30 May 2011

So our premiere poll was a rousing success with over 850 votes. The winner was Lazarus Rising with over 51% of the votes. In My Time of Dying was a distant second. Today we vote for our favorite second episode:

Wendigo
Everybody Loves a Clown
The Kids are Alright
Are You There God? It's Me Dean Winchester
Good God Y'All
Two and a Half Men

  1. The Kids are Alright gets my vote, although Are You There God?  It's Me, Dean Winchester and Good God Y'All are close.  Then Wendigo, which I really liked even if others thought the wendigo was cheesy. Next would be Two and a Half Men followed by Everybody Loves a Clown, which is one episode I really did not love.

initially not any amazing standouts like there were in the premier poll, but then again that was the premier so there should very well be standouts
personally i love MoW episodes so i needed to choose between seasons 1, 2 or 3.
although i do love wendigo and TKAA and they had different monsters to the usual vengefull spirit, i eneded up choosing everybody loves a clown, for a few reasons
    1. sam's hilarious fear of clowns
    2. the clown in this episode is so fickin creepy, it basically gave me a fear of clowns
    3. introduced us to jo ellen and ash who are awesome characters and should have been in the show more, especially ash
    4. that scene at the end of the episode where dean samshes the impala with a crowbar, is one of the most heartbreaking things i've seen on this show, i cry every time i watch it

i'd give an order for the others but i can't really order them
next would probably be good god ya'll
i honestly cannot remember what happens in are you there god its me dean winchester (which is rare for me) and then two and a half men would come last

  3. I really love Wendigo. The early season 1 episodes were so eerie and horror movie-like. The show gradually lost that tone, sadly.

  4. I actually like those episodes less, they were really formula based and the dialogue and pacing never quiet jelled.

  5. I actually loved Two and a Half Men.  I was a wonderful comedy in places.  I enjoyed it  Are You There, God, It's Me, Dean Winchester?  was right behind it.
    Rounding it out would be:

    3.  The Kids Are Alright
    4.  Wendigo
    5.  Good God, Ya'll
    6.  Everybody Loves a Clown

  6. They all had their moments..But my vote goes to "Are You There God?It's Me Dean Winchester"
The last scene between Dean and Cas with the revelation about Lucifer and the seals is one of my all time favorite scenes!
But "Wendigo" and "Good God Y'All" are really close!

  7. This is too hard.
There's none here that stand out as being truly great or truly awful.
I even kinda liked Two and A Half Men - which I know a lot of people don't like.
    So.... ummm.... I guess I'm dithering again aren't I?

    ReplyDelete
  8. my vote goes to "Good God Y'all"

  9. Good God Y'All gets my vote, and Are you there god? it's me Dean Winchester is a close second.

  10. This poll idea looks fun. I usually don't comment but here goes :)

This was really a contest between the two 'God' episodes. Good God Y'All wins it for me because joining Sam and Dean were Ellen, Jo, Rufus and the wonderful introduction of the Horsemen into the Supernatural mythology. Plus, Titus Welliver was just awesome and the whole premise of exploring the darkness in uninhibited humans was definitely interesting.

I really don't have any clear order for the other 4, but Two and a Half Men probably stands out from them.

     i'm with you here,
it took me a while to think of some factors that stood out from any of the episodes
and i still don't remember what happened in are you there god, its me dean winchester, even though that one seems to be the favourite here
    people really liked season 4

i also liked 2 and a half men, just not as much as the other options on the list

  13. My vote goes to Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester with Wendigo and Good God Y'All being really close. Although when I think about it I love all of these episodes:)

  15. AYTGIMDW. The others are ok eipsodes, but I really liked this one, seeing all the guests return. Good God Ya'll was also good, that's my 2nd place.

oh!! now i remember what happened. thank you :D!!!
yeah, that was a good episode :D

  17. This one was really tough for me, I really like all of those episodes!!! In the end I went for Wendigo, again mostly because it really sets the tone of the show for viewers and the relationship between the boys and their dad and their past...So again I'm really voting based on how I felt when I first watched the show, and I find that Wendigo is an episode I can just rewatch and rewatch over and over again without getting bored of it :) But Everybody Loves a Clown was such a brilliant follow-up to the death of John, especially with the end scene (poor Impala!), with some nice humour thrown in (Sammy and clowns, hehe). The Kids are Alright is also one of my favourite episodes because it really is a window into Dean and what he wants and what he could've had if things had gone differently for him early on. Plus there is that great scene when Lisa's two friends are gossiping about him and looking him up and down which always cracks me up ;) I loved War in Good God Y'all, and Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester is just epic on so many levels, and Two and A Half Men had its moments as well :) So this was a tough one for me! ;)

