged into for the
comments. It should simply recognise that you left a comment. It does not
care what disqus user etc you logged in as.
Try refreshing the page, then take a look at your points count at the top
right, then leave a comment and you should then see the points increase by 4
points a few seconds later.
Okay I will :) but I also seem to be connected through facebook as well so how do I disconnect that?...there doesn't seem to be a way of disconnecting the link...
ReplyDeleteDo you mean on Disqus or Badge System.
ReplyDeleteIf you mean the Disqus, there should be a Logout from the Disqus button.
If you mean the Badge System, I think you'll need to go to facebook, log
out, then close the browser, and then open up spoilertv.com again. It should
then prompt you to sign in again and use your twitter account.
We're hoping to make the logging in a bit more seamless :)
I meant the badge system and thanks I'll try and do that :)
ReplyDeleteI really hope that the logging in will get a little seamless-- I'm liking the badge system though and it's fun knowing where I stand on the site-wise re: all the activities.
Thanks again
Cool, no problem :)
ReplyDeleteJust as a rule of thumb.
1) Disqus, should keep you logged in whenever you return to the site unless
you explicitly log out.
2) The Badge system I believe keeps you logged in whilst you have the
page/browser loaded or for 1-2 hrs of inactivity and then it logs you out.
ReplyDeleteJust a question. I was wondering why the pictures for the badges are missing? I use Firefox 5.0
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand the need, desire and appeal of the constant new features and the continuous upgrading of the site (it does go off to show how popular and useful it's become for it's many visitors). However I have to say I'm finding all these new additions to be making the site very heavy and slow.
ReplyDelete
