I'm not necessarily bored with the Daleks but I don't have an overriding desire to see them included all the time either. If someone comes up with a good Dalek story, that's fine. I don't think the show should be obligated to try and fit them in just because they're popular.
It's not only about not being scary, they're extremely annoying. The break will be good. I know they're an iconic character and most of the fans love them, but I don't really enjoy the episodes with them.
Agreed on the break but let's all be honest about the real reason - Moffatt knows he totally screwed them up by making them the candy-colored iDaleks and he wants us to forget it ever happened!!
People make way too big a fuss about the colors. The Daleks have always been ridiculous to begin with. You can't really screw something up when it's already rolling around with a plunger sticking out from it.
I've just started Doctor Who recently(on S2) and am already bored of the Daleks. They're extremely annoying and are portrayed as being way too weak. Then there's how goofy they look and I'm not even at the point where they change colors.
My issue with the daleks isn't so much their overuse. Like Bruce said, if a good story pops up, awesome. My main problem is the constant "WE'VE DEFEATED ALL TRACES OF THE DALEKS FROM THE ENTIRE SPACE TIME CONTIUUM FOREVERMORE!!! Oh.... No.... Wait a moment. Nvm. My bad." Stop killing them all forever only to resurrect them and just have them crop up occasionally in decent stories and they'll work themselves out just fine.
I've watched nearly every episode of Doctor Who from 1963 to now. Yeah, the Daleks have always been pretty unbelievable as the terror of the universe. Just the same, I mostly like them. For me, 1 Dalek story/year is about right. They were in several episodes last year, so I have no problem with them skipping a year (or 2).
I love the Daleks, but they have been over used a bit lately. I think it will be good to have a break so that we can have them back with a bang and maybe they can be legitimately dangerous again.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Never liked the Daleks to begin with. Who can be afraid of an overturned garbage can with a plunger and a whisk sticking out the sides? Seriously.

ReplyDeleteI love the Daleks! But it's okay if they want to give them a break since there's the Cybermen to tide me over! :)

ReplyDeleteI don't mind them, but I'm in no hurry to see more of the Mighty Morhin' Power Daleks either.

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say bored. I just don't like them.
ReplyDeleteive always preferred the Cybermen, but having said that. I prefer the original universe Cybermen... not the Cybus Alternate ones.
ReplyDeleteI have no clue what you're talking about. Lol Cybermen are robots right?
ReplyDeleteI'm happier that it appears he's using the original cybermen, rather then the alternative world ones
ReplyDeleteI agree entirely! The original ones are more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThere are two "types" now. The ones first seen in the original series, and then the ones introduced a few years ago, in an alternative universe.
