  1. Seriously? That's one hell of a hiatus. The last episode was in December.

Is it just me, or are most science fiction genre shows actually taking 2-3 times as long to start a new season these days? It just seems like the standard is about 9 months now.

  2. they should definately have longer seasons! but this is earlier than the rumored September 11 date at least

  3. Isn't it normal though? The first season was also in the Fall, so it makes sense that the second season also is.

  5. Normally yes, that would make sense. But they're doing half seasons here. Usually a full season is around 21-24 episodes, so it kind of evens things out a bit. But since so many countries only produce maybe half that, it takes them twice as long to release a season that's twice as short.

I know it's just merely a way of doing things differently, but it makes the wait for a new season extremely long and the season itself extremely short.

For example, Bones had a 23 episode season and ended on the 19th. It will likely be back in September. That's only four months, and we'll likely get a similar number of episodes for the next season as well. Lost Girl ended in December with 13 episodes and takes almost twice that amount of time to release the next season.

Syfy also does this with many of their shows as well. It's really annoying.

  6. It's nice to have a premiere date, especially one that's a bit earlier than expected.  I only wish Showcase had the budget to allow for 16 episode seasons like USA does with its more successful original programs.  That way, the network could schedule split seasons and we'd never have these horrendously long hiatuses.

  7. I guess I don't mind as much because I'm used to British shows or the ones on cable networks who usually have these shortened seasons. The only shows with full seasons I still follow are Chuck, Fringe, Leverage, Nikita, and TVD while my list with shows with shortened seasons is way higher (15+).

  8. Standard  first seasons are 13 episodes, unless the network pays extra to pick up additional episodes per season. They are however ordering more than the standard, reaching more of a network season of approximately 22 episodes.

  9. The first season was shorter because it was a trial to see if people liked it they renewed for a second season full time so they will bring season 2 back when all the other fall regular series start this season has 22 episodes where as season one only had 13 episodes so when season 2 ends and season 3 starts it won't be as long of a break ! ! !
