Camelot is now officially cancelled, Starz decided not to pick up the show for a second season, 3 weeks after the airing of the 10th episode and season One finale, now series finale.
The reasons of this cancellation are unclear but while the ratings weren't so bad, the production costs in Ireland were probably too high to keep the show going under the circumstances (Camelot often had mixed or bad reviews).
Source : Just watched that.

Wait, wasn't it announced that S2 was going ahead? Or was the The Borgias? Damn, I had yet to watch, but always love me a good retelling of the Arthur myth. Even if it was no where near as good as GoT.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know it was in danger of being cancelled. It's really too bad. While the show wasn't great it was pretty good as something to watch when you're in the mood for some genre goodness.
ReplyDeleteI watched the first three episodes, thought it was alright...
ReplyDeleteThen I watched Game Of Thrones and Camelot hasn't been thought of since :P
Shame though, as it wasn't horrendous
Yes, The Borgias got an early renewal, just 3 weeks after the Series Premiere. Camelot and The Borgias premiered respectively on April 1st and April 3rd, that's maybe why you got mixed up.
ReplyDeleteI've just seen the first two episodes of Camelot, and I didn't like it so much. It all looked very cheap, there were no actual stakes and I can't stand Joseph Fiennes, it looks like he's overacting, frowning and whispering all the time.
Anyway, Starz have a lot of dramas/pilots in production : the 4th season of Torchwood will premiere on July 8th, Boss will premiere on October 21st, Magic City and the 2nd season of Spartacus (Vengence) will premiere during the first semester of 2012.
Plus, they recently picked up Noir (which sounds amazing) to series, it will probably premiere during the 2nd semester of 2012. And Starz also ordered pilots for a Michael Hirst viking show, a Gore Verbinski-produced supernatual drama, an adaptation of a Dean Koontz novel as a miniseries. So basically, they have a lot on their plate.
EXACTLY my thoughts on it. I watched it before GoT and not after. Never thought of it again and won't miss it since a far superior fantasy series is still on the air.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your point.
ReplyDeleteI think the problem was that they tried to make it so much more than say Legend of the Seeker or Hercules and their ilk, but in the end the high production values didn't amount to a show that was much better than the aforementioned series.
At that point it was dead in the water since cutting back the production costs to justify more seasons would change too much of what made Camelot what it was...
I guess I'm still on the Game of Thrones high, but in a few months I may have wanted to see some sword genre series....
hmmmm I was planning to see it in summer...now... I don't know... :/
ReplyDeleteI watched the first five episodes, and I just liked it less and less every episode. The acting, the lines, it all was pretty bad imo.
ReplyDeletesooo, that means no more Eva Green showing her awesome body, and when i say body i mainly mean boobs ofcourse, yep, don't judge me. Show was decent and i really wanted myself to like it but there was just something missing for me, i'm not sure what exactly but i couldn't force myself to finish it, i stopped after like 5th episode or something. And I guess we can mark Joseph Fiennes as one of those jinxed actors who'll get their show cancelled.
ReplyDeletemy friend lees well sad that camelot got cancelled
ReplyDeleteno surprises for me... I saw the pilot and thought it was awful...
ReplyDeleteWith GoT only being on 2 months/year, I think that leaves room for a LOT more fantasy shows. Merlin is the only other real fantasy show on right now.
ReplyDeleteThere are a ton of supernatural shows and a few fairy tale kinda shows, but there is a definite lack of fantasy shows. Yes, GoT is vastly superior to Camelot, but Camelot was definitely better than nothing. I won't cry for the loss of Camelot, but I am sad at the losing yet 1 more fantasy show so quickly.
starz is stupid. They launched the show on friday... a suicide
ReplyDeleteStarz launched this show on friday. It's a suicide... a bad decision of the network
ReplyDeleteYou're right. I took some time to think about it and came to a similar conclusion and mentioned it in a later post.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the new Rome series will be good, more historical drama/action than fantasy I guess, but I have high hopes. In the mean time Spartacus and its spin-offs pass the time for me.
I love fantasy adventure series and there is usually not enough on for me, but I guess I'm content now with one stellar series. The bar has been raised.
Legend of the Seeker had really high production values, but they embraced the cheese rather than going for the serious drama.
