Castle - Season 4 - Getting a Female Captain (Includes Poll)

We've just learnt that Castle Producers are currently looking for a Female Captain for Season 4 as a series regular. She will be in her early 40's and will be a real "hard-ass" but we'll see a flirtatious side to her.

So Castle fans, what do you think? Do you like the fact that we'll see another female dynamic in the show?

    Well, it's pretty telling that when I heard about this, my reaction was "Oh no..." Usually, the introduction of a female superior is a way of tensing things up, letting the "old" and the "new" female characters fight for who's the "top dog" there. Please, Castle writers, don't do THAT. I hated it on The Mentalist and I didn't warm up to Hightower until much, much later.

    The 'easy' storyline of her not wanting Castle there doesn't seem that palatable either.

    but if they have another female character and castle and her get close together beckett shall be jealous. I dont reckon that will will happen though. My theory is that after Beckett was shot they will fake her death so that they can catch the shooter and castle will be none the wiser and when its revealed she is alive BOOM! they have to discuss their relationship becuase he said "I love you"

    I don't think so, it was done in bones already so it would look really unoriginal

    On another note, having a male Captain made it more casual and Montgomery knew what the absolute limits were, it'll be hard to replace him because of this as it held the show together at its best moments.

    I guess I can go either way because I agree with all the previous posts.  If they want a hardass they should get Kyra Sedgwick because she's just wrapping up her work on The Closer and the character she plays there is a real tough as nails chief. 

    I just don't want them to ruin the great dynamics of the show and the characters that has been working so well all these years.

    Elizabeth Mitchell, please! She's in her early 40s, she's definitely hard-ass, and she can obviously be a lil bit flirty. Plus, she's currently unemployed!

    and what had been done in bones had been done in the xfiles. the idea is reusable! but I don't think that's how they do it. at least AM has confirmed that ( or so I think)

    Arrgh, I hope not. I hate when writers decide all women are catty andb unprofessional among other women in the workplace. Here is hoping that she isn't there to add tension.

    This doesn't surprise me. I think it could be a good story. Might tense things up. And it could lead to new possible stories down the road.

    Lisa Edelstein would also be a good pick. But as a Lost and V fan I would definitely kill to see Elizabeth as the new captain.

    3 seasons of Beckett and her boys has worked. Haven't we seen enough of the 'hard-ass' female superior with something to prove?

    IMO, the new captain will be an attractive divorced blonde.  Her demeanor will have an edge to it, which intimidates all her subordinates.  She may not want Castle at the precinct, but she might like him somewhere else, i.e. at dinner, at her house, on a special assignment, etc.  This won't go unnoticed by Beckett.  Remember how she reacted to Natalie Rhodes and to Castle's interaction with Agent Shaw, neither of which was a real romantic threat.  Castle will remain, of course, in love with Beckett, but all this will make for an interesting storyline.  Since the chemistry with the current cast is so dynamic, I imagine If the new captain doesn't set well with viewers or the ratings happen to drop, she'll suddenly be transferred to a new precinct and a male replacement for Montgomery will be found.  Just my thoughts.  We'll see how it plays out.

    "She may not want Castle at the precinct..."That's the one thing we agree on for sure.  I'd bet good money that the new captain will make it clear very quickly that Castle isn't welcome around the precinct anymore.

    Casting suggestions:

    Elizabeth Mitchell (it seems everyone can agree on that)
    Jennifer Beals (easy pick after The Chicago Code)
    Carey Lowell (she's 50 but that's okay)
    Michelle Yeoh (why not?)
    Brooke Smith (Dr. Erica Hahn from Grey's)

    I would of also suggested Alicia Coppola and Jayne Brook but they've already guest starred on Castle so that rules them out.

    Although my preference is for a male captain, I'll be perfectly happy as long as the character is well written and feels believable. As for a possible suggestion for a female, I would prefer one who might be a little older-sh as early 40's seems a little young to be a captain, imho, how about Shoreh Agdashloo?

    I like the idea of a female captain. Props to the producers for going that route instead of replacing a great character like Montgomery with the same old cliched male captain that he was obviously not.And I'm going to put Jennifer Beals name in the hat. She just has the right look and acting chops that would be a perfect fit with the rest of the Castle cast.

    I was actually kind of hoping the Beckett would be the new captain since she was shot and probably won't be able to do the same job. I also like that Beckett is the the only female. But hey as long as Castle is still there I don't mind.

    so what with the experience??they are an actress,there are no need an experience.at the first two season,i already could see Beckett's potential to be a very perfect detective in this tv series.and for another female character,so yeah whatever,as long as they dont stand between Castle and Beckett.