  18. I went with The Kids are All Right because it was cute to see Dean care about Ben. But now, I think whenever I rewatch it, its gonna mean a lot more than it did then. I also really like Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester and Two and A Half Men

  19. Thanks Dark! Love your work :)

  20. For me, I have to go with Two and a Half Men. I love the hilarity of the
boys trying to deal with a baby. It's yet another sign that something's
not right with Sam - I didn't expect him to have so much trouble
dealing with a baby. It was great to see how supportive Lisa was when
she sent Dean out to hunt with Sam. I think she'd make a great hunter's
wife eventually. I hope that years from now, when they end the series,
that Lisa & Ben will get their memories back and will end up
settling down near Bobby's with Dean, giving Dean the two things he
really needs: a family, and the ability to keep hunting with Sam (whom
I'd love to see with someone too... Sarah Blake, I'm looking at you!).
Last but certainly not least, we get the Impala back!!! One step closer
to the Supernatural we loved (little do we know how long that's really
    going to take).
Of the rest of the episodes, I like them all! All of them have great
moments, though the hardest one for me to watch is Good God Y'all.... I
hate seeing the boys go their separate ways! But it's a well done
episode that sets up some of my favorites. Seeing the brotherly
relationship going well wouldn't be nearly as meaningful without the
    times where it was broken.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Me to! And I loved seeing the Impala :-D

    ReplyDelete
  22. I also liked the horror movie feel of season 1.  I hope we get back to that more in season 7, especially since I hope the angel rescues are ended and the brothers and Bobby have to save themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Best moment of the whole episode was when Dean untarped his baby.  I know I was yelling, "About time."  And then the close-ups to Smoke on the Water.  Pure love.  It was even better than the Lisa and Dean moments.

  24. Gotta say, all of them were strong episodes, but I had to go with The Kids Are Alright (actually I'm surprised it has so few votes...). It was both scary and hilarious. LOVED the changelings, they were sooo creepy, I mean best way to scare viewers is to give monsters that creepy child look (like in the scene when Katie is sitting all wet after her mother drowned her, asking for ice cream). And I absolutely adore little Ben in this episode, they picked the perfect kid to portray the mini-Dean.

The rest of the episodes are great too - Wendigo has the classic "saving people, hunting things, family business" line, I like the post-John's death drama in the Clown and the MOTWs in these two are cool as well. Are You There God is awesome with all the guest appearances (the real Meg, Henrickssen) and we find out about Lucifer and the seals. Good God, Y'all - I really loved the way War was working here, making people kill each other, very clever. But both the Clown and this one have a minus for having Jo in them. Two and a Half Men was entertaining, especially loved the bit with Dean giving whisky to the baby and the boys naming him Bobby John. Also liked the idea of a child-monster. And seing two Deans on screen is always great, even if one is a shapeshifter ;P But it had grandpa in it, so that's a minus.

  25. I just rewatched that scene and it was very intense.  Nice acting from both.

  26. Welcome Hofbauer.  I'm glad you commented.  It really makes hellatus go by faster when we get good discussion.  I agree that Titus Welliver was awesome as War.  I wish we could have seen more of him.  Besides Death, he's my favorite horseman.

  27. One of my favorite things about Supernatural is even the episodes I don't really care for have elements in them that I love.  It's a rare day when the worst of Supernatural isn't still better than the rest of TV that week.

    ReplyDelete
  28. same here, I need some ghost hunts and horror chills! I need creepy children, deads in the water, hunted paintings and stuff. I miss that tone of SPN too and I definitely grew tired of vampires and the weird-but-not-really-scary monsters, like in season 6.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's my fantasy ending too.  Bobby alive and playing granduncle.  Lisa and Ben with Dean and Sam and Sarah together.  All of them causing havoc in South Dakota with Dean and Sam hunting and everyone looking out for one another.  I understand the boys dying in a blaze of glory thing, but I've never liked death getting the final word on a series I love.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm surprised about The Kids Are Alright too.  Is it blacklash from people not liking Dean's storyline in season 6 and so they don't like were it started?  Not judging here but merely curious.    I think Katie may be the creepiest kid in all of the SPN 'verse and that's saying something.  Creepy kids definitely get my adrenaline pumping and make me very, very nervous.