ReplyDeleteDanggggg! what happened??
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, this blows. For all this show's faults, and it had a few, it was still a quality program. Second, the ratings weren't that bad so if they're ditching the show it must be about production costs, which also blows. Third, and lastly, passing on the opportunity to see Joseph Fiennes and Eva Green go at each other every week is just foolish. And it blows.
ReplyDeleteEven though I really liked 1.08 and 1.09, I can't say I'm too saddened.
ReplyDeleteOOOO COME ONE Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo......................................

ReplyDeleteIt is so sad when a series can't reach its full potential because of cancellations but then there are shows that are on the air for seasons and have their peaks and then have their quality drop
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much what I was hoping. When I get tired of watching a dozen cop, lawyer, and doctor shows, Starz seems to often have the fix for that (whether it's incredible or not).
ReplyDeleteI just have to say that I think Spartacus is phenomenal. Yes, the language and sex is silly and gratuitous at times... But the acting, the story, and the cinematography are SO GOOD. The speed at which the story propels forward is astonishing. Loved the S1 finale.
ReplyDeleteRight, that makes more sense. Camelot did decently, but they have lots more better stuff coming up. I'm really looking forward to Noir and it's good to know that The Borgias was better than Camelot as I plan on watching that in some spare time too. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh come on you have to admit Merlin’s character was played beautifully, for once I’m glad to see something other than an old bearded gray haired wizard… Good to see wizards can look different and still be amazing.. Somebody mentioned intense, I agree I never knew what Merlin was actually thinking, supberb acting
ReplyDeleteArther, Im sorry man, you can do better than me, but that guy from Tudors just really kind of set the standard for kings if u know what I mean…
Morgan you are wonderful, Devs- a little too evil, she should have had more light in her background, the developers really posed this darkness around her in everything, a little too obvious devs. I think the secret would have been to put alil more light in her but mix it up nicely with her dark side. Just my opinion.
Gweneverre, did a good job, seventeen magazine come on guys, she was perfect and did a good job. Oh and her husband did a good job too, talk about ready to punch somebody in the face but just had the look and feel of calm. Nice.
The Nun was perfect. She really kept me going. Good mix of the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Played well.
I’m not here to criticize, I sure as heck couldn’t do it. Im sure somebody reads these things. And really honestly I would have went on for season 2. Im mad it got cancelled despite some minor fixes that could have been done.
One other thing.. the show did leave the actors hanging imo.. I mean get some more money, simulate more battles, should have been more eye candy with less emphasis on the actors “all the time” I mean they need more cast for such a grand title “Camelot” I mean at least be able to fill up the round table with more people than that...That was way too little cast.. At least with shows like seeker and similar you know it was that kind of one two punch line show that you'd expect.. Def should have had better and more fillers like Tudors.
That is pretty much how I felt as well but I kept watching Camelot anyhow.
ReplyDeleteTo bad King Arthur can't enforce a decree to stop the cancellation of a quality series. To much of that these days in favor of the Rupert Murdoch entertainment model.
ReplyDeleteI am totally liking this show. I can understand the cancellations though. The show looked ridiculously expensive & that's what made it so good. The acting was phenomenal.
ReplyDeleteROFL. time r hard
ReplyDeleteThis show was good for the first season, it started off slow but it got good near the end...I guess people didn't want to give it a chance with the nudity, freaking old people getting pissed over it probably.
ReplyDeleteWell this sux wish the series wasnt cancelled as im seriously tired of the crap shows 1k csi type crap on...or lets watch another stupis *ss reality show
ReplyDeleteI am outraged! Camelot was a damn good show! Why the hell don't they give shows a chance and not just one season? This is just typical of these networks...and I'm seriously thinking about boycotting Starz and HBO and Showtime
ReplyDeletewow what a shock. from the horrible writing.......she sleeps with arthur right after her husband is killed how does that endear arthur or gwenie to anyone at all. to the choice of a guy who looks like justin bieber with longer hair. is anyone shocked that this show was cancelled........oh wait probably the people that were shocked when legend of the seeker was cancelled. *rolls eyes*
ReplyDeleteim sorry but game of thrones and even the british merlin show are far better than this crap was.
