Combat Hospital was a hit in Canada with stronger ratings than Rookie Blue last summer with 1,959,000 viewers (which is great for Canada) in the US on the other hand it's 1.2 A 18-49 demo and 5.26 million viewers are disappointing and the series could go in the same direction as The Listener which was pulled by NBC after a few episodes but is still being renewed in Canada two season later.

I won't comment on the creative quality of the show but it seems to me that the promotional push for Combat Hospital was nearly non-existent compared to what Rookie Blue received by ABC last summer. That probably has at last something to do with why the premiere flopped.
ReplyDeleteI think it flopped because it was a poor episode. Like they pull all the tricks out of the box of stale plot contrivances.
ReplyDeleteThey wouldn't know that unless they watched the episode. The point is that people didn't tune in to watch in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI saw nonstop promotion for Combat Hospital. I think it flopped cause every ABC drama just about has been flopping. For a summer show, not really sure those numbers are horrible.
ReplyDeleteI guess I didn't see all the promotion you did. I saw a print ad and a few commercials and that was it. Maybe I just wasn't watching during the times they were promoting the show.
ReplyDeleteYeah Jonathan, I agree with Bruce_F. I maybe saw 4 commercials or so. Compare that to what tnt did with Fallen Skies.
ReplyDelete-
Not even getting into the story or the actors. But WORST MILITARY show ever!
ReplyDeleteIt was like they didn't even have a consultant on set. If I'm going to watch a show about the military, I at least want something to be accurate. They failed miserably.
Actually, if I hadn't seen the first commercial on ABC following the episode of Body of Proof, I wouldn't have known this was airing.
ReplyDeleteIn Canada, the simulcast channel aired commercials all the time.
For ABC, simulcast means we sometimes don't see any ABC commercials because there could be 3 different local stations.
Just before ABC late news is when I can see the ABC promos.
To speak on the show's defense. It's not about the military. It's based on an U.N. operation. In other words, very Canadian.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read (and there were like dozens of articles.) there were numerous consultants on this show. It's all authentic.
I really enjoyed watching this and I'm looking forward to more episodes in the future! :)
ReplyDeleteWatched the season finale tonight! It was GREAT!! I just LOVE LOVE this show!! It makes me laugh, and cry and sometimes get angry! Can't wait too see what happens with Rebecca and Simon! Hope time goes fast until they're back!
ReplyDeleteIf you're wondering why there is so much garbage on US television, just read the negative comments on this page. Combat Hospital is a moving, intelligent show with a great deal of humor. I am not Canadian, but I have watched a great many Canadian TV shows. By and large they are superior in writing, production and acting to the most touted American series. It may be why so many Canadian actors end up starring on so many of the better American TV shows.