  31. Ok, so I accidentally voted for Clown but Are You There should have had my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  32. who says it'll be either the sappy/puke worthy ending OR the blaze of glory? My vote goes for the boys riding off into the sunset on their way to the next hunt, leaving the audience to dream on about how it all ends for the Winchesters.

I cant see Kripke going with the Charmed ending nor do I see Jared and Jensen going for that.

  33. I went with Good God because of the scene of them walking into the deserted town.  The music choice was perfect and made the scene.  Second choice would have been Curious because I loved ghost Meg - "Stop ... Saying ... Your Sorry!"  Kids Are Alright would have been third because of the creepy kid and the disturbing scene of the mother trying to drown her daughter.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ha!  It's better than everyone dying but you keep your fantasy ending and I'll keep mine.  I like the idea of them finally being happy.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I don't want to the ending to be too depressing, but I also don't want them to plop Sam down with a women he knew for about five minutes in season 1, just because they can't think of anything better to do with him.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I picked Two and a Half Men because I think it great! I love Sam and Dean with the baby shifter! My second favorite would be The Kids are Alright because I love Ben and Lisa! And the rest all really good too and have their moments =]

    ReplyDelete
  37. I vote for Are You The God? It's Me, Dean Winchester.
I really like Wendingo and The Kids Are Alright too. I miss the early first seasons episodes, they were more horror-like.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Strangely enough, I thought that they were all pretty bad episodes. I liked the whole killing clown, but the episode lacked some substance. The Kids Are Alright was okay, but not my favorite. AYTG?IMDW wasn't one of my favorites, but the huge reveal at the end about the 66 Seals was one of the greatest turns any show has done to the mythology. Good God, Y'all introduced the character of War, but failed to re-capture the greatness that was Ellen and Jo. Two and a Half Men, IMO, was much better than all of them. It brought many changes in Sam to light, while keeping up the suspense that was started in the pilot. The reveal about the Alphas was so epic that it made Season Six for me. It was the best second episode by far.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I finally chose one!
The Kids Are Alright. Mainly because of Ben. Nicholas Elia captured Dean's mannerisms and character perfectly - pretty good going for a kid. I also admit I have a very soft spot for Ben - especially after his awesome conversation with Dean in M3TR
    Ben:
    You're a liar, Dean.
    Dean: Excuse me?
Ben: You say family's so important, but what do you call people who care for you? Who love you even when you're a dick? You know you're walking out on your family, right?

    Loved that.

    ReplyDelete
  40. yeah, that "walking out on your family" line got me too and Ben was probably what saved the episode from being a total disaster. But The Kids Are Alright will always be my favourite episode of Ben, mostly because later he wasn't so much of a mini Dean anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I voted for Are You There, God? because I like it when Sam, Dean and Bobby all team up together. Truly one of my favorites! I know this week Two and a Half Men is airing. I liked it OK, but the beginning of season 6 was so unsettling that I could have taken it or left it. Loved the season, though, and cannot wait for season 7 to get here!

    ReplyDelete
  42. The second episode has never been a favorite of mine, but two and a half men definitely grabbed my attention :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Crap. This is a really difficult decision...

Wendigo: I LOVED the Wendigo--the buildup mostly...How it mimicked a human voice, and that chilling story about it opening the door...great stuff...but outside of that, it was just a decent-to-good episode.

Everybody Loves A Clown: Creepy, but forgettable. I never did like this episode very much.

The Kids Are Alright: Awesome intro for Ben and Lisa. The kids were REALLY creepy too. :)

Are You There God, It's Me Dean Winchester: AWFUL TITLE. HELL OF AN EPISODE. Every time I see the real Meg take her frustration out...it gives me chills...Adding the others into the mix is just icing on the cake. I'm a sucker for those episodes that sink into your head with all that depressing stuff -- sans the crying. This was one of those for me.

Good God, Y'all: Another one of my favorites. Great twist with War making people think others were demons... And to have the Harvelles back was great.

Two & a Half Men: I like this one more than Everybody Loves a Clown. I enjoyed the old lady/shifter thing, and I enjoyed when the baby shifted, and then I enjoyed the Alpha shifter doing some cool Sam Vs Sam and Dean Vs Dean action. that was pretty cool.

    Which episode wins?
    4x02...
I refuse to type that all out but I loved this episode...it's one of the better ones and help set up the amazing season 4.
