Breaking Bad - Cranston teases season premiere episode [SPOILER]

Jun 2, 2011

Its time to get excited! One of the all-time greatest drama series to ever hit television returns this summer! First, Breaking Bad: Complete Third Season Blu-ray and DVD arrive next Tuesday, June 7th. Then the long-awaited Season 4 premiere of Breaking Bad hits on July 17th. We caught up with series' star Bryan Cranston today to talk about both Season 3 and Season 4, and he decided to drop a bombshell of a tease on us. On the Season 4 Premiere, one of the series' main characters is going to die! And it's anybody's guess as to who will be leaving the show.

Will Walt Jr. (RJ Mitte) finally succumb to the criminal life of his father? Will Hank (Dean Norris) not be able to survive a shoot out due to his Season 3 injuries? Has Walt had enough of Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk)? Or is Jesse (Aaron Paul) finally going to shake hands with the Destiny that was originally planned for him in Season 1 by series creator Vince Gilligan?

Here is what Bryan Cranston had to say about the demise of a key player less than ten minutes into the Emmy-winning AMC series' return.

"There is always a chance that (Aaron Paul) may not make it. Without giving away too many details, there is a character on our show that will not survive the first episode. How about that for a teaser?"

When asked if it was one of the key players, Bryan Cranston confirmed that one of the more beloved characters would not be coming back, further giving us an update on the show.

"Yeah. I will give you a little nugget there. A little tease. (This has) been a great season. This will be the first season that we have wrapped completely. We will be done and gone from New Mexico by the time the first episode airs. There will be some distance from what we are seeing. Again, Season 4 has been masterfully written by Vince Gilligan and his writing staff. To churn out the agony and the ecstasy of these characters? It's like a well-crafted tragedy. It keeps getting tighter and tighter. This life that Walter White has chosen is fraught with complications and tension. And its so exciting to watch it all play out."

  1. There has been this rumour that Mike might bite the dust in the premiere, but Banks has been made a series regular and he has been in some recent set pics, so I don't see that happen.

  2. Mike is the only who's missing in the IMDb...

  3. I gotta believe it's going to be either Victor or Gomez.  Each one could potentially be discovered as a mole within their respective organizations.  I doubt Victor could be considered "beloved", but that could just be actor-talk.

Regarding the set photos with Mike, do we know when they were taken?  For all we know they could have been taken several months ago when they were filming the first episode.  Also, was he explicitly promoted to series regular, or are we just inferring that from the press release putting his name with the rest of the cast.  I'm not sure how to interpret those things.  Man, I really hope it isn't Mike.

It won't be Saul.  They've been talking about his bodyguard and I doubt they go through a whole bodyguard arc in 10 minutes.  Plus Vince said we have lots more obnoxious outfits to look forward to.  So unless the first 10 min of the Ep is a Saul Goodman fashion show...

If the info you posted yesterday is to be believed, then pretty much everyone discussed can be eliminated.

My speculation: Gomez is killed by the cartel.  Then it's revealed later in the episode that he was operating as a mole within the DEA.  DEA superiors discovered this.  Cartel discovered that the DEA knew and eliminated him.

  4. Regarding those set pics I'm not sure when they were taken, but Jesse had a new haircut in those pics and Mike was wearing something different than in the last minutes of season 3 and the promotional pic for the first episode. So I don't think they were taken some months ago and only released a couple of weeks ago.

  5. My only counter is that I'm fairly certain Mike was wearing a purple shirt under his black jacket at the end of S3.  It looks black in the recent photo, but that could possibly just be the lighting.

Also, the photos were released on the same day, but that doesn't mean they were all taken around the same time.

You are probably right.  I guess I'm just not willing to completely convince myself that it's not Mike.  Otherwise I'll be even more upset if it turns out to be him...

  6. Is it not possible that, a main character will die in the first 10 minutes, then we flashback and the season (or most of it) leads up to that? Maybe we will get a season-2-bear-in-pool scenario and see more of that scene revealed through opening scenes, then the main narrative leads up to that?

  7. I'm not convinced they're different shirts.  Not convinced they're the same either.  Lighting and color correction can do funny things.

Below is a shot of Walt in the final minutes of S3.  Same shirt as above, but darker and more purple, less blue.  Also a picture of Mike from the next scene.  Definitely looks a little purple under the collar there.

But you're right...we'll find out in a month or so!
